Saiyans Return
Chapter 2
Bulma rolled over and moaned softly, as the warm body next to her stirred, she shivered on the cold floor, and she murmured softly as she felt him pick her up. " I love you, Vegeta. "
" I know. "
" Don't go. Please don't leave. " He drew her closer and the whispered pleas quieted, but he still felt her fear, knowing what had caused it, he could only sigh. He had left her once before. Before Trunks had been born, he had gone back to space to train, he had been gone for almost a year, and she had had to get through her pregnancy on her own. But this was different, he wasn't going to leave her ever again, and he often wondered why he couldn't bring himself to tell her that.
Vegeta growled quietly, looking at the beautiful creature he had taken as his mate almost 30 years earlier. After all this time, he still hadn't managed to separate himself from her. He had given her his heart and his soul, and he would never tire of her, arguing with her, looking at her, touching her… He smirked, their joinings were still incredibly intense, her climax only turning him on even more, thank Kami the minx was capable of multiple orgasms or surely he would've gone crazy by now, torn between trying not to hurt her and desiring her the way he did. Even then she could not match his stamina, as was the case tonight, she had passed out and he still wanted her, but at least the little weakling tried, and there was always later.
Laying her body in their bed, he smoothed a lock of hair from her face and purred as she sighed softly, arching into his touch. She was still asleep, but the attraction forged by their bond was as undeniable now, as it was all those years ago. He started to withdraw his hand and her brow creased with a frown, she whimpered quietly as she grabbed the covers and squeezed them hoping she'd find him there.
For a moment, Vegeta didn't want to leave, but he hadn't checked to make sure the house and his little princess were safe for the night yet. He didn't want Bulma to wake up and come looking for him either. The stubborn minx would be full of questions he didn't want to answer yet. Still, he had worn her out quite well, and he already knew he would take his family with him. She wasn't a Saiyan, but she was his bonded mate and no he had no regrets about claiming her. She had accepted him when no one else would have, and he knew he would have to stand by her now. Finally he tugged a pair of his tight spandex pants on and prowled from the room in silence. His tail flickered uneasily through the shadows as he walked through the dark halls.
He was a prince, and if Planet Vegeta still existed, he would loose everything by keeping her, his title and his honor. By formal challenge, he could even be killed for this, claiming an alien, and worse, a weakling of a human for a bond mate. He could've kept her as a slave, or even a mistress but he knew she was more to him than that. But none of that bothered him. No, it was the knowledge that if a female of equal or greater standing wanted to, she could challenge Bulma, and he could not interfere to protect her. Weakling or not, without honor, she was already as good as dead among his race. Still, he doubted the girl Lima was that honored or powerful, but Vegeta had seen by the girl's expression that she didn't like the idea that Bulma was his mate. Still, Lima was too young for him anyway and if it came down to it, Vegeta wouldn't hesitate to tell her that. He could only hope that perhaps these Saiyans didn't have the laws of formal challenge.
Since he was already bonded, if he were to be formally challenged it would not really be for mating rights, it would be for honor and the purity of their race. During the reigns of past kings, Vegeta knew of very few formal challenges, but those he had heard of were given because an elite or a noble had taken mate of lesser social standing. His own father was guilty of that one, Vegeta smiled bitterly at the memory, ten years old and he had found out from Dodoria. When he demanded Napa tell him the truth, he had found it more shocking than Dodoria's version… but he was not his father and there was no way he'd allow himself to be forced into becoming a puppet on his own throne, nor would he ever place Bulma where she might endanger herself. She was too valuable and too vulnerable to leave alone, on earth, besides, he had no idea how long it would take to find out where these creatures who claimed to be Saiyans had come from, but he wasn't going to rest until he found them.
If they were Saiyan, he would free them from this gladiatorial fighting business and punish whoever had sold them into slavery. If they were not Saiyans or in danger, Kami have mercy on their souls, for Vegeta would not. But that still made him wonder, where had these Saiyans come from? The Imperial City of Kale?? Where in the hell was that? Vegeta wondered… Kale was that bitter green lettuce stuff that gets put on the edges of salad bars, here on earth. Did that mean it was a Saiyan city? But then how would that girl not have known that he was the Saiyan prince and why was she a slave if it was her city?? He had half a mind to go talk to Max again, but he didn't. He needed to think, and he needed to plan, but most of all, he needed to call a meeting with the earth's other fighters. The last thing he wanted was for Max to land and have the earth's Special Forces attack him.
Max was a capable fighter, but he was only a Barovian. By nature, Barovians were peaceful, honorable, trustworthy and noble beings that Frieza and his father had betrayed and wiped out in a vicious campaign that had ended with only one survivor in the entire race. Maxwell. That wasn't actually his name, but it was the name he had taken when he had broken away from Frieza, and came into possession of the Atlantis. His race was closely related to Saurians, for years, he had been a good friend of their current Emperor, Kazar, but Max and Zarbon had never gotten along, because Zarbon had refused to lead his people and try to fight Frieza for their independence, and he had died as Frieza's most loyal henchman. Barovians even looked a lot like Saurians, they were handsome, almost devastatingly beautiful, but Saurians were rarely as honorable and noble as they acted, and Barovians didn't have the ability to transform into a stronger form. The Barovian Prince was welcomed and openly supported by the Saurians, but Maxwell was more comfortable in space than tied to a single planet that was not his own.
Vegeta understood the pirate's restlessness better than he could ever admit, even to himself. In spite of his intense bond with Bulma, he would never see her planet as home. It was beautiful here, in a lush, verdant green way, but the intense colors of the sunrise and sunset made him think of home, and how it had been taken from him when he was a boy… Earth was peaceful compared to the vast majority of space, and while Frieza and his family were gone, there were still Ice-jin left, but luckily they were fighting a bloody civil war and it was no where near over. The majority of the space pirates, warlords and slave traders had gone into small business on a more local scale, and Vegeta had personally destroyed Frieza's most powerful military installations and their commanders while he had been looking for Goku, and he still had Max to keep an ear out for trouble.
Thinking again of the pirate captain, Vegeta smirked. A common sense of adventure and a similar hatred of Frieza's tyranny was what had gotten the two of them together as allies. Duty and a deep sense of honor was the reason they had not quickly settled their debts and forgotten or killed each other. He would help Max get his mate and his crew back, but Vegeta couldn't help but find it surprising that Max would've fallen for a trap like that in the first place. After all these years, his carelessness said that the systems he'd been in had been too peaceful for too long. Max really should've known better, and yet, the Skulls were an unpredictable enemy because they were so patient; they would lie in wait for decades if they had to. Kiara's capture reminded him that he could not let Bulma out of his sight knowing the Skulls were after him.
The Barovian Prince was a bit of a daredevil, and had liked the challenge of pirating and plotting against Frieza and now the Skulls, and the two had gotten along since the moment they met. Perhaps he wouldn't use the term "friend", but Max was definitely his closest ally. They had not really even talked in almost a year and oddly they still thought alike and understood each other's thoughts and reactions perfectly…
He shrugged, and growled under his breath as he glanced at the phone. He hated doing this, but he already knew he had to warn the others that Max was coming. Vegeta glanced at the clock on the stove across the room and smirked. It was 0300 and the human weaklings would be mad about their wake up call, but he knew whom to call first. He hit the first number on the speed dial and waited, still smirking.
" Moshi, moshi… " He heard a soft voice yawn on the other end of the line.
" I need to speak with Kakarrot, now. "
" Vegeta? " The female voice, seemed a little more awake now, and he heard her shake her head and giggle as he snorted and she set about trying to wake her husband of 20 years. This creature was far more appealing than Kakarrot's first mate had been. " Goku- baby wake up, your prince needs you… "
" Nah, he's Bulma's Jenna, and I don't sense anything… " Goku muttered sleepily, and Jenna squealed as he grabbed her.
Vegeta snorted, and decided to help Jenna get his rival's attention, before the woman got pounced on. " Kakarrot! This is your prince speaking! Answer me right now! "
" Vegeta?? " Goku cried in surprise, and groped around for the phone. " What's wrong with you, it's 3 in the morning. "
" Yes, and something very important has come up. Get to Capsule Corp; bring the earth's other fighters. I'll be tracking down my brats and I'll explain everything when you get here. "
" What's going on, Vegeta this isn't like you. You want me to bring everybody? It's 3 am and this is a school night. "
" I am aware of the time, idiot. Just get them here, and bring your mate too. "
" What? Now I know there's something up with you… "
" I'm only going to explain myself one time tonight, Kakarrot, and that will be after everyone is here. " Vegeta hung up before Goku could protest again, and he gave a smug little snort as he hit the second number on the speed dial.
The apartment that Trunks and Goten shared was a bachelor pad, and he knew he was going to get the machine in the living room, so Vegeta was fully prepared to yell when he heard a sleepy, but very familiar female voice answer the phone on its first ring. " Moshi, moshi… "
" Bra? Why aren't you at home? "
" Daddy? " She yelped.
" Yes, now get your brother, his worthless best friend and your ass in our living room right now. "
" Daddy, what's wrong? I was just… upset when Justin and I broke up, so I didn't come home, but I left a message on the machine and… "
" Princess, you don't need to worry about that, I'm calling a meeting with the earth's Special Forces, and you brats need to be here. "
" But I'm not a fighter. "
" I could've sworn it was you that asked me to train you tonight. " He growled sarcastically. " Right now I've got to get your mother to wake up. "
" You're calling a meeting… with everybody? Daddy, what's going on? "
" I will tell you when you get here. "
" We'll be there, Daddy. " Bra promised, as her father hung up.
Bulma felt her mate nibble on the back of her neck, and moaned softly, cracking one eye to look at the time. Why was she was so tired… " Baby, it's not a full moon tonight can't you let me rest? "
" I'm calling a meeting with the earth's fighters now. I want you there too. " Vegeta growled between kisses. " Besides, Bra stayed over night with our brat and Goten. "
" She what? Why? " Bulma asked trying to squirm around to face him, but he held her still easily, as he teased her with kisses and soft, light touches through the sheets.
" She and her little weakling broke up, and she was too upset to come home. " He nipped her a little harder and then rose to leave, and she sighed watching him go, then she reached for her robe and started to get dressed.
Goku and his mate both sat up worriedly as Vegeta came into the living room. The couple's three kids were also there, and the youngest came over to Vegeta and hugged his leg. " Uncle Veggie! "
" Brat. " The Saiyan Prince growled, picking the boy up by the back collar of his shirt, he smirked and held him up to look at him as if he were trying to figure out what sort of insect he had just discovered. " I thought you were supposed to call me Prince Vegeta. "
The five year old squealed delightedly and nodded eagerly. But before he could answer, Bra and Trunks and Goten came in through the patio door. " Dad, what's this all about? "
" The others aren't coming I take it? What about that granddaughter of yours, Pan? " Vegeta glanced at Goku.
" Oh, yeah, I guess I talked to Gohan… but I didn't try to find Pan myself. I'll be right back. "
Jenna winced and left the room at the mention of Goku's oldest son, who hadn't forgiven her, and probably never would. She tried, but she couldn't stop her tears. In the hall, Jenna felt two warm hands gently on her shoulders and looked into Bulma's bright blue eyes. " I'm glad you're here, Jenna. But, damn I'm tired. I think we better sit down. I think this is going to be a long night. "
" Bulma, tell me what's going on. I never feel like I belong here when Gohan and Yamcha and Chichi won't come because of me. "
" Jenna, it's not just you. Yamcha and I are friends, but he still hates Vegeta. You and Goku were meant for each other, you know that. "
" But it's been so long… "
" I know it's hard, I thought I'd never get used to the way everyone, but especially Yamcha looked at Vegeta and I when we were together… but Yamcha's a good match for Chichi, they've been through a lot of the same things and if they don't want to be here, I guess I don't blame them, but this is too important, Gohan especially should be here… they should all be here, that way they know…"
" Woman! " Vegeta growled, " Come in here, the nose-less one is here, so is the Namek, the mime, the three eyed guy, oh yes, and the old pervert came too. Kakarrot will be back any second as well, so hurry up."
" We're coming, Vegeta, just a minute. " Bulma snapped. " Are you ok, Jen? I guess I really thought Gohan would show up for this but knowing Vegeta he probably didn't tell anyone about the call yet. "
" What call? " Jenna asked curiously, wiping the last of her tears out of her brilliant green eyes.
" Well, Vegeta and I were in the gravity room and the screen flicked itself on and there were a bunch of aliens waiting to talk to Vegeta! "
" WHAT?? "
" Come on, I better let Vegeta tell the rest, I saw the whole thing and I'm still confused. "
Goku appeared as they rounded the corner, holding a thin, very weak looking figure in his arms. " Hey Bulma, can you help me? "
" Oh my holy Kami… is that Pan? "
The girl stirred weakly in her grandfather's arms at the sound of her name, and Bulma rushed over to take a look at her. " Goku, what's wrong with her? "
Bra came over too, and took the girl out of Goku's arms. " Pan! It's getting worse, damn it, why didn't you call me? "
" I'm just tired. " Pan yawned, but Bra and Goku had already seen her tears as she buried her face in her best friend's shoulder. " I just want to be alone. Just leave me alone. "
" Pan… " Bra whispered looking up at her mother with tears in her eyes. " She's gone back to sleep again. "
" She's dying. Where in the hell are her parents? " Vegeta snarled from across the room. " Why didn't they know about this? "
" What's wrong with her, Vegeta? " Goku demanded, but the prince stalked over to the phone and dialed Gohan's number. " Get your mate and get both of your asses to Capsule Corp NOW unless you want me to come and drag you here… Really? Do you want me to tell your daughter that she can keep suffering alone so you can keep playing this stupid game with your father? You have ten minutes." Vegeta growled and hung up.
" Vegeta, answer me. What's wrong with Pan? "
" Let me see her, don't crowd her, she needs to breath. Bra you can hold her, just everyone else let her have a little room. " Vegeta grunted. " Bra, you said something earlier tonight about a dream. What has this dream been about? "
" Her dreams and mine are almost the same a lot… but a week ago, she called me from her host family's house in the middle of the night. She had had the dream again. It's hard to explain, but there's this boy, he's got a tail and the way she describes him says he's got to be a Saiyan. His name is Caulen, and she was all upset, and crying and she said she needed to come home. She said he was hurt and that she was afraid he was going to die… "
" I don't understand. What does a dream have to do with anything? " Goku demanded.
" Shut up and I'll tell you what I can, Kakarrot. " Vegeta growled, turning to face the larger Saiyan. " Saiyans are telepathically and empathically linked to their mates. Pan is bonded, and she needs to find her mate before they both die. "
" How could she be bonded, if she can't find him? " Goku asked, trying not to get angry at Vegeta's confusing answers.
" When I was a boy, one of my trainers told me that Saiyans are reborn after they die, and when a pair of bond mates are reborn in the same lifetime, they will be drawn back together, even sent to different planets far away on purge missions, they will eventually find their way back to each other… or they will die. "
Bulma gasped. " So you think that somewhere in space there's a boy Saiyan that's going through this too? "
Vegeta smirked and nodded. " Exactly. Although since he is the one in danger at the moment, and had to concentrate on whatever he's involved with, he may not be aware of how deeply she is affected yet. She probably doesn't even know she is bonded, all she knows is that she wants to get to him, but since they've only met in dreams, she doesn't know he's real. If she is lucky, her mate is strong and he will keep fighting, because if he dies, she will too. "
" Pan's bonded? But how did we not know it? " Videl whispered, laying her head on the lap of her daughter, as she rushed into the room. Gohan followed sullenly, and glared at Vegeta but refused to look at his father or Jenna.
" I don't really know much about it. All the female Saiyans were dead by the time I was six, so it was never considered a priority to explain it in depth to me since they were all dead anyway. So I don't really know how it works, all I know are the signs, and she is definitely showing them. "
" Well since you know, why don't you tell us what they are? " Gohan snapped.
" Look at her, she's exhausted, reduced to crying herself to sleep and shaking like a leaf whenever Bra lets go of her. Anyone can tell she hasn't been eating, and she's going into heat soon so she'll either get worse or she'll start getting a little stronger. Either way still means trouble she can't be left alone like this, or she may try to hurt herself to get rid of the pain she is in. "
" Pan wouldn't do that, she's too strong." Gohan growled.
" You have never been through bonding withdrawal. You don't know what it's like, or how much it tears you up not to be able to see your mate, and touch her. For your daughter, she doesn't even know if he's real. After a while, you would do anything to ease that pain. I can't imagine dealing with it if you haven't even been able to figure out why you feel it. "
" Daddy. " Pan whispered sitting up. " Don't fight with Vegeta, I'll be ok. I'm just tired. "
" Pan." Vegeta crouched down to look at her. " Tell me who Caulen is. "
Pan's onyx eyes glared at Bra accusingly until Vegeta forced her to look at him. " Pan. She didn't want to say anything, but you need to try to find him with your thoughts and tell us where he is. "
" You'll just say I'm crazy, and I can't! I don't know, it's just a stupid dream and I can't take it any more! I just want it to go away! "
" Pan, what you are feeling and sensing in your dreams is not your imagination, it's your mate. He knows about you too, he will do anything in his power to find you. But right now you need to be strong, because you are going to have to find him and to do that, you'll have to learn to feel him. You were born with a connection to his soul and you can learn use it. He is a gladiator of some sort, isn't he? Use your connection to him to help him keep fighting. "
" I can't Vegeta… it's too hard. " Pan sniffed, but she didn't look quite so dazed as she had earlier.
" But Dad, there aren't any other Saiyans. " Trunks reminded him.
" An old ally of mine thinks he can prove otherwise, and he will be here in about 24 hours. I have seen one of them, a female, by the name of Lima, and Max tells me he has five others on his ship as well. "
