“Hullo Bulma!”

That voice, she hadn't heard it for over three years and yet she recognised him instantly. She shot up from her foetal position on the hard, narrow bed and pushed her now messy blue hair out of her eyes.

“Goku?!”

The face of her oldest and most treasured friend was peaking around the corner of the door, a happy relaxed grin on his face. He fidgeted a little putting the large iron key to her door on the broad leather belt around his waist before entering and closing the door securely behind him. Goku had changed a lot since he went missing three years ago. His body was broader and had gained more muscle mass, he had also gained some extra scars which riddled his arms and had quite a rather nasty looking one snaking across his jaw line. When he walked over and sat on the bed beside her, Bulma had to reached out and grab his arm to make sure he was really there and not just a figment of her imagination. The Earth raised Saiyan chuckled softly as the blue haired woman hugged his arm to her chest and let out a little moan of relief.

“We were so worried about you, Goku! Piccolo said the last time he saw you; you were talking with a Saiyan who claimed to be your brother. Did you leave with him that day? Why didn't you tell any of us? Chi Chi is distraught, and Gohan misses you terribly! We all miss you!”

Goku gave her a sad little smile and awkwardly put an arm around her shoulders, careful not to hurt her with his now phenomenal strength. He didn't know how to explain it to her. Things that seemed so complex and confusing to others were simple to him and vice versa. How could he explain his reasons to his oldest friend without hurting her?

“I... guess I just didn't think. Raditz told me about an entire planet of people just like me. People who would understand why I feel the way I do and do the things I do. I just decided then and there that I wanted to go. So I went.”

He chuckled softly and scratched the back of his head sheepishly, a slight blush colouring his cheeks as he tried not to look at Bulma's perplexed expression.

“I hadn't intended to stay this long. It truly was going to be just a quick visit to see what the place was like and to get the chance to fight other Saiyans. But, I guess I just got wrapped up in it all. I became fascinated with the lifestyle here, and well... I didn't forget about Earth... it just... didn't seem as important anymore.”

Bulma was startled at that little revelation. Since when was Earth not that important to Goku? She frowned slightly and began to move away from him, but his arm tensed slightly, holding her in place. The blue haired genius looked up at Goku curiously, but his usual happy, open face was closed off to her. What had these Saiyans done to him? She sighed softly and rested her head on his broad, warm shoulder.

“Do you not miss your family? You have a wife and child at home, Goku.”

The Saiyan shrugged a little, and a shadow of that old smile flickered across his lips. He felt that he had done a lot of growing up in the past three years spent on this harsh, red planet. It wasn't that he was different now, that wasn't it, he was still Goku but perhaps now he was little more like Kakkarot as well.

“I am sure that Piccolo is training Gohan well, Roshi is there too, so my son will have no shortage of people teaching him to be a warrior. Anyway, I think Chi Chi had her sights set on him being more academically minded than a fighter.”

Bulma frowned and tried again, Goku seemed to be taking all this way too well, it was almost as if he didn't really care anymore.

“And Chi Chi... what about her?”

Goku chuckled a little and ran his fingers through his mass of unruly spikes. He should have known that coming to see Bulma wouldn't have been a walk in the park. She always did ask a lot of questions, and would never stop until she had the answers she wanted.

“Chi Chi is a lot tougher than people give her credit for, she can take care of herself. Don't worry, Chi Chi will be fine!”

Bulma rolled her eyes and let out a frustrated sigh. Sometimes talking to Goku was like bashing your head against a brick wall. There were some things that the Earth raised Saiyan just didn't understand. But then again, she had never really understood his relationship with Chi Chi. From what she could remember, the fiery tempered woman had made him promise to marry her, and the hapless Saiyan had simply agreed. She often wondered if Goku knew what he was getting himself into.

“She misses her husband, Goku! She doesn't need you to take care of her, or go and fight great battles in her name! All she wants is for her husband to come home, she wants her family to be whole again!”

She felt her old friend tighten his arm around her slightly and he turned and looked at her with serious eyes. Bulma had only ever seen that look in his eyes when he was in battle, so it was slightly unnerving seeing that look mere inches away from her face.

“We both know that Chi Chi wasn't the one I should have married...”

“Kakkarot!”

The couple sat close together on the bed jumped and blushed like two horny teenagers being caught making out by an angry parent. They both looked up to the doorway to see where the gruff voice was coming from, and found Bardock standing there. His muscled arms were crossed over his broad chest and he glared disapprovingly down at his son with his arm wrapped around the beautiful young genius.

“Father...”

Bulma's eyes widened and she quickly looked between the two men. How the heck had she not noticed before? They were the spitting image of each other! The only differences being that Bardock was more battle worn and his demeanour commanded respect.

“What are you doing, Brat? You should know better than to touch what belongs to the King!”

That did it. Bulma pushed Goku's arm from around her shoulder's and swiftly stood up. Putting her hands on her hips and raising her chin arrogantly, she stared the Saiyan General down.

“I am sorry, but I do not belong to the King! I don't belong to anyone!”

Bardock raised one eyebrow but continued to glare at Goku, seemingly ignoring the hot-headed woman who stared at him with fury burning in her eyes.

“Father, she is an old friend and she has found herself in a situation she has no control over and she's now out of her depth. Bulma needs a friend right now.”

The General snorted and shifted his long fur cloak to the side, casting his gaze towards Bulma who looked as if she might attack him at any second. He admired her for it, but he knew that that attitude may end up getting her killed.

“If you do not want to bury your friend, I suggest you keep your distance, Brat.”

The two glared at each other in stoic silence for some time, before Goku finally looked away from his Father's burning gaze and stood up. He let out a heavy sigh and his shoulders slumped slightly as he walked by his Father. He didn't get very far as Bardock grabbed hold of his arm and whispered softly in his son's ear.

“She was never meant for you, Kakkarot.”

Goku nodded mutely before leaving the room, and Bulma could do nothing but watch him go. What had his father whispered to him to make him look so crestfallen? She just didn't understand it. Nothing made sense anymore.

Bardock turned those merciless black eyes onto the tiny blue haired Earth woman in front of him. He could definitely see what his son saw in the young woman, but he had also seen what would happen if he pursued her.

“I am... sorry for this unfortunate situation, Miss Bulma. I had hoped that my King would be excited about the project and look over the fact that you are a mere woman.”

Bulma's eyebrows shot up into her fringe as she looked up at the Saiyan General in utter disbelief. A mere woman? A mere woman?! No one had ever said such a thing to her before! She was Bulma Briefs! The smartest woman in the world! She might as well own the Earth the way people revered her, and here was this savage calling her a mere woman!

“And what is that supposed to mean?”

The Saiyan took note of the dangerous tone in her voice and the way her bright blue eyes narrowed on him. If looks could kill, he was sure he'd be six feet under by now. A tiny smirk played on his lips and he allowed himself to lazily lean up against the doorframe.

“It means, Miss Bulma that you are not on Earth anymore. Things are done every differently on Vegetasei. To have a woman in a place of power is almost unheard of. Even a Queen will be overruled by her King.”

He paused to allow his black eyes to rake up and down the young woman's body, his lip twitching in amusement as Bulma wrapped her arms around herself and took a step back, finally lowering her eyes.

“I did not expect my King to go so far as to send you to the slaves' quarters, but be thankful he did not put you in his harem.”

Bright blue eyes widened and her mouth opened in shock. Bulma's arms tightened around herself and she took yet another step back from the smirking Saiyan who seemed to be enjoying her discomfort immensely.

“He... the King has a Harem?”

Bardock frowned and cocked his head slightly to one side. Perhaps there was more to learn about the humans. From her reaction, he assumed that harems weren't common place on her planet. Why was this? Did the humans have an aversion towards sex? His frown deepened as he once again looked the blue haired Earth woman up and down, taking in her full rounded breasts, the tantalising way her waist nipped in and hips flared out giving her a tempting hour glass figure. If all Earth women looked like her then he couldn't imagine why they'd have such a problem with sex.

“Yes, of course the King has a harem, why wouldn't he? Saiyans spend most of their time in battle, and King Vegeta is no exception. Sex is the ideal way to relax and unwind.”

Bulma stared at the Saiyan in disgust and astonishment; she didn't know how she was going to survive on a planet where women were seen as second class citizens. So far, the King had not made a very good impression on her, and although she supposed Bardock was being as nice as he knew how to be, his attitude wasn't exactly welcoming. Coupled with the drastic change that had come over Goku, she found herself lost at sea and swimming with sharks. Discreetly wiping her sweaty palms on her jeans, she raised her chin defiantly and once again challenged the General with her bright blue eyes.

“It was in our agreement that I was to have my own house outside the palace walls, instead I find myself thrown into a slave's hovel. I insist that you transfer me to my house, or I shall be on the next space shuttle out of here!”

Before he could stop himself, Bardock threw back his head and let out a bark of laughter. Oh he liked this woman. She would more than likely be dead within a couple of days if she spoke like that in front of the King, but right now she was a well needed source of entertainment. He watched as her proud defiance turned to rage at his laughter, which just made him want to laugh even harder. Quickly composing himself, he bowed his head a little in apology and smirked down at the angry young woman.

“I understand that a house was in our agreement, but then again so was the fact that you were going to invent new weapons for us, and it looks like that won't be happening any time soon. I will talk to the King about...”

“No you won't. I will.”

Bardock's eyebrows shot upwards in surprise and he quizzically cocked his head to one side. Her fire and stubbornness reminded him so much of Vegeta it was rather frightening. He could see that if only the King could over look tradition, she would make a great addition to the Royal House of Vegeta. He raised his chin in an arrogant manner and pointed an accusing finger at the fiery young woman.

“So, you want your house and to make weapons... You will tell the King this?”

Bulma crossed her arms and smirked a little, glad that she was finally getting her own way.

“Yes, I will tell the King this.”

A slow grin slithered across Bardock's face as he chuckled softly and regarded the young woman with amusement.

“This should be a very interesting meeting...”
