Chapter Three

"Death's Demon Shadow"

Vegeta slowly opened his eyes. It was light around him, so he must have slept soundly through the night. His head now throbbed steadily with pain. He slowly rose, fighting it back and was met with an evil cackling. A strange shadow loomed before him and stepped into the light. It was Shai, back in his Saiyan form that Vegeta first saw him in.

Shai grinned evilly and said, "and now, Vegeta, you're all mine." Numbness strangely overtook Vegeta, preventing him from moving. Shai's eyes glowed blood red and a black, water-like substance formed a barrier around him. He growled primordially and began chanting, his voice rising with every word. "Death, destroy, maim, plunder, decay, hate, chaos, revenge, obliterate, DEATH'S DEMON SHADOW FIRE!!!!!!!!!!" He fired a black beam at Vegeta. It wrapped itself around him, cold and damp. Vegeta struggled to breathe. He tried to free himself, but could only wiggle uselessly. Shai laughed insanely. "And NOW, Vegeta, you DIE!!!" The Death's Demon Shadow (henceforth referred to as DDS) squeezed Vegeta with bone-crushing force. It felt like he was being stabbed all over, and he could very well have been, for blood was seeping out through various wounds. The DDS wrapped around his neck and began to crush it.

"STOP!!!" A voice cried from the shadows.

"No way, girly, there's no way you can stop me!" Shai replied.

A girl stepped from the woods.

"Stay back, Cosorce!" Shai yelled.

Cosorce? Vegeta managed to think.

"Get away from him!" Cosorce growled.

Shai laughed and the DDS crushed Vegeta harder. Cosorce took a step forward and clenched her hand into an angry fist. "I said let him go!!!" She snarled, her voice rising. Vegeta's vision was starting to fade. Cosorce leaped forward and punched the DDS, but her hand went right through it. She stopped abruptly before she accidentally punched Vegeta. Shai cackled like a madman, which he was.

Cosorce closed her eyes.

"Ah, I see you know it's hopeless." Shai sneered.

Cosorce put her hands beside the pendant on her necklace, one to either side. "Pink light." She whispered. The chain floated up and the necklace floated freely in the air, then the chain dropped to the ground while the pendant started to spin. Suddenly, a thick beam of pink light shot straight up from the ruby and into the sky. The necklace pendant had stopped spinning and was facing the sky. It slowly tilted towards Vegeta in the DDS' grasp.

"What the Hell is that?!!" Shai demanded.

Cosorce's eyes remained closed. All of a sudden, the DDS hissed and squealed. It lit afire and fell to the ground, writhing and bubbling. Vegeta collapsed, unconscious, beside it. Cosorce's eyes flashed open.

"Now get lost." She snarled as the pendant returned to the chain, which hovered above her head for a moment before dropping back around her neck. Shai snarled and pointed a finger at Cosorce.

"I'll get you, you little bitch!" He snarled, and then ran into the forest.

"Whatever." Cosorce muttered.
