Saiyans Return

Chapter 7

Videl landed in the front yard of the house she had shared with Gohan for 17 years, and stared at it quietly, wondering what to say to him. None of the lights were on, but she could sense him, and knew that his Ki was stationary and emanating from their bedroom, she sighed.

Since she had met her husband there was always something about him that reached out to her, even as it simultaneously seemed to push her away. Even though she loved him with all her heart, there were times when her half Saiyan mate was difficult to understand. But she knew that Gohan still felt as he did twenty years ago. Gohan simply could not bring himself to forgive his father for his betrayal. Even Chichi was over it, but Gohan was not.

Walking inside, she decided the quiet approach might work best. Gohan wasn't flighty, but there was just so much anger, so much pain that still poisoned his heart that she always hated to pressure him too much when it came to his family and in particular his father. But this time, it wasn't about him. This time it was about Pan, and if there was any way to get him to see reason, then she would do it, she didn't care what it took.

Gohan was standing in the hall, as she came up the stairs. "I know what you are going to say, Videl…"

She scowled at him, but didn't say anything.

"I know I was a jerk tonight…"

"That was putting it mildly." Videl snapped, brushing past him, she slipped back into her night gown, keeping her back to him stubbornly.

"I've never been a true Saiyan, Videl. I've never wanted to be. Besides, I've been out there. I wouldn't..."

"Wouldn't what Gohan?" Videl asked, her blue-violet eyes glinting with anger. "You want to say that you wouldn't make a difference anyway? I don't care what you do out there Gohan the point would be to go and support your daughter who needs you. Have you forgotten that without Bulma you guys never would have made it to Namek to fight Frieza? She didn't do any fighting but she was your pilot, and translator and she survived."

"That is also who Bulma is. She has been adventuring all her life and she's good at it."

"I always thought you were mad at your father for deserting you Gohan, so I never thought that you of all people would desert our child!"

"I'm not trying to desert her! But I do know that I'm still not interested in going."

"Fine you can spend the rest of the night on the couch!" Videl snapped, slamming the door in his face. "Without your pillows!!"

"What?" Gohan knew he could easily get the door open, but he didn't try it. His wife was a temperamental little thing and he knew not to push her too far. She was already angry with him for the way he had acted at Capsule Corp, and he had to admit, part of him knew he should call over there and apologize right now, but he decided Bulma might not be ready to hear it yet, because he knew he had hurt Vegeta, and she was the one who would have to deal with him. That was what shamed Gohan the most, but he just couldn't help it. Whenever Goku and Vegeta were together, Gohan always felt outnumbered, and a little bit cornered. His father and Vegeta had gone from being nearly mortal enemies, to friends that were closer than blood in only a few hours, and all because Goku had chosen Jenna over his mom! Well that wasn't how Vegeta saw it, but to Gohan it still seemed that the Saiyan Prince had encouraged his father to do the wrong thing.

Krillin was no longer his dad's best friend; obviously that title had been Vegeta's for a long, long time. Sure they were still close, but years ago, the former monk had confided in Gohan that he hadn't ever been able to look at Goku the same way since he had come to him for advice about Jenna… and then done exactly what Krillin had told him not to. Gohan sighed, sometimes it made him feel better to know that he wasn't the only one that felt as if Goku had betrayed them when he had bonded with Jenna, but that didn't make it any easier to make up his mind about the situation with Pan.

Part of him knew that Videl was right. He knew he should go just because his daughter wanted him there. And yet that would put him closer than he wanted to be to his father and step mother than he was comfortable with for an undetermined amount of time. He already knew that if they needed him, he would come and help, but he honestly didn't think there was a threat out there that could match the power of Vegeta anyway so it just seemed as if it would all be for nothing anyway.

After all the two pure bred Saiyans still sparred together every day, they rarely used their Ki, because it was dangerous to the earth itself since they were so powerful already, and Vegeta also refused to use his third form against his former rival. On the one hand, it was amazing how deeply Vegeta had changed, and yet Gohan knew it was a matter of pride and honor that they still took their training very seriously. The two of them continually exchanged their most powerful techniques and tested new ones. Vegeta had learned instant transmission easily, and he was trying to train Goku to where he could transform into Super Saiyan 3 too, because that was how they had to spar to get to Super Saiyan 4.

To Gohan all that training seemed pointless, honestly nothing had happened since Cell- unless one counted the night where Vegeta had saved his life, but Goku and Vegeta were still tireless in their quest for power… Gohan paused nothing had happened until tonight… when the Prince of all Saiyans had asked his former enemies to help him…

Tired of feeling ashamed of himself, Gohan shut his eyes, lying back on the couch, trying to think about something else, and finally he did get back to sleep, but fleeting images of monsters, the Dragonballs, gladiators and a grizzly frozen wasteland that had once been a terrible battlefield tortured his sleep until he awoke in a cold sweat with the image of a pair of golden eyes looking down at him as he saw Krillin, Piccolo, Tien, Chaotzu and Yamcha trapped within an icy tomb. "You can save them, if you stay." An unfamiliar, distinctly female voice whispered in his mind, even as he growled and turned on the shower, the voice lilted those word over and over until he finally told it to shut up.

"Good morning to you too," Videl snapped back at him, thinking he was talking to her as he emerged from the bathroom with a towel on his head and one around his waist. She watched him walk past her into their bedroom and sighed. "I take it you still intend to stay?"

"I…" He paused and her eyes narrowed, she slapped him, but before she could storm out, Gohan grabbed her arm. "I think someone needs to stay behind."

"Last night Piccolo and Krillin and the others decided they would stay, we all want you to come."

"While I was on the couch I had a weird dream- someone used it to tell me to stay. I think it's got…"

Videl stared at him for a moment, and then tried to slap him again, but he picked her up effortlessly, and put her on their bed. And, he easily kept her there, gently but firmly he put her arms up over her head, but she was so angry she didn't seem to notice anything else as she tried to squirm free. "What?? That is ridiculous!! Damn you, Gohan! I know you can be stubborn when you want to, but that is the last straw! If you want to stay that badly then stay but you don't need to make up something like that!! I can't believe I actually came home to try and talk to you and make sure you were ok, when I should have been with Pan! I don't know even know what to say to you right now! When I get out of this bed you are going to be in very serious trouble with me, Gohan."

He tried not to laugh, which of course, only made her angrier. "Calm down," he told her. "I want to show you this-"

"I want you to get off of me and go to school and do your stupid little teaching thing so you can enjoy being all by yourself around here, you big jerk!" She snapped, but she started to cry even as she said it.

"Videl, I never said I wouldn't miss you." He said softly, beginning to purr as he lightly rubbed noses with her. "Don't you know how much I love you?"

"Damn it Gohan! You stop playing with me this instant! Pan needs you… I need you. Couldn't you see how badly she was hurting last night? How can you say anything could be more important than helping her get better? She is our only child… we can't just stand by and do nothing."

He brushed his lips against hers and smirked as she shivered. Still purring softly, he began to kiss her, trying especially hard to be careful with her. He could feel her body getting warmer beneath him, but he continued to move slowly with her, determined to let her set the pace.

He released her arms slowly, and smirked when she wrapped them around his neck, deepening the kiss. Gohan was still purring softly, knowing the noise was soothing to her. And he felt the wall between their minds that she had created, start to weaken, he knew he could probably push it aside now, but hurting her was the last thing he wanted to do. He didn't care if he missed the whole day of school, he wasn't leaving this bed, until he had shown her that weird dream, and neither was she.

"You're going to… be late." Videl whispered breathlessly as he nuzzled her neck. She arched her back, exposing more of her neck, and moaned as he bit down. She began to writhe beneath him as he sucked on her neck, her long legs parted and wrapped themselves around his lean waist.

"I don't care. I'm busy." He growled, the buttons popped off of her night shirt as he tore it open, exposing her breasts, which he immediately started kissing.

"Gohan, I love you and I know you love me, but I'm mad at you. I want you to stop." Videl growled, smacking him in the head with a pillow harmlessly.

"Your body doesn't seem to agree with you." He purred, lightly nipping at one of her nipples, as one of his hands found the apex of her thighs. He eased his fingers into the moist silk that covered her there and felt her body shudder with pleasure.

"My body….oooh isn't your toy, Gohan." She moaned, barely able to keep her eyes open as he began stroking the delicate bead of her sex, with his thumb and forefinger. "I'm not trying to tell you that I don't like it when you touch me- oh especially like that, but I am mad at you. I don't want you to stay here!"

"Videl, I-" Gohan started to say, without pausing in what he was doing, but she thumped him in the head with the pillow again. He scowled, it didn't hurt but it was getting annoying.

"Please, get off of me." She growled, this time using all of her strength to try and squirm out from under him. "I mean it Gohan! I don't want you to try to distract me like this right now."

"I'm not just trying to shut you up or distract you. If you promise to drop the barrier in your head, I'll let you move."

Videl arched one eyebrow at him questioningly, but slowly the barrier disappeared, and Gohan sat up and closed his eyes. Having a photographic memory was useful for more than just school.

"What are you…" Videl started to ask, but was silenced by Gohan's voice in her mind.

"This is the dream I had last night. The first part doesn't make any sense… but as I was waking up I heard something in my head- I think it was a warning that someone is going to come after the Dragonballs after everyone leaves."

Videl gasped a little, as the terrible scenes from his dream played across her mind, but she stiffened visibly as she saw the bright golden eyes in the sky above what was left of their friends, and the strange voice began its eerie whisper. "Y-you really saw that in your dreams last night?"

"Yes, I did. Weird huh? I admit part of the problem is that I don't want to go anywhere my Dad and Jenna are going , but there was something about that voice, and those eyes… They were so cold and yet the message was… I don't know." Gohan sighed, getting up he started to get dressed. "Maybe it was just a dream…"

Videl sighed, and started to get dressed too. "Gohan I…"

He turned around as she sat back down on their bed as stared at the floor.

"What is it?"

"I didn't have any weird dreams or visions or anything last night- or at least I didn't think I did, because I don't remember them but I think there was anything weird going on here… because I saw those same eyes just before I woke up. And she told me that you should stay too. I don't like it, though Gohan, what if it is a trick! What if we need you and you're here to stop something that isn't going to happen?? Besides, Pan needs-"

"You know I'll only be a video monitor away if you need anything. If you get lonely or whatever... I want to stay and see what happens, if nothing does and you need me, I promise I'll be there! You may not understand this Videl, but I really think it will be better for everyone if I stay, at least until something happens and you guys need me."

"Gohan, I…" She started to say, but he kissed her as he pulled on his jacket, and moved to the bedroom door.

"I love you, Videl, are you going back to Bulma's today?"

"I think so. But I won't apologize to everyone for you." She scowled.

"I wasn't going to ask you to," He grinned, "I was just going to have you give Pan a hug for me."

"Damn it why do you have to be so stubborn? This isn't fair."

"I just want some more time, Videl, I spent the first 17 years of my life racing out to meet every threat we encountered head on and I'm not sure that was always the right way to go about it. I want to sit this one out at least for a little while. Just remember that I love you, and Pan more than anything."

"Then why won't you show me you mean it when you say that?" Videl snapped, going toward the bathroom, but she stayed at the door, glaring at him.

"How many times do I have to tell you that I don't think anything will happen out there that Dad and Vegeta can't handle with just the two of them?? With everyone else it'll be overkill"

"How many times do I have to tell you that the point of being a family is to stick together??"

Finally they both decided they weren't getting anywhere, so, Videl slammed the bathroom door and Gohan slammed the bedroom door and stubbornly went to work as Videl stood under the showerhead and tried not to cry.

**

"Bra, do you know where your father is?" Bulma called from the kitchen as her blue haired daughter walked by. "Kayin sweetie, will you give that to your mom for me? Wait a second honey, not upside- down!"

"He's training in the Gravity room with Goku, Mom." Bra sighed, looking at the big pile of cinnamon sugar on the floor between Kayin's tiny shoes. "Hey buddy, you wouldn't want to come with me and watch some cartoons would you?"

Jenna flashed Bra a grateful smile as Kayin scampered out into the living room. The red head grabbed a dustpan and the broom from the kitchen closet.

"Thanks for helping me with breakfast, feeding a houseful of Saiyans is never easy."

"You're welcome, besides you're doing the bacon and eggs." Jenna grinned, "This is the easy part. Do you want me to make some glaze for the coffeecake since Kayin managed to spill the entire bowl, and that was the last of the cinnamon?"

"Sure that would be great, what do you need for that?"

"Don't worry I'll get the stuff, you keep doing what you're doing. Really it's easy to make, just some powdered sugar, some melted butter, vanilla and a tiny bit of water."

"It's not fair, Jenna, you're still a better cook than me."

"Well, you're learning- besides, you are an inventor and a genius and you still look the same age that I do, so I'm not going to feel sorry for you." Jenna giggled. "So, have you heard from Videl or Gohan yet this morning?"

"No, not yet. I hate to say this but I really don't think he's going to come with us. Poor Videl."

Jenna nodded quietly, drizzling the fine white frosting over the still warm coffeecake. "You mean poor Pan. Is she still asleep I wonder?"

"I wouldn't be surprised, but unlike these three, Pan has an excuse. Well, well, if it isn't the living dead. I see Trunks, Goten and Kai all getting up just in time for brunch. How late were you guys up last night?

"You don't even want to know, mom." Trunks assured her with a wry smile, pouring himself a glass of orange juice. "I can't believe this, are we really going out there or did I just dream what happened last night?"

"I'm afraid it was pretty real, alright." Jenna giggled nervously.

"Well, speaking of that, there's just a few more hours left until your father told me to expect that we need to be ready. Trunks go call the gravity room and tell those two to get their butts up here and eat. He needs to tell us what we are going to be helping with on board the ship when it gets here."

"What? I thought this was going to be like a vacation or something." Trunks grumbled.

Goten slapped him on the back and grinned over his shoulder at the monitor. "You just sit at your big desk and sign things all day, a little work would probably be good for you. Hey dad! Hi, Vegeta. Bulma says the food is ready."

Vegeta and Goku appeared in the living room next to their sons and smirked at each other, realizing that neither had won. Goten shook his head and grinned, while Trunks just sighed, following the two Saiyans into the kitchen.

"Hey Mom?" Kai asked, looking around the kitchen. "Where is Mai?"

"She went to your dorm room to grab some of your stuff. She's been back three times now with bunches of her things, by now I think she's probably mad at you for over sleeping this morning." Jenna sighed. "You want to take over watching your brother for a minute so Bra can get some food now too?"

"Uh ok." Kai looked sheepish, and took he plate out into the living room.

"Ok dad," Trunks grumbled, looking at his father, "What is this about us having jobs on the ship?"

"Don't worry, brat, you and Goten will like your stations. But with half of his crew imprisoned on Kwanzaa, Max will need our help to get us where we are going. The Atlantis is a huge colony ship, she was never meant to land, so it is sectional. Durmast forced his way into the rest of the ship when Max landed on Kwanzaa with the shuttle, and hand picked his prisoners. Without these people, they had to go slowly or risk not arriving at all, at her normal speed; they would have been here by now. Bulma they will need you in Engineering and in medical, the same with you Bra. Mai, Jenna, Kai they will need you on the bridge of the ship, but not very often, Durmast took the most experienced of the bridge crew, but only a few of them because he didn't want to be arouse my suspicions, unfortunately for him it didn't work though. Kakarrot and I will help where we can, but mostly we will continue to train."

"So what will Trunks and I be doing, Vegeta?" Goten asked.

"When we get to where we are going, there will hundreds of asteroid belts and all of them are very dangerous. And the Atlantis is a huge ship much too big to fit through an asteroid belt, so, you and Goten will be responsible for blasting the asteroids off course before they hit us. Through the targeting computer, Athena can even keep score if you want her to."

"Hey!! I wanna play that game too! Please, Uncle Veggie??" Kayin jumped up and down with excitement.

"Yes, Kayin, when you can see over the fire control panel it will be your job to play with these two slackers and show them how to clear the field, got it?"

"Yeah!!" Kayin laughed, crossing his tiny arms over his chest. "I'll show those slackers."

"Who is Athena, Vegeta?" Bulma asked.

"Athena is a sentient, intelligent super computer that runs the Atlantis."

"Well, this doesn't sound like much fun, why do I get stuck in the control room while Trunks and Goten get to play asteroids?" Kai groaned.

Vegeta smirked. "Because I know better than to trust my son and Goten with a room full of beautiful former pleasure slaves, of course."
