“Dee-senpai, be careful!”

“This damn thing is heavy!”

“JJ where do you want this box?”

“Knick-knacks go in the living room, Ryo.”

“What I want to know is how the hell did we get roped into this?” Ted grumbled.

“Fuck that,” Marty set down a box heavily. “You should worry more about your rep Ted.”

“I am worried about my fucking rep and thank you very much for reminding me!” Ted glared at Drake. “You just couldn't keep it to yourself could you?”

“I think that was the real problem,” Dee grinned bemusedly.

Drake just shrugged, “Get over yourself, Ted.”

“There you are, Drakey-poo we've got a lot of work so no slacking off.”

“Drakey-poo?” Ted snorted a laugh.

“Bite me.”

“Not on a fucking bet.”

“I can't believe you found such an affordable place in this neighborhood,” Ryo said. “You were lucky.”

“Not really,” Drake said. “Unless you say we were lucky that JJ has relatives in real estate.”

“Be careful with that Ted!”

“Sorry, JJ.” Ted continued to grumble, “But I figure you guys owe me. I'll probably never get a date again.”

“You could always swing the other way--,”

“Kiss my ass, Dee.”

“Sorry, I only kiss Ryo's.”

“DEE!”

JJ couldn't help but smile as he watched his friends exchange barbs. If anyone had told him a year ago that he'd be moving into a nice new apartment with his new lover well - he would have probably thought it would be Dee. It hadn't been until he knew Dee was seriously into Ryo that he realized Drake was truly who he'd always been looking for.

He knew Drake was still getting used to the idea of them being together even though it was common knowledge at the precinct. When they'd told the chief about their change in living arrangements he'd just shaken his head and walked away muttering about how it used to be in a police precinct but he didn't say anything else about it.

They'd been spoken to by Commissioner Rose who informed them that they would be expected to carry themselves in a manner befitting police officers. Drake had succinctly told Rose that they would as always and anything else was none of his damn business.

It was the biggest turn on imaginable for JJ and he attacked Drake the moment they returned to their office.

Now as he watched his lover who seemed happier than he had in a long time, JJ could only thank whatever deity was listening for bringing the man into his life.

It took them most of the day to fill their new apartment with boxes and afterwards, they all went out to dinner. Dee and Ryo invited Drake and JJ to accompany them on a gay cruise they were taking in a few months. It was off season so it was cheap and even without the money JJ had they could afford it. Even though Drake hadn't said so, JJ knew why he hadn't wanted to move into his condo. In the past it had been implied that Drake was JJ's little boy toy - a kept man. It was an opinion that JJ corrected with a few choice words. He knew it would take awhile for Drake to be completely comfortable with who he was. JJ didn't mind. He was willing to wait.

It was late when they finally returned to their new home. Both men heaved a sigh when they walked through the door had saw all the work they had ahead of them the next day.

“Well, we're certainly not going to get anything else done tonight,” Drake remarked. They had at least set the bedroom up, something JJ had insisted on.

“Let's just relax,” JJ said. “You want some wine, lover?”

Drake grinned, obviously pleased with the endearment, “Okay.”

While he was in the kitchen, JJ heard Drake's cell phone go off. The conversation was just out of range of JJ's hearing. Along with the wine, JJ laid some caviar, cheese and crackers on a plate and grinned mischievously as he walked back into the living room.

Drake was sitting on one of the boxes. He was staring at his cell phone which he loosely held in his hand.

“Drake?” JJ approached and set the plate and wine glasses on the floor. He squatted down in front of Drake. “Who called?”

Drake smiled slightly, “Frank. He wants to bring Bonnie and the kids over to see our new place.” Then he immediately looked contrite, his cheeks coloring, “I'm sorry JJ.”

“Why are you sorry?”

Drake sighed. “Sometimes I feel like I should hate him more for what he did--,”

JJ placed two fingers to Drake's lips. “No, you shouldn't hate him at all.”

“But--,”

“He's your brother,” JJ gave him a reassuring smile.

“JJ--,” Drake reached out and brushed his fingers across JJ's cheek.

JJ sat down beside him and draped an arm around Drake's shoulders. He gave them an affectionate squeeze and was pleased when Drake smiled.

“So,” JJ said. “What else did you talk about?”

Drake grinned, “The usual stuff.”

JJ grinned in return.

“Good.”

AUTHOR'S AFTERWARD: Secrets came as a complete surprise to me.  Seriously, I never expected to write a full-length Drake and JJ fic.  I wasn't really into the characters until just recently and now, thanks to some very cool Drake and JJ fans (you know who you are!) I'm finding FAKE's second couple to be very fascinating.  Secrets started out as a one shot but decided to run away from me, forcing me to write Drake and JJ's story in earnest.  I plan on writing more concerning this dynamic duo and maybe do one about the vacation cruise with Dee and Ryo if my readers like.  Perhaps Arisa Bryant and Cindy Irving will be sneaked into it since they got such a bad deal in the OVA.

I want to once again thank my friendly neighborhood betas at
lithiumdelusion
and all my readers who took the time to read and comment.  I hope I can continue to entertain you!

See you again!
