Chapter Nine
Gohan's Blessings
VEGETA let go of Bulma and stepped away from her.
"Gohan." Bulma gulped. "Well you enjoy your training, I'll see you for supper.” She said hastily, her cheeks a deep red. Bulma walked away with out turning to look at Vegeta. How could she?
"Err, Bulma, aren't you coming to watch us train?" Gohan asked mischievously.
Bulma turned around but looked at Vegeta only he wasn't standing where he had before, he was already walking over to the forest.
"No. Not today Gohan. I have a lot of paper work." She lied as she went up to the Castle.
"Are you coming kid, I do not have whole day." Vegeta called to Gohan grumpily! That kid had great timing. What was he thinking kissing the woman like that? She was bad news! He could not even think straight when he was around her!
"Yeah, I'm right behind you." Gohan said.
After hours of sparing Vegeta and Gohan stood with their hands on their knees both gasping for breath from the exhaustion of their fight.
"Not bad kid." Vegeta said as he wiped some sweat of his brow.
"Yeah." Gohan laughed as they both plopped themselves down onto the ground. "I don't mind you know."
"Don't mind what?" Vegeta asked the boy in confusion.
"You and my Bulma." Gohan said slyly.
Great, Vegeta thought. After hours of battling and the kid brings up the topic now. He may not call her mother but the love he had for her was clear. 'My Bulma.' Why did the sound of those two words echoed through Vegeta's entire being.
"What do you mean you don't mind?" Vegeta asked.
"You know, if you two got together."
The statement shocked Vegeta though he masked the emotion. Turning an impassive face towards the boy he asked, "And what about your father?"
Gohan thought for a minute how best to answer this question. Vegeta didn't know that Bulma was not married to his father and it was obvious that that was the reason Vegeta and Bulma have been holding back. "Well I know Bulma will never love anyone the way she does my dad." Gohan said, knowing nothing to be truer for the bond they shared was something beyond special, but it was a bond between best friends and siblings! "But if its one thing I know for sure, it's that my dad would want Bulma to be happy." Gohan said thoughtfully.
Vegeta let Gohan's words play in his mind. Over and over again! She was not bonded to the man and he was dead, but there was no doubt as to how much she loved him. Is that what he wanted from Bulma, love? Preposterous! He didn't even know what love was!
But could he compete with a dead man? Did he even want to compete with anyone? Dead or alive! Vegeta was still too selfish a man to share anything, let alone his woman's feelings. 'His woman?' Great Kai, where did that come from.
“And what about her friend Max? The one she likes?” Vegeta wanted information on their relationship so he tried to keep the bitterness from his voice.
He didn't fool Gohan though. “Oh Bulma's always had a thing for what she calls “good looking” guys. It's her weakness.” Gohan laughed. “But she's definitely not into Max.” Seeing the immense rlief on Vegetas face Gohan decided to add, “But I'm sure Max is crazy about her.” The boy didn't feel bad for saying it because it was the truth!
"Well what makes you think I like your mother? Besides I doubt I could make her 'happy'. Vegeta told Gohan bluntly.
Gohan rolled his eyes. "Hey, I'm just a kid, what do I know. All I know is that if two people are happier together than they are apart, then ..." Gohan let his silence fill in the blanks as he watched Vegeta frown. I'm good! Gohan thought. Well, he's going to do some serious thinking now.
"I'm starving and Bulma's probably waiting for me. See you later." Gohan said as he flew off knowing that Vegeta was too busy thinking to notice him anyway.
Vegeta sat staring at the darkening sky. The kid didn't seem upset at all that his mother could possibly be attracted to someone else. Well, not possibly, Vegeta smirked. That kiss told him all he needed to know! The woman was as much attracted to him as he was to her.
But should he do it? Should he claim her. She was an Earhtling, she had desires for emotion and affection and he was just not capable of that! He could give her sexual satisfaction, materialistic possessions and his protection but that was it!
He did not do all those silly things humans did. What was it, dating and romance. Stuff he had read about while researching the planet Earth and its people.
He was a warrior, a warrior whose ability to feel was long destroyed at the hands of Frieza. Who am I kidding, the woman would never settle for anything! She was an all or nothing girl. He saw it in her, she craved emotions, something he could not give her.
Vegeta flew back to the Castle trying to erase the images of Bulma from his mind. After a long hot shower he sat in his throne room, Bulma still on his mind.
"Anything I can help you would Sire?" He looked up to see Zoron entering the room.
"I have no idea what you are talking about Zoron." Vegeta lied.
"If I may say so Prince Vegeta, you only developed that far away look since Miss Bulma and Master Gohan arrived." Zoron said shrewdly.
"Miss Bulma, Master Gohan!" Vegeta mocked. "Seems like you have grown very fond of our two guests Zoron, do you think it wise? Especially since we know they will be leaving soon."
"It is difficult not to take to such innocent beings. It is a change, they have not been scared by Frieza so they are different from every one else here." Zoron said wisely.
He would not know how his words had impacted Vegeta. Yes, they were innocent, their souls untouched by evil! If Vegeta were to be selfish and take what he wanted he would only end up breaking the woman! Besides, a man so scarred did not deserve such goodness from another.
"Yes, they make a refreshing change. Just do not get too attached Zoron." Vegeta warned.
"Why do you not ask them to stay Sire. It is not like they have much to return too. We are not sure if their friends and family have survived. They do enjoy it here and they can start a new life."
"No!" The denial did sound harsh, even to his ears, but Vegeta knew that his self control was waning, and fast. The sooner he let go of Bulma, the better. "They may be content here Zoron, but they still miss their home."
"Of course Sire."
"But there is something I would like you to do for me Zoron." Vegeta said slyly. "Tell me when Commander Maxum is due to leave Planet Vegeta.?"
"A week from tomorrow Sire."
"I want him to gather his team and leave tonight. He can offer his assistance on planet Yardrack. Is that clear Zoron, he should leave tonight." Vegeta ordered.
"Yes, very clear." Zoron bowed as he left the room. He smiled to himself. Obviously Vegeta was feeling a little insecure of the friendship between Bulma and the Commander. Not to mention a little more jealous.
But maybe it was just the push the young Prince needed to stop being afraid of what he truly desired, Zoron thought.
