The Pride of Saiya-jins
A Saiya-jin Tale
II

Vertigo opened her eyes, immediately regretting the results. Bright lights flashed before her, dancing slightly, as if her head was spinning. A dull pulsing pain was the result of the bright light, right in the front of her forehead, just above her eyes. Her instincts told her to sit up, and in doing so felt a rough, firm grip upon her shoulders push her back down upon the medical bay bed she had been laying upon.

“Stay,” she was ordered by her larger companion, the voice booming over her very soul. Were her senses fooling her? The voice didn't sound as forceful as it once was, as if it were filled with concern. Through this one word, the voice sounded nearly completely different from before. As if a light bulb went on within the young ten year-old mind, her eyes subconsciously opened, looking directly into the cold eyes of a memory, nearly faded along with her planet.

“Koran?” Vertigo barely caught the shadowy figure leaning over her, the hair cut short, strands all fading backward, a frown placed firmly upon his features, and his eyes twitching as the girl spoke his name.

“I didn't think you'd remember me,” the man then replied after a moment of silence. Vertigo flashed back to the day her younger brother was born, the royal guard that followed her everywhere, until the day Frieza had taken over. After that, she never heard from her royal escort. To be the very student of her old Royal Guard made it more of an honor for her, as she smiled, her crimson red eyes softening.

“Good to see you've gotten your sight back,” he then said, as he removed himself from the seat he had taken next to her, running a hand through his hair, as he stared out the window to the stars outside. Vertigo pushed herself to sit up, rubbing her eyes slightly. The pain subsided, however it was still present. “Stop rubbing them.”

Vertigo blinked, looking over to her old Royal Guard, half smiling, as she pulled her legs to her chest, hugging her knees. She rested her chin upon her knees, placing it sideways, as she stared to the back of Koran. The fact that her planet had just blown up hadn't sunk in yet, as if she were in denial. She needed something else to concentrate on, besides the silence that seemed to fill the room suddenly.

“What happened to you?” she asked curiously. She heard him give a sigh, as he lowered his head, then turning to face his princess.

“I was sent off to take over planets the day your father made the treaty with Frieza,” he started out, looking away, as he leaned back against the thick glass. “Since then, I've simply been taking over planet after planet. Not much of a story behind it.”

Vertigo's senses seemed confused with one another, her hearing catching every other word of what the man said. It took her half a second to piece together what he had said, her shoulders slumping slightly as she looked back out toward the window.

“What happened?” she asked suddenly, pulling her vision from the stars, and taking a complete stare upon the wall in front of her. Koran lowered his head, as he turned to face the girl, his arms crossed over his chest. His fists were clenched tightly, his look never reaching to face the princess, as he turned back to the looking glass.

“Frieza happened,” was all he could say, silence then filling both their ears.

“But the entire planet… why?” she whispered, feeling tears building up. She took in a deep breath, laying her forehead on her knees, trying to hide the forbidden tears that could not be held back. Koran studied the stars for a moment, his memory jumping back to when his old friend Bardock had passed them, blinking slightly, as an image popped into his mind. He pulled away from the looking glass, moving himself over to the main computer of the medical bay, bringing up records of the last hour. Sensing the man's movements, Vertigo looked up, wiping the tears with her wrist.

“What are you doing?” she asked, kicking her legs off the bed.

“Bringing up the charts of power readings before we left orbit,” he replied, as three dimensional charts appeared in a holographic form, imitating from the computer. The red planet struck the small ten year old in the heart, knowing good and well it no longer existed. Koran's eyes turned to the small girl, frowning slightly, as he already knew exactly what and how the destruction of their planet occurred.

“Are you sure you want to watch this?” he asked, before pressing the button to continue the simulation. Vertigo's eyes fell upon the man before her, colors finally differentiating themselves from one another, as her sight finally came back to her. She rubbed her eyes one last time, as she looked over toward the 3-D model set before her. After a moment, she nodded her head.

“The first thing I would like to see with my eyes would be how my home planet was eradicated,” she said in a most serious tone of voice, as she awaited the man to continue the screen play. The ex-Royal Guard gave no wait, as he quickly let the scenario play out before them.

The planet pulsed with life, a soft red hue orbiting around it, indicating all the power readings throughout Vegeta-sai. A ship appeared to be in orbit of the planet, holding its own ki flaring around it, different colors indicating just how powerful they were. Red certainly indicated powerful warriors, thus the reasoning for the red aura around planet Vegeta-sai. The spaceship, however, held a slightly darker hue of red, mostly around a certain portion of it.

“Frieza,” Vertigo whispered, shuddering at the power surge she had felt moments before the destruction of her home. A dark red orb started to rise from the planet, most likely a Saiya-jin Warrior.

“Bardock,” Koran blinked, barely noticing slipping his old teammates name. Hundreds of tiny red spots then flew out from the space ship, all heading directly toward the darker red sphere. The darker energy tore through the tiny bright red spots, continuing its journey to, what had appeared to be, Frieza's spaceship. The brighter, not so powerful orbs kept themselves surrounded around the lone Saiya-jin warrior, just as the dark glow that seemed to surround Frieza's spaceship rose on top of it.

“That's Frieza,” Vertigo's fists clenched tightly closed, her teeth grinding against one another.

Suddenly, a flash appeared, blinding the two in the room. As their eyes focused, nothing but the ship, and the dark power riding over it was left, no debris, no bodies, no buildings, no pieces of the planet, nothing at all. Koran's fist planted itself against the console, the image fading from their view. His eyes instantly went to the unreadable look of Vertigo, who still seemed to be staring at an image that no longer existed. She walked slowly toward the window Koran himself had been looking out, standing on her tip toes, as she looked toward where her planet should have been. Though it had been over an hour since their ship sped off, her eyes trailed toward a bright red hue that should have been.

“There's nothing left,” she said, as she landed back onto her feet, turning back toward Koran. Koran tore his gaze from the girl, his mind in conflict.

“We're left, that's what's important,” he stated in an all knowing way. His eyes then trailed over to the computer in front of him, bringing up the main screen. “And we're not the only ones.”

Vertigo blinked her tears away, walking over to the large man. Standing by his side, she looked up to the screen he had before him, curious to what he was doing. Saiya-jin names were then flashed upon the screen, with names of sectors, lists of where they were sent off to, with dates aligned next to that column. The curious ten year old then looked up to the man next to her.

“What's this?” she said in reference to the list. Koran never took his eyes off the screen.

“This is a list of every Saiya-jin child sent out within the last month that hasn't returned.” His eyes then met the Saiya-jin princess, a most serious expression upon his features. “This is all that is left.” Vertigo looked at the screen, a hand reaching her lips.

“There's only four names on this list,” she stated in shock. She looked back to Koran, who looked away with disgust.

“All Saiya-jins were brought back to the planet, by order of Frieza,” he stated, slamming his fist down, shaking the holographic screen before them. “How long were they planning this?!”

“Nexia?” Vertigo read suddenly, looking over to Koran. “Isn't that where we're heading?” Koran pulled himself together, for the sake of his princess, looking to the screen.

“Yes. The gravitational pull on that planet is unbelievable, and King Vegeta himself insisted that I take you there to train. By the time we get there, the planet should be taken over.”

“How long will the trip be?” Vertigo asked, remembering the stories of children sent out at birth to take planets over, and nearly reaching the ages of three to even five before they even gotten to the planet's atmosphere.

“We're well stocked for five years, but the trip will only take four at the most, as long as we don't run into any inconveniences along the way.”

“Your name is Katalina, first daughter to Third Class Saiya-jin Bardock, ranking power level Third Class,” the robotic voice announced through the speakers of the shuttle, just after landing on an uncharted planet. “Your mission is to take over the planet, in the name of King Vegeta, and Lord Frieza.”

The basic breakdown for conquering any planet would be to send a group of Saiya-jins to a planet, wait for a full moon, and let the Ozaruu form of the Saiya-jins take it from there. For planets like Earth who were considered weak and unintelligent form of life they would send their young nearly weeks after they were born, with a full set of instructions on taking over the planet. During the trip to the planet, the basic knowledge of the planet the Saiya-jins could gather would be read, along with basic battle tactics. It could take two to four years to get to a planet, depending upon where it was located. Earth could be a mere two years away, giving some time for the child to adapt to some of the basic knowledge of the planet, as well as procedures on how to take over. Years, the Saiya-jin would gather food and test their rate of survival. After intelligence of the planet had been gathered, the inhabitants of the planet would be eradicated by the monstrous transformation of the Saiya-jin race. The Saiya-jins had conquered many planets like that, though there had been few mishaps. Some would simply die, and not make it through the rigorous training. Others, for instance, might suffer amnesia, and completely forget who they were and what they were sent to do. One planet in particular, however, had already been taken over during a certain youth's trip, making it near impossible for a Third Class Saiya-jin child to take over. Though, with Saiya-jins, anything is possible.

The computer on the screen would flash before the young Saiya-jin child's eyes constantly, giving the information over and over, like a broken record, as it constantly scanned the planet for changes throughout the years of the trip. The gravitational pull within the ship would increase every year, so the child would be able to adapt to the pressure on the uncharted planet, along with the lack of breathable gas, with the planets apparent complete shortage of plant life. Within four years, training will be technically implanted into the young child's mind, along with her male counter part, heading in the complete opposite direction, towards his own planet to control … the planet of Earth.

“Kakarot,” the computerized voice spoke, as the shuttle window opened, leaving the planets air to freely blow against the child's soft skin. With a squint of his eyes, the two year old let out a yawn, and rubbed his eyes. “It is time for…”

The circuitry had been slightly damaged during the crash, something rather rare for a Saiya-jin Space Pod. Having nearly taken off a mountain upon impact, then landing fifty miles away, across a field, and finally coming to a halt in a forest filled area, something along the way could have caused it. The voice skipped slightly, but urged to continue.

“Training schedule should be downloaded…”

Another pause, and the screen went blank. The child's eyes blinked a few times, before letting out a babyish cry, whining to its fullest, and flailing its arms about. The child named Kakarot forced himself from the pod, curious eyes searching about, as his stomach growled for the food that the pod would now be incapable of making. The cries of the child would not go unnoticed, as an old nearly retired Martial Artist walked by on his usual hike through the woods, just a few miles from his house. His hike took him to the very spot that would change his life, as well as the outcome of the planet forever.

Vertigo hovered just barely off the ground, in a fighting stance unique in its own way. With a foot levitated higher above, bent at the knee, raised up to her waist, the other leg back, the form she used was similar to King Vegeta. Though her hands were slightly off placed, as one was placed back in what was called Elbow Positioning, an open palm facing upward, resting at her hip, while the other, closed fist, with index and middle finger sticking up held out on front of her. The mixture of the positioning of hands and feet would be a combination of both her father, and her current mentor, Koran's own fighting style. As her tail lashed behind her, she awaited the oncoming assault that would soon progress through the shadows of the young child's mind.

It was slightly uncommon for the race of Saiya-jins to be practicing this type of simulation fighting, both fighters sitting in a relaxed, meditative position, while placing both their palms together in an attempt to create a mind lock with one another, bringing up a field of battle, along with their own versions of themselves. Currently, Vertigo stood in the blackness of space and time, with no opponent around her in sight.

Without warning, a knee hit the back of the girl's neck, making her stagger a moment, her eyes widening at the snapping sensation that tingled down her entire spine. With little time to react, a fist was already implanted into her abdomen, knocking the non existent air from her lungs. Eyebrows lowering, the girl brought her right arm up in time finally to block the extended leg of her attacker, wrapping that arm around it. With force, her left arm came to swing a punch, but me the palm of Koran, whose fingers wrapped around the girl's much smaller fist, nearly crushing her fingers. Her cheek twitched, as did her eye in pure agony, letting go of the man's leg and bringing her arm back. Gathering herself together, she once again awaited, her tail protectively wrapping itself secure around her waist.

The second exchange of blows was something close to spectacular. With a quick shout, the girl's ki erupted, blue flames circling about her form, as time around her seemed to slow, the figure finally being reviled. In this new state, she quickly pushed herself to her limit, not waiting for the man to attack her, or to catch her off guard. Unexpected her trainer was, as he ducked under the left extended leg of his princess. With a quick gather of ki, the man pushed his right arm out to the girl's now exposed torso, letting loose a purple sphere of energy that merely exploded upon impact. The girl was thrown back, but with another shout, and a throw of both her arms, her ki stopped her in mid air, as she floated upside down, facing her sensei.

Koran gathered up two more balls of energy in each hand, and as he let out a war cry, he leapt from the non existent ground, one fist cocked back, while the other was left in front, both holding twin spheres of pure purple energy. Vertigo waited, and at the last second, Koran brought his cocked fist forward. The girl was swift, and with unbelievable agility, and still upside down, cocked her head to the left, which moved her entire upper body to the side, nearly wrapping herself around the man's arm. Her arms moved to nearly hug his arm, grabbing it at the wrist. Using her ki, her blue aura exploded, as she forced herself upright in means of a flip, which resulted in her throwing her opponent forward. As the spheres dissolved from the man's lack of concentration, Vertigo brought two dark blue spheres of her own, one in each fist, as she combined the two in front of her, pouring more energy into it.

“Ha!!!!” Vertigo yelled, as the energy within her palms exploded into a beam of spiraling blue energy, swirling its way into the chest of her teacher. A dark bluish explosion of smoke erupted, and Koran was thrown back, completely out of existence.

Koran's eyes blinked open, focusing upon his pupil, kneeling before him. In all the amount of time they had been training during their trip, he had only seen few Saiya-jins with the amount of progress the young, now twelve year old girl Vertigo had within two years time. A mind link was sometimes formed for a different style of training. Not only was he training the young princess to become strong physically, but with the lack of space in the confined ship, Koran made sure the girl was strong mentally, having her concentrate and focus upon her ki. Now that she had the ability to sense ki, and see energy without her eyes, he wanted her to work on her own life energy. To be able to raise it, and lower it to hide from Saiya-jin-like scouters.

Running a hand through his black hair, Koran smirked at the girl. He had trained many warriors, many of which died true heroes for their King. None of which, however, had ever progressed in both physical strength, and mental endurance. Not only was this girl most likely going to become the strongest Saiya-jin alive, this Saiya-jin just might be able to take back what Frieza had taken two years ago. Saiya-jin Pride.

“Hey Koran,” Vertigo from her current seat, which was half leaning against the bubble like window she was currently looking out of. Hugging one knee, while the other kept her balance, she never took her eyes from the stars, as she announced her query. “After we gather the rest of the Saiya-jins… then what?”

Koran's attention was shaken from the computer that day, as the question Vertigo would constantly ask was brought up once again. Never shifting his eyes from the computer screen, he spoke the answer he always replied with, his voice slightly more monotone than his first response to the question.

“We're going to destroy Frieza, and all of his kind, as he has done to us,” was the answer he had always given her. Not two seconds later, the young girl's curious tone was there to greet his ears once again.

“But then what?” she asked, slightly more quiet. Koran blinked a moment, shifting his eyes toward the frail form leaning against the glass. It was amazing how a child's mind worked, no matter the species. Though naïve, their minds worked in ways an average aged adult would never be able to comprehend. And with the most obvious question of `what happens next' set before him, Koran sat in his chair, sitting in front of the holographic computer screen with charts of planets in their sector that would suit fine for landing, he found himself unable to come up with a true answer.

“I do not know, my princess,” he replied, as his eyes moved back to the screen before him. “We will know what to do when the time comes.”

A ship crashed against the desert flooring of the planet, lifting sand hills like an ocean wave. Heat was the first thing to greet the now four year old Saiya-jin's skin. Even with being locked inside of a space pod for nearly four years, the child's muscles never showed weakness, as it pushed itself from the padded seat it had been laying upon since near birth. With the door to the pod lifted fully, the Saiya-jin female pushed herself through, a hand raised to protect her straining eyes from the intense sunlight. Her tail never swayed, as she stood fully, looking around the course of the planet. Nothing but sand in all directions, as her head turned fully around. No form of life in any direction.

A soft wind would pick up, brushing her hair into her face. With a hand, she pushed a few strands aside, looking out into the distance. Saiya-jin eyes winced against the distance, though the small image of something started to pick up, quite possibly a structure of some sort. Looking over her shoulder, she moved back toward the ship, leaning her head in. With the push of a button, a compartment opened up with an attire fit for a child Saiya-jin, along with training gear, Saiya-jin armor, and a scouter. With another look toward the barely noticeable structure, she headed toward it with the mission that had been replaying itself in her mind for the past four years … take over the planet in the name of Lord Frieza, and King Vegeta.

Author's Notes: This story is getting harder and harder to write… I don't know why, really. Luckily, however, the next chapter should be a breeze… it was just getting, I think, to this point that was the most difficult. Hopefully, I'll have another chapter up soon, so keep checking in, and don't forget to review.
