Usually, my stories are crazy and humourous but not this time. I'm sad to say but you will not find any jumping JJ's or flirty Dee's. Instead, you'll get Lord's and Lady's of high titles. All the characters are very OOC...with a slight character trait here and there, and may not seem normal. You have been warned fair and square. In Times of War: The Priest of Visa
Told By: KitoSan Yang
"Oracles say that a holy man will be born of mixed blood. From the depths of shadows to the realm of the heavenly sky, this man is blessed with the gift of sight. Although he is blessed with the ability to foretell the future, he is forever chained to his fate, awaiting the day when he may be freed from the grasps of Man. Cursed, he awaits the day when he will finally find paradise."
"I am that man." A fair haired man with midnight eyes states as he stops writing his entry in his leatherbound journal. Giving into the night, Ryo MacLean, the Priest of Visa cleans his desk up and makes ready for the night. Leaning down on bended knees, Ryo gives a quick prayer of peace and protection and settles into the blankets. Snuffing out the candle on the drawer next to his bed, Ryo leans back into the blankets and lose himself in their warmth. Closing his eyes, the Priest of Visa smiles warmly as he's surrounded by a field of flowers.
Feeling the sun's warm rays caress his face, Ryo bends down to observe the many flowers that stand proud and tall. Caressing the petals of a lively yellow daisy, Ryo's eyes grow large with horror as the daisy turns a crimson red, staining his hands with blood. Jerking upright, Ryo stares disbelievingly at his bloodied hands. The sounds of horses' hooves fill his ears as the Priest of Visa takes a look around his surroundings. To his left stands the proud ruler of Xavia, Liotta Grant. To his right is the heir of Leia, Berkeley Rose. Together as one, both leaders smirk as they raise their swords, preparing to strike the dark-eyed priest.
Before he can move, vines of flowers shoot out and bind Ryo's arms and legs, trapping him. Unable to tear away from his chains of death, the Priest of Visa closes his eyes and prepares for the final blow. Just before the swords strike him, a figure cloaked in black appears before Ryo, faces him, and protects him with his body. Captivated by emerald eyes, Ryo loses himself into the depths of this stranger's eyes. The figure continues entrancing Ryo as he stops the swords mid-air and breaks them in half. The visions of the two leaders disappear as Ryo's bindings vanish. Snapping out of his thoughts, Ryo comes back to reality as the Temple Maiden of Visa and the Guardian of the Priest come to his side.
The cloaked figure watches the re-union and slowly walks away. Remembering his manners, the fair haired man runs to the stranger and and touches its arm. Smiling and uttering "thank you's", Ryo's smile slowly dies as he sees blood on his hands. Looking at his hands once more, Ryo notices a dagger is in his chest. Tears cascade down his face as he smiles and caresses the stranger's face, falling into his arms. The dark figure catches Ryo's body in time, carrying him through the fields of flowers. Following behind are the Temple Maiden of Visa and the Guardian of the Priest.
Piercing screams jerk Ryo wide awake as he stares in shock at the flames engulfing the forest.
Earlier in the Evening
Shouts of battle cries can be heard across the fields of Adenlian as thousands of men engage in battle. Screams of death fills the air as leaders of the opposing army shouts orders. For hours the battle rages, never seeming to cease. Finally, as the sun dies down along with the daily activities of normal life, victory stands neither at the doors of Leia and Xavia. Retreating to their base, the Leians and Xavians retires for the moment, putting a stop to a futile battle. Sitting in his tent, Lord Berkeley Rose contemplates what to do. For months, he fought against Liotta Grant to gain the Man of Sight. Unfortunately, Lord Grant had other plans in mind. Seems the man was also after the Priest of Visa but for reasons unknown. Money? Power? Greed?...these were Man's greatest ambitions that drove them to become insane. Even he, Lord Rose of Leia was unsure of why he sought after the Priest. Was it due to the pestering of the Wise Men who reminded him every day of his duties as heir? Or was it simply because he wanted the future? Lost in this thoughts, Rose is surprised when a voice interrupts him:
"I brought you supper...thought you might liked to eat." A blonde hair woman comments as she places the tray of food next to Rose.
"Ah Dee-Dee...it's just you." Rose whispers as he lays back in his chair.
Moments of silence passes by as Diana struggles to contain her emotions. It wasn't right...not at all. It wasn't fair that this warm hearted man had to carry the weight of Leia on his shoulders. It wasn't fair that he had to rule his country according to the approval of the Three Wise Men. It wasn't fair that he has to do it alone. Shaking in anger, Diana finally speaks:
"It isn't fair..."
"What isn't?" Rose asks as he stares longingly in her eyes.
"You shouldn't be miserable while everyone else is happy. It's not right that you should give up your dreams for the sake of these advisors you call Wise Men." Diana utters as she keeps her gaze downward.
"Dee-Dee, what are you saying?" Rose replies softly as he lifts up her chin.
"Rose-sama should be free...not bounded by duty or chains that refuse to break free." Diana continues with tears in her eyes.
Reaching a hand to her face, Rose strokes her cheek lightly. "Oy, Diana-chan...do not mourn over my fate for it is already decided. Instead of worrying about me, you should worry about yourself more. You should concentrate on your life after all this."
Tears falling, Diana's heart break at Rose's last statement.
"My life is here...with you. Even if I'm in your service til the day I die, I don't care...as long as I'm at your side" Diana looks longingly at Rose. Touched by her love and devotion, Rose smiles at her and kisses her on the forehead. Whispering a light "thank you", Rose bids Diana leave for the night. Bowing her head in obedience, Diana takes her leave. Heading towards another tent, Diana searches and finds the man she's looking for. Entering his tent, Diana announces her presence and gives the man her message. Nodding his head in understanding, the mysterious man takes his leave and heads to his Lord's tent.
"You called for me my Lord?"
"Ah yes, I did."
"To what honor have you bestowed upon me to be greeted with your presence?"
"Please my friend, enough with the formalities. I've called you here for a mission."
"A mission?"
"Yes." Rose replies as he stands up and paces back and forth in his tent. "Fighting against Liotta's Army is futile. We cannot win...it's a waste to continue these useless battles, sacrificing the lives of noble men. I have come a conclusion. I am going to discontinue these engagements." Pausing, Rose continues his speech:
"Dee, have you ever heard of the Priest of Visa?"
"The Man of Sight?"
"Yes. The Three Wise Men of Leia advises that it's for the best of the country if I obtain this man. As the leader, I cannot abandon or object their wishes for it is the custom of our nation. By obtaining this Priest, I will have a weapon to protect myself for the future. And, I will be able to defend it...along with an heiress."
"That issue is still being pressed?"
"I'm afraid so. My advisors won't let it rest. They demand I marry one as quick as I can and continue the bloodline. They already chose one for me."
"You know you can easily decline."
"Heh...if only it was that simple my friend." Rose gazes at Dee and smiles as he his greeted with an understanding nod.
"What about Diana? You know she cares deeply for you."
"As does Jemison for you. It's hopeless between Diana and I. If I were to marry her, she'd be forever outcasted by members of my family for she is not of royal blood. Given her background, she's been through hell once...I don't want to see her suffer ever again." Giving a bitter laugh, Rose continues:
"Even if I long to be with her, we are not meant to be. Our destinies have already been told...my life is soon ending." Jerking back to the present, Rose smiles:
"Enough my friend. I need you to obtain the Priest of Visa for me. In the forests of Arlan, you will come across the Temple of Visa, dedicated to the Goddess of Fate. It should be easy to evade during the night, but be aware of Liotta's men. For they too know the whereabouts of this man I seek. When you leave on your quest, I shall retreat back to Leia and await you there."
"You have this much faith in me?"
"Heh...you are the only man I have faith in."
Nodding his head, Dee bows and exits the tent. Upon leaving, Dee notices Diana in the shadows. Stopping in mid-stride, Dee approaches her and tilts her face up. Bittersweet tears stream down her face as she struggles to smile.
"Have faith." Dee offers as he strides back to his tent.
Entering his tent and gathering his supplies together, Dee prepares for his mission. Unsheathing his sword, Dee polishes and cleans it to keep it sharp and deadly. Satisfy with the results, the raven-hair warrior gathers his horse and starts to leave but is halted by another soldier.
"Jemison, what are you doing?"
"I heard about your mission from Lady Diana. Please Dee-senpai, won't you let me accompany you?" the lavender hair man asked.
"I'll be alright."
"B-but...if any harm should befall you, I don't know what I would do. You're the only person I have left to turn t--"
Placing his hands on the young man's shoulders, Dee assures him:
"I appreciate you offering, but this is my mission and my alone. Go back now, I'll come back alive. Don't worry."
"H-Hai my Lord." With an obedient nod, the young man turns and heads back to camp.
Riding his horse through the depths of the forest, the Black Wolf gallops into the night, swallowed by the darkness.
The Temple of Visa
Piercing screams jerk Ryo wide awake as he stares in shock at the flames outside his window. Jumping up from his bed, Ryo quickly dons on his robes and goes in search of his pupils. Running down the halls and ushering people to the exit, the fair-haired man rushes to aid others as he quickly glances around for his students. Shouting their names, Ryo frantically looks for them and is relieved to hear them call his name.
"RYO-SAN!" Both the Temple Maiden and Guardian of the Priest shout as they try to catch their breaths. Gathering to their sides, Ryo questioned them of their healths.
"We're alright...but we must leave, NOW!" Bikky, the Guardian of the Priest shouted as he grabbed the Priest's arms.
Not questioning the young man's motives, the Priest of Visa, the Temple Maiden, and the Guardian all rush out to safety. Running into the
safety of the forests, the three apprentices look at the moon for guidance. Still running, Ryo asks Bikky about the attack.
"Ryo-san, men are after you! They stormed in during the night and lit fire to the Temple in order to cause confusion. They WANT you Ryo, but for reasons unknown!"
"They're after my sight."
Stopping in mid-stride, Ryo looks at Bikky and Carol, causing them to wait for Ryo:
"Ryo-san, what are you doing? They could be on us any minute now!" Carol says terrifyingly as she glances around.
"Bikky-kun, Carol-chan, they're after me." the dark-eyed Priest says bowing his head in shame.
"They shouldn't be involved in this. They're too young."
"Both of you, GO!" Ryo shouts behind him as he starts to head back to the temple, only to be stopped by an armor clad figure. Too late, Bikky and Carol were already unconscious. Apparently, another soldier appeared behind them and attacked them.
"Let them go, they have NOTHING to do with this!" Ryo shouts to the figure behind Bikky and Carol.
"Of course not, Priest of Visa."
The fair-haired man stood his ground as dark eyes met piercing, emerald orbs. Shocked, Ryo takes a step back, only to fall into the arms of the enemy.
