~```` Chapter 30 Significant

Vegeta's eyes strayed over the unconscious body that, after much consideration on Vegeta's part, instead of lying on a cold, hard ground, now was resided on a one person mattress with no sheets upon it. This ship was used for only short travel, One or two days to be exact and usually only he himself would be using it.

Vegeta stared at this kid that couldn't be more then twenty years of age, covered in dirt and grim including stains of blood in various places. But for the life of him, he could not figure out what it had been that possessed him to the extent to start a full-scale war against Klooer just because of this one insignificant creature.

It wasn't like him. He didn't do things such as this. Even if it had been a three year old child, he still would not have taken part in this confusion. Only for his mate and daughter would he give up his throne, or would steal them right from under Klooer's nose. But for this unknown child!? Vegeta literally wanted to beat himself with a stick for his stupidity.

Then again there was something. Let it be the crusty, stiff hair of lavender, or the dirty, bloody, pale face, there was something that this young one retained. What it would be, Vegeta could not fathom. It angered him. He has threatened the entire existence of his glorious empire for a reason he can't even explain! He should be kicked off the throne for this! His father would now look upon him in shame! All he had strived for now tested because of this one innocent, meaningless child.

As Vegeta analyzed him, his eyes straying down his bloody cheeks and cracked lips over his naked torso which was cut and bruised down to his cut up pants stained with red, it was obvious this kid had been abused if not worse used. To imagine that if Klooer actually thought this kid had his blood running through the young one's veins. Imagine the torture he had endured for it. Not that he had anything to do with this, mind you. No, the kid as he had been told knew nothing of anything, he had been beaten and battered just to have royal blood. Perhaps it had been pity that provoked him to get the kid from Klooer's grasp. But was pity enough to endanger all of his rule?

Or maybe that it had to do with the fact of the gull this kid possessed when he suddenly slammed his leg in the lizard's stomach. Vegeta had expected it, felt the boy's ki seriously rise, and was ready to follow through. Why had he secretly agreed to that?

All these questions and no answers. And still he had so many.

Was this kid his? Could it be possibly? Was it his parental instincts that proved to be stronger then even he imagined? His need to protect what was his, drowned out his knowledge that really his son had died so many years ago?

But how could that be? How could this be the young one he had lost? The proof was all there. Even a witness proclaimed the child dead. They were facts and nothing would change that. Not his will nor his desire could alter the truth.

However, there was still a possibility, as much as Vegeta thought different. Radditz's nephew might have lied. But what reasons would he have? There were no rational ones Vegeta could think of but then again he wasn't thinking at all rational. For if he had been he would have never once questioned the paternity of this gorgeous creature before him that could only be that of his mate's. The eyes were unobtainable in the known universe by any sort of scientific drug, or mythical spells. Even humans which possessed eyes of variety could never have the depth or the flicker of a goddess light that was held within them. No they were unmistakable. Vegeta would have known that if he had any logic rotating in his mind.

He took a breath, blinked finally, took a step back as he suddenly realized he had been a breath away from the sleeping mystery. Vegeta decided then that only until the reports of his medical staff would he then believe what was true. Only then would he pass judgment. Slowly walking backward, swallowing the agitation in his stomach. He was afraid to look away, afraid to blink again. The beautiful child might just vanish if he did so and Vegeta did not want that to happen. At least not until they knew he was just another lie.

However his eyes were taken away but the automatic door shutting him out. He went to reach for the button to open but then stalled. It was better this way. Now he would be able to recollect himself before landing on his planet and facing his questioning loyals and his enraged and betrayed mate.

Bulma gazed at her form in the mirror. Her fingers slowly going through the tips of her hair that ended just below her bust. Why had she grown this out again? A smiled graced her lips when the memory hit her more then eighteen years ago. Her husband always had his own ways to charm her. 'You look less ugly.' Oh, how those words swooned her enough to make love to him again and again. She had grown this for him. He liked long hair for some reason, maybe so he could run his hands through it as he kissed her. Which he did almost always.

However her musings suddenly sickened her. She huffed, her lavender brows quickly knitting and her plump lips set in a deep frown. That bastard. He ruins everything! Never can he treat her once as his wife. Everything must come before her! Only except when he wants to mate. Men! They all think the same no matter what species!

Didn't he understand yet? Didn't he get it? The pain won't end unless he stops with this fruitless plights! She wanted to scream, wanted to yell. It wasn't healthy for him to dwell like this. It had not been for the last seventeen years! But then again she had just realized this for herself only months ago. She'll agree that her dwelling was pathetic, but his….His was an obsession! And no matter how many tears that fell from her eyes as she pleaded, it was as if he was too addicted to this dead child to care, even for her. And she couldn't really blame him. Which made her infuriated.

Bulma picked her brush and ran it through her long strands, needing to relax before her husband returns depressed and in need of her. She had finally broken a chain of his. If he wants to hurt then let him, but for the moment, her will was too strong to allow it. She did not want to cry. She was so sick of the swell of tears. She was so sick of how pathetic she was.

Her hand tightened on the handle keeping herself from throwing the brush at vanity in her anger. Hours ago he left and had not returned. He had just walked away caring nil for her wants, for her pleas. All for what? For this unknown male that was locked in a cell? Many are P.O.W. why is it that he does not retrieve them? No, it had been because this time, he 'felt' something. Great! Who the hell cares! She'll admit she had felt something too. Sick! It was obvious the kid had been abused and now was to suffer. And anyone suffering under the care of Klooer was enough to make bile rush to her throat. She also felt pity for the damn creature but that didn't mean she was just going to pack up everything and head toward the enemy.

A knock interrupted Bulma's reflecting. She leaned forward to press the side button on the outlining of the mirror instantly being greeted by a small full body head sized view of the visitor at the door. She smiled flicking her hair over her shoulder while she went to the door. Pressing the button she greeted her long time friend with a smile, "Maddox." they hugged before she lead the woman over to the couch. Bulma gently stroked the older human's wet cheek, smiling reassuring. "How is your child?"

Maddox sniffed, wiping her tears from her flushed cheeks. "He is well. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, Bulma for all you have done for him. I know had it not been for you and your technology he would have died. I do not think I could handle another death."

"Do not thank me, Maddox. It is the least I could do to help ease your pain. However this is good news. Certainly no reason for tears."

Her green eyes fell to her lap, her fingers playing with the gold band. "Radditz and I had another fight. I know Kali's death destroyed him weather he admits it or not but he won't speak to me of it. He was never one for conversation but he still had his ways of explaining just what he was feeling. I wish he would mourn and let his pain leave him but he stays comatose. I thought the burning would take his agony but it is as if he wants to suffer and this I told him. I may have been out of line for instant anger flashed in his eyes. I thought he would hit me again but it was as if he had sensed my fear. He left after which."

"But what started such feud?"

Her head bowed. "I had asked if I mattered to him anymore."

"Why would you ask such a question?"

Maddox slumped back in the couch much un-lady like but Bulma had maneuvered herself comfortable with her legs crossed and felt no threat. Tears sprung to her eyes however as she spoke, "I admit that I have been extremely depressed over everything for a few past months. How could I not be? Bulma, if you only knew. Since Kali left us for the planet, Radditz and I had not talked once. He never apologized, not that I expected him too but he has his ways to show me when he is sorry. However he did none of these for the words he spoke and his abuse of me. All words we have for each other are insults and bitter remarks. Never does he come near my person. He did not want me to have this baby the human way, he made that clear and in this birthing that is all I hear from him. That is it my fault. And that if I would have died he would hold no blame. He is crude in his words and I do sometimes believe he had wished he never found me."

"No, Maddox, never think such things."

"How can I not, Bulma. I am human. I have a natural instinct to doubt. Even after all this time I still do not know if it is love he feels for me. And if he did love me, how could he harm me?" Her head rolled to view her queen, glistening green eyes pleading in question. "I know this is personal and you need not to answer. Has the king ever laid a violent hand on you?" With a shake of her blue hair, Maddox face crumbled.

"Oh, remember Maddox, he was raised so differently. It is commonly for Sayians to hit their partners when they are angry. But Vegeta was brought up under royal policy."

"But Radditz's knows I am not Sayian. I do bruise when I am hit. I do hurt when he is rough. Why does he not care?" And tears spilled from her eyes along with chocked sobs from her lips and Bulma instantly surrounded the woman with her arms, gently stroking her black hair.

After several minutes of whispering soothing words into her temple, Bulma smiled as she spoke, "Don't remember the bad parts of this story only the good ones. You remember after we were captured by Frieza and put on the ship. How we lived in our own part of the wing where dangers would not find us. We were in the Food Facility. And you nudged me to look over my shoulder and when I did those three devious Sayians stood in the doorway. My eyes instantly caught the short one but your eyes went for the tallest of them all with the longest mane in the world. And your first words to me." Bulma broke off laughing, "'Kami how I'd like to run my hands through that.'" Maddox pulled away, her tears momentarily stalled in her laughter, sitting back against the couch. "And that moment he had turned your way and without our knowledge he had heard you. That infamous Sayian smirk appeared on his lips."

"How do you remember that? It was more over twenty years ago?"

"You would not let me forget it. You went on all night about how gorgeous he was. You were twenty years old by then and I was an innocent fifteen. You screwed me up with your talk through the night." Without even realizing it, her proper tone and correct grammar slowly drifted away when memories of her past flowed into her thoughts.

"Innocent my ass. If I remember correctly you couldn't stop your fantasying over shorty."

"If Vegeta heard that from your mouth he would lock you in the dungeon."

"Let him try."

"Anyway, back to my story. That very next day all three showed up in our medical bay to use the tanks. Did we ever find out what had beaten them so badly?"

"Our conclusion had been correct. Frieza had punished them again."

"Right. Well, we were on that shift and I the decent one that I am could not have the nerve to look at the naked bodies in the tank you however--"

"Hey, I will fight my case to the very end, I was making sure he was all right."

"Yeah, uh huh.--"

"Do not even! I know you took a few peaks of your own. Otherwise your cheeks would not have been so bloody red."

"Mine were professional glances. I was just checking to make sure all the correct pads were in place."

"Yeah especially around his hips."

"That is just sick. Stop making lies."

"Ok Ok, keep going."

"Ok. So the three of them exited the tank finally and I had my own trouble with the arrogant prince, but I do remember you're little run in with Radditz. I turned suddenly to find you two staring at each other. Him butt naked as the day he was born standing in front of you with his arms crossed over his dripping wet chest. Hell, even I thought his body was sculpted like a god. And you, you couldn't move. He had to literally rip the towel from your hands. After he wrapped the towel around his waist, I noticed him whisper something to you but I never knew…"

"He said to me. Oh, Kami I remember. He said to me, 'You'd like to run your hands through what, woman?' I turned beat red. He smirked at me and it made my knees serious wobble. And his tail had graced my leg and that was why I had screamed like I did."

"That's right. The three boys had chuckled all the way to the lockers."

"The next day he past me in the hall and literally demanded that I come to lunch with him. And after some groping on his behalf I agreed. Only to find you there with shorty!"

"Hey, he had trapped me what was I to do?"

"Right right. And that night, had to have been the best night of my life. He was so demanding yet patient. We mated through the night."

"I had put off Vegeta for months before I finally agreed. When the gods made them, man oh man did they do everything right. That is except give them a sense of humor."

"So true."

"What happened after that?"

"Well…The boys the next day were shipped off to another purge and I was sent to Klooer."

"Oh, yeah that's right. Frieza had been so angry with you for sleeping with Radditz… let's not talk about that. Let's skip all of that to the point where Radditz found you again. I never get tired of this story."

"Ok, well, I had been given to these certain guys that go on long missions. There were three of us women on a twenty person ship. I don't know where we were or what happened but all I heard was shouts, the ship shook, and that booming voice of male Sayian language. I couldn't understand it of course but I knew what it had meant. We were going to all be killed. They were checking each room, killing all that was in it and then that bald headed Nappa popped into our room. The two girls were cowering behind me and I glared at him. Mind you now this had been a year later and I had forgotten all of everything on Frieza's ship. So I had no idea who the hell that was. However he received a call from one of his other men and shut the door. Soon afterwards it was another that opened the doors and the first thing I saw was his ankle length hair and immediately froze."

"He had asked about you, if I ever told you that. He had questioned me, wanting to know your whereabouts but I knew nothing. Vegeta had explained to me that Radditz had intended to make you his mate."

"I can still remember the expression on his face when he saw me. He was speechless and his mouth fell so wide and his eyes unblinking. I had forgotten him all this time, thinking it would be better if I left all of my happiness behind and not have any desires so I would not suffer. But there he was. I don't know what I was thinking. I was too blind by the fact that someone I actually trusted and knew was there that I rushed to hold him. After I threw my arms around him he however immediately detached me from his person and scowled at me. 'Warriors do not hug, human.' Manly as his voice was I could see his relief in finding me. He took me off that ship along with the two other women that had become my friends and got us to safety. That night he made me his mate. Kami it sounds awful romantic when you think about it." Maddox sighed contently, staring off as if remembering and seeing it all play out in front of her. Soon her eyes finally turned to Bulma, "Thank you, my dear friend. You have made me forget my woes, I am so grateful for you." She embraced the younger woman once more before standing, "I must step back into reality again and care for my only child."

"Maddox, have patience with Radditz. He pains and knows not what to do."

"This I know. But I am only a stupid, heartfelt human. I will wait for him to come to me. No matter how long it takes. For I have no life without him."

"He feels the same."

"I used to think so."

"Vegeta always tells me, to ease my worries, and now I tell you. When Sayians take a mate--'

"They take them forever." She smiled, "Radditz told me that the first time he marked me." Bowing slightly, and with higher spirits, she left the room.
