Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ Their Assignment ❯ Chapter 10
Chichi sat staring straight ahead now that she had explored the car and played with all of the buttons for as long as she could to avoid looking in Goku's direction.
"So where do you wanna go Chi?" he asked into the strained silence. She jumped as if he had shouted at her and her head snapped around before she remembered she was avoiding looking at him so her resolve wouldn't weaken. She didn't realize just how much Goku saw in that unguarded look.
"Oh anywhere's fine with me!" she said brightly, without glancing in his direction.
"Alright. How about we go here?" he pulled into a popular fast food restaurant and ordered what Chichi considered an obscene amount of 'Death by Calories' and 'Acidic Caffeine Boosts' to drink with large side orders of 'Grease Laden Vegetable Matter'.
"Oh Goku you're going to be dead before you hit your mid-twenties if you keep eating like this! You should let me fix you a nice home cooked meal to show what you're missing," Chichi's affectionate voice followed her giggle from behind the mountains of bags before she remembered that she wasn't even supposed to be dating him anymore.
"Really? You'd cook for me outside of meals you fix in home ec?!" he asked eagerly, thinking that perhaps he had just been imagining the way that she had been behaving and that what Vegeta had told him he had been thinking about the girls was just the product of his imagination.
"Er, well I would if I had the time. You know, you eat an awful lot Goku what with all the training you do," she responded in a subdued voice. Goku just sighed. It had been too much to hope for. Besides, even though his cousin was very smart he wasn't exactly known for his hyperactive imagination. If Vegeta thought those dreams they had been having had something to do with the girls then he was probably right.
"We're almost there, Chi."
"Almost to my house already? We haven't even eaten anything!"
"No. We're almost to the place we're going to eat at. I didn't feel like eating in a big crowd, so we're going to… have a sort of picnic! Yeah! So we'll be there soon." Chichi's eyes appeared over the fingers scrunching the top of a bag so she could see, rather reminding him of a little girl hiding in her closet full of stuffed animals. Goku was immediately distracted from his next statement by thinking just how cute she looked like that. In fact he was so busy grinning at the picture she presented that it took him a moment to realize she was asking him a question.
"What?"
"I was asking what are we doing out in the middle of nowhere?" she repeated patiently.
"Oh there's a little brook over here where Vegeta and I used to go fishing as kids. It's a nice place to just sit and talk. We haven't done that in a long while Chichi. I thought it would be a nice change."
"Oh," she squeaked nervously before disappearing behind her shield of food bags once more as the car glided to a stop.
"Come on, let's get all this stuff unloaded," Goku said, grabbing all three coke carriers from the floor of the car, accidentally brushing Chichi's leg with his arm in the process and eliciting another small squeak from her. "Huh, you ok Chi?" he asked, straightening in concern.
"Fine!" she assured him faintly before scrabbling for her door handle and shoving the car door open, and hurriedly got out carrying as many of the bags as she could without spilling them.
"Here, I'll get everything else."
"Alright." Chichi made her way to the small shade provided by a young tree, and set all of the bags down. Then she turned to help relieve Goku of his burden before settling on the ground, farther away from him than she normally would. They ate in silence for a while, Goku somehow eating more, yet still finishing before his girlfriend.
"Well that was nice! Now I should probably get home Seshat is probably frantic by now!" Chichi was babbling and she knew it. She mentally kicked herself, yet was unable to stop her nervous chatter. "And the sky looks so very blue out here! I never noticed that it looks bluer out here… where no one else is around…" Goku just watched her with that serious expression on his face. Honestly he never looks this serious! Why did he have to whip that look out today of all days?!
"Chichi," he said when it was obvious that she was getting desperate and running out of discussion topics to put off the questions they both knew he wanted answers to. "Sit down. We need to talk."
"Isn't that supposed to be my line?" she grumbled, immediately obeying the command in his voice. She blinked at him. This was a side that she had never seen of him before, had never even imagined existed. At least, not before last night… The thought of last night made her look away, blushing. Goku immediately sensed the change in her scent and looked closely at her. He had felt her desire before but it had never been as sharp edged as it was now. He watched her fidget uncomfortably and could feel the rise in her temperature, even from where he was sitting.
Goku felt his own body tighten in response and desire began to replace all of the openings he had worked out in his mind on how to ask her what was wrong. He shifted closer, drawing in her scent. She was so close now, and her obvious discomfort was distracting him. Or to be more exact, the reason she was uncomfortable. He shook himself reminding himself sharply about why he had brought her out here. And that was to talk, not neck with her. Or maybe more… the traitorous thought whispered in the back of his mind. He also realized that he more likely to get a truthful reason out of her if he kept her off guard. Yeah, right! You just want an excuse to hold her when she's aroused. He shook that uncomfortable thought away before turning his attention back to his girlfriend.
"Ah Chichi," he rasped out, pulling her stiffening body close. "Why? Why are you trying to shut me out?"
"Because … Oh Goku, I can't go out with you anymore!"
"Because why?" he pressed, tipping her back so she couldn't hide her face in his chest.
"I, I can't tell you…" she whispered, shaking her head.
"Can't tell me? Can't tell me why you're throwing away the four years we've been together?! Can't tell me what happened since yesterday to make you pull back?! Or don't you think I deserve an explanation?" he asked her in a dangerously soft voice.
"I already told you! I can't say why! Why are you forcing the issue?!" Chichi cried back, shoving against his chest with the same effect she'd get from trying to push over a brick wall.
"Maybe I'm forcing the issue because I care enough to try to work around whatever is making you try to push me away and want to help you with your problem. Or maybe I just resent the fact that you obviously don't care as much about our relationship as I do since you aren't even willing to try to fight for it!!!" Goku practically shouted at her, raising his voice at her for the first time in their entire relationship.
"Goku, let me go," Chichi said softly, tears threatening. "Please. You don't understand why I'm doing this. You'll figure it out soon enough. Until then, please just let me go…"
He rested his forehead against hers, looking directly into her eyes with his own intense gaze. What the? Chichi could have sworn for a second that she saw a red haze flickering behind his eyes. When he finally responded his voice was calm once more. Fear and the desire that had dissipated during their argument flared low in her belly.
"Alright Chi. I'll make you a wager that if I win I get what I want and if you win you get what you want. Sound good?"
"What are the conditions?" she asked suspiciously, running a tongue along her suddenly dry lips. She tensed when she noticed Goku's eyes focus on her lips. "The conditions, Goku!" He dragged his gaze back to hers.
"Ah, the conditions. Here are my conditions. I have the rest of the afternoon to convince you that what we have is stronger than any problem you think we'll have to deal with. If I win you tell me everything and stay with me. If you decide what I'm offering is not enough then I leave you alone with the promise never to bother you again. Sound fair?" Chichi nibbled her lip, still staring into his eyes. There really was a red glow behind the black. How curious that she had never noticed that before…
She spoke almost without realizing it. "Alright, deal."
