Chapter 14
As for me I awoke content, mid morning. I was more comfortable then I'd felt in weeks. I was relaxed and the haze that had become so natural no longer covered my senses. I lay in oblivious peace for a few moments before I shifted and felt the slick residue between my thighs, that's when it all came rushing back to me. I blinked away my shock for several moments before I realized Turles was not in the room. This fact thoroughly tainted my happy frame of mind. `He just….well…he just….and NOW he's not with me!' Was all my exhausted mind could gather. I slid out of bed slowly and decided to go look for him. As I passed my window I looked out and saw Turles sitting beneath the nearest tree surrounded by Vegeta, Nappa, and Radditz. I could not see their faces or hear what they were saying, but Turles did not look happy. I opened the window a crack and my saiyan hearing instantly picked up on their conversation.
Earlier that morning, Turles had been awoke from his dreams when he sensed Prince Vegeta's ki on the approach. When his Prince touched down he was met outside the compound by Nappa and Radditz and they immediately converged on him. He didn't like looking up at them, but standing would reveal his…current predicament…
Radditz eyed him suspiciously and said. “Turles, why are you out here?”
“That's none of your business Radish.” Turles taunted definitely not in the mood for interrogation.
Nappa snorted. “Well aren't we touchy this morning. Wake up on the wrong side of the bed? Or tree as it were.”
Turles growled in response.
Vegeta growled back. “Don't play games with us Turles, I can smell it on you.”
Turles knew all to well that he was caught, but for the sake of Holly's honor he lied. “Smell what?”
“Sex.” Radditz stated blankly.
“You had sex with her before the end of her first heat?!” Nappa accused loudly.
Turles snorted he didn't want to move from his spot and reveal his aroused state so he continued to pretend like he didn't care.
“Why would I do that?”
“You care for her.” Vegeta stated bluntly
“Abnormally so, since her transformation.” Radditz interjected.
Turles snorted and a practiced scowl fell over his face. “Only because she's abnormally weak from her first transformation we all were. She's the first female super saiyan we have to make sure she's well taken care of.”
Vegeta raised an eyebrow in obvious disbelief. “So that's all she is to you, just a comrade in arms?”
“If you can call her that?” Turles shot back.
His words cut me deep. He sounded so uncaring….. After he had watched over me and eased my pain I didn't want to believe that he would brush me off as nothing more than a fellow saiyan who was too weak and insignificant to be considered a comrade, let alone a…..I refused to think about what could have been and I knew that after all that had happened I would never know whether he truly cared for me or not. The worst part was he was right I was not worthy to be called a comrade for I was not truly saiyan a detail it was easy to forget in this dimension. I turned away from the window loathe to hear anymore and headed to the bathroom.
As soon as the shower came on I burst into heartbroken sobs. I stood beneath the water just wallowing in heart break before frantically scrubbing to remove his scent from my body. I couldn't stand it. When my body was clean and my eyes dry and red I stepped from the shower and quickly dressed. While dressing I had made the decision to go home. The only thing now was to find a way to do that. I hurried into my room and turned on my laptop. It came on and I opened the document that had continually appeared to me with questions. I packed and pondered how to get back while waiting for a question to appear upon the screen.
As an after thought through my haze of shame and heart ache I pulled out a slip of paper to scrawl a farewell to the saiyans I had come to think of as family. They deserved to know I was a fraud.
`Dear All,
I am sorry to say that I have deceived you. I am not a saiyan from another time or dimension, I am a human from another dimension. How I came to be in this dimension and with saiyan powers is beyond my understanding. I never meant to hurt you. And for all the trouble I've caused I am truly sorry. It was an honor to meet and fight beside all of you. I wish you all the best. I will never forget this time.
-Holly'
The moment I completed the letter and a tear fell upon the script I heard a beep and turned to see a new question appear on my laptop screen.
`Are you sure?'
I hesitated for a moment thinking of the look on Turles's face when I turned super saiyan and the way he laughed the day we played with the children, but then a harsh voice in the back of my mind spoke out crushing all those memories into dust. `Maybe I'm just a good actor.' I took a deep breath and typed.
`Yes.'
Then I began to dissolve back into pixels through the computer screen and reformed in my computer chair back in my dorm. I looked around confused and bereft. I reached out with my hand trying to form a ki blast like Turles had taught me, but nothing happened. That's when I knew it was over and I did the only thing I could I lay down on my uncomfortable dorm slat and cried myself to sleep.
Meanwhile, while I had been packing and preparing to leave Vegeta continued to grill Turles.
“You fool…” He said.
Turles could feel shame swelling within him. He knew how it sounded and he was ashamed of his two faced nature, I had shown him that. He looked up at Vegeta with determination in his eyes.
“Vegeta you must know that I would never do anything to hurt her!? Why do you question my honor, my restraint?”
“It is a precaution only, she is still in heat and even though your control is good, you could be susceptible to the effects of the heat just from being in close quarters with her.”
“So what if I am?!” He said emphasizing his words by slamming his fist into the ground. His anger had caused his arousal to dissipate and he quickly stood to face his Prince. “I would never do that to her!”
“What makes you so sure?” Radditz questioned harshly.
Turles squeezed a fist and got right in Radditz face. “Because I LOVE her DAMNIT!”
The three of them stood in silence staring at the irate saiyan before them in partial disbelief and confusion. “I would never stand a chance with her if I broke saiyan law or if I took her before she was ready!”
More silence followed for a few very long moments, before…. “Does she know this?” Vegeta asked.
Turles gave him a puzzled look and Vegeta elaborated. “Does she know that you love her?”
Before Turles could even think to reply they all sensed my ki disappear as I was sucked through the computer.
“No! Not again!” Turles said fearing the worst as he bolted up to the window of my room.
“How can that be? There is no other ki signal for miles?” Nappa asked in bewilderment as they followed.
They looked around my room and Radditz found the note. “Look at this.” He held it out and the four saiyans crowded around to read it. When he finished reading it Turles felt like his heart had just been torn out and incinerated before his very eyes. He was confused and dazed. He turned towards the doorway not wanting the others to see the pain that he knew was clearly etched on his face. She was gone…..
“What….I don't understand…” Nappa said confused.
“She's gone.” Radditz whispered letting the news sink in. Vegeta sighed and turned to walk over to stand just behind Turles, he stared at his subordinate's back and spoke with a deep almost defeated sounding tone.
“I guess that answers my question then…doesn't it….”
“It doesn't matter now….anyway you saw the note, she's human.” Turles snapped anger, bitterness, and confusion permeating his voice.
Vegeta scowled. “She was a saiyan here, I know that much is certain it doesn't matter what she is or was somewhere else.”
Turles leaned against the door frame heavily, he knew Vegeta was right, but he was going through all the stages of separation and heartbreak. Denial, anger, so far… But he did turn his head to stare at Vegeta as his Prince spoke his next sagely words.
“I tried….I tried to keep you from making the same mistakes I did, Gods know they almost cost me everything. Somehow…by sheer luck I was able to fix my mistakes.”
Vegeta looked pained as he continued. “I was reluctant to admit my feelings as well and because of my pride, I almost lost her….I didn't want you to suffer for my mistakes, but it seems there is nothing stronger then saiyan pride….” He gave Turles a sympathetic look before heading out of the room.
Turles was in shock he had heard Vegeta's words and knew what he said to be true, but he hated himself for never realizing his folly. He felt as if all his ki had been sucked from him and he fell back to sit dejectedly on her bed lost in self hatred and despair.
……………………… 8230;….
The following days were hard on everyone. Vegeta informed the others of the situation and all were very upset about Holly's leaving. Even Nappa and Radditz after a few days came to realize that the barracks wasn't the same without her. She was like their little sister; she brought life into the house. With her around they could almost pretend they hadn't been through all the horrors Frieza had put them threw. Turles took this time by far the worst. He spent his time in self loathing. If he wasn't silent, sullen, and confused he was in an bitter rage. Raddtiz and Nappa often had to stop nothing short of beating sense into him to make him stop his destructive rampages around the barracks. His nights were sleepless filled with memories both good and bad, all he could see was her face and feel the pain of regret bearing down on him.
His condition bothered Vegeta, which in turn bothered Bulma. After she heard what had happened from Vegeta she couldn't help but remember all too well how much it hurt to be separated from Vegeta she couldn't imagine the pain not only Turles was going threw, but Holly as well. So she knew it was up to her with her amazing genius to do something.
For the next two months she spent the majority of time in the lab trying to find a way to find Holly in her dimension and a way to get Turles to her. Every time she saw him she saw how deeply he missed her and new getting them together again was the only solution.
Finally in the name of love she cracked the secret of interdimensional travel. She was so ecstatic she laughed and shrieked loudly when she discovered the way to find Holly. Vegeta heard her excitement and mistook her shrieks for panic. He rushed in and scanned the lab for danger as the door swung open Trunks appearing behind him to investigate the same ruckus. When all they found was Bulma jumping up and down and typing frantically at her key board laughing and shrieking happily.
“What is going on woman?” Vegeta demanded slightly irritated with his mate's excited outburst.
She turned and grinned at Vegeta. “I figured it out! I figured out the secret! She laughed again and ran up to Vegeta and promptly kissed him before running back to her computer. “GO! Go get Turles! Tell him I have a way to find Holly!”
Trunks eyes widened at her hurried excited utterance. He walked over to look over her shoulder at her equations. Being a genius himself he was able to understand all the scientific jargon rolling across the screen. His eyes widened and he grabbed his mother's hands. “You…YOU CRACKED THE MYSTERY OF INTERDIMENSIONAL TRAVEL!?” He shouted his own scientific appreciation kicking in. “This is AMAZING mom!”
Vegeta was never positive of the exact scientific significance of what his wife and son chattered on about but he knew that whatever it was it would work. So without another word he took off for the barracks to get Turles.
Turles was sitting outside the barracks staring at a waste land of nothingness lost in deep thought. He rested his head on his knees as he tried in vain to remove Holly's ghostly laughter from his mind. `Will it never stop?' He pondered. Soon grateful for the distraction he recognized Vegeta's ki headed towards him. He didn't move just waited for his Prince to come into sight.
Vegeta landed before the sullen saiyan and with a scowl on his face he growled out. “Quit your moping fool!”
Turles didn't react at all to the Prince's order he just continued to stare off into space. Vegeta snorted and turned his back to his defeated soldier. “Well if you would rather mope then I suppose I shall just have to send Goten or Turles through the portal to find Holly then.”
The very mention of her name immediately caused him to give Vegeta his undivided attention. “What?” He asked.
Vegeta turned around and knelt down to stare straight at Turles. “My mate, has discovered a means to send you through space and time….to find Holly….and tell her how you feel.”
Turles's heart that had long since ceased to beat started to pound once again at his words. A million thoughts once again blasted threw his mind, but only hope permeated his heart and he jumped to his feet and together he and Vegeta blasted their way to Capsule Corp.
………..Once they arrived at Capsule Bulma handed Turles a small tube with a red crystallized gel substance in it, on a chain, it looked like a medallion of sorts. “Now if you put on this you will be able to travel between dimensions.” She motioned to the gate she and Trunks had constructed. “Now I will use this DNA sample of Holly's I collected with this equation and program to pinpoint her location. Once I pinpoint it, Trunks will activate the gate you go through and it will take you directly to Holly's world, your exact proximity to her unknown. To come back squeeze that.” She pointed to his medallion. “It will signal us to reopen the portal and you should be able to return in the same place in which you arrived.”
Trunks stared at Turles hard and stepped up to stand toe to toe with him. “Don't screw this up again. Personally I think Holly is too good for you, but….unfortunately she does not seem to agree. So make sure you do it right this time.” He threatened menacingly. He and Goten had long since realized that their chances with Holly were zero, but that didn't mean they stopped caring about her. Turles nodded understanding all too well the younger saiyan's warning.
“Ready?” Bulma asked.
“Ready.”
With the press of a few buttons and a whizzing noise from the scanner the portal open and Turles took a deep breath and said a small prayer to the gods and stepped through the swirling blue portal into time and space to find his soul's mate.
