A/N: Yay! New story! I don’t own it!
It was raining outside. The once bright moon was now covered by the dark clouds as rain poured down. Keladry of Mindelan was sitting on her floor next to a candle. Her dreamer’s hazel eyes reflected the candle’s flame as thick, long, dark lashes fluttered across pale cheeks. The flame made her pale skin took on a golden glow, making her freckles stand out more. Her mouth was set in a grim line as she watched the words in the letter form sentences.
Nealan,
I am sorry to send this letter to you on such short notice. Tomorrow we’ll be catching a boat to the Yamani Isles. The emperor needs me there, and as my squire, I am forced to drag you with me. I give you the night to say goodbye to your friends. I’ll be in Corus by morning. Don’t ask why Kel can’t come, Jon won’t let me ask, he won’t let Raoul ask either. Sorry.
Alanna
Kel looked up. On her bed was her best friend, Neal. He was laid on his back across the back. His head hanging off the bedside, dark brown hair draped opposite from the rest of his hair, making his widow’s peak even more visible. Bright green eyes looked at their owner’s friend.
Kel sighed and brushed a lock of her light brown and blonde, short, now shoulder length hair behind her ear. She looked at Neal.
“She got to the point right away.” Her soft voice filled the once silent room.
Neal rose into a sitting position. He tucked his long legs under him into a crossed position.
“Why couldn’t Raoul and you go? I mean, you’re the one that speaks Yamani fluently!” Neal whined as he slid onto the floor. The two looked at each other.
“Be grateful that you actually go to other countries. Raoul and I go to different villages cleaning up after disasters and other people. I feel like the maid of the maid. Lord Raoul cleans up after people and then I clean up after him. With you traveling with Alanna, people clean after you. You really are a spoiled squire.”
“Yes, but that’s only because my father is ‘ Thee Duke Baird of Queenscove! Oooooohhhh!’” Neal said in a fake girl voice. “Stupid parents, they basically sold me to Alanna.”
Kel smirked, “Be nice Nealan.” She spoke with a mock motherly voice. Besides, you’ll like the Isles, but you can’t make those smart remarks. They could kill you. They would kill you.”
“Yeah, yeah, I understand. It’s considered disgraceful to show emotion or misbehave.” Kel nodded. “But I heard a little about this before. Kel, I’m going to be gone all four years of Squire-dom! I can never see my beloved friends!” He brought a hand to his forehead and pretended to faint.
“Oh well, as the King’s Champion, Alanna has to do whatever he says. Besides, we can always write to each other. Somehow, someway.”
She folded up the letter and handed it to Neal.
Neal looked at it darkly. “Stupid red waxed letter.” He mumbled as he looked at the broken red wax seal.
