The Perfect Ten

“You looked really strong out there today” Goten started as him and Pan walked around the tennis stadium, looking for the nearest exit that gave way to the parking lot. Goten was carrying Pan's equipment bag, heavy due to all the extra clothing she had to bring with her in case she would have to stay in the stadium for a longer time than the one expected. It was often the case she'd have to shower and stay to do press conferences and talk to different newspapers about the game or talk to boosters about plausible contracts and/or deals after the match. Today, however, that wasn't the case. Thankfully enough they had gotten out fast which gave her more time to spend with recently arrived Goten and both their families
“Thank you. I kinda feel lightheaded. My wins are so unreal. It hasn't fully hit me yet” she said. Goten furrowed his brows
“I can't say I was prepared to hear that” he said impressed
“Why not?” she asked dubious. He tsked looking into her eyes
“Come on. I know you-”
“Can I have your autograph?” the pair stopped dead on their tracks, turning around to face the origin of the voice
“Sure” Pan replied kindly enticing a smile from the little girl asking for her signature. The girl handed her a small notebook and a pen. Pan signed her name rather quickly, returning the notebook to the girl right away
“Thank you for coming” Pan said. The girl giggled
“Thank you” she turned and ran away to her parents. The pair turned back around continuing their steps
“You sign autographs now?” Goten asked in a teasing tone. Pan elbowed him softly
“Shut up” she protested. He chuckled
“I'm just saying. Looks professional” he went on with the teasing. She rolled her eyes
“Whatever” she said. They looked straight ahead
“You're in the finals, man!” he spoke “that means you had to send at least three good, kick-ass players home early. That's just amazing to me!” he said excited. Pan giggled
“I know. It is exciting” she said with a modest tone“what time did you get back yesterday?” she asked changing the topic. He looked up pensive
“I think it was four o'clock in the morning when we arrived at the San Jose airport” he said. Pan widened her eyes
“That's late, Goten. Cleveland isn't that far” she said. Goten nodded
“I know. Our flight from Cleveland to Salt Lake City got delayed and we missed our connecting flight to San Jose. We had to wait a couple of hours to get on the next available flight to San Jose” he informed. Pan furrowed her brows in doubt
“And who did you come with? Did you bring a girl?” she taunted. Goten chuckled
“Nah. Girls and my career don't go together” he mocked in a playful tone. She punched his arm playfully
“Hush” she requested. He chuckled some more
“I just came with this guy. He and I became really good friends in training camps. His name is Trunks. He's a year older than me, a real nice guy. He too is from Cali. We got our plane tickets together not knowing it was the biggest mistake that of choosing connecting flights-”
“I bet it was. Four o'clock in the morning is ridiculous” she opinioned, signaling right with her hand to where the exit to the parking lot became visible, finally. He sighed
“I know” they turned right “we got in so late he decided to stay over for the night and go back home at some point today. I told him about my cousin that was playing the quarterfinals in the Wimbledon qualifier and he said he wanted to go so he's here” he informed
“I see. Where's your car?” she asked. Goten signaled a silver '05 Chevrolet Corvette. Pan almost choked
“Th-that's your car? Yours-?”
“I know, right? It was a gift from the AC back at Cleveland. I sent it here so I had something to drive” he said. Pan breathed out chuckling
“That's a really nice car, Goten” she complimented. He shrugged his shoulders proudly
“Thanks. I'm leaving it to mom and dad. Gonna go home in Cleveland and buy a big Escalade” he informed. Pan stopped walking shocked, leaving him to walk by himself
“I already know what Escalade I'm buying and everything. The platinum; it has a three forty-five at fifty-two hundred rpm horsepower, leather seats, power seats, navigation system, and that's just the beginning. I'm-Pan. Pan?” he asked turning to look for her. She stood still shaking her head
“You're unbelievable” she said from behind him. He raised a brow puzzled
“What?” he asked
“Hey man. I was looking for you” a young, tall male walked up to Goten. His hair was lavender colored, short to his cheekbones. His eyes were an intriguing attribute of his, the same color as his hair; so bright yet they held much authority within them. His skin was as dark as Goten's probably because of the training camps as well. Nevertheless, it was flawless. His face features held such manly definitions; wide jaw, apparent cheekbones, broad chin, perfect nose, sharp brow arch. His body was amazing. Taller than Goten by only a small couple of inches, there were muscles big enough to show through his plain white v-neck `Hanes' t-shirt. He looked pretty laid back in his white t-shirt and his light blue designer jeans; his black Calvin Klein sports coat was probably the most expensive thing he was wearing and she was sure it was only because the dress code for tennis tournaments was a bit more demanding than any other sport
“Sorry, man. I tried to call your cell but I had no signal in there” Goten responded. Pan eyed the lavender haired boy up and down and up again. He was so well put together, so clean and neat. His voice was alluring. He was so attractive
“That's fine. The lady with the black hair-”
“My mom” Goten identified
“I guess so” the guy admitted “she's looking for you” he informed. Pan shook her head in disappointment
“You didn't introduce him to your mom?” she asked finding it absurd that he had slept under Goten's parents roof for a night and didn't formally know them yet. Both men turned to beautiful Pan
“I was going to introduce him” Goten said in his defense “mom went on and on about the plans for the break and having a guest in our house. I didn't find a chance to do it” he said. Pan rolled her eyes
“Right. Anyway, call grandma. See what she needs” she requested. Goten pulled his cell phone out of the back pocket of his jean
“K. Trunks that's my cousin” he signaled Pan turning away to make the phone call. Trunks stared at her. Her beautiful brown hair was all down; strong, straight tresses that reached her low back. Each strand fell perfectly besides the other. Her face held a natural shine, flawless like nothing he'd seen before. Her body looked perfectly compact in the white cotton skirt and the pink tank top. In honest reality she looked nothing like the tennis player he got to watch play an hour earlier. Her glare held him captive. It wasn't her deep blue eyes; it was the way she stared, like she wanted him yet didn't want to show. Being the self-confident guy he was, he decided to walk up to her and initiate the conversation
“Trunks Briefs, how are you doing?” he introduced himself reaching his hand out to her. Pan smiled shyly
“Pan Son” she said securing their hands together. He smirked at her
“It's nice to meet you” he said. Pan nodded
“Nice to meet you too” she said shaky. He crossed his arms on his chest now
“Congratulations. I watched your match. Not bad at all” he complimented. She blushed hard
“Thank you” she smiled kindly. Gohan walked out to the parking lot
“Pan!” he called out loud. Pan looked to the ground impeccable timing, dad she spoke to herself. Gohan approached her, walking around her and leaning in for a hug
“Great job today sweetie” he said in the hug. Pan half-smiled
“Thanks dad” she replied, her cheeks turning a brighter shade of red. Videl appeared out the parking lot now. She approached the hugging pair
“Good game, honey” she padded Pan's back “how are you feeling? How's your shoulder?” she asked. Gohan and Pan pulled away. She shrugged her shoulders
“Shoulder's fine. I'm kind of tired” she stated
“Are you too tired to come with us?” Goten asked. Pan's attention went to Goten
“Where are you going?” she asked. Goten cleared his throat
“I'm going to drop Trunks off at his place and then go home” he informed. Pan smiled
“I'll go with you” she volunteered turning back to her parents
“Mom, dad, this is Trunks” she introduced them to the speechless boy standing before them. Trunks nod his head in reverence, reaching his hand out to Videl
“Nice to meet you Ms. Son-”
“Oh please! Call me Videl and call him Gohan. We're younger than we look, kid. I promise” Videl quickly replied enticing a giggle from everyone around “so you're going to drop him off with Goten?” she turned to Pan “what time should we expect you to come back?” she asked. Pan looked at Trunks
“Say half an hour?” she asked. Trunks chuckled nervously
“You might want to say an hour… just to be on the safe side…” he suggested shyly. Goten and Pan both snapped
“An hour!?” they asked in unison
“Are you sure?” Goten asked. Trunks turned to him nodding assuredly
“Uh…yeah. Just to be on the safe side” he said shaky. The pair shrugged their shoulders at the same time
“An hour it is then…”

The Trip to Trunk's Place

Goten drove his silver Corvette at a decent speed for a Corvette; ninety-five miles per hour on a sixty five. The sunroof was down. Their hair and clothes moved in sync with the rough wind. It felt amazing the warmth of the sun upon their skin while the fairly cold wind blew wildly in their faces
“What model is it?” Trunks asked referring to the model of the car. Goten thought for a second
“It's the '05 convertible. Has a 400hp LS2 6.0 aluminum block V8 engine, a power top, an active handling system, a six-speed paddle shift with automatic modes, composite body panels; it's a nice car” he said. Trunks nodded impressed
“It's a pretty nice car. I've wanted to get the Z06 for a while now” he said. Goten widened his eyes
“Damn!” he breathed out “that's a real nice car” he said. Trunks nodded
“Yep. Yeah it is” he said. Pan cleared her throat, making it apparent that she was there. Goten looked through the rearview mirror smiling at her bored-out-of-her-mind expression
“Hey Pan” he called “you're gonna be able to buy a Z06 for you, me and six more people when you win that Wimbledon tournament” he said. Pan gave him half a smile
“Sure. Let's not forget I haven't fully qualified yet” she said. Goten shrugged
“I know. It's just a matter of time” he insisted. She rolled her eyes smiling, looking out to the panorama
“How long have you been playing tennis for, Pan?” she heard Trunks speak. Pan looked in front of her
“I've been playing for eight years but real tennis started when I was fourteen” she informed
“How old are you?” he asked
“I'm eighteen” she replied putting her sunglasses on
“Eighteen” he murmured under his breath “so it's been four years since you started the real deal?”
“Yeah” Pan replied “I've been trying to qualify for the Wimbledon for the past four years. With a little bit of luck this will be the last qualifier I will attempt to win AND finally end up winning” she said. Trunks shrugged his shoulders
“You look pretty good to me” he swallowed hard “I-I m-mean y-your legs-speed. The speed of your legs looked good” he stammered blushing
“Thank you” Pan blushed as well. The car became silent. Goten stared at Trunks momentarily. Trunks shook his head with a frame that clearly said `forget about it' recognizing Goten's `waiting-for-an-explanation' expression. Goten scoffed some turning back to the road
“I think we're getting close to your place” he spoke. Trunks nodded
“Yeah. You gotta get off this next exit coming up” he said. Goten furrowed his brows confused
“This next exit? I'm not too sure but I think this next exit is the Capsule Corp exit” he said. Trunks nodded
“Yep. Is there a problem?” he asked. Goten shook his head
“No. Not really. I just, I thought the president of Capsule Corporation made a whole exit for her big-ass mansion” he said. Trunks cleared his throat ashamed
“Yeah. Yeah she did. Still embarrassing; don't remind me” he said. Goten furrowed his brows even more confused
“Wait. You live in Capsule Corp?” he asked. Trunks breathed profoundly
“Long story short, I used my father's last name to play baseball” he confessed. Goten held his breath
“Why in the world would you do that?” he asked
“Yeah. Why change your last name just to play baseball?” Pan joined the conversation. Trunks scoffed
“I-we-it-it's really not that complicated. I didn't want the coaches to pick me because I was Trunks Briefs so I changed my last name to Ouji. They never knew” he admitted
“Ohh” both of them nod at once. Goten took a right on the CC exit. He drove down the long road for a couple of minutes maintaining his speed at ninety-five miles per hour
“This sure is a long road” he commented apprehensive. Why there was still no end to this particular road was clearly beyond him
“I'm with you on that one” Trunks said “I can't understand why make the road so long. It's just a waste of gas” he protested
“How far is your place?” Goten asked. Trunks looked ahead pensive
“It's just a couple more miles. See?” he signaled straight far ahead to where the street dead-ended onto a left “that's the end of the road” he informed. Goten began to slow down
“Alright” he said
“Do you have any siblings?” Pan spoke up. Trunks turned his head sideways
“I have a sister. She's seventeen” he said
“Does she play any sports?” she asked. Trunks chuckled
“Right” he replied as if it was the biggest joke “she does her nails and hair every month, she buys clothes everyday, she runs for ten minutes to lose weight, she hardly eats anything and she has the most unpredictable mood swings you can ever imagine. No. She doesn't play any sports at all” he stated. Pan raised her brows stunned
“Geez. I think I'm pretty close to the complete opposite of your sister” she said. Trunks sighed
“That's a good thing. I couldn't date a girl that was like my sister. It'd complete madness. I deserve a prize just for dealing with her” he said. Goten chuckled
“That's harsh, man. I'm sure it can't be that bad” he said
“Oh but it is” Trunks insisted “I love her but when she's in one of those days I try to stay as far away from her as possible” he said
“Mood swings I'm sure no guy can handle” Goten assured “I don't blame you for not being able to deal with that. Girls are just like that” he added. Pan narrowed her eyes at him
“And what exactly is your point here?” she asked. Goten widened his eyes
“N-nothing. I-I was just making a statement that uh… that um… I don't know. I don't know where I was going with that” he said
“I think what you're trying to say here is that mood swings are characteristic of girls” Trunks stated. A sweat-drop formed at the edge of Goten's forehead
“Nevermind” he murmured. Pan frowned
“What was that?” she asked. Goten looked through his rearview mirror
“Nothing” he said. Pan humphed crossing her arms on her chest, her nose high in the air
“We're almost there” Trunks informed. Goten slowed down some more as they reached the end of the street, taking the mandatory left that the street itself turned into. They came across two big white iron gates. Pan and Goten held their breath, admiring the beauty of the big, beautiful place.
The mansion was palace-like, big enough to fit more than twenty little houses of theirs. The space could fit the biggest CC building ever built along with the big mansion of theirs. Both had fresh cut green grass all around them; some paved sidewalks as well so people could walk through and get to places without having to step on the grass. A river encircled the whole place; reason why there was a bridge for cars to get past it from the entrance. A big fountain stood centered across from the mansion, a paved circle around it for the house cars to park on. Small white park benches were settled sporadically around the place, bringing a nice, park-like environment to the outside of the residence.

Both Pan and Goten felt like they couldn't breathe. Sure, they had seen a couple of houses like this one on TV and magazines; they never imagined the real thing would be impressive enough to overwhelm them.
“Alright. Thanks for the ride man” Trunks cranked the door to the Corvette open. He looked in the backseat for his bag, Pan helping him to pull it out gently
“It was very nice to meet you, Pan” he looked into her eyes one last time. He then walked up to Goten
“Goten” he reached out his hand, the boys performing a manly handshake “appreciate it. We'll hang out later this week” he said. Goten nodded
“Sure” he said. Trunks reached in the front pocket of his coat pulling out what looked like car keys
“I'd invite you in” he pressed a button on his keychain, the gates to the mansion opening backward slowly “but I don't want you to feel unwelcome or anything. I know my mother probably has something planned. Tell your mom I appreciate the hospitality” he said. Goten nodded
“Alright. Take care” he switched the gears in his car to `R'. The pair watched Trunks walk in the house premises, the gates automatically closing behind him
“His house is amazing-”
“Amazing ain't enough to describe it” Goten cut her off. He backed up to his left, switching the gears back on drive and turning right, going through a small street that clearly read `exit.' They were on their way home in no time…

Trunk's House

“Mom, I'm home” Trunks announced loud enough for his mother to hear, yet there was no response. He sighed placing his bag on the floor. Never was the number of times somebody was there to receive him when he came home from baseball camps. He just couldn't understand it. Their flight had delayed, they couldn't find a flight to San Jose until later that night and they arrived at four o'clock in the morning; four thirty was the exact time when they arrived at Goten's parents. There were people that received Goten regardless. His father and his mother, his brother and his brother's wife; they were all there ready to celebrate the big news, time was not a restraint. Yet many restraints kept his family from being there…

His father was obsessed with training; even at his age, he couldn't keep away from it. His mother was a workaholic; a bad habit she picked up as a result of his father's avoidance to her among other people. His sister was a spoiled brat in two very simple words. She was flawed rotten the second she was out of her mother's womb; from the moment she was able to want up until her seventeenth birthday, there was not a thing she wouldn't throw a tantrum about and didn't get. He hated to admit it. He loved his sister to death despite her obvious imperfections and he blamed their parents for turning her into a spoiled unpleasant child; he was convinced she wasn't to blame. It wasn't her fault she never learned that you can't always get what you want unless you work for it. It was a learned development. The more she wanted the more she got, why would you ever want to work hard to get something when you know you'll get it even if you don't? It was a sad but true story.

“Trunks!” he heard high-pitched voice squeal. It was Bra, his sister. She ran down the stairs excited, her arms wide open ready to hug him tight. Trunks smiled at her grunting as she jumped on him
“I missed you so much” she embraced her arms around his neck tightly, swinging each of her legs around his hips. He embraced his arms around her back
“I missed you too” he let his head fall on her shoulder, taking in the aroma of her hair. Nothing could ever smell better than his sister's hair, he was sure. Vanilla bean; sweet, pure vanilla bean. It was invigorating
“Where's mom?” he asked, returning the lean girl back to the floor. Bra shrugged her shoulders fixing her clothes
“She's in a convention, as usual” she replied “how was baseball?” she asked. Trunks smirked proudly
“It was good. I signed a minor league contract to play shortstop for Cleveland” he said. Bra smiled wide
“Good!” she tousled his hair. He overlooked at her figure. Dressed in long solid black PJ pants and a cerulean blue tank top for the top, she could almost pass for woman. Skinny as a model and average in height, her breasts had grown full and her behind was perfectly small to fit her figure. Her stomach was slim and flat and her hair was bright blue, straight and long to her lower back. Her face was a replica of their mother; big bright blue eyes, flawless light skin, ideal female features. Her beauty was unique; it was the one thing he would never forget about her
Girly giggles interrupted his daze
“Who's that?” he asked looking up the big white staircase. Bra looked as well
“It's just Marron and Adrienne. We came back from the mall a couple of hours ago” she stated. Trunks blinked tiredly
“I see” he yawned covering his mouth with the back of his hand “I'm tired” he widened his eyes trying to keep them open “I need to get some sleep. Don't tell mom about the contract. I want to tell her” he informed. She nodded
“Ok. I love you” she said as he walked past her
“I love you too” he replied going up the stairs rather fast…

“Hey Trunks” he heard one of the girls call as he walked by Bra's bedroom, two doors before his own. He stopped at the door resting his shoulder against the doorframe
“Hey-”
“We missed you” Marron spoke in a flirtatious tone cutting his greeting short. He furrowed his brows
“I, uh, I missed you too” he said wearily crossing his arms on his chest. The girls giggled
“You look stronger” Adrienne noted
“I've been training” he scratched one of his eyes gently “so I am thicker” he yawned again. Adrienne smiled
“Well that's good. We wouldn't want you getting any weaker. Then again, you are attractive enough without the muscles. That's not fair for us girls” she said both girls giggling right away. Trunks breathed out
“I'm out” he turned to walk away
“Nighty-night Trunks” Marron said. He rolled his eyes walking towards his room
“He is so hot-”
“I know!” he heard both girls chat in a lower tone yet still high enough for him to hear. He shook his head. All he needed was to go to sleep. He'd be in a better mood once his energy was restored. Of that he was sure…

Chichi's House

The big long table was set; it was only put together when there was a special event that needed to be celebrated such as Goten's contract with Cleveland and Pan's win over Hinuyasha. All of the Son family was there; Chichi, Goku, Raditz, Gohan, Videl, Goten and Pan. A few friends from the family also showed up; Krillin and wife Ms. 18, Yamucha, Puar, Oolong, and 18's brother 17. They were all having a good time under the Son's roof celebrating success with more than a dozen bottles of champagne, red wine, a big dinner and specialty desserts
“I'm gonna make a toast” Chichi began speaking in a louder-than-usual tone, typical of her during alcohol intoxication. Everyone settled down some laughing at Chichi's rare state of mind
“I'm gonna make a toast” she repeated “I want to make a toast to my son, Goten” she signaled with her hand. Goten smiled nodding his head in recognition
“And my granddaughter, Pan” Chichi continued, Pan blushing some at the sound of her name “I will never be able to put in words how proud I am of both of you. You have a gift and you have brought our family something more to be proud of with that gift” everyone on the table applauded
“Goten” Chichi started again as the crowd quieted down “whether you get picked for major leagues right away or not, I am still so very proud of you” she smiled with tears in her eyes “and Pan” she continued “whether you win and qualify or you lose and don't qualify at all, we are all very proud of how far you've come. We love you guys” she let herself cry. Goku stood up with her, embracing his arm around her shoulder
“And now it's time to eat” he announced, everyone going into laughter at Goku's impatience. Dinner was served a couple of minutes later without further due…

After dinner and desserts were done, the adults held their posts at the table to finish up the drinks while the kids retired to keep busy while the adults wrapped up. Pan and Goten lay on their backs by the river nearby their home. The settlement was blossomed with white daisies, usual around summer time. It gave their lands a special, unique scent; fresh in the mornings, soft in the afternoons
“The sky is really clear” Pan noticed. Goten breathed profoundly
“You're right. I can see more stars than usual” he said. Pan bent her arms behind her neck for support
“So you're finally in the minors” she started “how many times have we laid here, pondering about all this?” she said. Goten shook his head looking at her
“I don't know, Panny, but it sure is great what we've achieved since. I'm in the minors, you're one game shy from qualify for the Wimbledon tournament; we've achieved good things” he said. Pan smiled, the moonlight reflecting off her face
“It sends shivers down my spine. I find it hard to believe that I've only wanted this for four years. Feels like I've wanted it for a lifetime” she said. Goten smirked at her
“Easy there, babe. Want it bad enough to fight when you're struggling and not let up when you're not” he said
“I'm scared of what comes after” Pan stated. Goten furrowed his brows
“What do you mean?”
“I mean I'm scared of what comes after you've won it all; after you've proved everybody wrong” she said. Goten looked at the stars pensive
“Hmm. I don't think it should matter” he said “as long as winning keeps being what's important to you, it shouldn't matter at all” he said. Pan smiled to herself
“Right on…”
