The Vampyre Chronicles
Bulma was sitting restlessly in her office late at night. For some reason she couldn't figure out these schematics, and refused to leave for sleep before she was done. A night owl by nature, Bulma decided to don a coat and walked outside for a little midnight stroll.
There weren't many people up at this hour, or at least not the kind the heiress would normallly associate with. She stopped into a 24 hour convenience store, and purchased a bottle of water to sip as she meandered casually in the safe streets of Western Capital. There weren't many funny types in the part of town that Capsule Corp. was situated, due to the high security that was around 24/7. Bulma walked on for awhile, and when she wandered back into her high-class neighboorhood, she saw a person observing an empty villa atop a hill at the end of the road. Intrigued, Bulma walked on to talk to this stranger. She walked closer and realized that it was a man.
"Um…hello?" Bulma asked, leaning forward slightly.
"Oh, yes," the blonde-haired man turned around.
"Oh!" Bulma gasped, this guy was gorgeous. He had a spiky shock of bright-blonde hair that stood straight up. He had deep, teal eyes and if you tilted your head just right, it looked like he lacked a pupil too. Not to mention that his perfect-pale skin glowed with an ethereal sheen, but Bulma dismissed the weird glow to the strange lighting of the street lamps.
"I'm Bulma," she offered her hand after a moment of staring. The man smiled.
"I'm Kakarot…but most people call me Goku." It seemed as though he added that last part with what seemed to be a wistful smile.
"Well…um…Kakarot, or Goku," Bulma began.
"You can call me Goku," he smiled gently.
"Yeah, Goku, what are you doing in these parts?"
"I've been looking for some permanent housing in these parts, and I heard these houses were rather impressive, so I came to see them for myself." Goku replied.
"At three in the morning?"
"You could say the same for yourself," Goku chided with a sligt smile.
"All right, point taken." Bulma chuckled lightly. "And what attracted you to our houses in the first place?"
"My brother is a high class person, when he heard of this extremely sophisticated neighborhood, he insisted that we try to secure some housing."
"Ah..well, when you do see your brother, tell him he has very good taste." Bulma yawned. "Sorry. Guess I've been out longer than I thought. I'd better get home." She waved towards the huge domed mansion that was the Capsule. Corp. headquarters.
"You live in Capsule Corp.?" Goku asked, his eyes widening slightly.
"Yeah, you could say that. I'm Bulma…Briefs?" she questioned with a small shake of the head.
"Oh, you're the heiress I hear so much about."
"I guess a lot gets said about me," she shrugged. "Bye now, when you do move in, don't hesitate to stop by for a visit. Or my mom will."

A few days later, a moving van pulled up, and a bunch of drivers and workers unloaded furniture into the villa. The two most surprising items were these long, rectangular boxes. Bulma had taken off of work for a few hours to observe the comings and goings of the workers, but to her surprise, and disappointment, the owners never arrived.
"Yeah, uh, sorry, ma'am," some guy said, looking more at her chest then her face, "we got some call to deliver this stuff to the house. We gots no idea where the owners are."
"Oh, well, thank you." Bulma answered, and turned back on her heel and walked straight home. But late at night, when she went out for another midnight stroll, the lights were on, and you could hear the faint murmuring of chatter emerging from the house. Being naturally inquisitive, Bulma set out to discover what the disturbance was. She walked over to the house just in time to see a man, that looked almost exactly like Goku walked out, his long leather jacket flaring out behind him.
Upon closer examination, she saw that this was not Goku, it was someone else, a brother, or first cousin perhaps. He was much shorter than Goku, but with his thick, spiky locks (even spikier than Goku's) that stood upright, he gave the illusion that he was much taller. He had the same pale skin, and that same glow, and the same gorgeous teal eyes. But it was the look in his eyes, not so much his build that really set him apart from Goku. Goku's eyes were fun and carefree, holding so much emotion, this man's eyes were hardened, as if he had to bear a lot more harshness and brutality, but behind those carefully guarded walls, emotion flickered like a never-ending fire. His turquoise eyes met Bulma's clear blue ones sharply, and she held his gaze, until she finally looked away, unable to stand the hard, piercing, accusing stare etched eternally into his face.
"Um…is Goku around?" she asked softly after a while.
"Kakarot is inside the house," he pointed at the door, and continued down the sidewalk that led to downtown.
"Hi Bulma!" Goku's greeted cheerfully as he stepped out the house, but his eyes darted around nervously. "I'm uh…kinda busy right now."
"That's okay," Bulma smiled. "How have you been? I didn't see you guys when the moving van came a few days ago, can I come in?"
"Uh-no," Goku said shortly. "Sorry, I'm kinda busy. I have to…um…catch up with my brother. He's uh…yeah….gone."
"He went downtown," Bulma supplied.
"Oh did he? Thanks." Goku started to head down the same way his brother did.
"Oh, Goku!" Bulma called out. Goku turned around. "What's your brother's name?"
"Vegeta," Goku yelled back, and then disappeared into the shadows.
"Vegeta…huh?" Bulma murmured. "Sure is the bastard," she walked back off in the direction of her house.

"Where the hell have you been, Kakarot?" came a sneering voice in the shadow of a huge oak tree at the entrance to the park. "We're supposed to be gone by now."
"Sorry, brother," Goku apologized as Vegeta stepped out of the shadows. "I had some business to attend to."
"That female?" Vegeta asked condescendingly. "May I remind you that one of the undead laying with a mortal is practically forbidden?" (in my outlook on vampyres it is).
"Who said anything about that?" Goku spot back, slightly hurt. "Glad to see you decided to wait for me though,"
"Ach," Vegeta smirked. "I just figured I try out this human word…generosity after all."
"Nice to hear it, brother," Kakarot answered in a light tone, signifying the end of the conversation. "I'm a little too hungry to continue chatting tonight. Shall we proceed?"
"After you, Kakarot," Vegeta answered in a sarcastic tone, purposely walking in front of his younger sibling. Goku chuckled but followed his lead as they walked swiftly into the night.

Bulma stretched and leaned over her personal balcony. Calling in to her father and telling him that she would probably be a couple of hours late had definitely been the right thing to do. Insomnia had caughten up to her lately, and she really needed a break, and for some reason she was only able to sleep during the day. She caught up on work while the rest of the house was silent, and went to sleep just as the early risers were awaking. She smiled as the late morning sun beat down on her shoulders, highlighting her aqua locks, making her blue eyes twinkle with delight.
"I wonder where Goku is? Is he awake?…does he have job?" Bulma thought aloud. "Maybe I should head on over, you know…be the welcoming thing to do." For some reason beyond her, she couldn't stop thinking about the mysterious man. If there was anything that thrilled her, it was challenge, and this was definitely one of the biggest psychological challenges that she had ever faced. Just trying to puzzle out warm-hearted Goku was tough enough, let alone is complex-to-no-end brother.
Bunny Briefs was a kindred soul, and when she heard neighbors moved into their affluent neighborhood, she insisted that her and her gardening club (Wild Orchids) go and visit them…be a bit of a Welcome Wagon if you'd like. Well…on the first day, they knocked, and waited for almost half an hour before they concluded that no one must be home…it continued like this for the rest of the week. Some of the more nosy neighbors had observed the comings and goings, it seemed that they left the house with the shadows when the moon had risen high in the sky, and didn't return home until the sky began to change from the inky indigo, into a paler shade of violet as the sun began to rise.
Bulma could sympathize though; she was night prowler herself, and even though she loved the sun…it was just the way her internal system was set. It seemed as though all those overseas business trips and vacations on the other side of the world finally caught up with her. She had never considered her self a victim of jetlag, or of time-zone difference…but it seemed her body couldn't, and finally it collapsed.
She smiled a secret little smirk to herself, and walked back to her domed mansion, getting ready for another all-nighter.
****************
"Have you heard the news?!" Bunny Briefs practically sobbed when Bulma came down to eat breakfast, surprisingly refreshed, after finally getting a night's worth of sleep. "There have been several people in the woods found lacking a large amount of blood! Oh, it's just horrible!" she wailed. Intrigued, Bulma turned up the volume, and listened to the early morning news report.
"… have been found in the Green Acres Recreational Park with what seemed to be partially-healed slashes on their throats," the anchor reported, with her usual straightforward manner. "Most have claimed to be dizzy, and have trouble breathing, and a quickened pulse; all signs of severe blood loss. These late night joggers went out late at night in the woods, and didn't come to until a few early-morning exercisers stumbled upon them in the woods. They are safe, and still recovering, although several have lost enough blood to put them into a comatose state. The police have secured this area for further inspection and is off-limits to the public until further notice. This is Kaitlyn Morris reporting from Green Acres Recreational Park."
"Thanks Kate," came a reporter from the main studio. "Wow…that's pretty crazy, being drained of your blood…Anyways, onto the weather, Jeff?…"
"That's insane," Bulma commented, turning off the TV. "Who the hell would want to do that?"
"I don't know," the blonde tittered in a solemn tone. "Bulma," she suddenly spoke up in a commanding manner, "I know how much you like to walk about after dark, well…just in case, can you stay close to the compound? If anything like this ever happened to you…I'd-" she broke off.
"Don't worry Mom," Bulma assured. "After this report, I don't think I'll be up to anymore midnight prowls. Besides, it seems as though my system has finally gotten over this bout of insomnia."
"Glad to hear it," Bunny beamed, "Now…let's see about breakfast. I was thinking about eggs, sausage, and bacon?"
"Whatever you want, Mother," Bulma said absently, her mind already turning to the new devices that she would be translating and dismantling at work today. Bunny giggled shrilly, and turned back to the oven, pulling out pots and pans along the way.
"Hello, daughter," Dr. Briefs came into the room, affectionately kissing Bulma on top of the head, and his wife on the cheek. "You seem to be looking a lot better."
"Yep, I'm a lot better than I was before, Daddy," Bulma smiled. "In fact, I think I'm ready to join the rest of the team in the lab…during the day."
"Glad to see you're not turning into a night owl, or we'd have to adjust our whole work schedules around our department head." Bulma and her father considered this idle banter for awhile, until Bulma decided to head down to the office. She grabbed a few slices of buttered toast, and walked downstairs in the direction of the laboratory.
