Chapter Fourteen

Amara gazed out of the window. She could see the town square below. People were still standing near the large platform, though the speaker was long gone. They seemed to be mesmerized by his words. Amara had gone to one of his speeches and listened. She didn't think he sounded so great. All he did the whole time was tell the people of Vegeta-sei how much effort he was putting in finding the King's murderer, which was probably a lie because it had been days and he hadn't come up with anything new. Then he told the people that he would do his best to rebuild Vegeta-sei's social structure and that they should forget the revolution and start anew.

"Amara? You've been staring out of the window for a while now. Are you all right?"

Amara blinked and turned to Chi Chi. "Look at them out there. When Malem first arrived they were drawn to him like flies. Now he is gone and they still linger in his after scent."

"Wow," Bardock said. "What's got you so upset?"

She glanced at him. "Malem had the nerve to list my father as a suspect."

"He said there were witnesses who saw Cole around the King's quarters," Bardock said.

"If that's true then why aren't the witnesses' names on the suspect list? I saw the people who claimed to have seen my father and I didn't hear them named as a suspect. If they saw my father, they would have been in the same area."

Bardock shook his head. "Just stop it, Amara. You're upsetting yourself over something you can't control. None of this makes sense."

"Do you believe Malem is doing his job correctly?"

"I don't believe a damn thing he says. Anyone who has any brains wouldn't believe Malem. But what can I do about it?"

Amara pushed away from the wall. "Well, I for one can't sit here and do nothing." She started for the door.

"Where are you going?" Chi Chi asked.

Amara let out an exasperated sigh. "I don't know. Somewhere."

She stepped out into the hall and closed the door behind her. She turned to walk away from the room, but a guard by the name of Cabell was standing in her way.

"Excuse me, Amara," he said. "Malem has requested to see you."

"Malem?" She smirked. "So, Cabell, you were reduced to a messenger boy?"

He frowned, slightly. "I'll take you to him. Please come along."

Amara followed him. When did Malem get his own servants? she wondered.

"Did you attend Malem's speech today?"

He nodded. "Yes, it was very empowering."

Amara raised an eyebrow. "Oh, I bet it was."

He gave her a strange look, but continued walking.

"So, you really saw my father near the King's quarters?" she asked, suddenly.

"Yes," he replied. "I was just passing by."

"On your way where?"

He frowned. "I'm not obligated to answer any of your questions, Amara. Sorry."

She smirked. "I find it quite interesting that you answered every question up the last one."

Cabell led her down a flight of stairs and down a hallway. He stopped at a door and knocked twice.

"Sir, I've brought Amara to you," he said.

"Very well, bring her in."

Cabell opened the door and pushed it flush against the wall. He ushered Amara into the room with a sweep of his hands. She shot him a look, but walked into the room. Cabell shut the door behind her.

"Amara, good evening," Malem said.

She looked at him. He was sitting on the edge of the bed. He was wearing a pair of pants, but his chest was unclothed. All the lights were off except for one set.

She nodded in reply.

"How are you doing?"

"Fine," she said, crossing her arms over her chest. "I'm sure you didn't call me down here for small talk."

His smiled widened. "Yes, you're right." He went to a small table in the room and opened a liquor bottle. He poured the liquid into two glasses. "Won't you have a drink?"

Amara blinked. This man is trying to seduce me, she thought. The nerve of that little… She paused as another thought crossed her mind. Maybe if I play along, I'll get him to tell me everything I want to know. I'm sure he knows very well who the killer is.

"Yes," she said, walking deeper into the room. "I would love a drink. Thank you."

He looked surprised and then grinned. He lifted the glass and held it out to her. She approached him and took the glass from his hands. She lifted it to her lips and sipped the fiery liquid.

He downed his entire glass immediately and set it down on the table again. He began to pour himself another drink.

He's already very intoxicated, Amara observed. She sat down on the couch and pretended to drink the alcohol.

He had another drink and set the glass down for good. He made his way over to Amara and sat beside her. She met his eyes and he took the glass from his hands.

"Amara?"

"Hmm?"

"You're very beautiful," he purred into her ear.

She gasped. Her skin crawled at the sight of this very man and now he was nearly touching her. And the smell of alcohol on his breath was nauseating.

She managed to smile. "And you're very handsome."

His tongue flicked out along her neck and she gasped again.

He laughed. "Why so jumpy? You're not afraid of me, are you?"

"No."

"You're not afraid…" He moved his mouth to her collarbone and licked it. "…to make love to me?"

Her eyes widened. "Malem, I…"

"Shh. Don't talk."

He sucked the flesh of the swell of her breast into his mouth and bit down gently on it. She cried out and pushed his head away. He looked up at her and frowned, sharply.

"I…I was just thinking what a wonderful person you are, Malem."

"If I'm so wonderful then let me…"

"The way you took charge and are so determined to find the killer," she interrupted.

Malem cocked his head to the side and studied her. His lips curved into a smile and then he laughed. He grabbed her shoulders and pulled her close to him. He wrapped his arms around her waist and plunged his nose into her hair.

"You smell so nice…"

She inhaled. "Do you have any leads on the killer?"

He laughed again. "Of course I do. Don't be a fool."

"Really?"

"I know who the killer is and I know why the King was killed," he said.

"Share your secrets with me," Amara said, drawing away a little and sliding her finger along the slope of his jaw. "Share all of you with me."

"And you will share all of yourself with me?" he asked.

She bit her lip and nodded.

"The revolution," he said. "It all started with the revolution." He lifted her up and laid her down on the couch. "The people were fed up with the King's rule. They needed someone to come along and promise them something better and fulfill the promises. And someone did come along."

Amara placed her hands on his shoulders and sat up a little. "Who was the person?"

"The plan was for the people to start a revolt," he continued. "There was prior knowledge that Frieza was coming for the Prince. Oh yes, some knew long before the revolution started. So the Prince would be out of the picture, but that left the King. He had to be done away with. So if someone were to kill him, in the midst of the revolution, while the Prince was away, the people would be convinced that it was for the better. Otherwise, it would not have been tolerated."

He pushed Amara down again and lifted the end of her shirt. He ran his fingers over her toned stomach. She placed her hand over his.

He smiled. "And then this person would step up and take charge. Thus, fulfilling his promises to the people. Then he would become King and be triumphant. And if the Prince tried to come back and take over, this person would convince the people that life would go back to the way it was under King Vegeta's rule. And the Prince would be killed as well."

"That's a pretty elaborate plan," Amara said. "So that's why you killed the King."

He blinked. "Yes, Amara, that's why." He chuckled. "And also so that I could get rid of your father and have you. You are mine and I will be your mate. You will bear my children and be my queen."

"You're insane if you think I would want you," she said. "And you're not going to get away with this. Now I know everything."

He tried his best to concentrate through the alcohol and strong sexual desire that coursed through his body.

"On the contrary, love," he said. "I will get away with this and have you for myself. Your father will be executed for the crime and I'll kill him myself!" He threw back his head and laughed.

Amara punched him in the stomach and all the air rushed out from his lungs. He drew in a shaky breath after a moment and glared down at Amara. He sat up and shoved her off of the couch. She hit the floor and cried out. The small table was knocked over and the liquor bottle rolled onto the floor.

She moved to see the door. She was so far away from it now. He slid off of the couch and grabbed her face, roughly.

"You wench!" he spat and then smirked. "Would you like to know how I did it? How I killed the King?"

She tried to turn away from him, but he bent her neck at a painful angle and she cried out and squeezed her eyes shut.

"He was depressed about the wreck of a kingdom he had left and also about Frieza taking his son away. He had retired to his quarters for the night, so I dropped in to pay him a visit. And take him out of his misery, so to say." He smirked. "I poured him a drink from the bottle that was already sitting on a table in the room. I had placed it there earlier that day and the liquor was laced with the poison. Like the fool he was, he drank." Malem licked his lips. "I watched his face go pale; he clutched one hand to his chest and grunted in pain. He slipped to his knees and dropped the glass. He looked up at me and beckoned me to get help. I told him I would and fled from the room, making sure to take the bottle with me and replace it with an old one." He laughed.

He loosened his grip on Amara. "When I found him, he said he didn't know who poisoned him."

"He didn't," Malem said. "The poison confused all of his thoughts. I almost feel sorry for him…almost. But I'll be a better King than he ever was."

Amara grabbed the liquor bottle and struck Malem over the head with it. He screamed and released her. She crawled away from him and got to her feet.

His hand came away with blood and he looked at her with rage-filled eyes. "You bitch!"

He came at her and she couldn't keep up with his speed. He slammed her into a wall and she screamed. He shoved her into the wall a few more times and then let her slide to the floor. He moved beside her and ripped her shirt, exposing her bra.

She screamed louder and put her hands on his face, trying to shove him away. He growled and swatted her hands away.

"Someone help me! Help!" Amara shouted.

He slapped her across the face and she fell silent. Her lip quivered and she looked up at him in fear.

He had begun to unbutton his pants when the bedroom door was flung open. Cole and Bardock ran inside the room first.

"Get away from her, Malem," Bardock ordered.

Malem looked up at him.

"Now."

"Malem, you son of a bitch, I'll kill you!" Cole shouted, trying to get to him.

A few more soldiers came in and held Cole back. Others apprehended Malem.

"I heard the whole thing," Bardock said. "I went the way Amara had gone after I heard your guard tell her you wanted to see her. I knew something was up. When I had listened to a little of what was going on I went to get help and now I come back to this."

"You have no proof," Malem said.

Bardock held up a recorder. "Oh, but I do. I thought I should bring this along." He smiled. "Take him away and lock him up. The Prince was not been contacted, I will do so."

The soldiers dragged Malem out of the room, while he screamed obscenities at Bardock.

Bardock went over to Amara and knelt beside her. The soldiers let go of Cole and he joined him.

"Amara?" Bardock asked.

She looked up at him with a dazed look on her face. "Radditz?"

"No, it's me, Bardock."

"Bardock?"

"Amara, it's all right honey, I'm here," Cole said.

She turned her head slowly to him. "Daddy?" Unshed tears glittered in her eyes. "Daddy!"

He took her in his arms and held her. "Oh, Amara. Don't you ever do anything that reckless again. He could have killed you or worse. You knew, you knew something was up. You should have told me."

"I'm sorry," she cried. "I'm so sorry. I wanted to unmask him myself."

"I know," he said, nearly crying along with her. "Don't worry about it." He stroked her hair, soothingly.

"Amara," Bardock said. "Thank you. You really helped us a lot. Now we finally have enough to do away with him."

She turned and looked at him.

"We owe you big time," Bardock continued. "Is there anything you want? I'll get it for you. You've earned it."

She nodded. "There is something I want."

"Yes?"

"I want Radditz."

Bardock's eyes widened and then he smiled. "I'm going to contact their ship ASAP. I'm sure Frieza will let Vegeta and the others return here because our planet needs a King."

Cole placed his jacket around Amara's shoulders to hide what was underneath her tattered shirt. "Come on, let's get you out of here, Amara."

A/N: Celestial Princess: Wow. That was a pretty heavy chapter, if I must say so myself. That rat, Malem, thought he could get away with all of that?! Not in my fic, Buddy! Mwah haha!

Vegeta: (sigh) Sometimes I wonder about your sanity.

Celestial Princess: Really? I've been getting that a lot lately.

Vegeta: That wasn't a compliment!

Celestial Princess: (shrugs) I can't wait until they contact you and tell you what happened. And it also seems that you and the other's on Frieza's ship have some plans of your own to execute.

Vegeta: Do I get to kill that lizard?

Celestial Princess: In due time! Jeez! What? Are you trying to end the story all ready?

Vegeta: Maybe.

Celestial Princess: NO way! There's much more to come! I hope you all come back for chapter 15! Later! And don't forget to leave a review. We love to read those don't we, Veggie-Chan!
