The Forgotten Character: Yajirobe's Tale

By: Teari

Warnings/Disclaimers: I don't own DBZ, or anything to do with DragonBall. All original characters are mine; the storyline is mine as well. This is made for fun, and generates no profit. This story is part of a fan fiction challenge called "The Human Challenge" (if the below link doesn`t work, just follow the directions below).

This contest is located at http://dbbulma.cjb.net/

then, click on the link named `contests', then go to the link marked ` Fanfic Contests', click on the current contest (it should be labeled: Current Contest: The Human Challenge; if it's not, go to Previous Contests, and look it up). After that, you will be taken to a story that has all the human members of DBZ (with one or two exceptions) sitting around a campfire; below that are the rules to that contest, and below that is a link called "Current Entries & Voting". All of the stories will be there, including mine.

Okay...I think that's all. Enjoy the story!

Taking in a deep breath, Yajirobe looked into the fire. "The things I've done are numerous-I couldn't begin to explain them all, or the stories behind them." Looking thoughtful, Yajirobe took out a small object from his pocket. "Look at this little guy-you'd think that everyone the whole world over would want this wonderful little bean, wouldn't you?"

Krillan nodded, a wistful smile on his face. "Yeah…that little guy helped save our lives more times than I remember."

Yamcha nodded, his face serious. "I know." Then, his face broke into a big grin. "I always wondered what would happen if everyone got a hold of some senszu."

"Isn't Bulma trying to perfect a synthesized formula for the world that does the same things as a senszu bean, Yamcha?" Tein asked, poking the fire with a stick.

Yamcha nodded as he pushed his hair back over his shoulder. "Last I heard, yep. Although, I think she finally gave up on it-she said she didn't see the point of making a synthesized version after Goku told her Korn had a never-ending supply."

"It's a good thing Goku told her that. You wouldn't believe the problems that'd spring up from a `magic bean'." Yajirobe got a disgusted look on his face, and shook his head. "Disgraceful."

"I don't see the problem with it. Why shouldn't everyone have access to the senszu bean? Everyone has a right to be healthy-especially if it can cure them."

"Um…I'm going to have to go with Chaotzu on this, guys. I think that this would help out a lot of people-and I don't see why we should be the only ones that know about it. It seems…unfair, at best." Krillan said, giving the fire a good poke with a long stick, making the flames spark higher.

"I don't want everyone to have a hold of them. Then, when we really needed them-and we will if these Sayjins are as tough as Kami says they are-we won't have any. And the Earth will be under their control."

"Yamcha, how can you say that? I'm sure if people realized that the Earth was in danger of being overrun, they'd be more than happy to help us out, and give us the senszu!" Chaotzu's voice rang, chastising Yamcha.

"Don't be too sure of that, little one. You and I both know a few people who wouldn't do that at all. A few would even not give us the senszu for spite." Tein's voice came though, to Yamcha's aid.

"So, I take it that you don't think normal people should have the senszu either?" Krillan asked.

"No, I don't."

"Hey-thanks man. It's nice to know I'm not all alone in this."

"Why not?" Chaotzu asked, his voice laced with anger, and curiosity.

"I can answer that, Chaotzu." Yajirobe's voice broke through the argument suddenly. Yamcha turned to face him, a look of wariness on his face; it was as if he was trying to figure out if Yajirobe was lying or not. Krillan jumped at the sound of Yajirobe's voice, and shook his head as he rolled his eyes. Tein and Chaotzu both exchanged a look, with Chaotzu picking himself up from Tein's lap, and sitting cross-legged at the edge of the fire. Tein leaned closer to the fire, his eyes lit with understanding.

"You have a story." It was more of a statement than a question, although, both Krillan and Yamcha shared a looked at Yajirobe's nod.

"I do." Yajirobe said seriously, placing his hands out to the fire. "I do indeed."
