Slow Burn
WARNING:: This is Vegeta/Pan pairing, don't like it, don't read it, don't flame it. Thanks so much. Also Bulma and Bra are not in good light in this chapter at all, but can you blame them really? mmm Marron and Goten are also coupled here. Other chapters will be shorter I hope. This is setting the scene for the real story.
A/N: I have returned to fanfiction after many many years. I still feel anything not taken from the manga is non-canon or of a different time line. So this is all after Z. I'll love you for reviews!
Guess what kids, I don't own Dragonball.

Love Is A Burning Thing, And It Makes A Fiery Ring, Bound By Wild Desire, I Fell Into A Ring Of Fire - Cash
It happened years before, the fall out. Vegeta and Bulma had given up on the other. It hadn't been big or flashy. He simply stopped sleeping beside her, and she started having other relationships. Bra had questioned it, the mother replying with he's an ass, the father with there was never any "love" in this relationship. The brother had said it was more of an issue of vinegar and baking soda, mixed together they exploded, but it never lasted long, and at the end there was little left. The relationship had exploded in heated passion and arguments and then simply died he said. He smiled saying he thought 24 years was a long time. She couldn't understand it, she was only nine. He still lived with them, never changed the way he addressed her grandparents, never stopped caring for her, but he simply ignored or was rude to her mother.
Her mother however seemed to resent her father, the words spoken about him where painful to listen to at times. But in some fashion, her mother was always right. He did care about training an awful lot, he didn't want to meet her friends, he didn't like shopping for dresses with her. He didn't give her scrapes and bruises kisses. He spoke a lot about pride and said some strange things about purging and mercenary work and some very violent things when she asked about what he had done for a living for school. He would get distant when she would make fun of Pan for getting to muddy when she'd 'train' with Goten and Trunks, which looked a lot like Pan getting beaten when they wanted to be alone.
But then Pan was another issue. Her father spoke for hours to Pan, she'd came in to listen once, she heard a lot about a man named Napa and another named Radditz. Pan asked a lot of questions about that one, Vegeta even took the time to draw her funny drawings of stars and planets and angry looking... women? men? she couldn't tell. There where funny words used that Vegeta said where a part of "other languages", which he shared with Pan and sometimes her family when they were around. It was when the word disemboweled was used and she asked what that meant that she stopped wanting to listen. Trunks had been with them and had tried to explain it to her, but she just became more confused, Pan had looked like they where going to get in trouble, and Vegeta had looked worried about her. Pan had finally said its when someone takes your insides out while your alive to kill you that she ran to her mother. They had gotten in trouble, she'd been proud of herself, they were talking about bad things.
But as always Pan returned. Her father had smacked her around to teach her 'lessons', he had tended to her wounds which Pan had said weren't bad at all. It wasn't fair, if they weren't bad then why did he wrap them but never cared when her own knees bled?
Pan cooked for him, and had been for years. Everyone liked Pan's cooking, she even gave Bra massive amounts of baked goods, but no one ate her own food. It wasn't fair, Pan was only a year older and yet her own brother and father took the girl seriously, but not Bra. When Bra had learned to fly at 11 it had taken weeks, they had been patient, but Bra knew they had wished she was like Pan, Pan who had been flying only shortly after walking.
She'd always known her father really loved her best though, he hugged her, her read to her, he never beat her into oblivion, and had never called her weak or a left behind, she was always his princess, he spoiled her. She'd known she was best. Until her mother had proved to be correct, again.
She'd been 12, it was an awful night. It seemed Uncle Goku was off with Uub again and the storm outside was black and full of anger. The noise had bothered her, her grandfather always used facts and science to calm her, her father held her hand and told her princesses had no fear, but not this night.
This night Pan had ran into the compound screaming for "Dr. Briefs". Something about her grandmother had contracted the heart disease and the medication was old. She was sick and Pan needed help, and her Grandfather with rare speed had ran to a lab coming up with some sort of cure. Pan had slid to the floor in the middle of the room.
The girl was dripping wet and looked, as her mother would say, like a wet rat, it was her own fault. Everyone knew you used a plane to fly in rain. She was sobbing, Pan had cried many times on these grounds, especially after Goten and Trunks had teased her. But this time it sounded almost painful, who knew why, she was only sick, and if it was that bad just take the woman to a hospital. No her sobs only got louder as the minutes passed, and after only three of four had passed her father betrayed her.
She was scared, this storm wasn't normal, the wind was bringing down trees and breaking the windows in the compound. As she looked on at the girl who always seemed ten feet tall crumble before her, her father left her.
Letting go of her hand he'd walked over and lifted Pans head, she only cried harder. He grabbed her hand then, told her it would be okay, Gohan was doing everything he could, and Goten must be looking for Kakarotto. Told her that the woman was strong, she was a warrior in her own right. Pan had told him even Saiya-jins couldn't fight disease's and that nothing could bring her back from it, it was natural. He'd fallen silent for a few moments and gotten down on his knees to hold the sobbing girl. He whispered some strange story about Buu turning her into an egg, and how she had no fear. The reply had been hoarse and sounded as if it had been pulled, "I'm afraid, of her dieing... I don't want her to die, I don't want any of them to go" a brief pause and then " I don't want you to go."
The betrayal had been finalized with his promise that he'd never leave without a fight. But she'd heard it, it was implied but still there. He'd never leave her without a fight. It was silent for a time, the small blue haired girl forgotten. Her thoughts had turned to why hadn't her own father said he'd never leave HER , Bra, his princess, without a fight, she asked him not to leave often, he would always tell her to be strong and would leave. Pan's voice had been the one to rip her out of her thoughts.
"I'd never see you again, would I, Prince?" Bra had the feeling that was not a question to ask her father, and she had addressed him as Prince. The tension was thick. What sort of a question was that everyone knew that when you died..."No, I do not think so." His voice was, off somehow, if was heavier and far away.
"I could..." Pan's thought was quickly cut off by her fathers joking reply " Unless they are some serious suckers or they pity me getting my ass handed to me by evil pink blobs filled with that sweet shit" Pan stopped crying a little while Vegeta continued. "Don't do anything stupid girl, I've been there before it isn't a place you want to be, especially not a spawn of Kakarotto. You're all too damn perfect, you'd have to do some serious damage to get out of going up.... And your to fucking innocent to do that shit, understand? Don't do anything stupid, that would be worse for me than being condemned to spend eternity with Freeiza and his pets" The end had been said in a threatening voice and Bra hadn't any real idea as to what had been spoken of, but she knew he'd confided something important to HER. But before her heart could hit the ground her Grandfather had walked in with a small bottle of some liquid and instructions for an injection.
Her father left her then, left her without goodbye, left without asking if she'd be okay, left without a kiss.
She'd never really believed her father loved her after. She was his daughter, it was the only reason he cared for her she reasoned. He'd taken the bottle, slipping it into a pocket, nodded to the Doctor and taking Pan by the hand had taken off into the storm to go to their house. He returned three days later, telling of Chi-chi's recovery to her mother and grandparents who were relieved. But Bra wasn't, Bra resented Chichi after, if she hadn't gotten sick her father would never have left her. Left her for a third class.
Her 'friendship' with Pan ended. She managed to come up with ways to prove to Pan that she was better, best, over and over, until she started to grow. Sometime in high school Pan suddenly was pretty, maybe it was her body, maybe it was how happy she always seemed to be, but she couldn't dig the tomboy part of her anymore, after all, she dressed well, sometimes, when she wasn't fighting. She also suddenly had perfect grades and was smack in the middle of university and advanced classes.
She had been highly embarrassed and upset when Videl had announced at a get together when Karaoke came up that Pan could sing and dance, Hercule had insisted his granddaughter have the best of everything, including the voice and dance classes that started at four. And she'd proven it, begrudgingly.
Bra had felt that was the perfect time to make her crumble, and she did. Pan tried so hard to be a warrior before everything else, she'd kept it secret, "we're warriors not ballerinas". Bra had to dig in that she might be weak but at least she could dance for the men when they came home with a manic laugh. Pan felt horrid and knew the tears where swelling, the jab had been close to calling her a common whore. She turned around quickly to run and smacked right into... Vegeta. Bra felt proud, she knew her father thought that these things where "pansy and for the weak". As she opened her mouth to finish the kill she took note of the way her father was glaring at her. He pulled Pan's face up to his, again, and for the second time Bra had to watch as her father comforted Pan instead of her.
He spoke of being proud of anything that you enjoyed, and never being ashamed of who you where. Her heart finally hit the floor and shattered, at 15 her father had never once even come close to dancing with her, and she'd just put Pan in his arms. Thats what happened, he lead the girl away to dance with, to the shock of everyone, but not before warning his daughter not to 'take her shit out' on Pan again. The look was what scared her, he'd known that she was bulling Pan, he'd simply been waiting to defend her without embarrassing her.
Her mother had been right, he didn't love her. Years later she went to her mother crying. She was 21, she'd been partying. She'd come home very drunk with a few guys. Not uncommon, but he'd been there, and had said it. He smirked and asked what was she doing, the response an orgy father, want to join? He'd smiled a sick smile and said to her, "I would defend you, I'd get over protective, I'd beat the life out of any man who touched you, but you would use it and twist it to your advantage. However I will not allow my line to go to waste. My race will not be ruined and corrupted with you and some whores taint. You'll get a very.... long lasting and perfect birth control until your done with this, or you'll no longer be my daughter." The boys had stuttered something about race and lines, while Bra read in between the lines.
She'd have an operation or he'd disown her. Her mother was smiling, let him disown you. He's a bastard, he will pay, she promised. And he would. Soon. Very soon. He'd pay with his life. Not only his life, his pride, his honor and his dignity. He'd die at Goku's hands, and Pan wouldn't even remember that she'd wanted to follow the bastard into hell.
Ignorable....
Story note, just so I don't get OMG OOC! Plus some good facts... Dragonball without GTs crap. The first and LAST time I will do this, sorry.
It seems to me that most Fanfiction is now written with ideas and information from other fanfiction. I don't think most people have read the original manga or seen the show. It scares me!
Bonding:: nice idea someone started and utter crap. It is non-cannon. Chi-chi is dead when Goku is alive, Vegeta is dead while Bulma is alive, it happens over and over. There is no merging of souls. This will not be used.
Bulma:: Bulma is a bit nuts, and boy can she hold a grudge, no angel my friends. When she meets Goku she pulls out a gun and fires an entire clip into him, a kid, she meant to kill him. She is angry at Yamcha for having girls like him, and holds the grudge for YEARS. She doesn't let it go, and digs into him at every chance. This is also the same woman who Future Trunks states to Goku upon meeting him for the first time, didn't marry Vegeta, because it wasn't her style. She also through out all the series has a funny way of bullying people and enjoying it.
Mates and Marriage:: Chi-chi weds Goku, and I think his proposal to her is the cutest thing I've ever seen. However as just stated Vegeta and Bulma do not, by Bulma's choice. He does refer to her as his wife a few times but Chichi also calls him a mate rather than Bulma's husband. I believe they call him husband and her wife because there is nothing else to really call him. Toriyama going out of his way to state that she didn't marry him, gives me ideas.
Vegeta and mellowing:: Some will say Vegeta mellows in GT because of Bra, I doubt it. He mellows in Z because he can live for himself for the first time in his life. Piccolo states this and they show us with random moments. He smiles and give the famous Thumbs up to Goku. He jokes around inside Buu, he talks to Goku as a person. He taps his fingers to the beat at a party even smiles at Fat Buu and gives him a hot dog when he drools on him, and jokes around with him. This is before they even thought about Bra. He feels guilty about hitting Trunks and takes him to a park of his own accord. He also talks, a lot, hell he rants and rambles more than any other! And shows far more emotion than people want to let on, he laughs, pulls grass, tosses it up in joy, teases Gohan, blushes, drops his mouth in shock, crys, and all this before he even moves into CC. He has a wall up, but it isn't as high as people want it to be. I think of him like an emo boy most of the time. The man lets go of a lot of baggage when he figures out he isn't being controlled by another. He also calls everyone by their names alot more than everyone seems to remember.
Pan and personality:: We first meet Pan, after she has circled the earth three times at record speed. She is four, she did it alone, Gohan and Videl encourage her to fight and to remember her training before she enters the tournament. They weren't over protective and wanted her to do well, they respected her as a normal couple would a mature teenager. She is very happy go lucky and accepting but quick to cry. Vegeta knew her name and says she has the right attitude, and Goku comments something like she may be the strongest of us. Its doubtful she would end up so off from the rest of the Sons, and I also believe she wouldn't end up in any sort of sit down job. She would end up being a fighter, but also goofy like her family, and with a rich famous Grandpa I doubt she'd ever be in real need, or very unpopular, think Videl in high school.
