The Mysteries of Love:
Saiyan Obligation
Chapter Four
Pretending
VEGETA noticed that she was not impressed or even surprised by his ability to fly! 'Kakarot must be able to do so too.' Vegeta thought with irritation he could not explain. After all, it was not like he wanted to impress her - right? 'Of course not.' Vegeta answered his own musings.
Bulma, as whenever she flew, enjoyed the cool breeze in her face and the sweet scents that tickled her nose. She could not see much of the planet as it was night, but from what she could see, it not only looked a lot like Earth, but it was just as beautiful.
Trees of light grey, much taller than Earths, that looked as if they reached into the skys, large, rocky mountains and wide lakes.
They reached a large building, which Bulma knew must be Prince Vegeta's Castle. She could not help but be impressed. The Castle looked as if it had came straight out of one of her fairytales, with its dominant structure, rusty gold color, surrounded by its own sky length trees and large lakes. All large towers with large square windows, pointy roofs and long balconies. It was truly a sight to behold.
They entered the lavishly decorated building, which Bulma could not examine closely, as Vegeta flew up a stair case that looked as if it would never end if you had decided to walk it. They passed many halls but still he went higher until it seemed he reached the very last hall. A hall on the highest floor.
He stopped in front of a large wooden door. Zoron, who had followed closely behind, opened the door for them.
Using the light from the hall Vegeta deposited Gohan and herself unceremoniously on a large four poster bed. Luckily its soft comfort eased her drop.
She watched as he walked over to a light switch. Instantly the room was filled with light. He then went to shut the door before returning to the light switch. Only this time he played with a little keypad next to the light switch.
"This was installed about twelve years ago for Frieza's new recruits or slaves. It changes the gravity of the room to help you adjust to that of the planets." Vegeta explained.
Bulma placed Gohan onto the bed gently before getting of it herself. She was pleased to find she could walk without falling down.
She looked around at the large room. Apart from the huge four poster bed, there was a dressing table, built in cupboards, a door that she was sure lead to a bathroom and glass doors which she could see opened to a balcony. All set in a spacious way against stone walls. It was very fairytale like, Bulma thought. She was impressed. And for a girl who lived in a small mansion with hundreds of robotic servants, that was saying something!
The man must really be fond of his fellow Saiyans to put us in a room like this, Bulma thought. But then, he thought that Gohan was the last of his kind. She decided to try and learn more about the man. However, she got the feeling that any questions directed at him personally would award her no answers. So she thought of an indirect approach.
"So who was this Frieza characther?" She asked.
Vegeta gave her a brief summary of who Frieza was and what he did. He finally finished with, "I finally managed to defeat him."
"That's awful! But I'm glad to know he got what he deserved."
"He deserved much worse a faith than death." Vegeta said coldly, he was a little annoyed that the woman thought her opinions on the topic mattered, but he was more annoyed that he actually felt a sense of pride at her words. 'Damn Saiyan ego.' He cursed.
"This will be yours and the boys room. I suspect you would want to shower and change." He nodded towards the door she had looked at earlier. "You will find drying cloths and robes in the bathroom. Zoron will bring you some proper garments and supper in an hour from now. If you require anything else, just ask."
Still uncertain about his motives Bulma just listened and then nodded. He looked at her then, for a long while, just looking at her face.
"How old are you?" He surprised her.
"Geez, aren't you even going to ask me our names?" Bulma's tone dripped sarcasm in reminding him of a very important matter, or didn't Saiyans find it important to ask people their names?
After he just remained to stare at her quietly Bulma continued. "I'm Bulma and that's Gohan." She pointed at the still sleeping child. 'I wish I could sleep through all that's happened today.' She thought. "I'm twenty-three and he's five." She inflated her age by three years.
Seeming satisfied with her answers he nodded before he left.
Bulma went to the door and placed her ears against it. After hearing the two sets of departing footsteps and muffled voices, she went over quickly to Gohan.
"Gohan! Kid, wake up." She shook the boy lightly.
"Bulma?" The cute toddler asked as he sat up and rubbed his eyes sleepily. He then looked around the room before turning to look at her. "Where are we?" He asked.
"We are on another planet." She told him honestly.
His bottom lip immediately began to quiver and his large eyes grew misty with tears.
"Now I want you to listen to me. We are both safe for the time being, so you are going to have to be brave for me ok. Just like your daddy. Can you do that?" She asked knowing that the boy idolized his father.
He nodded, immediately blinking back his tears. At the sight of his brave facade Bulma pulled him in her arms and hugged him tightly.
"It's going to be ok! I promise. Hey, you still have me." She held the boy away from her. "And you know I'll always be there for you. It'll be just like our sleep overs." She comforted. He smiled then, a genuine smile. But it shortly disappeared.
"What about daddy and mum and all our friends?" He asked.
"Your dad will come for us." She told Gohan honestly.
"Really?" His eyes widened in hope.
She nodded. If it was one thing she knew, it was that her adopted brother would not rest until he found them and returned them home. Ever since Bulma could remember, Goku had always been there to protect her. Even being as stubborn and independent as she was, Goku was always her rock.
Altough they shared no blood relation, they still shared a very strong bond of love! Five years older than her, but they were still the best of friends! She thanked the Kais everyday for that faithful day when Goku's space ship had landed in the yard of her home. She would only arrive five years later, but from the second she did, Goku had been there for her. So there was not a doubt in her mind that he would not be there for her now! A time when she needed him most. Not to mention his only son. Besides, Chi Chi would murder him if he didn't find Gohan. Bulma laughed at the thought of her overdramatic and bossy but lovable sister in law.
"It's not going to be easy Gohan. I miss them too! But I know your dad will come for us. So until then, all we can do is stay out of trouble, ok?"
"Ok." He nodded sweetly.
"There's just one thing though. We have to pretend like I'm your mother. It's the only way they will allow me to stay and watch over you." Bulma explained.
She was surprised to hear Gohan laugh.
"And what's so funny mister?" She let go of him to put her hands on her hips.
"Bulma, you're way too cool and young to be anyone's mother." The boy said in a biased tone making Bulma laugh too.
"Come here kid." She said as she pulled him into her arms and hugged him tightly. "I love you." She said as she kissed the top of his head.
"Love you too Aunt Bulma." He used the title he knew she hated.
"Why you little devil." She faked her indignation as she began to tickle him.
After what felt like hours of laughing Bulma and Gohan collapsed onto the bed. There smiles reassuring them that they would see their loved ones again!

"What are their names?" Zoron asked Vegeta when they finally entered the recently rebuilt throne room.
Vegeta could not help but smile as he thought how the woman had taken offense to him not asking that very same question.
"Bulma and Gohan." He said as if testing the sound on his lips.
"It is a very honorable act that you are performing." Zoron told him wisely.
"As I said, it is nothing but Saiyan obligation." Vegeta said.
Zoron nodded. "She does look very young though."
"Twenty-three." Vegeta told his advisor.
"She is a feisty one though! Very protective over the boy and judging from our meeting, highly intelligent."
Vegeta nodded. He trusted Zoron's judgment, though he had also come to the same conclusions.
"See to whatever they need." Vegeta ordered.
"How long do you plan on keeping them here?"
"They do not have a chance of survival without my protection." Vegeta assured, though whether he was assuring himself or Zoron, he did not know. "However we will keep an eye on Earth. If the situation of the planet improves, and they still wish to return, they may do so."
Zoron nodded, seemingly approving of Vegeta's ideas he bowed before leaving to tend to Bulma and Gohan.
