It seemed like a normal day in Central. Edward Elric, most commonly known as the “Fullmetal Alchemist”, strolled into town. His younger brother, Alphonse Elric, followed. The townspeople had grown accustom to seeing Fullmetal and his brother. Even though their differences were apparent.
Though Alphonse was 15, he was taller than his brother, since his soul was bound to a rather clumsy armor. Al was still the kind-hearted person he always was, even though many were afraid of his appearance.
Edward was 16, and, compared to his brother, his height was apparent. Ed was about 5' 2”, and his blonde hair was in a braid except for his bangs. His red coat had become an all too familiar trademark that everyone knew.
Ed also had what was known as automail. His right arm and left leg were metal. Automail wasn't as uncommon as one may think. People were constantly getting it for one reason or another.
But Ed's reason was forbidden.
Even though he was a State Alchemist, not many knew of what happened. How him and his brother tried to bring their mother back and failed with horrible consequences. Al lost his whole body in the transmutation, and Ed lost his left leg. Ed used his arm in order to bring his brothers soul back and bound it to the armor.
No one knew what state that left Ed in, knowing he had caused all this for his brother. Al didn't even know how bad it troubled him. The only thing everyone knew was how Ed wanted to get their bodies back to normal using the legendary Philosopher's Stone. Ed had read almost every signal book on it and fully believed in its powers and that it existed. Others doubted the stones' existence, but that didn't stop Ed's search.
Colonel Roy Mustang had sent for him. Mustang said he had a special job for Ed. Ed hoped it wasn't another wild lead on the stone. So many times he had been sent on those wild chases after a fake or a misunderstood rumor.
And besides the fact, Ed hated Mustang's guts. They were rivals from the beginning. They couldn't be left alone for too long.
And then there's me. A chimera lost in a world of humans. I was half wolf, half human. I had the wolf ears on the top of my head, and my sweatshirt hood would hide my ears.
Oh, and there was one more thing. The military was after me.
The only reason I knew about Fullmetal was because I had stolen his file. There was one thing we had in common. And that was the fact we were outcasts.
I knew that they would come back sooner or later. Central was where they reported any findings. That Colonel drove Ed crazy; I had overheard one of their quarrels when I was fully human. When I wasn't on the most wanted list. Who knew being different was a crime.
Now I was in a tree overlooking the headquarters. I started thinking back on my life. My story before now was not the happiest for a child. I was tormented from the time I was three.
