Fan Fiction / Yu-Gi-Oh! Fan Fiction / InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Quest to the Gods. ❯ The Sadness and the Solution. ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Hello all. I hope you like this story. I wanted to take my three favourite fantasy stories (LOTR, Yugioh, and Inuyasha and mix them all into one fun filled adventure. This chapter is mostly concerning Inuyasha, but "The Lords of the West" is LOTR (check out the Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien for more info on them) the next chapter is going to be Yugioh.

Warnings: There are none for this chapter, unless you count a funeral grieving period. Later in the story there will be some pairings. Nothing too graphic I think, but we'll see.

Disclaimer: Like everyone else who uses this site, none of the three stories or anything about them belong to me. Though the story itself is mine.

See you after the fic.

Chapter one: The Sadness and the Solution.

Kneeling on the ground, Kagome didn't even care that her knees were covered in dirt and mud from the moist soil beneath her. Her face was also covered in mud and drenched with tears, crying as she faced the earth mound in front of her. Her quivering arms were wrapped loosely around little Shippo who cried softly sitting on her lap. Sango also wrapped a loose arm around Kagome's shoulder for comfort, and Miroku stood silently behind them, hands clasped together in prayer. High above them on a nearby roof top, Inuyasha was perched soundless, watching on with hidden grief. He couldn't believe that the old woman was actually gone. They had been through so many tough times, injuries and hardships, he had always thought that she would never die. But as life would have it, after battling relentlessly against one of Naraku's new accessories, they had returned to Kaede's small village to find her wounded and dead, an innocent victim of Naraku's schemes, and another purpose for Inuyasha's revenge.

"I can't believe she's gone." Kagome whispered that night. They had rested their grieving and retired into Kaede's home. The fire burned brightly and Kagome's tearful eyes could almost visualise the old woman tending to it.

"Are you in a lot of pain, Kagome?" Miroku asked gently, poking the fire. He hadn't known Kaede very well, but he felt Kagome's strong sadness.

"She was like a mother to me, guiding and taking care of me always. And now she's gone." Kagome burst into a new round of tears. Kilala tried to comfort her by nuzzling her leg, and Sango's arm seemed to have not left Kagome's shoulder in hours. Shippo lay sleeping in a corner; it was late at night.

"We will always cherish her memory." Mioga suddenly made himself known as he hopped up on Kagome's unoccupied shoulder. "She was a wise and noble woman and she lived a long life."

Miroku and Sango nodded. "It will be alright Kagome. I will help you through this, as you helped me in my time of trial." She squeezed Kagome's shoulder delicately.

Miroku turned his attention into the shadows of the room where soft breathing could be heard. "You have been very silent Inuyasha. You knew her well, how do you feel?"

A growl came back in reply. "Just gives me another reason to destroy Naraku." He answered as calmly as possible, hiding his face in the darkness.

"I know you must be going through a lot a grief…" The monk tried to console him, he could hear the pain in Inuyasha's voice, but he was cut off.

"…Whatever I'm going through, is none of your business. So lay off." He huffed and fell silent. Miroku chose not to answer.

Kagome slowly lifter her tear-stained face from her hands. She glanced in Inuyasha's direction, starring sadly for a moment. She picked herself up, shrugging away Sango's grip and moved into the shadows. There, Inuyasha was leaning against the wall with his knees drawn up. Kagome sat down beside him and threw her arms around his neck, sobbing into his shoulder. Inuyasha looked down on her with surprise and compassion.

"Don't cry, It'll be okay," he said, desperately trying to console her. She looked up at him, wiping her eyes.

"I know," she said, "but it hurts right now." Inuyasha nodded as she buried her face in his shoulder again. He tightened his embrace around her and her sobs grew less and less.

"Thank you," he whispered, so only she could here. "Are you alright?"

"I will be," she answered, picking herself up again and returning to her spot next to Sango by the fire.

"We will not forget her. But now we should ponder her last words." Miroku threw more wood into the fire.

Without waiting for anyone to question his last remark, Miroku stood and sat further from the flames.

"I was with her when she died. While all of you were in the forest, I was chased away by Naraku's insects. I feared for the lives of the innocent villagers and ran to their aid. When I reached the village, many had already fallen. After disposing of the insects and the few demons terrorising the area, I made my way threw the streets looking for survivors. That's when I came across the Priestess. She lay in a heap of hay, saturated with blood, her broken bow at her side."

Kagome drew in a sharp breath.

"I thought her dead but with a weak voice she called to me. She asked me where Kagome was and if she was safe. I told her you was with Inuyasha and she smiled, coughing a little while blood trickled from her lips. She asked me to say farewell to you. I told her not to worry and that we would avenge her death. She laughed sickly and said we had no hope of destroying Naraku alone and that he grown too strong for any demon. She told me to seek the Lords of the West, and ask their aid. With her last breath she urged me to heed her words. They are the only ones who can destroy him, she said. Then she fell silent and I left her. Still I feel the great sadness that caught in my heart at that moment."

"The Lords of the West? Who are they?" Sango voiced.

"I don't know. We are in the West, and I have never heard of its Lords. Any who are stronger than Naraku that is."

"I know who they are, or I've heard tell of them." Mioga leaped up to Miroku's shoulder.

"You know what the Priestess spoke of? Are they close?"

"I only know of them, and the Lady Kaede spoke not of the West of our country, but the true west. West of the inner sea and across the land beyond. Where no demons live or can get to."

They all stared silently at Mioga as the old flea continued; even Inuyasha moved closer to hear.

"I have lived a long time and I remember when demons first came out the west, fleeing the Lords' wrath. Only the smart ones such as your ancestors, Inuyasha, came here, instead of being banished to the dark void beyond. After they came they say a great barrier was made to keep all demons from escaping this land, and now the western lands have been made clean of all demons, great and small. That's why they are all here."

"How do you know all this? You're just a flea!" Inuyasha probed anxiety in his voice.

"Ah, but an old flea, Lord Inuyasha. I know because I was told. I listened to all that was going on around me in those days, and I learned much. Now the Lady wishes for you to seek the very Lords who banished away all demons to this Isle."

"Banished? Why would they banish demons?" Inuyasha pondered out loud.

"Because they are destructive and dangerous. I've been defending humanity from evil demons since I can remember. But why would they banish the demons here?" Sango said.

"Not all demons are evil." Inuyasha pointed out.

"They were back then. Demons were only the tools of the dark powers, it is said. But they developed into beings of their own. Or at least, some of them did." Mioga nodded at his own remark.

"But why here? The Lords were probably protecting their own lands from the demons. Why should they help us if they send them here?" Miroku said.

"In those days there were no humans living here. From what I hear, the Lords were protecting the humans in the Western lands. Perhaps we are out of their sights, but they should help us if we so asked. No demon was ever meant to be as strong as Naraku." Said Mioga.

"Mioga, just what are these Lords anyway. Are they demons or humans or what?" Inuyasha asked impatiently.

"I don't know. They are not demons because they say the demons were created by the dark powers. They are not human either. I guess one could say they are Gods. They govern their own land and protect it."

"That sounds nice." Sango said.

"What do you mean demons were created by the dark powers? I'm not evil, neither is Shippo or lots of other demons we've come across." Inuyasha barked.

"It's a mystery as to why there are good demons today, like fox demons, and not thousands of years ago. In the beginning, it is said that demons were all merciless killers. Much like your true demon form, Lord Inuyasha."

Inuyasha growled again but said nothing.

"From what I've heard, the power of the Lords could strip Naraku of his power, forever. If we obtained their help, they would set things straight."

"Mioga, has anyone ever tried anything like this before?" Kagome said finally after much silence.

"I don't know. It's safe to assume that someone did when demons were first created."

"And how far is it to their home in the West?"

"A long travel I'm afraid. Across thousands of miles and months of travelling."

"Sounds like fun." Inuyasha added.

"Kilala could take us and it would be much faster that way." Sango suggested, picking up Kilala and stroking her back.

"Demons are not permitted west of the Inner sea. I've seen the barrier, it literally blocks any demon from entering the western lands." Mioga sighed. "That means that little Shippo could not come with you."

"And what about me?" Inuyasha stood up.

"You have human blood in you. You would be permitted." Miroku stated. "I've seen this barrier before as well Mioga. It is a strong, ancient magic of which I've never seen. If it was indeed made by the Lords, then they must be strong. Strong enough to beat Naraku."

"So this is a quest. Are we going then?" Sango asked.

"It might be the only way of defeating Naraku for good." Whispered Kagome.

"Then we have got some planning to do. We can't depend on food and shelter while we tread through unknown lands. We may not have roads or villages to go by." Miroku put in.

"I think I can help with that." Kagome's voice suddenly got stronger. The idea of getting that much closer to revenge was strengthening her mood.

"I can get us all food light enough to travel with, plus I can get a compass…" everyone stared at her, "…a little machine that tells you were you're going, and a map of all the outer lands. In my time there are billions of people in that region across the sea. It's called China. Then the middle-East, then Europe. Europe is the western most area, I guess that's where we're going."

"When should we leave?" Sango asked.

"I have an idea…" Kagome voiced. "After crying for three days straight, I'm sick of grieving. I want to get my mind off my sadness. Tomorrow nights a full moon, Inuyasha."

"So…" Inuyasha said, not liking being reminded.

"So you all can come into my time for the night. We can stock up on supplies for our journey and then have some fun before the months of exhausting travel. You'll be human after all, Inuyasha. We can go out dancing and get some junk food, and just let loose for one night." The others just stared at her.

"I don't know, Kagome…what if we don't fit in?" Miroku said.

"No worries. You'll love it. I can get you all some normal clothes and you can forget who you are and the burdens you carry for one night. We can go to clubs and just dance the night away. I do that sometimes if life gets too tough. I can even make up fake identities for the night. It'll be fun." She wiped a stray tear away from her jaw.

"I sounds like fun Kagome. I'll come."

"Thanks Sango. Well Inuyasha, you've been in my time before, what do you say?"

"I'm in, but only because I'll be human and thus weak and it's safer in your time."

"Miroku?"

"I still don't know. I'm afraid of my wind tunnel. Moreover, about going into the future. My old master said it was a dangerous thing, time travel."

"There will be tons of beautiful women, Miroku…hundreds of them." Kagome through a sidelong glance at Sango, who wore a stiff smile at her remark.

"All right, I guess one night couldn't hurt. Though I'll probably end up eating my own words. I'll go."

"Great, now I'm going to bed. We'll have to tell Shippo we're leaving, in the morning. Mioga? You'll stay here while we're gone and keep Shippo company. He can't come into my time, he looks too much like a demon." Kagome actually smiled, despite herself. Her spirits had risen and she was excited about bringing her friends home with her. Only a little pang of guilt about Kaede kept poking her. As she lay down to go to sleep, she said a silent prayer for Kaede's soul, then fell asleep.

Well, what say? Do you like where this is going? I do. See you (I hope) for the next chapter, it's going to incorporate Yugioh into the plot. So stick around. I've no idea what day it'll be up, but it'll be soon. I really, really like this story. Review please, for my ego. I need a little encouragement.
