Vejita stirred as light crept around his curtains and onto his body. He turned over in his double-bed to find that his wife was gone. He opened his eyes and waited for them to focus. On his wife's pillow he saw a letter addressed to him. Oh, this can't be good… he thought as he reached out for the letter. He opened the sealed envelope and unfolded the letter inside. He read through the letter twice before it finally sank in. As he read tears shone in his eyes. He tossed the letter on the bed and wrenched clean clothes out of the dresser and yanked them on. He grabbed the letter and flew out his bedroom window towards the Son residence. When Vejita arrived at the Son's house he didn't even bother knocking on the locked door, he just smashed it to the ground. This shattering noise woke up the Son children. Pan, Gohan and Goten had all rushed out of their rooms to find the cause of all the noise. When they saw Vejita they all looked at him curiously. Vejita didn't speak he just walked through the house, heading towards Goku's bedroom. All the Son children stood in the middle of the hallway leading to the bedroom.
“Vejita! What are you doing!?” Gohan yelled.
“Gohan get out of the way, please.” At the word please, Gohan just had to let him past.
That's gotta be the first time Vejita's ever said please to me… something is terribly wrong. The Son Children moved out of the way and let Vejita pass.
Vejita smacked open Goku's bedroom door to see him lying in his double bed ALONE. Vejita shoved Goku's shoulder to try and rouse him; it didn't work. Vejita shoved him again, so forcefully that he pushed him right off of the bed on to the hard wooden floor. Goku opened his eyes slowly before drowsily saying “Why am I on the floor?”
“Get up” Vejita snapped to his rival sprawled out on the floor. Goku rose and stared at Vejita and then his children and Grand daughter. A small frown appeared on the man's brow before he started to speak again. “Vejita, what's this all about?” He looked at Gohan, Goten and Pan behind looking for an answer; they all just shrugged in response.
“Well Goku. Let's see. What is missing from your bed the s'morning?” he asked sarcastically and seriously at the same time.
“Er… well Chi-chi's not here… Where is she?”
Vejita picked up a letter addressed to Goku on the opposite pillow and shoved it in his face. Goku opened the letter anxiously and sat down on the bed to read it. As he read through the letter a look of terror came across his face. Goku went pale and tears started streaming down his face.
“She…She's…gone, but why Vejita? WHY have they done this? How could they!” The poor man started to break down into tears. Vejita looked at the man and actually felt sorry for him. He sat on the bed next to Goku and put his hand on his shoulder. “It's OK Goku. I got a letter just like that this morning. We're both in the same boat here. We'll both get through it.”
Goku looked up at Vejita; his eyes all red and his cheeks discolored by tears. “Do you really think it will be OK Vejita?”
“Of course we'll make it through.”
“But I just don't see why…” Goku started to cry again. Goku flung his head on Vejita's shoulder and tossed the letter on the floor. Vejita did the only thing he could do, he comforted the miserable man.
As Vejita comforted Goku, the Son children picked up the letter that Goku had chucked on the floor and they started to read it. The letter said:

Dear Goku,
This letter is to tell you that I have left home and will not be coming back. Bulma and I have run away together. Why you ask? Because you and Vejita are always dying and leaving us alone, who do you think we turn to when you are gone? Each other. Bulma and I have become very close and have adjusted to living without you, so we have moved away together. You might not ever see me again, but if you do, it won't be for a very long time. Make sure you take good care of the kids because they won't have a mother around to look after them; and knowing what you're like you might just get them blown up in a fight or something.
Maybe I'll see you in a few years. Oh, and it doesn't matter if you die now or not because I won't be their to feel the pain. Not that I would any more…
See ya round Goku!

All the kids had finished reading the letter, all their reactions different. Pan stood still, her hands clasped over her mouth and her eyes wide. Goten stood reading the letter over and over trying to figure it out. Gohan on the other hand, stood pale with rage. Fists clenched so hard his knuckles were white. Eyes screwed shut talking through grinding teeth. His energy was rising with his anger, and his power was flying sky high. Goku and Vejita turned around to look at the boy lightning sparking around him. Goku still sniffling just opened his mouth to talk to his son when all was interrupted by a intense knock on the front door. All of Gohan's rage abruptly dissipated as he wandered along the hall in his boxer shorts. He was closely followed by Goten in shorts and t-shirt, Pan in a large red t-shirt, Vejita in dark jean trousers and a black tank top and Goku in orange trousers his cheeks discoloured and red.
Gohan reached the door and pulled it open curiously to see who was knocking at this hour.
Maybe it's mum, maybe she changed her mind, maybe she's come back to us…
He tugged the door open and standing in the door way was the early morning post man. He looked upon the scene in front of him. Only one of the people in front of him was fully dressed.
“here ya go. I'll need you to sign this.” The post man handed over a small parcel wrapped on brown paper. He held his clip board out to Gohan. Gohan grabbed the ballpoint pen and signed; the postman turned on his heel and left, leaving the group standing with the package. The company trudged into the kitchen and sat around the large wooden table. He package was placed in the middle of the table and they all stared at it.
“Who wants to open it then?” Goten asked the group.
“I will!” chirped Pan. She reached out and brought the package towards her. She gulped and ripped off the paper. Inside there were 5 letters. They were addressed to Goku, Gohan, Goten, Pan and Piccolo. Each of the letters was taken by its recipient and torn open. Goku started to read his aloud:
Dear Son Goku,

It will be a battle royal, with all the contestant going head to head in an all out battle. The four fighters left standing will then have a day to relax before the final battle. All 4 contestants will fight against each other for the final spot. The winner will earn $500,000. On Friday the 14th of June a coach will come and pick you up along with all the other contestants. From here you will all travel to the hotel Grande. Your pass is in the envelope along with the letter.
I hope that you will enjoy the tournament.
Master Rael..

“Cool!” squeaked Goten and Pan at the same time.
“Sounds like fun I guess…”Gohan sighed, not completely forgetting about his mother's betrayal.
“Well I'm definitely going. I never miss an opportunity to fight.” Vejita said giving off his famous smirk.
“Well maybe some fighting will do me good… Vejita? You didn't get a letter about the fight.” Goku said innocently. Vejita frowned and said “If you and your sons have a letter I certainly have one at my home.” Goku thought for a moment. “I guess your right” he replied.
Vejita stood up and walked across to the window. “I guess I better be going home to my letter then” he said smirking once again.
