What Dreams Become

Chapter Two

Unexpected Guest

Blackness. Nothingness. No sensation other than a deep cold that seemed to seep into every pore. She opened her mouth to cry out in pain only there was no escaping sound for her ears to hear. She closed her eyes then opened them noting no change. There was only the deep, blackness surrounding her on all sides.

She concentrated with all her being on that one place of warmth and welcoming. This was her lifeline back to the real world. She kept that one place pictured in her mind. A place that meant security where she could go when she was feeling down. A sanctuary that was all her own when the world without seemed overbearing.

:Please, please, let me make it back home,: she focused with the determination she was known to possess.

She could feel herself start to grow tired a telling point of how much effort she was putting into this jump. She had never spent this long in the black void in between jumps.

She could no longer feel her limbs and the waiting blackness seemed to be closing in on her. She shut her eyes pushing with renewed vigor one more time. She would not give up without a fight. She was a mighty Sayian and refused to die in isolation, in dead space. She would go out fighting rather than meekly giving in.

Her breaths were coming in ragged gasps as she concentrated on her heart beat that reminded her that she was alive. A separate entity from the surrounding nothingness. :Grandfather,: she called out in the silence of her mind as she felt herself start to weaken.

Abruptly, her body was slowly sinking onto a very solid surface. Her limbs were too weak to hold her up. Her eyelids were rapidly closing. Her long, silver mane was falling over her face obscuring what remained of her eyesight. She could feel life start to return to her body as she lay there.

She felt her conscious start to sneak away slowly taking away her awareness with it. She knew that she had really strained her abilities to the max this time. She would be out for awhile. There was something in the very back of her mind that was trying to gain her attention before she slipped away. Some little detail that was vastly important.

What was so crucial that it tried to delay a healing sleep? She slipped away before the problem could present itself.

* * *

Teancha came slowly towards awareness. Her limbs felt unusually weighed down and her reaction time was really sluggish. Moving was a great effort. When she tried to stretch out her legs it felt as if something were on top of them. Her lids were so heavy that she had to pry them open.

She took a deep breath while blinking her bleary eyes trying to focus them. She struggled to move and found that she could not. She shifted a little and an arm slid into her view point. A hand wacked her in the nose making her blink.

Now, she became aware of the presence of another body overtop of her own. She shifted her weight around trying to slide out from beneath the hulky form that was impeding her. She flared up a little so that she shoved the form off her. She was not gentle about it and there was a soft, protesting grunt from the other individual. She froze waiting until she could hear deep rhythmic breathing before stirring again.

She stared over at that form trying to think back. Vaguely, like a very elusive dream she recall a red sky overhead. A strange alien city filled with alien beings of many different shapes and sizes. There was something on a nightmarish portion that was just out of reach.

She closed her eyes trying to visualize the place once again. Bring it back into focus. Within her mind she saw an approaching ship that she knew deep down, had a sinister plan. She watched it approach with deadly intent as if the beings inside were looking forward towards this heinous act.

There was a little creature with twin horns sat inside some sort of floating chair. The thing was watching the planet approach with an eager look within the depths of his reddish, dead eyes. The lifeforce radiating out from this creature was one of corruption and death. She could almost smell it on the beast's breath. She wanted to gag it was so repugnant.

There were two other, lesser creatures at its side who looked towards it for direction. They would do anything at it commands. They both had weak wills, but they loved to inflict pain upon others. They were there by choice, not by force. All of them were looking on with anticipation as a large, red orb appeared before them.

Suddenly, from the surface of the planet there appeared to be one who would challenge what they were about to do. The air around the three thickened with morbid fascination as they watched this lone defender try in a vain attempt to get past their pawns. This lone fighter was doing a valiant effort of it. The little creature in the floating chair was vastly pleased with this part of the show. The thing was so happy that it decided to take out the planet rather than have the hired henchman do it.

Teancha pulled away before the rest of the scene could be played out. She knew what the end result would be. The red world would disappear under a golden shower of fire. The unconscious form laying there on the floor was the gallant defender she had rescued without thinking about the consequences.

:I guess all that stuff must have happened. It just wasn't a dream. I was really there. Wonder what world that was? Boom, gone in moments,: she shuddered at the memory.

She looked over at the figure that seemed to be resting. The person appeared to be a mess with matted black hair that was plastered to the skull. Laying in a prone position she could not tell if the fighter was male or female.

:Wonder what race this one is from? Now, is my guest the last of his or her kind? Or are there more of them out there somewhere? Worldless,: she winced at the mere thought of losing an entire world. :What must have grandfather have felt when he learned of the news?: she pondered while sitting there.

She glanced up when the body under question gave out a low groan. She sat there watching impassively while the figure began to stir attempting to stretch. A soft explicit was uttered through tight lips when injuries screamed out their protest against such movement.

" Must be showing my age," a deep voice muttered identifying this one as male " Takes more than a few hits to put me out of commission," the tones were amused as if this were a standard running joke with himself

She tried to stifle the laugh that escaped her control as he attempted to stand while using some really colorful language. Some of it was really inventive and she was quietly taking notes on some of the more interesting ones.

He whirled or more like attempted the act, to confront the other occupant in the room. He let out a shouted a rather nasty phrase that really impressed her.

" Wow, is that actually possible?" She would most definitely have to remember that one next time she had it out with Trunks--out of earshot of any adult of course. Her grandmother would blister her ears if she was caught just thinking that phrase.

He looked around rapidly trying to find the source of the words. He spotted a child around twelve, not that he was any experts on kids since he avoided them. He assumed that she was female with the long mane of silver hair that framed her face in little wiry wisps. She was dressed in a simple green outfit that matched her emerald eyes.

She was brushing some of those locks out of her face in an almost subconscious way. Her gaze was open and scrutinizing. He looked down at himself and saw what a mess he presented to this child. He did not care about appearances since he was a soldier and very little bothered him. He looked around at the simple quarters which did not tell him what he really wanted to know.

How had he survived the attack upon his world? He had been looking death in the face, looming right into his eyes when he lost consciousness. He had been expecting to wake up in the afterlife.

" Where am I," he demanded feeling weak not up to a confrontation. He could bluff his way he figure since he was facing only a child. " Are you one of Frieza's playthings?"

She ignored his first question closing in on the last one. " Frieza?" She gave him a blank look as if the name was unfamiliar. She titled her head to one side as she wore the look of one in deep thought. " Is that the name of that laughing, little thing? That creature was ugly and the aura was one of death," she made a face of disgust.

" How can you not know the name of Frieza? Do you come from some wayward, backwards world?"

" Give me a moment," she glared at him, " the name does sound familiar. I just have to remember where I have heard it before."

He snorted as if she were rather slow in the thinking department.

" Yes, he was the one my grandpa, Goku defeated on Namek. That was ages ago. Why are you bringing his name up? He's long dead," she dismissed the dictator as if he were no longer of any consequences.

" Dead," he seemed insulted at the very concept, " That carcass just destroyed my world," his ki began to rise.

" That's impossible! He is history, no longer a terror to the universe. My grandfather cut him up into little piece and sent him to hell," she was not going to explain that it was Trunks from the alternate universe who did the deed not the one she was living with. It was confusing enough for her rather than trying to explain it to a stranger who not looking very happy.

" Who else has the ability to reduce my world to bare space debris?"

" I don't know," she was suddenly frustrated since she could not answer his question. " I do know that Frieza and his father, King Cold, met their demise on my world. They died almost twenty years ago." Her eyes were beseeching him to believe her.

He couldn't since he had seen for himself Frieza's act. Maybe the kid was touched in the head or something. Blasting her into the wall would not accomplish him anything. He wanted answers but for now he would have to wait for them. Maybe this was all some sort of elaborate trap by that back-stabbing monster.

He release his pent up ki, " How did I survive the blast?"

She appeared to look guilty which he found curious. " I rescued you at the last moment before the monster's attack could overtake you. I was too late to stop it from impacting upon the surface of the planet. I didn't know what that thing's intentions were until it had already acted," she refused to think of it as a real being.

He laughed in a hoarse voice making her grit her teeth and cross her arms very much in the stance her grandfather would have done. She hated it when people laughed at her as if she were foolish.

" A child? Hah," he ignored the look of fury she threw at him. This kid had some really bizarre notions of her abilities. He was very strong among his own people and he was no match for Frieza, yet this child was boasting that she could have taken on that powerful tyrant.

" How could you, a mere infant, have stopped one who is capable of destroying an entire planet? I am a veteran of many encounters and was powerless..." words failed him as grief hit him.

" I could have stopped him and rammed that attack down his laughing throat until he choked on it," her eyes of deep emerald green became twin lava pools that seemed to radiate out into the room. He found himself covered with perspiration.

He almost believe her from the way she was acting. He sternly reminded himself that she was just a child. One that was not of his race so must be inferior.

" Now, you are being foolish. I can fathom you rescuing since I am here. This other bit," he dismissed with a wave of his hand.

" Fine, then don't believe me," there was a look of mischievous in her eyes that bespoke of amusement at his expense later on. He was not sure that he cared for that idea. " You're a mess," she announced coming closer to him taking in his matted hair that practically covered his face. She could not get a good look at his face because of the thick, black mess that obscured it.

He was covered in dirt and other debris. What remained of his uniform was almost laughable that it only covered the most important parts. She could see some nasty looking scars on his shoulders and scars.

What was it about his uniform that practically screamed at her. It was so familiar. She had seen something similar to it before. But where?

He looked down at the remnants of his battle-suit and had to agree with her observation. He had taken quite a beating trying to get past Frieza's soldiers.

" You can get cleaned up in there," she indicated the bathing facilities showing him how they worked.

She measured him with her eyes trying to gauge his size. " While you are cleaning up I'll get some fresh clothes that are local. Those are history."

I know I am keeping everyone in suspense about who this person is (although I have given some very obvious hints as to who it could be). This mysterious person is identified in the next chapter. There will also be a few segments of humor in the next chapter as well. These two first ones have been a little on the serious side. Until next chapter...please review, review.
