Shadows of the Past, Reflections of the Future

(Prologue)

In my shadow I see, the reflection of me

But in the mirror, It's not me that I spy

But my son, Who will free the future, with one single try....

Goku sprayed the water from the faucet onto Goten's head to wash out the bubbles. Goten giggled as he splashed some water. Goku sighed.

ChiChi had been much better at this then him. She had always been the one to take care of Gohan's needs when he was younger, but now, neither were here and he had to take care of Goten by himself.

Sure Bulma tried to help with him when he went over to her house to train with Vegeta, but if Goten wasn't at least in the same room with him, then he'd start bawling and he didn't let anyone else hold him, so most of the time, he and Trunks sat and watched Goku and Vegeta spar outside.

Goten giggled as he splashed the water again. Goku laughed slightly.

"One things for sure though. You sure will be a strong little guy won't you?" Goku asked.

Goten laughed again in response.

Goku turned the faucet off and grabbed the towel that was hanging on the rack. He pulled Goten out of the tub and wrapped the towel around him and dried him off. Goku dried off his hair and it flew out in different directions, just like Goku's, and his black eyes shined with the same mischievous, childlike look that his father's held. All in all, Goten looked exactly like Goku did at his age.

Goku picked Goten up and started back to his room. Goten's brown tail wrapped around Goku's arm. Goku had decided to leave it attached. He didn't know why, he just thought it would be a good idea.

Goku walked into Goten's room and set him down on the changing table Bulma had given him for Goten. Goku slid Goten's pajama shirt over his head and put his pants on.

Goku sighed again as he set Goten up.

"Papa! Papa!" Goten laughed, clapping his hands together.

Goku smiled and kneeled down so he was just tall enough to come eye to eye with Goten.

"You sure are a good little guy aren't you?" He told him taking his hands in his. "You're just like Gohan when he was your age. So carefree and childlike. You seem to act like you know nothing of your Saiya-jin abilities. You're going to be super strong though aren't you?"

Goten just laughed as Goku picked him up and started to his room. Since Goten didn't like being away from Goku, he let him sleep in the same room as him.

Goku entered his room and laid Goten on the bed as he changed into his pajamas, which were basically just boxers.

He laid down next to Goten and put his arm around him. Goten cuddled deeper into his father's arms and soon fell asleep.
