After he had his breakfast, he decided to head towards the main hall. He wanted to see Vegeta -just to have a quick look at him before he went off to meet with Gallaur. He had felt guilty that he had been grouchy that morning. Kakarott really didn't know what had come over him. Vegeta had still kept his distance, and his aloofness had angered Ka. Where were their heated morning rituals? Why was Ka forced to wake on his own? Why was the prince being so cold to him? Kakarott's bottom lip quivered as he immersed himself in self-pity.

On his way to the main hall, he spotted a trio of Saiyan warriors. He recognized the three of them as the ones from the eating hall who had given him his first taste of buima. It was odd, but they had scars on them that Ka hadn't noticed before.

They must have injured themselves during training or a recent battle, he thought. How exciting!

"Hey guys!" he smiled and waved at them. Maybe they would tell him all about it.

Nache, Taglen, and Nomel saw him and froze in their tracks. Kakarott started towards them but stopped when they hurried away.

Why don't they want to talk to me?

He slumped his shoulders and sighed in despair. It seemed as if everyone was avoiding him. Vegeta's lack of interest in him hurt the most. Again, he wondered what he had done to make the prince treat him so coldly.

Kakarott's errant thoughts dominated his mind so much that he soon found himself before the entranceway of the great hall. Normally, no one was allowed into the main hall, not unless they had a meeting with the king or were his guards. Ka snuck into the room and hid behind one of the thick crimson colored curtains that hung from the ceiling. The heavy material hid the many rooms that were located there. The rooms were for the King and his closest confidants. They were the King's day rooms. Kakarott had spent time in one of them once, the day when the King had given him to the prince.

He had been anxious, not knowing what to expect. He had only been told that he was there for one purpose -to please the prince. The King had given him a rough description of what was required of him and yet Kakarott still had not understood. He had made the King impatient with his confusion, prompting the noble Saiyan to tell him, "The prince will explain it to you."

The prince had not explained anything to him, but Kakarott had quickly learned what his duty to the prince entailed. It was hard for him to imagine his life before he became a concubine. It was all that he knew now and even that was beginning to fall apart.

He clutched the heavy fabric of the curtain in his fists and went absolutely still as he saw him. He was standing next to his father. His arms crossed, a look of dissatisfaction on his face. He was clearly angry. He was wearing his cape, the symbol of his status affixed to his armor. Yes, the prince was regally dressed, but he also seemed regally pissed.

A guard walked past Kakarott and paused briefly. He sniffed the air. Ka pulled away from the curtain and leaned back against the wall. He heard the guard's footsteps recede as he moved along. Ka sighed in relief and returned to gazing at the prince.

The guard that had stopped before him bowed to the King and Vegeta.

"What is it Nappa?" King Vegeta asked.

"Sire, we just got word that an unidentified ship is approaching."

"Its King Cold's envoy," the king said. "It's about time."

King Cold? Who is that?

"Father," Vegeta spoke, "you still have a chance to refuse them."

"Don't be a nuisance. I don't want to hear about your doubts any more. Now be on your best behavior, brat."

Kakarott couldn't believe that the king was talking to Vegeta that way. He could see the rage that was hidden just beneath the surface of the prince's expressionless face. Ka wanted to go to him, but he couldn't reveal his presence. He would be in big trouble if he did. Besides, he had to meet with Gallaur. Maybe he would know about King Cold. He knew everything. He had been a commander once and understood things more than Kakarott ever could. Maybe he could tell him why King Vegeta was so set on doing business with this King Cold.

King Cold's representative had arrived and with an entourage that totaled over five hundred servants and guards. Such a large group for what was supposed to be a small, private gathering to handle negotiations. At the head of the massive entourage was a short, pale-skinned creature that was nestled within the exoskeleton of a hovering vehicle. The being's conveyance gave the impression that the alien could not get about on its own, but the alien's posture and facial expression belied that notion.

Vegeta studied the foreigners with disdain. He did not trust them, especially the sickly colored lizard in the floating chair. The thing was eyeing him, his dark colored lips lifting into a chilling smile. Vegeta narrowed his gaze at him. The alien unsettled him.

To the lizard's right was a tall, blue-skinned being with long green hair. He looked almost feminine with his long lashes, pastel colored tights, gloves and jewelry.

The prince figured that he must be an advisor of some sort. Perhaps even a servant. He didn't look like a guard, and was definitely not a warrior, not with his pristine looks. The overly handsome alien quickly made introductions. His master, the sickly lizard was named Prince Frieza. He was King Cold's heir and representative. The tall alien was named Zarbon. No position that Zarbon served was given. Vegeta wondered at this deliberate exclusion of his status.

One of his father's advisors made introductions in turn but the lizard's odd grating voice interrupted him before he could finish.

"What a pretty little monkey," Frieza said and swished his long, fleshy tail.

Vegeta clenched his teeth at the alien's audacity. King Vegeta stepped forward and said, "This is my son, prince Vegeta."

"Yes, I see the resemblance," Frieza grinned.

Vegeta hated him instantly. If this was what they had to put up with, then Vegetasia was doomed indeed, because Vegeta would not bow down to this creature.

The King, sensing his son's rising temper, took the opportunity to welcome Prince Frieza and his entourage to Vegetasia.

"I thank you for your hospitality, King Vegeta. For a moment, I thought that my presence here was not welcomed." He spoke to the King but looked at the prince.

"Nonsense," King Vegeta told him. "The Saiyans know how important an alliance between our two peoples is, isn't that right son?"

Vegeta made a vague grunt, adding more tension.

Frieza chuckled and snapped his fingers. His servants came forward as they moved a large device perched on top of a flatter hover vehicle.

"A gift from my father to you, King Vegeta," Frieza said. "The first of many to come."

King Vegeta took in the contraption and asked, "What is it? What does it do, prince Frieza?"

Frieza explained to him the device's purpose.

"A machine that makes babies?" Vegeta inquired in disbelief.

"It does not make anything, prince Vegeta. It merely helps really, in the process of reproduction," Frieza corrected him. "It regenerates cells, constructs what is missing. In this case, it would be a cell from a missing counterpart. My people have been using this technology for years."

"Your female population is in jeopardy as well?"

"We do not have a female population at all, prince Vegeta. It was wiped out eons ago. You Saiyans are faced with the same problem, are you not?"

Vegeta thought it unwise of his father to have released such knowledge about their race to the aliens. Their gift, as extraordinary as Frieza claimed it to be could just as well be a weapon in disguise -a means of destroying the rest of their people by diluting their Saiyan characteristics, their strength. Vegeta was about to give voice to this theory when his father asked Frieza to join them for dinner.

"Zarbon and I would be delighted," Frieza gave another one of his perverse smiles.

Vegeta was repulsed.

Great! Now I must have dinner with the lizard and his underling. Ugh! Just looking at him makes me sick!

He suddenly wished that Kakarott was there to lighten his mood. At least then, he would have something else to look at and his mind would be on other things, like bedding Kakarott. He was starting to think that the punishment had gone on long enough. There was no point in letting himself suffer. Surely, Kakarott had learned his lesson, and if he didn't there was other ways of punishing his young and curious concubine.

"You stink, Kakarott," Gallaur announced after another training session with the prince's companion.

Ka smelled his underarm and wrinkled his nose. "Whew! You're right. That was quite a work out."

"Not that kind of stink." Gallaur saw that he didn't understand and explained to him.

"Is it that bad?" Ka asked him.

Gallaur nodded. "It could get you in trouble with the brat. Stay away from his guards if you can. One whiff of you and its over."

"I don't…see how it could bring me trouble."

"You're really dense." He jabbed at Kakarott's temple with a calloused finger. "It's happening because the prince is neglecting you. It has to do with a Saiyan's body chemistry and mood. I saw his marks on your neck. He bit you. You know what that means don't you?"

Kakarott stared blankly at him.

The old Saiyan muttered a curse. "It looks like its going to be a long day."

Short, sparse even, but necessary to the plot. I'm just kidding. I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Kidding again. Next chapter will be out sooner than you think. I promise. I'm kidding! Haaaaaaaaaahahahahahaa! ^___^
