~~~``` Chapter 27 News from the Forefront.
It had been heard from the intercom all around the planet. And everyone who had someone sent into battle had quickly flown to the top of the mountain were the castle stood and gathered right outside the doors of the Communication balcony. Above it was a blank screen and soon a com-link will be hooked up and they will see the leading commander that was stationed on Planet Yunor to tell them of the current situation.
After having the small confrontation with his nephew, Radditz had nearly tripled his speed to get to the Communications room. One of the perks of working in the castle. You do not have to congregate with all of the other thousands of Sayians outside. And plus he would know instantly of his son's health and more then likely be able to get a direct link to speak to the boy. That is if the child even wanted to speak to him.
He hurried through the door, and stalled. Vegeta's eyes met him, and the expression upon his face sent him back a step. The link had started but Radditz heard none of it, the eyes of his closest friend, of his king, told him all he needed to know.
A hand touched his shoulder and he barely felt it but the voice of his father echoed through him, "I'm sorry, son. But he died honorably. We cannot mourn for that." Radditz's breath hitched, he stumbled away, quickly turning, wanting to get out but that's when he met the eyes of his mate, standing there with a pleasant smile on her face.
"When's that jerk coming home?" His mouth was opened and it moved with it's breath intake but words did not process in his throat. She called his name, her smile steadily fading. He pushed past her and ran down the hall ignoring his mate's cries when the news struck her.
It was different for each of them. Radditz ran, Maddox cried, Bulma held her and let Maddox do the sobbing for both of them, Vegeta stared out of the balcony windows, seeing his people below yet not even knowing there was a kingdom waiting for him to speak. And then there was Bra, who had entered just in time to witness her ex lover's name being read off the list of the ones that would never be coming home. Her gasp had sounded, deafly to her but everyone turned their eyes to her hiding corner.
Her blue eyes filled with tears though she felt nothing inside. Her brows knit, he had to be wrong. She stepped forward, her father turning to her. "Daddy…"
"There was nothing I could do."
"It's not true…"
"It was the only way. Kali knew that. And he took it upon himself."
"He…But…he…"
"He died with honor."
Her breath swallowed, her eyes dilated. "No." She shook her head, her lids tightly shutting. She felt the arms of her mother embrace her but she pulled away violently, "He's coming back."
"He's not."
"Liar! You don't know him like I do! He's alive!"
Vegeta cut in on her outburst, "Bra, stop this--"
"This is your fault! You sent him away! You could have said no! You're the king! Why didn't you go! If you wanted the planet so damn much why didn't you go!" Vegeta powered up, the only way he would be able to grab his daughter and keep her from smashing everything in the room in her wild rage. He could see the way her tail thrashed, she was delusional, and for a Sayian in grief, it was a dangerous combination to say the least. He gripped her arms, her fists smashing against his chest as she ranted, "You did this on purpose! You didn't want him and me to be together so you sent him away! You sent him to his death! You murderer! You killed him! This is your--" Vegeta held her tight in his strong arms when she slumped against him in her sobs. Her cries wailed throughout the communications room, all who were watching had tears in their eyes not just for the lost of a close friend, but because they could feel Bra's pain through her wretched cries.
Goten ran as fast as he could down the hall to Bra's bedroom. If his mother hadn't been persistent of him eating something he would have been able to go with her to the communications room. His heart pounded in his chest, telling him something was serious wrong with Bra. He hadn't felt her when he got out of the tank but sometime between dressing and meeting his mother a sudden ache filled his heart. It had been an hour since it started and he was starting to get worried.
He typed in the password given to enter her room, and hurried to find her curled on her side, her back to him, her shoulders shaking. Was she crying over him? Goten smiled softly. No one bothered to tell her he was all right. She still didn't know the good news. Wait until he tells her they're allowed to be together. He could feel the excitement all ready flowing through him. Goten gently crawled up on the bed, his hand softly rising up her arm to rest gently on her shoulder where he kissed her delicately. He nuzzled her ear, gently singing softly in her ear, "Young girl, don't cry I'll be right here when your world starts to fall." He chuckled softly in her ear, "If you were from Earth you would have told me how corny that was. Hey, stop crying, baby. I'm OK. Look, I got to use that tank thingy and it fixed me right up." He curled in behind her, taking in her deep scent, holding her tight in his arms, "Hey, I know something that will make you happy. Your mom just said we can see each other, isn't that great? Not like I would have listened to her if she said we couldn't but now you're not getting hurt by any of it--" He stalled, browns knitting when Bra pulled out of his embrace and stood with her back to him, her arms wrapped around herself. "Bra what's--"
"Kali's dead." Her broken voiced echoed the empty room.
Goten sat up, "What?"
"He's dead, Goten. He gone." As if the energy she had completely vanquished, Bra's body fell to her knees, her fists smashing into the carpet, her body trembling with the most excruciating sobs.
Staring at her powerless form, Goten understood that this was something she wouldn't heal at all fast enough. Although he felt no loss considering he just met the man, seeing Bra in such a way pinched his heart in knots. He slid from the bed to his knees behind her, taking her in his arms. "I'm sorry, baby. I'm so sorry." She turned to bury herself in his chest. Holding her for several minutes he finally asked, "Is there anything that I could do for you?"
Bra shook her head in his neck before whispering, "I just want to be alone."
"You sure?" She nodded. "OK. If you need anything I'll be right down the hall. I'm here for you, baby." Goten lifted her face from his neck, cupping her soaked cheeks, "I love you, all right? I'm not going any where. Just take as much time as you need." Her eyes shut tight, her head turning away when he moved in to kiss her lips. He didn't mind it. He picked her tiny body from the ground and gently set her on the bed which she instantly curled away from him. With a sigh he left the room.
Vegeta landed on the ground with a soft crunch of the ground. Taking a look at their surroundings, he sighed heavily. He picked off his scotter and his cape setting it on a rock coming up behind the silent Sayian staring at the light purple water. Vegeta crossed his arms over his chest, joining the man, though letting him decide when he felt like talking.
Bra stared blankly and quietly at the two objects that lie on her pillow. Tears spilling consistently over her rims but she noticed none of it. She had buried herself deep in the hefty animal furs, memories of his proud smile when he had killed these once lively carnivores popped in her head only adding more tears to her river. Her shaking, pale hand lazily, almost deadly, crawled up to grasp the small ring, her face trembled in threatening sobs but she subdued them long enough to read the inscription that circled the inside. 'Forever mine.' He had given this to her when he had proposed on her sixteenth birthday. She had quickly gone out and gotten the same for him though it was hard to explain to her mother why she had spend a million venas on jewelry.
Bra slipped it on her finger, the memory of their last conversation burning away her tears and filling her heart with hatred for her own being. She wanted to hurt herself, slice her skin, and if the pain would still not suffice the ache in her heart then maybe killing herself would be so much better.
She felt disgusted; she felt a dirtiness she didn't know how to explain. She had nearly mated with Goten and even now she couldn't tell if she really did love him or if she was just using him. But did it matter? Did any of it matter? Kali was dead, and so was her heart.
Bra gripped the little projector in her hand and pulled her legs tighter to her chest. She pressed the button setting it softly on the mattress and looked out. Her eyes closed the instant she saw her lover transparently standing before her with a warming expression over his face. She forced herself to look at him, her lips pursing together to keep her sobs at bay. His voice made her heart squeeze tight to a point she thought she couldn't breath, but she pulled in that shaking breath to be able to hear his beautiful voice. "So…how many curses have you voiced since you got the news? You are probably screaming sinful words at me this moment, aren't you? And nine out of ten you are asking me why. Or if your doing none of this, then you are lying on your bed, wrapped in my gifts of fur, crying your eyes out, hating yourself for how we parted. I know you, love. Better then anyone else in this universe. I was a coward. I ran away. And I did not bid you farewell before I left either, which is one thing that I never expect you to forgive.
"I wish not for you to cry for me, Princess. I did my duty, I served my king, and I honored my family. I know that my death was needed for this war to end and I'm going maybe with reasons that are spiteful and cowardly but I'm doing what I need too. You could say I'm expecting death, wanting it. And even as we speak, and I know that I will die, I am not afraid. I am empty inside.
"If only I could see you again. Hell I could go to you right now and take you in my arms and mate with you and leave without ever saying a word and that would have been just fine for both of us. I should do that. But I am a coward. I want to see you again, to touch you, your lips, your body, everything that I once had, I want you. But the guilt is too much for me to handle." He stalled, his eyes strayed and his hands ran through his long hair, "Natally is pregnant." Reluctantly his eyes straightened to hers, even if he didn't know she was lying right there. "I can not face you now that I know this. I am lost and ashamed of my actions toward you and Natally. Will you talk to her for me? Tell her I am sorry. You two were comrades once. We were all comrades once.
"I wanted us to be forever. I would have given everything for you except my teachings betrayed my thoughts." Bitterness embedded his voice, "I couldn't dishonor my family, I couldn't dishonor the Kingdom, and that is why we were never going to stay together. Forgive me for my weaknesses.
His anger was present when he became to pace, his tail flipping about behind him, "I wanted that baby to be ours! But my father! He wanted a perfect son! I couldn't do anything else, love! Do not hate me for this! I will willingly spend the rest of my life in hell if it meant you would still love me! And I am sorry that I was foolish! That I couldn't change!" His eyes turned to her, his anger relaxing into sorrow, "And I am sorry I used you as an excuse. I always knew your heart, love. I knew you would runaway with me if I just implied. But I couldn't let you because I couldn't let myself. I made up excuses that you were too young to know, too foolish but truly it was I who was young and irrational. I wanted to be with you but I was not willing to risk everything for it like you were. But do not think that I loved you any less than how you loved me.
He calmed again. A relaxed smile on his lips, "Your heart is so pure and so free. Untainted of Sayian regulations no matter what you think. You are more human then any of us half-breeds. And I could never be that. And that is why we were different and that is why we fought many times of our relationship.
"This is getting long, I am sure you are sick of seeing my face by now. But I only have a few words left. I want you to know, that it is fine with me, that you mate someone. I know it is inevitable but just incase you are searching for that little piece of information to feel no regret in your life that is what I give you. All I ask in return, love." His face got hard, his face stern and fists clenching, "is that you do not mate with that poor excuse of a cousin of mine. I do not know what it is but I cannot stand the thought of him having you. But I know you won't for you told me yourself you hold no feeling toward him. So I trust you.
A smirk twisted on his face. "Just remember, mate, in two hundred years from now, not a minute before, when you come to the after life, I will be waiting at the gate for you, and you will be mine and whoever fool you mate, I will just have to challenge him." His image flickered and in an instant it was gone.
Her chest began to heave drawing in deep shaking breaths, listening to all he said. She didn't know what hurt worse anymore. Knowing that fact that Natally was pregnant with her lover's child, knowing that he was gone forever and never coming back, or knowing that she had all ready dishonored her dead mate's only and final request. Bra pulled her body tighter, her sobs reached out to the heavens and she whispered her lover's name repeatedly off her shaking lips.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``````

"Is Maddox…"

"Cursing you to the seven hells. Yes."

Radditz chuckled a bit, shaking his head, "She gets bitcher every moon she is with child."

"Maddox was always a bitch. Do not blame the brat."

Vegeta watched the older man; his eyes were to the ground, watching the water flow with a blind sight. Just when Vegeta was going to say something, he spoke up, "Her stomach hurts. Why?"

Vegeta dropped his head, "She's giving birth."

Radditz flung his eyes up at his once pupil, "She is only seven months." Vegeta nodded. The longhaired Sayian snapped to his feet but a hand grasped his wrist denying him permission to get into the air. He turned his head back around, eyes desperate and full of fear but his voice nor his features expressed any of this, "I need to go to her, Vegeta."

"There is possibility the newborn will die. You need to deal with the death of your first before you can handle another."

Radditz's eyes slit, and he was just about to retaliate but the king's words were right. If the baby should die, he would not have the right set of mind to take care of his mate. Coping with Kali's death first would make him stronger. So the old man listened to his king, setting himself back down upon the earth. "How long?"

"Long. They will not do anything without you there beside give her pain killers." Vegeta dropped down on the grass, lying back to stare up at the sky.

A sigh escaped Radditz lips. "It is not his death that pains me much. It is not the suddenness of it either. I knew there was always a chance he would not make it back. It is how we left on awful terms that eats at me now. We fought many a time since he began courting the Princess. I prohibited him and he rebelled against me. I had no power over him when it came to her but every time the look of determination dwindled for he knew continuing on with such treason would dishonor him. And that is the only thing I could get him to think on. He wanted his pride and honor and going on with the affair would tear it away from him. But, dare I say he loved Bra.

"Our last conversation. He told us he was leaving for the planet. I thought the best thing for him was to leave to find whatever it is he had lost along the way. But then he told me Natally was with child and I saw the shame in his eyes. He went on blaming me for all of his pain. And then he had the will to tell me how much." A paused was present as he took a deep shaking breath. "He told me he hated me for what I condemned him to. He left and now I will never be able to redeem myself from his hate." Vegeta snapped his head up at the surge of ki he felt from his closest friend, watching with wide eyes as Radditz slammed his fist into the ground, the floor, cracking and breaking apart like a spider web across the rocky earth. Vegeta caught the sight of water on the man's face but he turned away before it could be recognized as anything other then sweat. "He is dead out of spite for me. I drove him to his death. I pushed too hard. I expected too much. And I will now suffer till my death for my foolish mistake." Radditz stood, Vegeta also and without any words they jumped to the air and headed for the castle.
