The Rise of a King

Summery: In a twist of fate, Brolly is sent to Earth after a doctor locked most of his power away in the hope that he would escape King Vegeta's wrath. Both he and Kakarot sustain amnesia and Gohan raised them both as brothers. “Gukotsu” has always been more powerful than Goku. When Bulma enters their lives, she whisks Gukotsu away as her bodyguard leaving Goku to `guard the mountain.'

Goku catches the attention of the real Demon King, Verkou, who chooses Goku as his heir. While his brother has adventures with his newfound friends and enemies, Goku learns to fight to protect his future subjects. Will Goku ever become more powerful than his brother or will he just accept his own fate of being the leader and protector of an adventurous world?

Prologue: Gohan Meets the Evil Monkeys

 

It was a beautiful early summer morning on Mt. Paotzu and the resident mountain man, Son Gohan was off on a walk towards civilization (a village with ten people) when he heard a strange growling and scuffling sound. Thinking it was an animal he froze until he heard the growl drown into the sound of a child crying out in pain.

 

Concerned about the sound Gohan passed a bush and paused when he saw the strangest and yet oddly most normal looking scene. Two baby boys were on the forest floor and both had black hair, black eyes, and furry brown tails. One of the babies was pulling on the other's hair and tail and was not letting go.

 

“Now stop that,” Gohan said, but the boy ignored him. Gohan pulled the aggressive baby away from the other and was dumfounded when the injured baby glared at him, “I think I'll take you two in my care until I can figure out where you belong.”

 

The aggressive baby bit Gohan's hand and the elderly man winced, “I think I'll call you Gukotsu. And you, little guy, can be Goku.”

 

Little Goku glared as Gohan lifted him up and like `Gukotsu' he bit down on Gohan's other hand. “Aggressive little guys aren't you? I wonder where you two boys came from. You couldn't have dropped from the sky, right?”

 

-Three Months Earlier-

 

Brolly's infant mind couldn't quite grasp the details that where going on around him. All he knew was he wasn't near his mother and a very loud noise was causing him pain. So he did what most babies did when they were in pain, he began to cry.

 

An eternity (in his own mind anyway) later he was pulled from his crib in was held in the arms of a person he instinctively knew was his mother. She whispered something unintelligible in his ear and he felt himself relax. Someone poked him with something sharp and he felt his energy drain before he became unconscious.

 

“Now what will we do Calie?” the doctor asked as he pulled the KSL (ki suppresser liquid) Needle out of the infant's leg. KSL was supposed to be used only for dangerous criminals with a high power level because the liquid pulled a person's power level down to less than 1/50th of their original power. It was illegal to use it on children because it sealed away their potential.

 

“Now he can go off world with another baby as I find him a new identity.”

 

“Kakarot is leaving in an hour. We could send your son with him. Who knows, in the future they might be partners.”

 

“Let's hurry. The king's men could arrive at any moment and we need the replacement put in Brolly's crib.”

 

Brolly stayed asleep for a long, long time and when he finally woke up a person was sleeping next to his own body. He recognized the hairstyle as the thing that gave him pain so he reached over and yanked it. The other baby woke up and was about to cry again when their enclosed crib dropped suddenly and quickly.

 

-Present Time-

 

The two months following Gohan's discovery in the woods were possibly the worst in the old martial artist's life. It was hard to tell which baby had the worst disposition. Goku smashed everything he touched, constantly bit him, kicked him, pulled his moustache and just could not be pacified. Gukotsu seemed to be determined to kill Goku and was constantly throwing sharp objects at his `brother' and pulled his tail many times. They were both extremely strong for their size and Gohan had constant bruises forming from their well-placed punches, kicks and bites.

 

One morning Goku once again tried to run away with Gukotsu hot on his tail. It seemed Goku wanted to be killed out in the woods or he'd be torn limb from limb by Gukotsu. Something happened though that would change both boys forever.

 

Gukotsu finally got tired of chasing so he tackled Goku from behind causing both of them to fall over the edge of a deep ravine with lots of big sharp rocks at the bottom. Expecting the worst Gohan went down to find them and though they both had deep gashes on their heads they were both amazingly alive!

 

When the two woke up after a week of unconsciousness, they had changed. Goku now had a less violent temperament and took care of the things Gohan gave him and Bukotsu spent his time protecting his `little' brother because he was stronger. They became very close siblings, doing everything together. They fished and they hunted and both lived out enjoyable lives. The Son brothers were both naive of the world outside the mountain but learned what they could from their beloved grandfather.

 

As they grew older it became obviously apparent that they had separate personalities. Goku was serious when he fought but was otherwise laid back while Gukotsu was mostly serious and contimplaitive while relaxed during a fight.

 

The Son brothers would one day discover many adventures away from their home on Mt. Paotzu.
