To Con a Con Artist

Chapter Three: Oh My Kami!

Haski spun around quickly, scanning the area for any possible danger. Seeing none, she turned back to the kid.

"What is it?"

*~*~*~*~*

The boy wished that the motorcyclist wouldn't have gotten out his flashlight.

In the light, the boy could see an imposing figure, dressed all in black. It- it looked like he had no face.

The boy let out a scream at the sight. The figure, seemingly startled, spun around.

"Oh, I sure know how to pick 'em!"

He was ready to get up and run, when-

"What is it?"

The soft, cultured voice of a woman came from the figure, slightly muffled.

*~*~*~*~*

At the sound of her voice, the child stopped screaming.

Haski let out a sigh of relief. As she took of her helmet, she asked,

"Are you all right?"

*~*~*~*~*

The boy stopped screaming.

"Oh, thank Kami!"

He felt like getting up and dancing. Then, another thought automatically popped up into his head.

"I bet she'll be an easy target!"

He tried to hide his smile of glee with a grimace.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her moving. The boy turned to look at her, and was amazed.

As she took off her helmet-

"Oh, it was only a helmet," he thought sheepishly.

-long blond hair came spilling out.

A picture, a memory flashed through his mind.

She turned her face toward him, and in the moonlight, he could make out a lovely face with two cold blue eyes.

"She looks... so familiar."

He closed his eyes.

"Why can't I remember?"

*~*~*~*~*

The child didn't respond to her question, so Haski asked again, a little more sharply,

"Are you all right?"

He still didn't respond.

"I hope he's not in shock."

As she drew closer, the first thing that hit her was,

"Oh my Kami! What is that horrible smell?"

*~*~*~*~*

Memories flashed through the boys mind.

"Who cares if I knew her. I've still gotta eat."

He didn't notice her drawing closer, didn't notice the way her face scrunched up when a certain smell hit her.

The woman's voice cut through his musings.

"Oh my Kami! What is that horrible smell?"
