The Mysteries of Love:
Saiyan Obligation
Chapter Five
Bulma's Refelction
3 months later ...
BULMA sighed with content as she sat down on a stone bench in the private gardens of the Castle. She and Gohan had been here for three months now and she thanked faith for keeping them so safe and secure.
Planet Vegeta had become a second home to them and they could not, in all honesty, say they wanted for anything. Although they still missed their family and friends dearly.
However she knew their faith could be much worse as she reflected upon the last three months.
After a long week, much struggle and a lot of energy Bulma and Gohan had finally adapted to the gravity of Planet Vegeta. They had then developed a rather comfortable routine here. Bulma had become bored after some time and even with the many books she had interestingly read she still had a lot of time on her hands. She thought back to how she received her first job.
Engrossed in a book about Planet Vegeta's history she had been walking through this very garden, something she did almost every night when Gohan slept, when she had walked straight into a wall. Or so she had thought. But walls did not have hands that held you from falling.
"Not watching where you are going is a dangerous act, not to mention very foolish." She did not have to look up to identify the owner of the voice. She knew the voice very well and she could smell his musky scent envelop her senses.
"I didn't think anyone would be awake and this is the private garden." She gestured towards the garden that only the balcony steps of hers and Vegeta's rooms lead to.
He ignored her statement and took the book from her hand. He was not the type of guy who asked for anything, he just took. Vegeta was a very 'take charge' kind of person and he never bothered about others opinions.
He raised an eyebrow. "You find our history and culture interesting?" He asked.
She nodded before taking the book back from him. "It's not like I have anything else to do." She muttered.
"What do you wish to do?" He asked her softly.
She did not know why when he lowered his voice she felt a shudder run through her, or when he was close to her she felt the need to inhale his scent or she could never look away from those piercing black eyes. It was strange, but in his company she felt oddly comfortable.
She assumed it was because of the Saiyan features. Those black eyes and hair, muscular body and strong aura that reminded her so much of Goku.
She nodded then. "I'm becoming restless doing nothing."
"What did you do on your planet?" The question surprised her, for he never bothered to ask personal questions about anyone, and he must have read the emotion on her face for he smirked. "If you tell me then I may be of some assistance in helping you."
She smiled then. But she did not want to talk about her home for she had been trying to be brave for Gohan by holding her emotions in check. She did not trust herself not to break down now in front of this strong man. Further more she was still not sure she could trust him completely. His nature was disarming but for the sake of Gohan and herself she must be safe rather than sorry.
"I can do anything." She improvised.
He looked at her for so long she thought he may probe her for more details. "Zoron has much work at the moment, you may assist him in whatever he needs." He told her simply.
She smiled and nodded at him then. They stood staring at each other for a long while. Vegeta took a step towards her and she stood still, gazing into those ebony depths that were his eyes.
Bulma felt herself unable to move or look away, it was as if she were held still by his gaze. And then he abruptly turned away from her. She let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. She watched his graceful movements until she called out to him.
"Vegeta." Her voice was soft, her tone uneven. He stopped then, but he did not turn around to look at her. "Thank you." she said before he walked away.
Zoron was a lovely man to know. He was kind and tolerable but he was also intelligent and observant. And at times she thought he could see right through her!
Bulma enjoyed working for him though! She would normally just follow him around, making notes or advising him from notes she studied. She also accompanied him on his visits to Vegeta's throne room were she would assist Zoron with the meetings. She felt honored knowing that both men trusted her enough to allow her to witness meetings of such importance and this also made her feel guilty.
Bulma sighed again. She was leading a very comfortable exsistance but she could just not find it in herself to confide in Zoron or Vegeta who she truly was. She could only guess that it was because of self preservation.
She had gotten too far in the lie to be confident that Vegeta would not be furious with her if he found out the truth!
Although she had heard impressive stories about how Planet Vegeta was ruled in a much more 'livable' way now she also heard about Vegeta's legendary temper.
She knew that instead of purging planets for their own use they now offered their powerful army to battle wars, restore planets or defend planets from attacks in exchange for payment or useful resources and equipment. What had also surprised her was his hatred for sex slaves. He had apparently set all slaves free and even gone so far as to offer the women who had no place to go to perform less degrading jobs.
But his reputation precedes him. She had also, unfortunately, witnessed his anger and coldness for those he felt unworthy of living. It was not something she could condone, taking the lives of others, just because you were strong enough to do it. It still didn't give you the right to do it.
She remembered how he had ignored her when she had told him so after watching him kill three Imeccans for selling a house maid they had kidnapped. She agreed they deserved a merciless punishment but she still could not come to terms with how he could kill so easily. "Did you have to kill them?" She had been on her way to meet Gohan and Zoron for lunch when she had seen the scene unfold.
"This is none of your concern and you should not be spying on me anyway." He said in his haughty manner.
"The door was open." she defended.
"Well then, you should exercise restraint." He shot back in that raspy yet very sexy voice of his.
"You should exercise restrain and more control."
"I do not care what you think." He told her indifferently before walking past her to leave. She had not moved from the doorway and his arms had brushed against her breasts, making her breath catch. She was just grateful he hadn't noticed.
After that she had bit her tongue whenever she felt the need to insult his behavior. Not that she had much time to do so now.
After a month of assisting Zoron, Bulma had found her true passion. She and Zoron had gone down to the Lab one day when Vegeta had ordered they watch the 'idiots' for there was a delay in finishing modifications to their shields.
After listening to and viewing the programme for the modifications Bulma had been able to successfully modify the planets shields. Much to the surprise of Zoron and the other scientists. She had just shrugged off the effort for she knew it was in her genes to be so good at technology, considering her father was a brilliant scientist and inventor on Earth. But Zoron had not been so casual about her accomplishment.
That was how she began working at the Lab. She was not bored anymore for her days were filled to the brink.
She worked in the Lab everyday, with Gohan playing happily beside her with toys she had invented for him. They would normally have lunch outside for the days on Planet Vegeta were too beautiful to stay cooped up inside all the time. She would then spend her afternoons training Gohan near a lake in the Castle's forest. She had felt she needed to do so not only for Gohan's sake but for Goku's too. She knew Goku would do the same. So she had began to teach Gohan all the basics that Goku had thought her.
Although Gohan became much better than she was, considering his Saiyan strength, and now she had a difficult time keeping up with him.
But she would still wear Gohan out and then carry him in her arms for a bath and a hearty supper before he fell of to sleep. However, it also wore Bulma out too, a fact that Vegeta noticed. He had come to the lake one evening and told her he would be training the boy in future.
Bulma had argued of course, not that Vegeta would listen and so he had taken on the role with ease.
Mostly she would sit against a tree, with her paper work or books, while she kept an eye on them or sometimes she would even team up with Gohan to fight Vegeta.
The man was competitive and very determined! It was always about reaching a higher power level. Although, she had to admit, it was an endearing quality.
Bulma was glad that she and Gohan could teach him something too! The controlling of your energy level and how to sense others energies. He was really surprised that “mere Earthling”' could know such a thing, but he had enjoyed learning a new trick.
Not as much as Bulma and Gohan enjoyed teaching him though! The two tried hard not to laugh at Vegeta. He was just so determined and impatient that he would become easily frustrated. It was actually quite cute to see such a powerful man blush! But that were her evenings.
After that, Bulma would then complete stacks of paper work for Zoron, since she still enjoyed the work and did not want to leave the man in the lurch. Before bed she would normally come out for a walk in the gardens just to relax her body and mind so she could find sleep, just as she was doing now.
She stared up at the pitch black star less sky. The sight reminding her of a certain Saiyans intense gaze.
"Vegeta." She whispered his name. She could not explain why the man aroused such emotional reactions from her but she had a deep feeling that he was the only man who could. She always felt her stomach drop whenever she saw him or her breath catch when ever he was close to her or ... 'What am I doing?' I should not be feeling this way! But why shouldn't I? Because he thinks you're married and a mother.
Yes, the one and biggest downside of her lie. She knew enough about Saiyan culture to know that Saiyan men respected other men's woman with ferocity that out shone Earth's. It was amazing to learn about the power of bonding.
Bonding was truly more significant than marriage. Once a couple bonded, they were, as the term states, bound to one another in this dimension and the next. There was no divorce, no escape!
It was a scary thought but also one that sent chills of excitement through Bulma. She could not imagine how it would feel to know a man loved you so much that he would willingly bound himself to you, damning all consequences like being unable to live without you! It was also a contradicting concept for the Saiyan's from what she heard, viewed such degree of emotions as a weakness!
"Amazing."
"What is?" A voice she knew all too well asked.
