PART ONE:
He melted into the shadows, enjoying the quiet of the falling night.
He wondered if Vegitasei would be anything like this planet, as he had
spent most of his childhood on a ship or on purging missions, never
being able to witness four seasons go by. Vegeta's face tensed as he
assessed and re-assessed his situation. This was all he had now,
Kakkarot, his loud mouth mate, his son, those baka friends of
his...the woman. It had been almost half a year since his escape pod
had crashed onto the Capsule Corp. Grounds. Half a year since he had
first learned to swim in the ocean of her eyes. As if on cue, she
appeared in front of him, a hazy mist of azure blazing in the
darkness.
"Good evening Vegeta." It was moments like this that the Z family
never have the opportunity to witness, as the two never spoke in front
of other people - unless it was for the purpose of public humiliation
or ridiculing, a show, really. But on some rare nights, long after
Yamucha would fall asleep, the air was filled with soft whispers and
halting conversations. Secret friends? He laughed inwardly at that
thought. She would ask about his race, and the conversation became
animated, fueled by his great pride for his planet. Vegeta in turn
would hint at his curiosity about how she came to meet the Z warriors,
especially Kakkarot. Her eyes would become sparkly at the memories,
and her cheeks, stained with embarrassment at how naïve she once was.
He silently drew her in, her presence forever altering his emotional
state.
"Mph. Woman, what is it that you want?"
"Nothing. I'm just... nothing. Well... good night."
He watched her rejected eyes scan the floor as she turned around, her
fragile hips swaying gently at her own beat. Her porcelain skin was
luminous in the moonlight, but it was the exotic waterfall of
shimmering blue hair that took his breath away. It was the same color
as her eyes, those dancing windows to her soul haunting his fleeting
daydreams. But so apparent was the air of sadness and loss about her,
he could not keep away.
"Bulma."
She turned around slowly. Bulma. He called you Bulma. She looked up at
him with renewed hope.
"Hai...my Prince."
He could not help but smirk at the sound of her hushed woman-goddess
voice calling him by the name he had been denied of the day his planet
was destroyed. He was flattered, if not surprised.
"What is wrong? And do not say nothing, for I can see sadness spread
like a disease in your eyes."
She could only nod in agreement before saying, "Hai. It is sadness,
most infinite."
"Nani? Is it that pitiful lover of yours again? Why do you bother
staying with him woman, you know he has not been faithful." Vegeta
almost took that last statement back. No use in rubbing salt in her
wounds, she was already well aware that Yamucha slept around.
"Please. Yamucha and I are over. And I don't need sermonizing or
lectures on my decisions, especially from you! It's bad enough that I
have to pay people to tell me what's wrong with me... you think I
don't hate the fact that something is tugging at me, and because of
this nagging feeling I just can't... handle anything anymore!" She
stopped before she got too far. She was Bulma Briefs, she didn't need
to explain herself to anyone. Telling Vegeta stories about her past
was different from revealing to him her whole present. She never
expected this sudden onslaught of emotion to come pouring out after
such a long period of silence. His face held the slightest expression
of surprise, and a tinge of guilt. She suddenly longed to lunge at
him, hold him, run her small hands through his thick unruly hair. But
instead she chose to run.
Past the many rooms in the main building of Capsule Corp., past his
gravity machine, until she was outside, and her tears flowed freely,
with the stars standing witness. Why did this have to happen to her?
Reality, crashing into her at such an unexpected time. Her father's
corporation's business was booming, she was the daughter of the
richest family in the world, heiress to billions, girlfriend of a
certified heartthrob, best friend to the universe's strongest fighter
- everything was as it should be... or... was there something more?
What, what, WHAT could it be...no...never...
Rain started to fall softly, and she collapsed onto the grass, holding
herself. Pretending her arms were... his.
