The leather billfolds sat stacked on her desk along with a small box of chocolates. She had stopped and picked up his favorite chocolates. His reward for a week without throwing a fit or destroying property. As Mike, Mai could only suggest, like a close friend, remedies on how to keep his temper under control. As Mia she would smooth him over with her feminine charms, stroking his ego among other things. Either way it was a win, win situation.

It was the close of the day and Mike was prepping one of the larger conference rooms for a meeting. They would go over the itinerary for the Ginger Town conference and make sure the team that was going knew everything about everybody. She headed for the copy room to run off a couple of memos when Brittany came running behind her

“ Mike........ wait up”

Mai turned her head towards the direction that the voice was coming from. It was Brittany approaching and Mai could see she was on the same mission.

“Hey, how’ sit going?”

“Good?” She replied giving the brunette girl a smile.

Brittany was one of her close friends at work. She could depend on her to get things done in a timely and professional fashion. She was Mike’s gopher, on call whenever he needed anything being such great co-workers they often did lunch. Brittany was probably on of the nicest girls she had met.

“Have you finished the Ginger Town reports yet?”

‘Yep, I think for my first time out I did a good job pulling it together”

“You know they are starting to call you Junior around here”

She guessed it was to be expected. Her little charade had taken on a life of it’s own. Mai somehow had become the smaller version of her boss. From the way she gave orders to the way they walked together she seemed to reproduce his steps. It was pretty crazy. Mai had never looked at it like that before. She did know his every move, sometimes even before he knew it. But that was her job, to know her boss wants and needs.

In the copy room the pair separated at opposites ends of the room. Brittany began her work, as did Mai. Caught up in the view form the window, Mai never noticed Brittany coming up behind her. Gently a hand came up for being and stroked her cheek. Startled Mai almost jumped out of her skin.

“Brittany?.....what the.........?”

“Oh come on Mike. “ Her voice coy and seductive, her hands traveled down the front of her jacket trying to undo her slacks ”every time we’re in here together.........”

There is not greater force than a woman on a mission. Mia should know. Now she found herself sandwiched between the copier and the determined Brittany‘s puckered lips.

“Someone could see you”.....Mai used the lame excuse as they both struggled over supremacy of her pants.. “Whoa..... Stop it!” Mai tried to say in a firm voice only to let out an almost squeal.

“Come on Mike. You’ve got all the girls talking about you. So shy, so mysterious. “You are so cute. Are you seeing anyone?”

With a quick jump Brittany had straddled his waist, locking her legs around Mai’s torso. Barely able to balance both their weights, Mai and Brittany fell into the copier machines. Her fingers clinching Mai’s onyx mane roughly as she continued to force her lips against Mai’s. Then the kiss.

A soft peck at first than escalated into an all out tongue war. Mai’s held her breath and tried to force Brittany’s tongue from hers. This couldn’t be happening, Brittany of all people..........hell any of the females in the office for that matter. She did as much as she could to avoid any contact other than some staff members and her boss, so began the rumors. Mike was single......Mike was married.........Mike was dating someone in the department. How they started was beyond Mai.

Mai was the last person to hurt someone's feelings, but she had to lay down the law when it came to her and office relationships.

“Brittany controls yourself” she shouted pushing the over vivacious co-worker off her.

Mai took a deep breath and adjusted her clothing. After running her fingers through her hair she leaned back on the copier machine and gave Brittany and serious look.

“Brittany I am flattered .......any man in their right mind would be. But I’m sorry. I’m not interested in you that way”

Mai never felt so low. All the times they conversed together as they worked at the copiers and the lunches at the cafe downstairs. Maybe she had sent out a wrong signal somehow, somewhere? Next came the tears. In character Mai forgot how delicate female emotions could be. Mai knew if she were in her shoes she would be feel humiliated too.

“Mike...I’m sorry..... but I though....though” Brittany tried her best to catch her breath between the sobs. Mai totally understood. Even with all the confusion she offered her well-padded shoulders to cry on. Good thing mostly everyone was gone for the day. Well almost.

**************************************************************** ****************

Mai was greeted with her usual hellos the next morning. But she noticed the leering eyes of most of her fellow workers. Confused she continued her day as if, and as far as she knew nothing had happened.

“Mike....you old dog”

“Pardon?” Mai had looked up from her work to find Sid Holder sitting on the edge of her desk, grinning from ear to ear.

“So how sweet was Brittany?”

Mai crooked a brow at Sid who kept giving that damn “ were all fellas” nudge he liked to do.

“I don’t know what you're talking about Sid” still in the dark Sid let her in on the gossip.

“Heard you and the virgin queen had a little meeting in the copy room last night. So tell me was she tight like a virgin should be?”

Maybe it was the fact that he was talking about a friend and an innocent situation, or that he was gossiping.......or maybe jut the slimy way he said it all that made Mai slide up from her chair and took one. Full fist, all face. Before Sid could get out that slimy laugh he found himself on the company floor clutching his face on the floor with Mai standing over him being held back by co- workers.

“Get up.......you fuck. Get up!!” Mai arms bent behind her back with the look of a kill on her face. It was surprising to see the mostly quiet and cheerful Mike acting like a “mad man”

“You little shit” Sid spat picking himself up and taking a cheep shot at Mai in the stomach. Her body wasn't ready for the impact of a blow from a man almost twice her size. It was a miracle she didn’t toss.

“Let the little shit go. Your daddy ain't’ her to save you now” Sid said as she struggled and broke free.

The crowd gasped. As Mai held her stomach barely able to stand.

“I don’t need my daddy to kick your sorry ass ”

The crowd tightened in on the pair as they took shot after shots at each other.

“Your little girlfriend ain’t so pure as we all thought” Sid said pointing to Brittany as she stood in the wings crying “Like I thought. Simply a tease. Sucking up. Acting like she’s too good for anyone. So tell me Mike did she blow ya first or hand job ya?”

Mai’s short fuse just got shorter. Tired and weak she mustered up all she had left in her and dropped Sid like a habit. Sid lay out cold on the floor as Trunks exited his office. Finally realizing what all the commotion was he pushed through the crowed.

“Mike?”

“Sir” Mai tried her best to stand on her wobbly legs. “Just a little conversation between fellas” She groaned out holding her jaw “I’ll be in shortly ......I just need to straighten up myself first sir”

Still trying to be professional even thought she was clearly in pain, Mai took out her handkerchief and wiped the blood from her lip and face. Brittany came rushing to her side.

“Mike.....I’m so sorry” was all she could say under the continued sobs.

“Not your fault. People need to get their facts straight before opening their mouths. Just go back to work”

The crowd parted letting Mike exit. Several cheers of approval come for the masses as Mai limped back to her seat, head still pounding from the fight.

“You ok ?” Trunks asked holding a correspondence envelope in his hand.

“Yes sir ....fine”

“Good then, in my office now”

Mai pulled herself up with the little strength she had left. The shot trip from her desk to his office seemed like a long one in her condition. Trunks signaled her to sit as he plopped into his chair. The look on his face told the whole story.

He was upset big time. No amount of explanation was going to make this one go away. Trunk eyes scanned his assistant with an eerie feel as his glasses sat barely hanging on at the tip of his nose. He tapped his finger lightly on his desk before standing up and clearing his throat.

“You know this is a professional establishment. No room for bar room brawling ... I won't tolerate such unprofessional antics”

He came form around his desk and stood right in front of Mai.

“I’m sorry for the fight. I was fine until Sid began running off at the mouth.”

“It’s not excuse. But tell me........” He knelt down closer “how did it feel to pop Sid one?”

Mai couldn’t help but smile, which with it came pain. She laughed and winced at the same time.

“I was great. He has no legs at all”

The thick layer of tension was lifted with a good dose of laughter.

“So he has no legs?”

“None?”

“ He fell like a sack of potatoes”

“Too bad I missed it”

“I’ll see if security has it on film”

Trunks offered a washrag filled with ice to prevent more swelling. No point in looking as if you lost the fight. Momentarily work had been halted in the executive office of Capsule Corps. leader. Lighthearted conversation between the two went on until lunchtime. Mai sat timidly on the sofa as her boss tended to her wounds. His touch was gentle and sincere. He called got the first aid kit out of his bathroom and played medic to Mai’s patient.

“Hey got plans for lunch?” Trunks asked kneeling in front of Mai applying antiseptic to the cut on her forehead.

“None” Mai tried her best not to cringe at the application of the stingy solution.

“Want to go with me to one of my favorite spots?”

“Sure. You’re buying sir?”

“Right”
