“Drake-senpai?”
Drake took a final drag on the cigarette before crushing it out on the porch railing. His mother hated it when one of her boys did that “Yeah?”
“I'm sorry.”
Drake sighed. “Why? You didn't do anything.”
Drake could well imagine how the young man looked. Eyes wide and pooling with unshed tears, lower-lip caught between his teeth looking so delectable that it made Drake want to devour him.
“Didn't I?”
A pair of loving arms snaked around Drake's middle, squeezing him against a slim form. Then almost immediately he withdrew. “Maybe I shouldn't do this here.”
“Stop it, JJ,” Drake turned to face his lover but his eyes couldn't help but fall on the Victorian style home. He'd grown up here, spent his holidays here and had some of his best times here. Light spilled cheerily from the window illuminating the warm summer night with a hazy golden glow. But the mood was tense within those walls.
“I don't want to come between you and your family.”
“Are you fucking with me Drake? You're gay?”
“No. I'm fucking bi, okay?”
“And you think that's better?”
“It was just my older brother.”
“Just your older brother?” JJ shook his head. “You aren't fooling me, Drake-senpai.”
“If he can't accept you - us - when everyone else can well --,” Not that everyone else had accepted it. For most of the night, before and after Frank's tirade, Drake had been subjected to a shit-load of supposedly well-meaning yet unasked for advice.
“You know how hard it's going to be?”
“What if you lose your job?”
“You know you won't be able to get anything - no benefits - nothing.”
“Is he really worth it?”
Frank had blamed JJ. The things his brother had said to JJ - if two of his other brothers hadn't intervened…
Suddenly Drake had to be away. “Let's go for a walk.”
JJ followed him off the porch and around the house. They strolled down the sidewalk, neither one in a hurry to return to the turmoil. The street was in semi-darkness, illuminated by the intermittent street lights. Very few people were out because of the humidity and for that Drake was glad. It was a good neighborhood and he felt fortunate he'd grown up there.
JJ was uncharacteristically silent. The young man had erected a barrier between the two of them in his stance and the way he looked everywhere but directly at Drake.
“So what is this?” Drake asked. “You saying you don't want me?”
JJ's head snapped around, “Of course not!”
“Well?”
JJ sighed, “Didn't you think I was listening when you told me all those stories about your brother? How you were always watching each other's backs? And how you'd get into trouble together?”
Those times were a part of his life but apparently he hadn't known his brother as well as he thought.
“I just--,” JJ broke off, worrying his lower lip. Looking at him, Drake couldn't stand it anymore.
“Come mere,” he pulled his lover to him and kissed right there under the streetlight not caring who saw and was rewarded by the stupidly happy grin on JJ's face.
“If my family hasn't already set Frank straight--,” Drake sighed. “Look JJ, I need you okay? And that isn't easy for me to say.”
“I know,” JJ said quietly. “I need you too Drake.”
The way JJ said his name. Just Drake. No senpai, no Drakie-poo. A soft whisper that became a verbal caress.
He loved him.
Shit! He felt like he was just sucker punched. He loved Jemmy J. Adams.
He needed another cigarette.
“What are you thinking, Drake?”
No, not yet. “I don't want you to feel like you screwed things up, okay? Frank's an asshole - he's always been that way. I just didn't see it before.” And he hadn't but it still hurt knowing how his brother felt.
They came to the end of the block where an abandoned house stood. Windows haphazardly boarded, weeds grown to chest height. Drake was mildly surprised it was still standing. It had been that way since he was a teenager. He and Frank -
No, he was going to put Frank out of his mind for a little while.
He pulled JJ into the shadows of the house and kissed him again. He had to show JJ how he felt. Drake had to convince him even though he wasn't ready to say the words. It wasn't long before JJ knelt and undid the clasp of Drake's jeans, exposing his erection. JJ licked the bulbous tip of his cock and tasted the salty pre-cum before taking Drake in whole. Drake jammed his fist into his mouth to muffle his cry.
He couldn't stand so he knelt. It was several minutes before either of them moved.
“Better?” JJ said. Some of his cheerful nature had returned. “Are you ready to go back?”
“Yes.”
That he could deal with right now.
