Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ So Blue ❯ Hope ( Chapter 5 )
~~~~```` Chapter 5
Hard footsteps echoed down the long hallway, lit only by the candles upon the walls. Boots smashed quickly upon the marble floor causing the pictures that hung on the golden wall to rattle violently. The owner of these feet could barely contain his agitation for his legs seemed to be carrying too slowly. He had half the nerve to throw himself in the air and fly himself down the path. But he controlled himself by clenching his fists and grinding his teeth, and if his tail still existed it would be flipping and flapping wildly. His power level kept rising with his anxiety causing his eyes to occasionally flicker to teal as Legendary kept itching at his barrier of strength.
He had to keep reminding himself. Keep telling himself that it could be wrong. That it wasn't who he wanted it to be. For that person was dead. Dead a long time ago. But something subconsciously told him he was wrong. A little voice kept persisting that he wasn't dead. That he didn't get killed on his way to planet Gagen. Though he knew in his heart that this little voice was the tiny hope that he had left after all these years was mistaken. He shoved open the large wooden doors to the Tech Ward, grabbing the attention of all the workers in the room. He ignored all of the shocked laborers except the blue-hair female in the navy jumpsuit as she stood from her squatted position before her machine and turned with wide, surprised blue eyes. "We've found him." The words fell from his lips without conscious thought, but he did not regret them no matter the pain it'll cause his mate if he were wrong.
However, her reaction wasn't as he thought. She stared at him for a moment, seemingly searching for any false confidence in his statement and when she found none, her head dropped down to her chest as her hands reached into her pocket and pulled out a clothe to wipe the grease and dirt from them while walking nonchalantly over to her work bench. Her voice was soft and tired as she spoke, "Vegeta, I thought you--"
"I never said I would. But that doesn't matter now, Bulma. We've found him."
"I've heard that before." She dropped her hands on the workbench, bracing herself against it.
"Woman, his ship's communicator has finally been activated." He stalled watching her back stiffen, "That means he has to be alive--"
"Don't do that!" Bulma swung around, her blue eyes set afire connected with the midnight reflection of her mate's. But her head quickly snapped to the sides, smiling nervously to the alerted workers in the dome.
Noticing this, Vegeta quickly barked, "Everyone out." The laborers abruptly dropped all that they were doing and ran for the doors. Once the entryways slammed shut Vegeta turned his attention back to his wife. But her head was downcast, her fingers rubbing her eyes.
"I can't, Vegeta. Not anymore. Just let it go." She sighed with annoyance.
"No. I will not. Not now."
"Then you're on your own. Because I will not allow you to do this to me--"
"What am I doing?!"
"You're making me hope!" Her voice echoed in the empty dome, her words etched with years of pain causing Vegeta's eyes to widen in surprise, though he said nothing in response as she began to pace the floor before him. "For eighteen years, Vegeta we've been looking for him. I just can't take anymore disappointment. You heard the oracle, she said he would die. And there is nothing now to make me think that he is alive."
"That oracle was full of shit. Do not believe such nonsense."
"I do believe her. Ask me why, Vegeta." Bulma threatened taking a step to him, "She knew that our planet would be destroyed. She also knew that it would be because of our relationship. Tell me she was wrong."
"He is alive."
Bulma threw her hands up in the air, laughing with such bitterness before her features were once again as stone and emotionless as before. "You're killing me, Vegeta. Don't you know this? We wasted our lives looking for him that now we don't have one of our own anymore. Our own daughter is a fucking stranger to us. We're a fucking stranger to us."
"What the hell does that mean?"
"Can you honestly tell me that we are the same two people we were before him?" No response came. "Tell me. When was the last time you kissed just to kiss me? Tell me the last time we just held each other. Do you even remember the last time we ever made love?"
"What the hell kind of question is that?"
"Tell me."
His lips thinned while his teeth ground together in frustration. She better have a point. "Seven weeks and two days."
"Seven weeks and two days." She repeated, dropping her head as she turned her back on him and rested her hands wide against the work bench. "And the only reason we did make love, if that's what you want to call it, was because you were in heat…Isn't that right?" Bulma sighed, turning around slowly before meeting his cold eyes with a hopeless void. "Don't you remember what we used to be like, Vegeta? We used to be inseparataebly. We couldn't go one night without touching, or holding one another. He destroyed both of us, Vegeta. He destroyed our lives, our hearts, and our relationship. Don't you see? WE have to stop letting him. I want him to be alive more then anyone else in this world, I would give up everything just to see him, to see his gorgeous blue eyes and feel his soft lavender hair, but it is not possible. He is dead. And we have to accept that before we both just give up on our lives and die in our misery. So please. For the sake of us, Vegeta. Just stop it. Please." She whispered most pleadingly, begging with her glistening blue eyes before she turned away and began for the door only to be halted by his strong, confident voice.
"You may give up all you want, Bulma. But it is him this time."
She slanted her head just a bit side ways, "How do you know?"
"I don't know how. I just know."
Bulma smiled sadly, barely even noticeable before shutting the door lightly behind her.
Arcadia stopped before the door, his eyes gazed with lethargic energy. He blinked as water splashed down into it, his hair, hanging wet before his orbs. The rain poured down upon him, but he could careless for his soaked clothes. His spirit at the moment was dying within him knowing that no one understand what he was going through. Goten acted liked nothing changed. He didn't bother telling his parents. They wouldn't understand. They would just agree with Goten. Saying just let it go.
But he couldn't. They were his family. Even if he didn't know who or what they were, they were part of him. Their blood ran through him. His unknown instinct were itching at his controlled barriers, words of ancient gods were whispering constantly in his head, and all that he could hear was the repeating words of Revenge. It was tearing his sanity apart. Four days since he figured out that he was an alien species called Sayians. Four days since he knew that his family and race had been destroyed by this powerful creature that goes by the name of Frieza. It all sounded so fake at first. So unreal. But Trunks could feel it. Maybe Arcadia couldn't. But the part that was scathing sharp painful nails down in his chest cavity begged to be released and extract revenge and a title that he was born to have.
Arcadia shook his head. He had to stop thinking like this. And that was why he was here. He lifted his hand and gently, weakly knocked on the door. It took a moment to answer but as it did, his blue sorrowful eyes rose to meet that of his ex-partner.
Her eyes widened at first, seeing his pitiful form standing there in the pouring rain but she quickly hid her emotions behind a thick wall of hate and rage, "What are you doing here, Arcadia?" She asked with malice.
"Please, Seneca. I need to talk to you."
"Well I don't want to talk to you. I'm still mad, Arcadia."
"I know. But right now, I need my best friend. Please."
Her eyes lightened and her brows decreased into that of sorrow as she stared at his pale features and blackened eyes. Taking a deep breath, thinking she'll regret this later, she gently grasped his hand and led him in.
"Want some coffee?" She asked from the kitchen as he changed into some dry clothes.
"Please." He replied as he exited in pajama pants. Arcadia leaned against the doorway with a small smile, "I see you stole a few of my clothes."
Seneca giggled gently as she poured him a cup, "I always have a few clothes of you, Arcadia. It helped me remember you when you left all those times." She led him over to the couch handing him a cup. "Did the shower help?"
"Yeah, thanks for this, Seneca. I appreciate it."
"Just don't make a habit of it. You make it hard for me to move on when you do this." She stated with a slight depression in her voice as she picked at her socks while snuggled up on the couch.
"Seneca, I'm--"
"Don't. You're not, Arcadia. Don't apologize when you don't mean it. You're just sorry that I left. But I'm not. What is it that you need, Arcadia? My sorority sisters will be home soon."
"You have to promise me that you won't hate me…or treat me differently. And you got to understand that it's not joke, and it is real. To me anyway."
"Oh, Kami, let me get some coffee first."
Vegeta stood before his mate's bedroom door. Years ago when he was still considered an adolescent brat he would have never thought him and his mate would ever have separate rooms. But it seemed only a couple years after the war with Frieza that their relationship seemed no longer important. She had been right again. This supposable dead child had destroyed their lives. Vegeta hadn't thought it was possible, for their bond had been so strong before his birth and now it seemed completely non-existent.
It had all started after the destruction of Planet Vegeta. It was amazing that they were still alive but with Bulma's ingenious mind, more then half the population of Vegeta-sei were able to escape the explosion of the planet. After meeting on a pre-arranged planet, and building a ship that unfortunately took weeks to make, the royal couple and a few elite guards flew to Gagen to collect the symbol of Lost Vegeta-sei's Future. Only to find out when they got there, that the package had never been delivered. He had remembered that look on the woman's face that day, just the same as his, impassive and composed staring straight at the rulers with blank eyes.
They searched the entire quadrant of that Universe thinking maybe, just maybe the coordinates were pinned wrong. But no such luck. They went back to Vegeta-sei's territory after a year of searching all the forty planets in that quadrant in hope that somehow the pod got knocked off course but none of the planets there had ever remembered a Sayian pod dropping from the sky.
Two years had past until Vegeta and Bulma disheartedly returned to the planet that held the rest of the Sayian race. They moved to a Sayian owned Planet, that was used for Special Op Training and created it into the New Planet of Vegeta. The climate was better on this planet, not as hot, rained an awfully lot though but had two suns as Old Vegeta but only one moon which disappointed many of the Sayians.
Vegeta created his empire again, though many will say it just wasn't the same. The Royal Family seemed to have died along with Lost Vegeta-sei and the crown prince. It had been sad for all them to lose the symbol of their monarchy but that's what happens in wars. There is nothing that could be done. Everyone seemed to know this and understand except of course the two parents.
The warriors watched from afar as the once most talked about, feistiest couple threw away their lives in trying to find their son. They made the pain much worse then it had to be. The Sayian Council had tried to rid their grief by demanding another child born for there had to be a next in line ruler. But that seemed to cause even further drift between the King and Queen. Their once flaring tempers and battle of wits became a battle to see who could stay away from the other the longest.
Vegeta had denied these accusations. Saying that it was all in their minds. He could swear up to this day that their relationship hadn't changed, though he would be lying and since Bulma had said that this afternoon, it was painfully clear that he had been denying their failed mating this whole time.
But it was now time to fix it. Right after this one last voyage. If it turned out to be deceiving and his son wasn't on this planet, then he would give up this fruitless plight and try and mend what was left of their fading bond.
Vegeta lifted his fist, ready to knock but he shook his head and dropped it. It was his mate's for Vena's Sake. He pushed the button to the door having it shut automatically behind him. He walked through her small dorm, his eyes darting around capturing all the pictures that hung on the walls. Before the destruction, when they were still what she called lovers, he had ordered a few people to go to her home world and buy at whatever cost paintings that the woman would like so she wouldn't miss her home so much. They both knew she could never go back to it considering that she now belong to Sayian property. Not to mention the fact that the planet was in the Cold's Empire. But that's a whole other story.
He stalled at her bedroom doorway. Vegeta stared at his mate's back as she laid in bed, blankets pulled up to her neck gazing at that thing she had created many years ago that she called a Television. He never understood the useless contraption but let her alone since he knew how badly she wanted to go back to her planet. She won't miss if forever. Especially now.
"What?" Her voice sounded dry in the cold air, her body never moving to look at him staring constantly at the silent entertainment box.
"We'll be there in a week."
"Great." She whispered in a sarcastic tone. Bulma rolled her eyes at his persistence. She should have stayed on the planet while he left to go deal with rebellion in the north quadrant of the empire. But honestly, she didn't want to be away from him.
Vegeta gazed at her for a moment, before taking off his gloves and placing them on her vanity. He knew he should leave. He had nothing left to say to her. But if he left now, then it would just prove how right she was. And she had been right too many times for Vegeta's pride to take. "Onna." He sighed, rubbing his eyes with his soft, large hand in frustration and exhaustion. Slowly and hesitantly, he took a seat where he would usually lay if they ever shared a bed. It made him sick that he felt so awkward sitting there. "This last time. Then I promise. No more."
"Don't promise me, Vegeta. That's not what I want."
"Then what?"
Bulma rolled on her back, her blue eyes sliding up his body to connect with his surrendering gaze. "I don't want to stop you from looking for him. I will never be able to stop either. Every time we go places and see people I'll always look for any boy his age that would look like him. His eyes, his hair, his beautiful tail. Anything that would resemble us that made him. But there's a difference between looking for him, and giving up on everything and caring for nothing but finding him."
Vegeta nodded, watching as she smiled just barely and turned back to her TV. He stared down at his lap for a moment, not knowing what else to say though wanting to say or do something to break this awkward silence that he made up in his mind.
Taking a deep breath, he leaned back on the bed and hesitantly reached around to spoon his mate and place a gentle kiss on her fading scar. Her body stiffened before she lightly pulled away, "Don't Vegeta." She whispered causing him to pull his head away and knit his brows in hurt surprise. "You're only trying to prove to me and you that it's not an obligation anymore. When we both know it is." She stared consistently at the silent screen not having the will to look her husband's face at the moment nor allowing him to see the tear that fell from her eye at that confession.
Gawking at her with much distaste, Vegeta shamefully pulled away, grabbing his gloves and making it to her doorway only to stall before going through it, "We will arrive on Earth in one week. And it has never and will never be an obligation, Bulma." He shut the door behind him leaving his mate in shock.
"Oh, Arcadia." Seneca took his head and brought it to her chest, holding him tight as he wrapped his strong arms around her in the comfort he had been seeking for these past four days. He snuggled deeper into her bosom taking in her sweet scent thinking to himself how badly he had missed the feel and smell of her. "I'm sorry, Baby. It must be so hard for you." She whispered gently into his ear as she caressed his partly dry lavender hair. "And me leaving you, being a bitch, oh, Kami I'm sorry. I didn't know." He had just finished explaining to her about him being an orphan from a planet that know longer existed. And all this time she was thinking only of herself.
"Kami, Seneca, I just don't know what to do. I feel so lost now."
"I'm sure you do, honey."
"Goten just wants me to forget it. Mom thinks I shouldn't even care. Dad doesn't care. It's like I'm the only one that's wants to know who I am."
"They have a family, Arcadia. That's all they need. So of course you're going to demand answers. You're family was taken from you."
Slowly extracted himself from her hold, he lifted his blue eyes to her green orbs, so understanding and loving, Arcadia graced her pale cheek with his large hand, "You're my family."
"Kami, Arcadia, I love you so much." She leaned in and kissed his soft lips, moaning just lightly when he tightened his hold around her. Tediously they separated, panting in one another's face before Seneca smiled and gripped his hand, leading him to her bedroom and wrapping him once again in a passionate kiss while they dropped down as one on the bed. Arcadia rolled on top of her, thanking the gods that he had got her back only to pull away suddenly and stare down at her flushed, heaved features. "What is it? What's wrong?"
"Not tonight."
Her brows knit, "What do you mean?"
"Not tonight. Not right now. You pity me right now. I don't want that."
"Arcadia--"
"Let me just…Let me just hold you, for right now. OK?" Her eyes wildly switched back and forth between his eyes, trying to figure out just what he was doing only to find his confusion and his temporary emptiness. Smiling sadly, she nodded, moving till their heads laid on the pillow and together they just stared at one another through the night.
