Chapter One

"We're going to die, aren't we?" Krillin asked the other Z Fighters as they climbed up the cliff closest to Frieza's base.

"Shut your trap, loudmouth, or Frieza will find us!" Vegeta scolded the scared little monk. "Then it will all be over."

Yamcha started backing down the cliff. "Um, you guys don't need me here, you do? I'm just gonna… go and…"

"And what?" Bulma lectured, "You'll still be killed, no matter where you go, so you might as well face him right now. Honestly. Even Krillin is braver than you, chicken."

Yamcha was outraged. "What? Chicken? Oh, and I suppose you're little Miss Bravery yourself?"

"Enough!" Vegeta yelled. "Both of you shut up right this instant or I'm gagging you both!"

"Quiet!" Piccolo shouted, "Someone else is here."

Krillin trembled in his boots. "It's not Goku, is it? Or maybe it's that second ki we sensed."

"No. It's not Frieza or that other guy, and it's not Goku, either. It's completely new. Let's go." Piccolo and the others raced toward the new power as fast as possible without setting off Frieza's scouters.

*************************************************************** *

The mysterious lavender haired man landed in front of Frieza. "So, you're Frieza, eh?" the young man yawned. "Let's get this over with. I don't have all day."

"What?! How dare you! You're just a-" Before Frieza finished his sentence, the mysterious man had thrown his sword into Frieza's heart. He dropped dead without another word.

"No, what have you done to my son, you punk?" the huge horned lizard gasped. "You'll pay!" The lizard, King Cold, charged toward the man only to get sliced up into bits before he lay a hand on the boy.

*************************************************************** *

"Did you feel that?" Piccolo whispered, "Frieza and that other guy's ki just disappeared. They're dead."

Yamcha gasped in disbelief. "D-dead? I'm outta here!" He tried to run off before whoever killed Frieza and the other being tried to kill him, too.

Krillin grabbed his arm. "Yamcha, stay here. We're all in this together. Besides anyone who gets rid of Frieza can't be that bad."

"That's it." Bulma declared. "I'm going to meet this guy." She darted off in the mystery man's direction. Behind her, she heard Vegeta mumbling something about her being an idiot and getting herself killed. Everyone else darted after her. Before any of them got too far, however, a young, lavender haired man appeared right before them.

Yamcha tried once again to run away. This time, though, Krillin followed suit. The young man stopped them in their tracks. "Hey, I'm not here to hurt you! I'm one of the good guys!" he shouted. Yamcha and Krillin calmed down.

"Good. Now that I have everyone's attention, I will be waiting over there for Goku if anyone wants to follow me." He pointed to a plateau far to his left. "But before I do, everyone here knows what a Super Saiyan is, right?"

Bulma rolled her eyes. "Who doesn't? That's all Mr. Royal Pain over here talks about."

Vegeta growled at Bulma.

The youth said, "I have something to show all of you." With very little effort he powered up and made his hair change from lavender to gold, and his eyes from blue to green.

Everyone's jaws dropped to the ground, especially Vegeta's. "No…you can't be a …Super Saiyan…you just can't," he whimpered.

"Oh, but I am." He dropped out of Super Saiyan.

"You're not even a Saiyan. Saiyans have black hair and black eyes, not purple hair and blue eyes. How can you possibly be one of us?" he asked, referring to his race.

"You'll find out everything soon enough. But you have to follow me to find out." The boy made his way to the plateau he pointed to.

Bulma declared, "I don't know about anyone else, but I'm going."

Vegeta sneered at Bulma. "You must be intent on getting yourself killed today, woman. Fine, I'll go. I want to see what he's up to. Besides, someone's gotta protect you from your stupidity."

Bulma stuck her tongue out at Vegeta

Vegeta stuck his tongue out right back.

Krillin said, "I'm game. Like I said, anyone who gets rid of Frieza can't be that bad." He followed Bulma and Vegeta. The rest of the crew followed Krillin.

Once everyone made their way to the plateau, the young man offered them a variety of soft drinks, which everyone gladly accepted, except Vegeta. He snatched his drink out of the boy's hand. After everyone found a good seat, the young man told them Goku would arrive in two hours. Everyone waited in silence, while the strange man looked intently at the blue haired woman.

"Hey," Bulma asked, "Have I seen you before?"

The youth blushed. "Uh, no."

"Like what you see?"

The youth blushed even more. "Um, I guess."

"Want my phone number?"

"Um, I already know it."

"Bulma!" Vegeta scolded, "Stop flirting with every breathing male within a five mile radius!"

"Excuse me, Mr. Pain In The Rear, but I don't recall asking you to dictate my love life." Bulma argued.

Vegeta snickered. "Or lack thereof." He was fully aware of all the problems between Bulma and Yamcha, and was only too eager to rub it in.

"Shut up. Like you're one to talk. I don't see you out there chatting up all the ladies."

"Unlike a certain human here."

"Leave Yamcha out of this! He's a very good man. He's strong, and handsome, and…and…"

"See, can't think of anything else, can you? He's slime."

Bulma fumed at the smiling prince.

Two hours after everyone arrived on the plateau, someone saw a large, round spacepod crash down not far from their location. Everyone sprinted to the crater, only to see Goku of all people coming out. Everyone except Piccolo, Vegeta, and the mystery man cheered.

"Hey guys," Goku asked, "What are all of you doing here?"

Bulma said, "This young man told us you'd be here. He defeated Frieza and some other villain. Oh, get this, he's a Super Saiyan, too."

Goku looked at the youth. "Wow, and at his age. Incredible."

"You're forgetting one thing, Kakarot," Vegeta reminded him. "You, your son, and I are the only Saiyans left alive. There's no way this brat can possibly be a Saiyan."

The man cleared his throat to get everyone's attention. "Goku, bring your wife here. She'll want to hear what I'm about to tell you."

"How do you know about Chi Chi?"

"Just do it!" the young man yelled.

"Okay." Goku put two fingers from his forehead and disappeared. A few seconds later, he appeared with Chi Chi in tow.

"Let me down, you big brute!" Chi Chi yelled, "Put me down now! I was perfectly content at home, then you drag me out to the middle of nowhere. And for what?"

The mystery man calmed the group down and put them to order before he continued. "By now you all must be wondering who I am. My name is Trunks. I come from twenty-three years in the future. In three years, on May 12, nine miles southwest of South City, a horribly cruel pair of androids will surface, killing everyone here except for Goku, Gohan, Chi Chi, and Bulma."

"Oh, and what do these supposed horrors look like?" Vegeta asked, curious to see the man back up his claims.

Trunks took out two pictures, one of each android, and passed them around to everyone. "The head scientist of the Red Ribbon Army, Dr. Gero, built these two monsters to exact revenge on Goku for destroying the army."

"But I've never met him before," Goku said innocently.

"I have," Bulma said. "Before the Red Ribbon Army was created, the Red Ribbon Company was Capsule's biggest rival. My dad took me to a lot of Capsule-Red Ribbon meetings when I was a kid and that's where I met him."

"Also," Trunks added, "You may not know anything about Dr. Gero, but he knows everything about you. Apparently a surviving Red Ribbon officer by the name of Lieutenant Violet told Dr. Gero all about you and your accomplishments."

"Wait," Goku said, "You said the androids kill everyone except for me, Gohan, Chi Chi, and Bulma. What happens to us?"

"Chi Chi becomes a recluse after everyone is killed off, Gohan becomes my master and trains me until the androids kill him at age 23, Bulma is still alive, and you, Goku, die from a heart virus you contracted in outer space. But I have the cure. Here. Take this when you get sick and you'll recover in about ten days." Trunks handed the purple medicine bottle to Goku.

"Wow, thanks! I bet it's even grape flavored!"

Bulma asked a very important question. "Hey Trunks, if you're from the future, then how did you get here?"

"In a time machine of course!" Vegeta answered.

"I wasn't talking to you. And besides, I know he used a time machine. What I want to know is where is it and who built it?"

Trunks took out a capsule and expanded it, revealing an elaborately built time machine with the word `Hope' inscribed on its side. "This here is my time machine. My mother built it."

Bulma inspected the machine. She noticed the Capsule logo on the front. "Your mother, huh. Does she own Capsule Corp?"

Trunks blushed again. "Yes."

"Whoa, she must be a genius, whoever she is. Wait a minute. You said I'm still alive in your time, so aren't I supposed to own Capsule Corp. or did someone take it over?"

Trunks decided it was time to stop beating around the bush and get to the real reason he was here. "Everyone, listen and listen good, because you are not going to believe this. I will now reveal the identity of my parents."

Bulma and Vegeta's ears perked up. Vegeta was burning to know how this man could possibly be a Saiyan, and Bulma wanted to know who could possibly overthrow her and rule her father's company.

"My mother is…Bulma."

Everyone congratulated Bulma on producing such a fine boy. Bulma felt slightly nauseous at the fact that she had flirted with her future son. She was also relieved that no one had overthrown her and her company.

Trunks cleared his throat again. "Quiet, everyone. I'm not finished. I still have not announced the name of the father."

"Well spit it out already," Vegeta said anxiously. Assuming the kid didn't currently exist, he knew of only three people who could have fathered Bulma's child. Judging by Trunks' age-he looked no younger than eighteen-and the fact that he had come from twenty three years in the future, Gohan would've still been too young to have a son as old as Trunks. So that meant either Bulma had an affair with Goku, or…Vegeta shook his head. He didn't even want to consider the other possibility.

"My father is…Vegeta."

Everyone gasped in shock. Bulma felt a little faint. Vegeta turned slightly green at the thought of coupling with that loudmouth known as Bulma. But it wasn't the act itself that scared him, or even the apparent fact that he'd be doing it with her, for he found her somewhat attractive. It was the prospect of becoming a father that turned him green.

"You must…be joking" Bulma said weakly. "How am I supposed to get into bed with him? I'm not even sure I want to. We can barely stand each other as it is."

"I really don't know," Trunks said, "My mother never told me how she got with my father, but I do know it will happen before the androids arrive. Trust me, love flourishes in the strangest places. The couples that everyone thinks will last a lifetime sometimes don't and the two people you least expect to get together do. Well, I better get going now. Goodbye, Mom. Goodbye, Dad." He called Bulma and Vegeta by their parental names. Trunks smiled a warm smile at the visibly shaken up duo, then jumped in his time machine to return to the future.
