Warriors Don't Fall in Love
AS Vegeta lay in Bulma's arms, both still trying to catch their breath after their passionate love making, Bulma held onto him more closely. His head still buried in her neck.
Bulma knew that she was in love with him. Deeply in love with him. Yes, at times he could be an arrogant, unfeeling jerk but he could also be a protective, honorable and passionate man.
Vegeta had been that man for the one year that Bulma and Gohan knew him. And although she knew she loved him unconditionally it was that caring side of him, that she doubted anyone had seen before her, that held her heart captive. And it was impossible that it would ever be released!
Vegeta removed Bulma's arms from around him and placed it on the bed at her sides. He then got up and started pacing agitatedly.
'What was wrong with him?' She asked herself. So he had been surprised that she was a virgin, he should feel pleased that he was her first, especially considering how arrogant and proud he was!
"How old are you?" Vegeta asked without stopping to look at her.
"What?" Bulma asked in surprise.
"How old are you?" He repeated the question as if she had not heard him. Although his voice was calm, it was the deadly calm, she knew, that came before the raging storm.
"Twenty-one." She answered in the hopes of trying to figure out where he was going with the question.
"And I take it that that is how old you have turned today." He stopped to look at her, his eyes narrowed as if daring her to say otherwise.
Bulma sat up nervously and pulled the sheet from the bed to cover herself. He may not feel any modesty in walking around stark naked, but she did. "Yes." She nodded.
He stared at her then. "Another lie. How many does that make now, three, four? Oh and let's not forget about your virginity."
"I never lied about that." Bulma defended.
"Oh so you didn't think I needed to know?"
"I didn't think it would matter." She said honestly. "But obviously it does."
"Yes it matters! What did you think, that I would be so honored to be your first that I would ask you to stay, that I would profess my undying love for you?" He asked coldly.
Bulma could not help but blush as thoughts of those very similar nature did cross her mind.
"Oh you did, didn't you!" He said as he noticed her blush, not missing a thing. "Well you can just wipe those silly fantasies from your mind. You mean absolutely nothing to me! Do you understand, nothing. You're just a foolish little girl with her Earthling dreams of love and romance. Pathetic! I am the Prince of all Saiyans, I am a warrior, not an idealistic boy you can weave your charm around."
Bulma sat paralyzed as his words penetrated her heart. She had never thought it was possible to feel such emotional pain that your entire body felt numb! She wanted to take a dagger and pierce her soft flesh just to see if she would feel pain, just to see if she would bleed.
She looked directly at him then, blue eyes clashing with black, as she silently pleaded for him to take back his words! But at the icy coldness that stared back at her she knew it was only a fantasy.
Yes, what had he said? Silly fantasies. She had been fooling herself all along! In her mind she had conjured him up to be something he was not! She had not fallen in love with him, but with what she had wanted him to be. Bulma excused her feelings to save her pride to deny her hearts aching pain.
Well he may have broken her virginity and spirit today, but there was one thing she had left that she would not let him even touch. Her pride!
She removed the sheet from her body and moved of the bed. She did not look at him. She would not let him see how much he had hurt her! Her throat burned from suppressing her tears but whole hell would freeze over before she allowed him to see her tears again.
It took all of Vegeta's will power to stop himself from taking her in his arms and dragging her back to bed, insisting that she could never leave his side. But he had to do it!
When he had laid in her arms in the aftermath of their passion he had felt an emotion he had never even believe existed! Love. He had felt it radiate from her.
But what was scarier than that was how easily he had felt her emotions. And although he had been able to feel her exact emotions for quite some time now, when her guard was down, nothing had ever made him feel more scared in his life.
They had been creating a bond, unknowing and unintentionally, between one another. He could not let it happen! She would become his weakness and he would only destroy her! He was not capable of giving her what she wanted and in time that would eat at her existance. It would create fear and insecurites that would feed her self destruction and should that happen, he would wither away from their broken bond.
No, he was doing the right thing! For both their sakes. It was not worth it.
Bulma watched from the corner of her eye as he redressed into the clothes she had taken from his body a few hours ago. 'No! I must not think that way.' She told herself sternly. It was over.
Bulma, now fully dressed, walked over to the closed door. She opened it slightly and held onto it before turning her head to look at Vegeta. He had his back to her but she knew he would listen to her.
"Thank you for everything you have done for Gohan and I. We will forever be indebted to you, don't doubt that. But I must say, your ego is much bigger than I imagined. I thought that we shared a mutual desire and although I may have been inexperienced I am not naïve. This may never have occurred to you, but I have never felt the need to have sex with anyone before. But that's all it was Vegeta, sex! Mutual, consentual, adult sex. I never once said I wanted to stay. But then I guess your ego is even bigger than your brain ... And possibly other parts of you anatomy too." Bulma finished wickedly, hoping that she could hurt the one thing she knew could be hurt. His ego!
He turned around to look at her in shock. She gave a suggestive look at his lower body, emphasizing the comment she had made about his anatomy. "Its been fun really. But I have a home and a life to get back to." She winked at his bewildered expression before giving him a smirk and walked out of his room and life.
"Hey, you all set." Goku asked as she reached the arrival station.
Bulma felt her composure strengthen as she looked at Goku. If all else fails. She always had Goku. "Yes. Take me home." She gave him a bright smile.
"Aren't you packing anything?" Goku asked.
"No. I came with nothing but the clothes on my back and will leave the same way." She told her brother knowing that she did not want anything that would remind her of Planet Vegeta or its Prince.
"Same old Bulma." Goku laughed.
"Hey, where's Gohan?" Bulma asked.
"Oh he said something about saying bye to Zoron and Vegeta."
Mmm, I must have missed him Bulma thought. "Hey Goku, how is it that you can walk normally here?"
"Why?" Goku asked in confusion.
Bulma rolled her eyes. "Because you big goof, the gravity here is ten times stronger than that of Earth's."
"Really. Well dad actually built me this Gravity Chamber where I can increase the gravity for training, so I guess that's why I didn't feel it." Goku's explained.
"Only dad would do something like that and only you would actually use it." Bulma said as she and Goku laughed.
Everything would be fine, she told herself. Time heals all wounds. I can do this.
"Hey guys, I'm ready." Gohan shouted as he flew towards them. The three gave Planet Vegeta one last look before boarding their ship.
Vegeta watched as Bulma turned to look at the Planet. From his balcony he had felt as if she had spared him one last look. One look that he could carry with him for eternity, but after her words he knew he was the one with the fantasies. The hurt and pain he had felt while he had said those horrible things to her had been replaced with anger and pride. Two emotions he knew so well. He smirked, whatever she had felt for him before was only turned into hate for him now.
"Vegeta." Zoron barged into the room and out onto the balcony, all formality forgotten.
"What is it Zoron." Vegeta asked, without turning to look at the man.
"Aren't you going to stop her Sire. I'm sure if you told her you loved her she would stay." Zoron tried to help the young man before he foolishly let go of the only good thing that he had.
But the Prince did not move as he watched the ship blast of into space. Zoron knew that Vegeta was too blinded by his past and his pride to admit to such feelings. He had hoped that if he had said the words out aloud, Vegeta would have realized them to be true or Vegeta would have blasted him into the next dimension, the man thought distractedly. But it seems the Prince was determined to prove he was the strongest in the universe. For feelings were a weakness! Especially love.
Vegeta turned around to smirk at his advisor. An empty look in his black eyes. He walked pass the man before standing still for a moment as he turned his head to look at Zoron, the wind lightly moving the hair from his forehead, he said, "Don't be ridiculous Zoron. Warriors don't fall in love!"
