The sun sank into the west, casting subdued shades of purple, red and pink over the rolling green landscape. The ephemeral light touched upon stone pillars, black iron-wrought fences, and marbled headpieces, making the setting seem almost calm and peaceful. The warm light heralded the end of the day, basking the world in a final kiss before the chill of the cold silver moon.
A lone figure stepped through the twin spires of stone and twisted metal, moving along the cold pathway with a sorrowful grace. Like the bringer of darkness and Night, the lithe body was clothed in pure black, offset only by the pale complexion and dark silver eyes like the face of the moon herself. A bird whistled in the distance, but the sound did not reach the silent figure, like the sun could not warm the emerald lawn or its occupants.
How cliché, Tyree thought, moving with determination towards her destination. Sad silver orbs passed over the twin markers, signaling the end of her journey. The young girl knelt beside them, a hand placed upon each of the cold headstones; the black fabric of her dress spreading over the patches of freshly turned earth. Metallic gaze rolled over the chiseled scrawl, reading the words that were etched into her mind just as surely as they were etched upon stone. Here rests Kathleen Greer. Loving mother, wife, and friend. May she dance forever in our hearts.
Tyree shivered, whipping at an errant tear that spilled down one pale cheek as she switched her gaze to the other tombstone. Here lies Meilseoir Greer. Detective and father. Died in the line of duty. She missed the second tear that escaped. It cascaded down her flesh, leaving a shimmering trail of salty moisture for others to follow. This was the resting place of her parents, a detective and a dancer.
The shadows grew long, the final salute to the oval disk of flame. The moon, full and bright, sent tendrils of silvery light down upon the earth, bathing the area in an ethereal light. Nothing interrupted the girl from her silent vigil.
