Dragon Ball/Z/GT Fan Fiction ❯ WALK LIKE A MAN ❯ Chapter 1

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

What a difference a day makes. In the 24 hours Mai had taken herself to another level. Ok an extreme level but it was for a good cause. She spent the night at her brothers, no point in getting caught in cross-town traffic and being late to her interview. She sat at the tiny kitchen table reading the daily news. Jamie almost forgot about the changes he and Ty made to her last night.

"Shit sis....... you're looking really "butch" today. Sleep well?" Jamie said pouring a cup of coffee.

"Thank you bro......I find that comforting coming from you and hell no I didn't sleep well. Could you two have been any louder?" her voice a little too high.

"Deeper ...." Ty added about her voice as he come from the bedroom and joining them for breakfast

" Yea...how many times did I hear that last night?"

"Jealous? Smart-ass....... your voice, take it deeper. You want to have authority in your voice.

It was going to be a challenge. Trying to remember not to sit like lady and erase her minor little quirks if she this was going to work, but other than that she had the look down. The short-cropped style Ty gave her was perfect for her get up and go style. The clothes her brother picked out were altered and fit her perfectly, even the well dress Mr. Briefs would be envious of. Now her breast were another problem. Breast are hard to hide even under layers of clothing, thank heavens for sports bras and duct tape. In all the trio was impressed with their results, now the real test, convincing her potential employer. Mai packed her trunk with her new wardrobe and hurried off. She was stopped at a red light just block away from Capsule Corp. Like instinct she adjusted her rear view mirror so she could see herself.

"Shit I do look like a younger, smaller version of Jamie." She uttered to herself adjusting her hair and slipping on the pair of shades Jamie left in her jacket pocket. Attached to it was a note. "Good luck" was scribbled on a small not place in the glasses case. Returning her attentions to the traffic, she watched the pedestrians cross in droves in the intersections, workers starting their work day. A group of ladies going towards the International Bank caught her attention; they were giggling and pointing at her as they passed her car. Mai wondered if they could spot her impression of a man and were laughing at her lack of doing it well. The slow moving group fumbled in their purses and from what Mai could see were writing down something. One of them, a particularly attractive redhead come over to the driver's side as she passed by and slipped her a note.

"CALL ME.........TAMMY......828-3463"

Mai's eyes shot up to the woman who was halfway across the street, waving and blowing her a kiss. Apparently her get-up was good enough to convince them that she was a young man and if she didn't say so herself an all right looking man. But she wasn't trying to impress the masses; her main objective still waited for her. At the front desk, just like last time she took her temporary pass and headed up to the top floors where a lady greeted her with too many pencils stuck in her hair bun.

"Mr. Daveson I presume" her tone was stodgy

"Yes" Mai brought her voice down a bit trying to give it some bass.

"Mr. Briefs has been waiting, I know you are early, that's good, he hates to be made to wait. You know this is a temporary position, which may lead to permanent employment. I hope you can handle the stress and the .........."

Mai thought drifted back to yesterday when she tried to convince the executive she was worthy of the position, and that her sex didn't matter. It wasn't her fault he couldn't handle working alongside a woman and keep his paws to himself, don't blame the female species for being soft and curvy, try keeping your hands and your hormones under control mister. The sound of the yelling which could be heard down the corridor snapped her back to reality. With both doors opened you could get a great view of Trunks standing behind his desk and flipping it over. The crash was enough to make the floors rattle a bit and everyone stop in their tracks.

"No one has anything better to do than stand there?!" He roared walking up to the double doors and slamming them shut and almost removing them from their hinges. The lady escort gave Mai a faint smile "He's a little on edge today.... I hope you're being here calms him down a bit"

Mai took a deep breath and headed straight for the doors, it was now or never. A hearty tap made one of the doors open inward and dangle off the hinge. Mai couldn't believe he had damaged them by just slamming them shut. She pushed past the damaged door and introduced herself.

"Mr. Briefs my name is Mike Daveson...... I was sent by Josie"

"Yea come in.......sorry for the outbreak. I just can't find a damn thing around here"

Mai noticed the files on his guest chair and the others on the bar. He was not having a good day.

"You know this job is probably one of the hardest you'll take" He tossed Mai a company policy booklet that seemed to read like "War and Peace".

"Don't let the size fool you, most of it is just introductions to the company. The last 10 pages are rules and policies" Trunks seemed to had calmed down a bit. Mai slipped him her resume and began the task of sorting out the mess on the floor.

"Here let me help you with this" Trunks plopped the paper down on his personal chair and with one hand up righted his desk. Mai figured the desk was much lighter than she thought, no man can be that strong. Mai kept on gathering files off the floor as Trunks went over the resume.

"Well, it seems you are well-rounded. Hell you should be running this business and not being an assistant to a grumpy boss" Trunks said light heartedly. Mia had finally gathered up the papers and stacked them neatly on the edge of the desk; she took a seat in front of him and waited for an answer.

"Looks like everything I'm looking for. I guess you've got the job"

Mai grinned with excitement.

"You start now. Go to Human Resources and fill out the proper papers and you'll get your badge by the days end .......and Mr. Mike Daveson. Welcome to Capsule Corp."

An extended hand from the man whom only yesterday wanted nothing to do with her as a woman employee was delighted to have her as a man. After a briefing about what was coming up and a bit of small talk, the first order of business was the 9:30 meeting with his mother and the advertisement department. new products and old ones were giving facelifts to complement the companies growing consumers. Capsule Corp. had always been number one in the world of cutting edge electronics, housing and robotics. Smaller companies began springing up, making almost as good as products as Capsule Corp. But Bulma wouldn't go down without fighting. Her family worked hard to keep the company even during the lean years. Conference room 3 was filled with all the executives for each department. Mai walked in behind her boss who had slipped on his jacket and was not particularly happy to be there. They took their seats by the window and the presentation started. As soon as the lights went dim...her boss's attention wondered, she could see it in his eyes.

"Where on earth is he?" she thought to herself trying to keep an eye on him and follow and take notes from the presentation at hand. It after all was her job to go behind him. Even with the tinted windows she found her boss staring outside, the day was beautiful, it was warn, with a slight breeze a perfect day to be outside. After his noticeable ogling of the outside Trunks leaned over towards Mai and nudged her.

"We've got lunch at 12:30 with Mr. Packard and his daughter Felicity. It's suppose to be business, but I know it's one of my mothers set him up with alone of my associates single daughters date. Hope you have a good appetite".

She could see Trunks roll his blue eyes at the thought of another set up.

"You'll love the food through, great food"

The meeting adjourned with everyone's expatiations about the new campaign were high. Trunks thought it still needed more work. Mai's first orders were to get to the archives and get their mot popular advertisement campaigns together and go over them with a fine toothcomb and see why they were so successful. Upon walking back to his office Trunks took the liberty of introducing Mai to the executive floors staff. It was almost like being paraded around for everyone to see, but she knew it was just his way of making Mike comfortable. In a booming voice he managed to gather the attention of everyone in earshot. A small crowd gathered around as he cleared his throat.

"Everyone, I know you all have heard the rumors that I can't keep an assistant to save my life" he tried his best not to crack a smile, causing the masses to join along with him in a good chuckle.

"I'd like to introduce my new assistant, Mike Daveson. He is my temporary assistant. He has a lot to carry on his shoulders and I want all of you to be as helpful as possible. That doesn't mean everyone else can slack off." He ended his speech waving off everyone. Mai stood in the center of the circle of well wishers and people handing him files.

"Good luck son" one of the males employees said with a hearty slap on the back, which almost sent her and her packages forward.

"Got to remember to plant my feet next time" she thought to herself catching up to her boss.

Back in his office Trunks gave Mai the run down of how things worked.

"Contracts go to legal, everything else goes to Alicia out front who'll make sure it get routed to the appropriate channels. After lunch we'll go over my schedule"

Mai was handed her first stack of files.

"I'll have these finished before lunch Mr. Briefs'

"Trunks.....my grandfather was Mr. Briefs.

Mai gave him a nod and went to her desk.

"Look at the mess. Boy she sure shot out of here" commenting to the stacks of files that weren't in any type of filing order. Quietly Mai shifted through the files and one by one began sorting them. Nothing was thrown out, she wanted everything cleared by her boss. swiftly she had the first batch of files in a neat stack and color coded. She stood at the entrance way of his office and knocked.

"Come in........for future references you don't have to knock, unless the door is locked then well, lets just say I'm in one of my power meetings" Trunks said slyly loosening his tie.

"These need to be checked by you sir. Most are annual statements of the share holders profits and......."

Finished already?.......None too soon. We've got lunch in 15 minutes"

Mai hadn't even looked at her watch to check the time. Trunks pushed a panel on the wall and a door opened.

"Personal bathroom" he said stepping in "if at anytime you really need to use it, feel free"

Running water filled the office, which was now slowly showing signs of order.

"You need any cologne?.....most women go for the strong sent. Here"

He tossed out a bottle of cologne which, as far as Mai was concerned too strong. Why do men thing a stronger sent attracts women? Did they ever think to stop and ask? No, men don't ask, they assume. Assume you like the scent of their overpowering cologne, assume that you want them to order for you, assume that position really hits your G-spot! Why should he be any different?

Mai freshen up a bit, smoothing out the small wrinkles of her jacket and making sure her hair was in place.

Trunks sidestepped from in front of his mirror "Here, double check" signaling his assistant to come into he private sanctuary. Mai nervously stepped in and played as if she were his equal. But it was hard not noticing the extremely attractive profile of her boss as he washed his face. Peaking out the corner of her eye she hadn't noticed the beginning of a beard growing on his chin, but she hadn't been this closer to him either.

"His daughter is very pretty. Hey maybe you two will hit it off"

"Doubt it sir.... I really don't think I'm her type"

As the workday wound down and most of the employees had gone two figures could still be seen working at their perspective workstations. Trunks had a slew of phone calls he needed to return and as for Mai she was busy reorganizing the files and her desk and contemplating what to do with the phone number Felicity had slipped her during lunch. Still a stack of papers stood in his "To Be Signed " box at the edge of his desk. Mai had noticed them as she walked to the depository chute for tomorrow's deliveries.

"Sir" she peeked in holding one more file for the chute.

Trunks was engulfed in what seemed to be a deep conversation almost not noticing his her there.

He held up one finger and continued his conversation.

"So you mean to tell me it's my entire fault? He said with knotted brows "I'm not the type to commit?" Again his frown drew more intense." What do you want from me? I give you every thing ...what? Me? I? Look this is going nowhere. If you're going to be in town ...fine swing by when you touch down."

Without a farewell, he hung up the receiver and ran his fingers through his hair.

"You ever wonder what your life will be like in 10 years Mike" he started off

"Sir?." Mai said gripping her bundle a little tighter.

"I though life would be easier by now. My life should be so smooth" Trunks turned to the direction of the nighttime skyline. You could have heard a pin drop at the dead silence in the room. The low hum of the generators deep below the building began to filter up into the top floors.

"I like it when it's this quiet." He uttered still admiring the skyline.

"It's comforting" Mai added not really know what to do next.

"I've watched you today" Trunks added changing the subject "you fit in well around here"

Mai took that as a complement.

"But don't get comfortable. The third quarter is coming up and around here that spells chaos. Ready for the long hours, meetings, dinner parties and rearranging my schedule at least 100 times?"

"I relish the thought sir"

Was this his way of telling her "good job"? Mai wondered why a man so successful and noticeably handsome would spend his night here in his office. He could have finished signing those papers hours ago. It was like he was stalling for time. Mai took that moment to remind him he needed to empty his out basket for the evening.

"After all the work I put into today, there is no way I'm letting you get out of here without signing these." She pointed out as he placed the stack in front of him and tapping her watch

"Gez Mike, you're worse than a woman"

"It's 6:45....... don't you have some lady friend waiting at a four star restaurant waiting for you?" Mai inquired.

"Nope not tonight...or tomorrow. I haven't been out socially in a while. Never have any privacy or for that matter a date."

She was starting to understand why he took so long to finish his work. Simple tasks like signatures, going over proposals and the advertising archives all sat patiently on the side of his desk. He had no where to go and nothing to do.

"If you have plans for tonight you're free to go"

"I guess solidarity is contagious sir"

"Well if you don't' mind staying I could order in and we could get a few things out of the way. Chinese is always good"

"Yea .......but an hour later we'll have to reorder. Because I'm hungry" Mai loosened her tie and reclined in her seat, but realized she was a little too comfortable she back up straight in her chair.

"Loosen up." he removed his tie and jacket "It's ok. After hours I'm a teddy bear" Trunks said giving her a wink before placing their food order. It was nice to see that even though it was Mikes first day, he was starting to form a bond between the them. Maybe this was why he wanted a male assistant. Someone who understood a males point of view. To bad Mike, his new assistant, was fictitious.

By 8:50 they parted ways after consuming enough food to feed a small village and Mai listening to his babbling on about not wanting to go to the convention. Mai hurried home to relieve herself of her confining clothing. Stumbling in the door she had already partially removed her dress shirt on the way in. Garments began flying in every direction as she made her way to her room. She flopped on the bed and reached for the scissors. With a few nips her breast released with a pop.

"Finally" she sighed lying on her back massing her now free orbs "This is going to drive me crazy"

The shower water was comfortable as she let the massage head do its work on her tired muscles. Standing under the downpour of water she leaned against the cool tiles and let the days hustle and bustle was away.

"Today wasn't that bad" she thought to herself letting the water spray her face. With the water running she barely heard the phone ringing. Too tired to answer, it she let the machine pick it up. wrong number. After exiting and drying off she laid out her suit for the next day and sat down and watched the evening news. How ironic, her boss was a feature story in the "Celebrity Sightings" section.

It was an older story about his taking over the company and what was next for the wealthy executive.

"Our sources have confirmed he had an office affair with 2 office assistants at the same time.

It was a video of Trunks and a blond beauty entering a restaurant. They went as far as to tape them trying to enjoy a meal.

"Damn.....paparazzi will follow you to the bathroom if they could get a camera in there."

"Our source have the name of the woman ........Simone Surefire, grand daughter of the Surefire Rubber Company empire."

Mai had never seen pictures of her; she heard all the gossip abut the two. She if nothing else was stunning.

"Typical" she uttered while brewing some tea "Blonde, big boobs, wealthy family.....why in the hell was she working as an assistant?"

It just made her perception of her boss more cynical. He couldn't commit, wanting to sow his oats before he marries. Which was fine. But have the decency to not be in relationship. All the things she heard about him were probably true and that he was a womanizer and poor Simone was one of many poor broken hearts left in the dust. Perhaps she was the phone call that had him upset. Mai remembers Trunks telling the caller they would meet when they came into town. Maybe he wants to get back with her? Maybe they have a lot of unfinished business....or maybe it was just business.

Day one went great, her boss none the wiser. Will she be able to keep it up?
