Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ Their Assignment ❯ Chapter 18
"I can't believe our week is almost over," Bulma murmured snuggling closer to Vegeta.
"I know what you mean… You do realize, that it's all going to start tomorrow don't you?"
"Yes I figured out that much. So what are you going to do?" she looked up at him.
"I'm a prince, woman. I'll do whatever it takes to keep my people safe."
"Even if it means destroying an entire race?" she asked softly. Vegeta's expression was carefully blank and the silence stretched out painfully, thickening the air. "I see… You know I can't let you destroy Earth though." Bulma's eyes took on a faraway look.
"Hey, how are things coming here?" she asked the two men.
"Fine. We're very close. We should be able to pull it off. So what did Krillin say about your little plan when you told him?"
"He got a kick out of it. After he stopped laughing at the idea he admitted that it had never been tried before so far as he knew and if it had that there were no rules against it. Of course he got the benefit of the whole plan rather than just the parts that apply to only your part of the plan. So don't bother asking him because I don't want to risk one them overhearing you, understand?"
"Loud and clear ma'am!" he gave a snappy salute and a half smile. Then his smile faded and his hand dropped. "But do you think it'll all work?"
"It'll work. As long as we all do our parts, it'll work," Mirai assured the final agent absently. "In the meantime, if there's nothing else I'm going to send you back so I can meet with Radditz."
"Radditz?! Why do you need to see him?!" Bulma blurted the question out.
"I can't tell you. Anymore than I can tell him why I meet with you. Remember, I'm both angel and demon and in this I'm neither. I am loyal to both because its blood from both that makes me what I am. I'm not here to make sure the Earth keeps existing or that Hell gets more souls. But as long as it doesn't interfere with my purpose here I will do what I can to be of service to both of my people."
"Alright, fair enough" Bulma agreed thoughtfully, the troubled expression clearing from her face. Mirai raised his hand.
"Vegeta? How are we going to do this?" she asked sadly, her eyes refocusing on him once more.
"I think I should move back home this evening and Chichi can stay the night with you. Is that all right?"
"Yes… I guess that's for the best. I don't like it."
"I don't like it either," Vegeta admitted pulling her closer, "but we don't really have a choice do we?"
"No, we don't. All we can do is enjoy the time we still have together," she turned her mouth up and met his lips with her own.
"You want me to do that?!" Chichi demanded.
"Yes, will that be a problem?" Bulma asked refolding her legs more comfortably under her where she sat on her bed. Chichi nibbled her bottom lip thoughtfully.
"Well I have regained enough of my power I can do something like that… but why would you want me to?" she asked in a baffled tone.
"Um Chi, can I ask you not to ask me that yet? I'll explain it all later if you haven't figured it out by then ok?" Bulma asked softly. Chichi stared hard at her friend for a second before giving a slight nod.
"Alright Bulma. I'll trust you this time, but there better be a damn good explanation for all this later!"
"If we're all alive by the end of this then don't worry, there will be."
"Fair enough. It's your turn by the way."
"Oh is it? Alright, do you have any sixes?" Bulma asked after peeking at the cards fanned out in her hand.
"Go fish. This is going to be a long night isn't it?" Chichi spoke to no one in particular.
"Well?" he asked materializing from the shadows in the darkened room.
"Right on time. How very prompt of you," Radditz rose to shake his hand. "Want something to drink?"
"No. I'm going to need to be very clear headed for what she's asking me to do. Speaking of which, why did you ask me to come tonight?" the younger man asked, dropping into the offered chair.
"That, yes. How do I put this? My cousins are upset at the thought their mates might die because of their assignment, and understandably so. However I don't think any of them truly understand what's going to happen tomorrow. Now I can't get directly involved in this, but there are no rules against you getting involved. I was wondering if you would do me a favor."
"Go on," Mirai shifted a strand of violet hair out of his face, not caring that it just fell right back into place.
"Alright, this is what I wanted to ask you to do for me," Radditz leaned forward.
"It's going to be starting today isn't it?"
"Yeah," Bulma answered absently. "And on Halloween no less. How appropriate."
"There's a storm front moving in. They're closing down some roads and discouraging anyone from going out because it's expected to be really bad. Even worse than it is right now."
"I know. But that'll make it better. There won't be anyone getting in the way. The moon is going to be full tonight, Chi. Are you ready?"
"About as ready as I'm ever going to be Bulma. Although I'm not sure how long I'll be able to hold that barrier," Chichi joined Bulma at her favorite spot at the window, watching white begin to mingle with the driving sheet of rain. The storm steadily increased in force, a subtle warning of the conflict that was to come.
"Hold it as long as you can Chi. Just make sure it's long enough to give us the time we need."
"Fair enough."
"So what's our plan for tonight?" 18 asked, hooking her hair behind her ear as she joined the males at the table.
"What makes you think there is a plan?" Vegeta asked mildly, placing an egg roll on his plate.
"Isn't there?"
"Not unless you consider purging a plan. Oh wait. That is our plan. Yes, destroy as many innocent countries as possible in the shortest amount of time. There you go." He took a bite of food, ignoring the knowing stares he was receiving from his companions. 18 and Goku shared a look before getting up and going to living room to leave him in peace. The fork Vegeta was holding bent as his fist clenched around it. He didn't notice. Bulma was up to something but she wasn't letting him in. Underneath the anger and fear at the thought that she could be responsible for the death of so many of his people was the pain that she was blocking him out.
And he'd rip out the tongue of anyone who ever dared to say such a thing to his face.
Wow. You know these things seem a lot longer when you're writing them out while on the road… Oh well… Congratulations to all of you who guessed the final angel correctly. Heh heh, and to those of you who tried to say Roshi… o_O um, you might think about getting some help. Although that would be interesting if he was the final angel though, lol.
