~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``` Chapter. To Live Again
To see him breathing again, was something Bulma couldn’t stop her eyes from watching. He inhaled and exhaled. She held her own breath until he inhaled once more. It had been this way since he had fallen asleep in her arms, exhausted just as she was. But she was unable to close her eyes. Afraid that it would be a dream. That he was still dead, and this was just simple wishing. So she watched him continuously breath in and out, hoping that he never stops breathing again.
Those memories of his death lingered still, so strong after so many months. His pale face. His blue lips, and his empty eyes still flashed in her brain and wouldn’t leave even as he laid here safe and unharmed. No blood poured from his heart, no tears streaked his face. He was perfect again.
Bulma looked behind her. At some point Vegeta had laid down on the bed and was sleeping. How long had he had this gift in his life before he shared it with her? How long had he kept Trunks a secret? Anger was awakened in her heart but when she turned back to Trunks it all faded as if non-existent. He was here, safe, and warm, and happy, nothing else mattered right now. She couldn’t be angry with Vegeta, who knew how long he knew for? What was the point of getting angry when it couldn’t of been longer then a few hours. Trunks probably couldn’t wait to see her, and Vegeta had only kept him away because, he needed to know for sure that Trunks was healthy. Doctors upon doctors probably checked everything and found him out to be a healthy as a new born.
The knock on the door alerted Vegeta but Trunks didn’t even flinch. Vegeta was quick to check who it was and then opened it when knowing it was his daughter. Her smile was wide. “Radditz told me.” Vegeta stepped back and allowed her through and she immediately went into the bedroom.
Bra smiled to her mother and knelled down on the side of the bed, eyes filled with tears of happiness that it spilled over and on to her cheeks. Bulma touched her daughter’s cheek and smiled. Bra stared down at her older brother as if it were a new born baby, asleep for the first time. “He’s just like me, momma.” She whispered softly touching his soft lavender hair. “Is he okay, now?”
“Now?”
“Daddy didn’t tell you?” Two sets of blue eyes were on Vegeta like a spotlight in center stage.
“What is she talking about, Vegeta?” Bulma whispered with confused anger, trying to keep her voice low but Trunks must have felt the vibration on her chest and began to stir. Bulma eyes went right down to him, and forgot the whole subject while Trunks opened his eyes and smiled upon seeing her face.
“I knew it wasn’t a dream.” He whispered, stretching out a bit only to flinch upon finding another set of blue eyes staring at him. Trunks stared wide eyed at the closeness of the female, shrinking a bit into his mother’s chest like a child meeting a stranger for the first time. But as he gained back his wits, he realized that there was nothing to fear. “You’re...You’re my sister.”
“Yes!” She exclaimed jumping up to hug him. “You remember me.?”
“A bit. I think I kidnaped you.” He whispered with a tinge of guilt, bowing his head.
“Oh, that’s in the past, big brother. It’s all okay now. Are you okay?”
“Yeah. I feel a lot better.” He brought his eyes over to his father.
Vegeta didn’t notice the three sets of eyes that turned to him. He was too encompassed by the picture that was held before his eyes. His son, daughter, and mate, where together, happy and whole. It was something that had never happened before. It was as if someone painted this portrait just to fool him into believing this was actually taken place. It didn’t seem real. But he heard their voices and could see their smiles, and it dawned on him. The pieces that had been missing in his life where once again back, in the palm of his hand. And it was as if, it had always been that way. They acted as if, twenty years hadn’t separated them. All the pain and miserable moments that had consumed them over the years, no longer existed.. And Trunks, fit right in the middle.
Their eyes were on him, he suddenly found and he blinked wildly before questioning them. Trunks smiled deeply, so brightly and warm, a smile that Vegeta had yet to see. “Dad helped me, mom.” He turned to her and she just smiled softly not understanding. “I was so lost. I didn’t know who I was. I didn’t know anything expect I was alive again. And Dad came, and he saved me.” Trunks put his eyes on Vegeta again, and it was his silent thank you that echoed in his blue orbs.
Vegeta , uncomfortable by the many stares spoke quickly. “In a few hours, the kingdom wishes to meet you. There are already many rumors. So we will put on entertainment tonight.”
“A ball, Vegeta?” Bulma smiled with excitement and laughed, “We haven’t had a ball since you were born, Trunks. It will be wonderful. The last one...”
Vegeta’s eyes were on Bulma. Her happiness was something that he had lost sight of. After so many of his failures, it appears that he had done something right. She was like new again, young again. Her eyes no longer held the aged blackness that usually surrounded them and her face was filled with color, the paleness that bothered him so seemed to vanish. Bulma had both of her children with her and they were filled with excitement as her tale continued, even Bra looked different.
Vegeta would have liked to watch them more, to listen to the days before the nineteen year disaster, but he had to make the plans for the ‘ball’, as Bulma had called it. He left the bedroom but he was called by Bra who came out, her smile fading as it did. “Has Goten talked to you?”
“No.”
“Has Radditz?” Vegeta shook his head. “Tell Radditz to leave Goten alone. They are trying to make him leave the planet, dad. Don’t let them do that..”
“Why not?”
“Dad, I know you have the power to call them off. Goten was only trying to protect Trunks. Do not blame him for doing that. I know him. He would have done anything for Trunks, so please, call off the guards. Let him come back to the grounds.” Vegeta sighed and nodded, Bra squealed in her delight and kiss his cheek quickly before going back to the bedroom.
So every planet that lived within two hours had planned on coming. Only the royals of course. But still that was over a thousand people. Their castle could handle normal sized creatures, but if the Rock clan decided to come, it would have to be moved outside. Vegeta put all of this in the control of Bardock who didn’t appreciate it but was going to do it no matter his disapproval. He got back to his suite, Trunks was in his brand new room. All the baby things that had been for Trunks years ago were taken into a holding cell until Bulma decided to throw it all out. Both of his children were getting ready for the ball.
He entered his room, the smell of the woman’s perfume so foreign to his sense of smell it brought back memories of a time forgotten. A time when she had loved to dress up and where diamonds and long gowns were her favorite subject. A time where she wore make up and wore her hair with care. And as he entered the bedroom, it was like stepping back in time to when their first ball took place. The ball when Trunks was born. His mother and father had to have their ball, to show that they were in agreement with the heir to the thrown, no matter how many fights continued to rock their life. Had Vegeta known it would only be a few days later that his parents would die and his son would be lost, maybe he would have enjoyed the party a bit more.
Vegeta caught sight of her standing in front of the mirror in the bathroom, her long blood red gown flowed down her body, tightly hugging every curve. She always looked gorgeous in silk. The diamond necklace and earrings glittered in the light as she turned this way and that admiring her form no matter her age. Her smile was wide and she touched her blue hair that was placed in perfect order, that draped down around her face, most of it pinned tight to her head held there by her tiara that named her Queen of the Universe.
Vegeta gathered himself, straightening his back and turning away upon seeing her catch sight of him. But his named was called and he stopped in the doorway. “How long, Vegeta? How long did you know?”
“There was a reason--”
“How long?”
“Three days. He has been back however, for four.” He turned to face her but regretted it instantly upon seeing her features. As beautiful as she was, her anger was vibrant.
“Three days. You kept him from me--”
“There were complications--”
“Complications? That his mother couldn’t help with.”
“He’s was dangerous--”
“He doesn’t look dangerous--”
“There are things you will not understand.”
“Why, because I’m not as smart as you--”
“No, because you chose not to.” Vegeta was somewhat relieved upon the knocking on his door and he bellowed for them to enter, passing Bulma roughly to go in the bathroom himself.
Trunks entered shyly, sticking in his head first and finding the smiling face of his mother, he entered. His long lavender hair was combed and straightened, swaying with each movement. He wore Royal Sayian armor, which Vegeta must have had order someone to make at least a day or two before this happened. It was perfectly hand crafted with gold trimming. The letters P and T in the Sayian dialect written on his chest plate. His blue cape trailed behind him and he played with it, laughing, trying to figure out what to do with it. Bulma quickly embraced him. “You look gorgeous.”
“So do you, mom.” His eyes dropped down but Bulma lifted his chin to question his sudden sadness. “I heard you and father fighting.”
“Oh, baby, you mustn’t think anything of it.”
“There is something I have to tell you.” He gripped her hand and brought her to sit on the couch. “When father found me. I wasn’t me. I was...evil.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I had no control over my thoughts. I couldn’t control a rage, it wouldn’t stop. I was so scared I didn’t know what reality was. I didn’t know who he was or who I was. All I knew was that I wasn’t safe. Everything and everyone was my enemy. And I could still hear, Klooer, in my head. His orders. His laugh.” Trunks shook out of his nightmare and looked back at Bulma who gazed on him such pain. “I didn’t want to see you. Because I was afraid, you’d be scared of me. I wanted to come to you, when I was ready. And father, he helped me get to you. He marked the path I needed to take. Without him, I would have killed so many. Maybe even you.”
“Oh, baby.” Bulma wrapped him up tightly in her arms, trying her hardest to keep her tears from falling. “I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that.” She suddenly pulled away with a large smile, “But all of that is over now. You’re here and you’re perfect and we are going to celebrate. Come, let’s go find Bra.”
Vegeta was leaned up against the wall when they left. So what he had feared came true. She hated him from keeping Trunks a secret. How can he blame her? IF she had done something like this, it would have angered him the same. Would she understand now that Trunks tried to explain it to her? Would she forgive him? Or would their relationship start to fade just as their scars were doing once again?
Vegeta’s eyes caught something on her desk. He went to it and sat down in the chair. It was about the drug that Tifton, the traidor had given her. And in red, circled over and over again was the word, Death.
Vegeta had stared upon that paper for what seemed liked forever. When the door slammed out in the living room, he shook himself free of the numb feeling and quickly stood, grabbing his gloves and slowly slipping them on. When he looked up Bulma was staring at him, her blue eyes shining with un-fallen tears and she smiled just lightly enough before quickly stepping to him and wrapping her arms around his neck, resting her lips on his with such passion he didn’t realize what was even happening for a few seconds. And when it clicked his arms found their way around her, pressing her hard against him.
Their tongues mixed together for the first time in so many months. All anguish and pain that had held them together released them to reveal the reason they went through all of it. And reason was, it was their destiny.
She pulled back, slowly and softly, smiling with tears falling from her chin as they rolled down her cheeks. “I--” But Vegeta could have cared less what she had to say. He shoved their lips together again and lifted her up in his arms. Softly he set her on the bed, laying now on top of her. “Vegeta, I love you. Gods, I just love you. When will I stop being punished for that?”
His eyes connected with hers, never leaving even as tears fell from her face. He rested his forehead on hers, “Do not blame me. I told you years ago to walk away.”
“I’d never walk away from you.” And she smiled as his lips fell all over her skin and her dress was taken off carefully no matter how impatient they both were to feel each other’s skin. His suit, he just ripped off, kicking off his boots as she laid herself back down on the bed and awaited him to join.
He laid beside her, Bulma touched his cheek with care and love and smiled back at him. “We better hurry. No doubt our kids will be looking for us soon.”
Our kids. Not just Bra. But both of them.
How much of a difference that made for them. They were whole and now complete and free.
