The Power of Life
Chapter One

Pan moved stealthily through the shadows around the Capsule Corporation building. If luck was with her Buruma wouldn't have changed any of the entry code passwords. As far as Pan could figure form what she discovered in news articles she'd have had no reason to, and was probably hoping that Pan would possibly be returning and Buruma was the kind of person who'd want her to get into the house in the event of a return.
Pan stalked to the door, checking over the key pad. She quickly punched in the code as she remembered it; on full alert so she could get out of range should the thing not accept the code and go off. To Pan's relief the screen beeped with the words 'Code Approved' flashing across the screen. Pan slid back the do and entered the kitchen.
The room was dark and shadowed with blue light from a night light no doubt left on to cater to the awkward hours and appetites of Buruma's half-saiyajin children. Aria shifted sleeping against Pan's body, moving her face away from the weak light. Pan adjusted the child to best accommodate her weight and gave Miko's hand a firm tug.
"Mawwmmy,"Miko whined looking up at her with large blue eyes, "I'm theepy. Can't you cawwy me two... You cawwied Aryal the whole twime."
Pan squatted down, careful not to jar the sleeping baby. "Miko, honey," she whispered, "Trust Mommy, okay. Only a little while more and you can go to sleep all you want."
Miko looked up at Pan with bright eyes. "Ohkay."
That's my good little boy thought Pan. Miko was always such a trusting soul and loving him as she did she could no longer inflict the pain of her life on him or her young daughter. Arial deserved the best she could get, and Miko deserved to know the rest of his family because they would provide and take care of him in ways that she could not. Being a mother really wasn't the hardest part of her life. Pan adored her children and wanted the best for them. She just couldn't provide it doing what she did. She would be truly upset when they were gone, but at least with the family they would be safe and well provided for. There was no way in all the living hells Trunks wouldn't see to it that his son got the best in everything, and there was no denying that Miko was Trunks' son. He was his father's very image at that age, and it was a wonder no one had ever put together the identity of her son's father. This was another worry, everyday wondering would someone realize that her little boy was the great Trunks Brief's son. Would someone try to steal or hurt her son to get to Trunks? It was madness and Pan could not force her children to endure it anymore. So she was leaving them in good hands.
Pan walked through the large house being careful not to make any sounds. Vejiita had the world's greatest hearing and if he heard anything untoward, assuming he was still awake, she would be in for it. Not just for trying to drop two children off in the middle of the night either. She'd gone away four years ago and she hadn't contacted anyone since she'd left. It was a known fact that a lone fifteen year old girl wouldn't last long on her own, but Pan had gotten somewhat lucky and found a girl willing to share a small apartment so long as Pan pulled in half the rent. So she'd found herself down selling out her body to pull in some money and keep her place because even if it wasn't Capsule Corporation it sure beat the cold streets. And even when she'd begun to show men had wanted her. She'd done it all before she came to the time when it was too dangerous to her baby for anymore and by then she'd earned enough to cover the next few months rent and some decent baby things. Renay had helped. And then after Miko's birth she couldn't abandon him because he was her son and a saiyajin and he couldn't be left alone and no knowing his heritage, but she'd been too afraid and embarrassed to go home. What would her parents say? Barely sixteen with an infant son and, well she had to be honest, a whore. So she'd stayed alone and things had gone fine.
Things were still going fine except that now some patrons wanted her children. And the man who owned the apartment was aiming to get his paws on Miko. Arial was still safe being an infant but Miko was now a prime catch. Pan would die before letting anyone do such things to her son or daughter. So she'd decided it was time to get them away and she was determined to do just that.
She found the way into Trunks' Room. The door was ajar and she could him snoring. He'd been out drinking. Trunks went out drinking a lot and it was a wonder he hadn't come across her whilst she'd been out turning tricks. But he hadn't which was just as well, really. He was sprawled across his bed half naked with one boot still on. The man really had done himself in.
He would never wake up while she was here. That too was just as well.
She woke Arial gently, the way she had when the girl had slept to long and needed her midnight feeding. She was past that now but she was still her mommy's little angel. She looked at pan now with large adoring green eyes. Whose green eyes, Pan regretted not being able to tell. It was any one's guess who'd fathered Aria, but Pan loved her regardless. Arial was a good baby, sweet and eager to learn.
"Arial honey, Mommy's leaving now..." she paused, why would she be leaving them in the middle of the night? "Mommy's gottta work late, but you'll be here with Miko where it's safe."
The baby nodded her head sleepily. She probably didn't understand and was drifting off again. Pan kissed the cubby baby's cheeks and laid her down across Trunks' pillow. He was known where near it and it would be a safe place for Arial.
She then turned to Miko, her adoring young son. He didn't even know that he was in his father's room. He'd never even known he should have had a father. She felt horrible for betraying him like this but she knew in her heart there was no other choice. For h is own safety she had to leave him here. Even if would tear her heart out, her children deserved the best.
"Did you hear Miko. Mommy's gonna work late and you can't come. You'll be safe here. Please don't go wandering around. I need you to take good care of Arial for me. Can you be a big boy and do that for mommy."
"Yeth, mawmmy. Me big boy."
Pan wanted to cry. Yes he was. She hugged him tight resolving not to cry. He would have a better life she just wouldn't be in it. She stood up and was standing there trying to find the strength to walk away when Trunks moved. He mumbled something in his head that sounded like her name.
He wasn't waking. He couldn't be awake. She thought in a panic. God if he found her here. If anybody found her here. It was almost worse than breaking an entering. She glanced around nervously for a hasty exit and landed on the window. She struggled to open it as his mumbling grew more furious. She opened it and a great was of cold air hit her. She climbed through as quickly as she could. Her necklace caught on a nail that had come loose. She tried to undue and in the end only succeeded in breaking the chain. She felt it fall off and slide back.
"Shit!" she cursed as it fell to the ground, but she wasted no time. She had to be gone in case he woke up.
Hopefully Miko would realize it was too cold to leave the window open. But it was too late to worry about that now. She was out of their lives now. Miko had family and Arial would get one even if half of it wasn't really hers.
