Goku heard repeated tapping and opened his eyes, not knowing at first where he was. He saw the lights from the control panel and various monitors and screens illuminating the room around him.

Goku sat up and his control seat moved up with him to an upright position. He rubbed at his eyes, then looked down at himself, naked, but for the blanket that covered him.

Goku looked over to the sound of the tapping and saw Vegeta in his own control seat, busy tapping away at the keyboard and absorbed by what he was looking at on his monitor. Vegeta had obviously showered, his hair standing in a pert point and shining. He was wearing black leather pants and a red tank top. His feet were bare.

“Hi.” Goku said hesitantly.

Vegeta said nothing.

Goku stared at Vegeta for a moment, then rubbed at his still sleepy eyes. He heard movement and looked up to see Vegeta coming towards him. Vegeta sat on the edge of his seat next to him, his back to Goku as he looked at Goku's control seat monitor.

Goku wanted to put his hand on Vegeta's back, but was afraid to. Vegeta typed away at Goku's keyboard. Goku watched, not knowing what to do or say.

Vegeta finished typing then turned to look at Goku and with his eyes indicated that Goku should look at the monitor. Goku looked at it, puzzled. The monitor showed a view of a planet, red as a ruby. Goku looked at Vegeta, a question on his still sleepy face.

Vegeta turned back to look at the monitor, then tapped away at the keyboard again. The monitor image switched to a view of a solar system. There was a red planet in it, third from the star. Goku guessed it was a view of the same planet but from a different angle.

“I don't understand. What are you showing me?”

Vegeta turned to Goku, his face blank. He pressed a key while still looking at Goku and the Saiyan Radar headed their way. Vegeta moved Goku's monitor out of the way, then tapped the keyboard a couple of times and the Saiyan Radar started to blip. Actually, the entire screen just lit, then faded out -- light, dark, light, and dark. There were no coordinates on it because every light used to indicate a Saiyan reading lit up at the same time.

Goku looked at Vegeta in concern. “Is it broken?”

Vegeta turned back to the screen. “I thought so, at first. But then, of course, my radar is doing the same thing. I'm guessing yours would as well.”

“What does it mean?” Despite his concern, the still waking-up Saiyan yawned heartily as he asked the question.

“Well, I've got a suspicion.” Vegeta tapped a few more keys, bringing an image up that Goku found strange. It looked like space itself had folded in half, like a piece of paper, then re-opened with a wrinkled edge in the middle.

“What's that?”

“I think it was once a black hole.”

Goku looked alarmed as he screeched, “We're close to a black hole?!”

Sounding annoyed, Vegeta answered, “No, idiot! As I said, it looks like it was ONCE a black hole. It seems to have closed off somehow.”

Goku blinked, trying to take in all of this information, just having awoken and after what they had done before he fell asleep, well, it was a lot for his brain to handle. “So, what does it mean? I don't understand.”

Sounding impatient, “Kakarot, you need to understand this.” He turned to face Goku, then said, “I'm not sure, but this is my hunch after looking at this for the last several hours. There was once a black hole here, and it may have gotten clogged. Not sure. That's what it looks like. But it was still trying to suck up matter and the force of it was pretty strong. It seemed to have caused this whole, I don't know, sector of the universe to fold together with its force, buckling it. Then it stopped functioning as a black hole, and space here unfolded again. But, and this is the strange thing, its like a Rorschach inkblot test, folded in half, you get an image that is equal on either side.”

Vegeta typed in coordinates to show an image of an area of space that had a ton of debris floating about it. “That's what's left of planet Vegeta.”

Goku blinked, realizing he was looking at what was left of the home planet of The Saiyan Race.
“How… how did you find it? I mean, did you know where to…?” Goku sputtered one question after the other, not really sure of what to ask.

“I knew we were getting close, just a couple of solar systems away. I hit the hyper drive while you were asleep, wanting to have a look at it again.”

Goku had sat up straighter when Vegeta had first pointed out the remains of planet Vegeta, so his face was now near Vegeta's and he was able to see it clearly. The look on Vegeta's face was distant, perhaps a little angry, but otherwise blank.

“Wow.” Goku scratched his head, looking at the image. Then he realized something, “But what was all that black hole stuff about? I mean, is it close to what's left of Vegeta?”

“Yes.”

Vegeta turned to face Goku. “The Saiyans had technology, but it was technology borrowed from the Tuffles and then Frieza. Perhaps we were too much under Frieza's thumb,” Vegeta looked bitter, “but whatever, we seemed to have missed this little folding of space, overlooked it somehow or didn't notice it in our travels. This obviously had occurred long before any of us were ever alive. Whatever,” Vegeta turned back to the screen. “This is what's left of Vegeta after Frieza destroyed it.”

Then Vegeta tapped a few keys and the ruby red planet he first showed Goku was back on the screen. “And this is the mirror version of planet Vegeta.”

Goku blinked, stunned. “You're not saying…”

“Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying, Kakarot. It's Vegeta. A carbon copy. At least, I think it is.”

Goku, stunned, sat there in silence, absently scratching his head. Vegeta typed a few more coordinates and then reached for the Saiyan Radar screen, pulling it side by side with Goku's monitor. He typed and then Goku's monitor showed the coordinates of the copy of planet Vegeta. Vegeta hit the transfer button on the monitor and then the Saiyan Radar once again blinked on and off. Vegeta faced Goku.

Goku's eyes opened wide with disbelief.

“It's picking up Saiyans, Kakarot. Millions of them.”

Goku stared at Vegeta, stunned. He ventured, “What if it's like last time, and they are just ghosts?”

Vegeta shrugged. “There's only one way to find out.”

Vegeta looked at Goku, then a small little smile appeared on his face. Vegeta put his hand on Goku's thigh, and after a brief caress through the blanket, he gave it a little squeeze, then stood up. Looking down at Goku, looking like the imperious Vegeta of old, he said, “Get showered, changed, and grab a bite to eat. You need to be ready. We've got a little trip ahead of us.”

* * *

Goku showered and changed into his orange gi, having felt compelled to do what Vegeta commanded. It was obvious that Vegeta was absorbed in what he had found and had little time to acknowledge what had happened between them. But Goku couldn't help but feel, that somehow, this was dangerous and possibly a mistake. What would another planet Vegeta be like? Goku hadn't had very much luck with run-ins with people from his own race. The thought of a whole planet full of them did not comfort him.

Goku grabbed some food - he was starving, especially after having sex. He ate for over an hour, eating anything he could get his hands on. As he sat there eating, he thought of his misgivings and then a question entered his mind: If he were so uneasy each time they picked up a Saiyan reading, why had he come along on this trip?

Finished eating and not wanting to be alone with his thoughts, Goku returned to the control room and saw Vegeta just as absorbed as he had been earlier. Vegeta was wearing his Saiyan armor and looked at the screens with a mix of impatience and anticipation on his face. He looked intense and reminded Goku much of how Vegeta always carried himself, especially in the earlier days of their acquaintance.

Goku sat in his control seat and looked at some of the information that Vegeta had left on his monitor. He didn't say anything, leaving Vegeta be, but then was surprised by Vegeta coming over to him. Again, Vegeta sat on the edge of Goku's control seat. Goku looked at Vegeta cautiously, not knowing how he was supposed to act. Vegeta stared at him, again, looking intense. Finally, Vegeta leaned in and gave Goku a sensuous and suggestive, open-mouthed kiss that stirred the other Saiyan's loins in an instant. The look on Vegeta's face when he broke the kiss was hungry.

“I know you are nervous about this.”

Goku blinked.

Vegeta smirked. “You've got that look you had just before we left to inspect that ghost ridden space station.”

Goku scratched the back of his head and smiled sheepishly. Vegeta grunted, “Clown.”

Goku heard the old taunt used with a different inflection. Vegeta leaned in again, his arms around Goku's waist and he nuzzled Goku's neck before he started to kiss and bite at it, that same purring sound coming from deep in his throat as it had earlier. Goku's breathing quickened, having the Saiyan Prince show him such obvious interest.

Vegeta pulled away and looked at his younger lover. He brought up a strong hand and cupping Goku's face, he caressed Goku's chin and lips with just his thumb. “Look, I don't know what's going to happen. We both know this is big. Or it could be just another phantom like the earlier readings were. But there's one thing I promise.”

Goku swallowed, feeling the power of Vegeta's body rising around him, Vegeta's ki threatening to overwhelm his senses. “A promise?” Goku's voice sounded nervous, despite his effort not to.

Vegeta smirked. “That when we get some time alone, I'm going to show you the pleasure you showed me earlier.”

Goku felt his heart flutter at the promise. From the look in Vegeta's eyes, it was obvious that Goku was in for a special experience whenever it happened.

Vegeta smirked at the look on Goku's face, then stood up. With his back to Goku, “I've programmed the coordinates and we've already been on our way.” He turned just his head to look at Goku, again a smirk playing at his lips. “It should take us just a couple of hours.”
