Dragon Knights Fan Fiction / Dragon Knight (adult) Fan Fiction ❯ Earth and Fire, Night and Day ❯ Good-bye Kiss and Then Some ( Chapter 2 )
Disclaimer: You know, this is stupid, not to mention pointless. I have better things I could be doing. Like running into a wall, repeatedly... Yes, I know, I'm actually just writing all this to get out of saying it. Alright, alright... [mutter, mutter] I don't own Dragon Knights; happy now? [mutter, mutter]
A/N: Yes, contrary to popular belief, I am not actually dead! Sorry it's been so long; I have no excuse other than laziness ^^;; But be happy; this is the chapter where this short little ficcy begins to show some signs of a plot... Wait, is that a good thing? XD Well, enjoy.

Chapter Two: Goodbye Kiss and Then Some
===============================================================< /div>
"Rath. Rath!"
Rath groaned a little, reflectively swatting at the person who was shaking him. The person let him go, but he didn't go away. "Rath, please get up," who ever it was said crossly.
Rath opened one eye, moaned, and shut it again. "Alfeegi, go `way," he muttered.
Alfeegi glowered at him. "No," he said firmly. "You must get up. The Lord wants to see you as soon as possible, and you need to get dressed."
Rath, in response, buried his head under a pillow. Alfeegi removed it and grabbed the knight by the back of his nightshirt, hauling him to his feet. Rath glared sleepily.
"There," the officer said rather smugly. "And I'll be back in fifteen minutes to see that you've dressed, so don't try going back to sleep." With that, he left the room.
Rath sighed, seriously considering getting back in bed anyway, but fifteen minutes was an awfully short time to sleep in exchange for having to face the wrath of Alfeegi, so in the end he decided against it. He smirked as he got dressed; he could hear a familiar voice shouting something about how he wanted to eat first, a sure sign that Alfeegi was trying to get Thatz up. `Poor guy,' he mused - as much about Alfeegi as Thatz...
They had been back at the castle for a week now, and so far Rath and Thatz had managed to hide their relationship from everyone - not that they had had the chance to do much worth hiding. Their duties around the castle kept them too busy during the day, and even at night it wasn't particularly safe. The three knights slept in rooms right next to each other, and Rune wouldn't hesitate to come rushing in if he heard a scream... But they still tried to spend as much time together as possible. Rath's new favorite thing to tease Thatz about was that people might get suspicious if Thatz spent his time doing something besides eating and sleeping.
A few minutes later Alfeegi returned, a very groggy Thatz and a disgustingly alert Rune in tow. Rath sighed, but allowed himself to be dragged off as well. There was a slight chance, he supposed, that Lykouleon actually wanted them for something worthwhile - but he seriously doubted it...
They quickly reached the Dragon Lord's audience chamber. Rune bowed hastily, as did Rath (though with slightly less enthusiasm), and Thatz yawned. Lykouleon chuckled while Alfeegi tried franticly to pull Rune off Thatz.
"Sorry about waking you all up earlier than you're used to," he apologized. "I mostly wanted to talk to Rune and Thatz, but I'll need to discuss something with you as well, Rath."
Rath suppressed another sigh. `I knew it; this is gonna be boring,' he thought.
Lykouleon turned his attention to Rune. "You first, Rune," he said cheerfully. "I need someone to go to the Fairy Forest to discuss some trading issues, and I thought you'd be the best choice. It seems that they..."
Rath zoned out. Lykouleon finished briefing Rune after a while and handed him some papers with further instructions, then dismissed him. Rath was just about to fall asleep when the Lord turned to Thatz.
"Now for you, Thatz," he began, his face becoming more serious. "I have a slightly less pleasant job for you, I'm afraid. We have a bit of a problem in Zul." (A/N: Yes, this is actually a real place in Dusis! It's an island to the north-east of Draqueen; if you have book five then you can see it on the map on page 58) "There has been an outbreak of thievery, which we believe to be being carried out by one group. I've sent three groups of Dragon fighters to attempt to stop it, but so far none of them have been successful. And the last group... has been gone for a month, and hasn't reported back. I was thinking this would be right up your ally."
Thatz stared at him. "Um... Okay. Can I eat now?"
Lykouleon raised an eyebrow. "You do... understand what I'm asking of you, don't you?"
"Zul, gang of thieves, Dragon fighters disappearing into thin air, right up my alley," Thatz said, ticking them off on his fingers. "Now can I eat?"
Lykouleon sweatdropped. "Very well then. You may go." Thatz ran off at record pace.
The Dragon Lord shrugged, then finally turned to Rath. "Anyway, Rath. Your job should be the easiest, but unfortunately I don't think you'll like it."
Rath frowned slightly. "What is it?" he asked. "Is it really important? Because if it isn't I want to go with Thatz."
Lykouleon shot him a surprised glance but shook his head. "No, I'm sorry. I think Thatz can handle himself, and I really do need you to stay here and protect the castle."
The words took a few moments to register. "W-what?!" Rath yelped. "Aw come on; that's just not fair!"
"I'm sorry Rath," Lykouleon said again. "But those two missions are the only important things going on in the kingdom right now that require the attention of a Dragon Knight, and as you probably noticed they're both more the other Knights' specialties."
"But I wanna hunt demons!" the Fire knight protested, pouting.
The older man gave him one last apologetic look. "Some other time, I promise," he assured him. "You may go have breakfast now."
Rath shot him an angry glare, then stormed out and headed down to the dining hall.

Rune, who never seemed to need much food, had already finished eating by the time Rath got down to the hall. The dark-haired boy was grateful; it was nice to spend a few minutes alone with Thatz, even if they were both stuffing their faces.
Finally, though, they finished eating and Thatz was able to start some actual conversation. "So what was your mission from the Lord?" he asked curiously.
"Don't get me started," Rath warned as he wiped his mouth off with a napkin. "He asked me to stay home."
"That sucks," Thatz agreed, leaning back in his chair. After taking a glance around just out of paranoia he added, "I wish you could come with me. It would have been nice."
"I know." Rath put his feet up on the table in a disgruntled manner. "I tried to get Lykouleon to let me, but nooo... Ya'd think with all the Dragon officers crawling around this place he'd have less of a problem with sending us all out."
Thatz smirked. "You do know how bad Rune would kill you if he heard you talking like that, right?"
Rath grinned. "Sure. That's part of the reason I do it."
"You're a brat," Thatz snickered.
"Hmm..." Suddenly Rath took his feet off the table and turned in his seat so he was facing the other knight. "Yes I am," he agreed, suggestively tracing Thatz's jaw line with a finger.
Thatz shivered, then reluctantly swatted Rath's hand away. "Not here," he said, trying to sound firm. "Someone could walk in and you know it."
"But..." Rath pouted for good measure. "It's been a week, and anyway who knows how long you'll be gone?"
"Well..." he said uncertainly, then Rath abruptly leaned over and kissed him and any protest he might have prepared was temporarily forgotten.
When they finally broke apart Thatz was gasping for breath. "Please?" Rath whined, batting his eyelashes. Thatz made a face.
"You know," the Earth Dragon Knight commented, "it's times like these that make me wonder who exactly would be the `girl' in this relationship..." Rath stuck his tongue out, and Thatz suddenly grinned mischievously. "Don't stick it out unless you're going to use it," he solemnly intoned, then pounced.
Rath moaned a little into the kiss, but then he suddenly stood up, never breaking it, and pushed Thatz onto the table so he was on top instead. When they pulled apart for air Thatz made a face, and the Fire knight snickered. "Consider this payback for the `girl in this relationship' comment," he explained, then swooped down for another kiss. He trailed kisses down the other knight's neck as one his hands slide up his stomach. When he reached Thatz's collarbone he drew back briefly to remove his shirt, then leaned back down to tease one of his nipples with his tongue. Thatz groaned, arching his back slightly and running his fingers through the other's thick black hair.
The door slammed shut. "Tha- ... ah... AH!"
Rath's head snapped up and Thatz's jaw fell open. "R-Rune?!" the former thief choked. "What're you doing here?!"
"I-I w-was just coming to, um, see if you were, uh, done eating, because you n-need to pack..." Rune explained, though it was slightly muffled because he was turned away from them and covering his face with his hands. "I, um, guess you're... busy... so I'll just go."
"Hey, hold on a second," Thatz said, trying to slip his shirt on but having some problems since he was in such a hurry. "Just promise us you won't tell anyone about this, okay?"
"Um... sure!" Rune took off as fast as he could go without actually running.
Rath couldn't help but smirk. "You know," he commented, "the way he was acting, you'd think we were completely naked..."
Thatz glowered at him. "It's not funny," he said worriedly. "I wonder what he thinks of us now..."
Rath shrugged, hoisting himself up on the table. "Whatever he thinks, he'll get used to it," he said confidently. "We have to tell everyone sooner or later anyway, you know."
"Yeah, I suppose," Thatz admitted, and leaned forward to kiss him.
"Thatz!" Alfeegi called, just before storming in. "Are you packed yet?" he demanded.
Thatz resisted the temptation to hide behind his koi. "N-no," he gulped.
The white dragon officer shot him a death glare. "You better get to work on it then; the Lord wants you to leave today." And with that he stormed back out, muttering something about having to rearrange his schedule.
Rath sweatdropped. "Okay, maybe we don't have to tell *him*," he amended.

A/N: Bwaha, embrace the evilness ^_^ [hides from enraged fans] Yes, I know, I'm cruel. But the next chapter will be better, honest! It has much more yaoi lemony goodness in it, and it's nearly twice as long! [nervous grin] Er, R&R onegai?
