Chapter 1: I'm Not Afraid of the Darkness
Cold wind gently blew across a giant park in Tokyo, Japan. It was empty, except for the few
teenaged humans that strolled through the park in contentment--obviously ignoring their curfews for this late night, because magic was in the air, and it would not let them go, no matter how hard they struggled.
At the very center of the park, in a gigantic oak tree, a small black-cloaked figure, on the biggest, strongest branch, sat. The youth's eyes were a crimson red, or even closer to a garnet color. They seemed full of wisdom, yet strangely, innocence as well.
'Pathetic,' he thought, watching the calm and happy human teens.'They should not be here, stupid humans, not knowing when to go inside for the cold weather,' He snorted. It seemed just like those humans, meddleing in a place where they did not belong.
The full moon shone brightly, and Hiei's eyes slowly drifted shut, his mind still actively sulking because of the humans. The wind gently caressed his cheek, blowing some long, spikey hair away from his face, showing a white bandanna. He slowly drifted into dreamland, not knowing how much he would regret it later...
He slept, unknowing, uncareing, about the fate that was just about to unravel..the new pain that would show its face..

I stood in a dark, cold alleyway, scowling as I always did, to hide my confusion.'Where the hell am I?' I thought, my scowl becoming more pronounced. I decided it might be worth my time to explore this strange, dark, alleyway.
As I walked by a gigantic rusted sign, I did not bother to look at it--It was just human writing, right? How signifigant could it be to my quest? If I had bothered to look closer, I would have seen two words that I regret to mention even now.
'Welcome to Elm Street.'
I examined my surroundings, raiseing an eyebrow slightly in confusion.'There are no humans here..' I thought, quickly becoming on edge. This seemed to be the human realm, considering the human-like buildings around.
Quickly I came to a dead end, wrinkling my nose in disgust at the rotting smell of decayng, or even burning flesh. It was a scent that I knew well, for half of Makai was completly filled with this scent, as normal as those 'Fast Food' Resteraunts that made the Human Realm seem even more strange.
'A dead end, or another way entirely?' I thought, allowing a smirk to cross my lips briefly. Eerie singing made its way to my ears, and I involentarily shivered because of the shrill, yet child-like tones.
1, 2 Freddie's comin' for you...
3,4 better lock your door...
5,6 grab your crucifix....
7,8 better stay up late....
9, 10 never sleep again...
I raised an eyebrow once again at the strange lyrics to this song. 'Hn, This is pathetic,' I thought, inwardly berating myself for becoming on edge over children!
But, no matter how much I did not wish to admit it, I became more on edge as the mysterious song continued to repeat itself.
Shifting my gaze from the children, I looked at the run-down old house in front of me. Once again, I snorted."Hn," I muttered outloud, very thoughtful to my current situation.
With a loud creak sounding very much like vengeful spirits, the old door swung open, exposeing a strange worm-like creature. My eyes widened, as it grabbed me in its mouth! "LET GO OF ME!" I yelled, beginning to cover my body in fire.
Before I was even close to beginning the process of raiseing my Ki, I was dragged inside the house, hitting the side of my head on the old, but hard, wooden door. My body slumped, and my eyes closed. Muttering curses, I slowly left the consious world...
I was floating, my body feeling as though I was made of nothing. I felt a smile come upon my lips at the unknown feeling of bliss. The feeling did not last long, however, as I felt immense pain upon my stomache. My eyes jerked open, and I wearily glanced at my surroundings.
The boil room in which I was held captive was hot, I could see that, but I did not mind. Being a fire apparition, (I usually ignored the Koorime part of me,) the heat did not bother me, it was welcomed.
Kind, emerald eyes blinked up at me from my place on the ground.
"Hiei?" Kurama, my old 'friend' (more of an ally,) questioned. His eyes seemed to sparkle with amusement, as they often did.
"Hn," I replied, scowling, but wobbily getting up to my feet. The blow to my head hurt, even I had to admit it.
"I thought you were going to remain asleep for a little while longer," Kurama continued, smiling one of his gentle smiles.
"No one predicts my actions," I shot back, though not as harsh as I normally would speak, like to the Detective or the Fool.
The fox laughed."Maybe, so, but I can, more than you can tell," he said, with kitsune amusement in his eyes as of now.
"Cut the crap, fox.Where the hell are we?" I demanded, now very suspicious of the normal calm kitsune's actions, and personality. Something about him seemed to be 'off', even his scent was different. Stranger, older.
"Now, Now, Hiei. Don't be a curious Fox," 'Kurama', replied to my question, brushing it off entirely.
"Your not Kurama," I spat, jumping back and unsheatheing my trusty katana.
An evil smirk transformed the face of my normally kind, [unless you anger him in any way,] ally. I growled deeply, very uneased."Who are you!?" I demanded, watching the hidious transformation begin.
The red hair I knew so well, disappeared and was replaced with an ugly brown hat.
His skin molded, and shaped itself into horribly burnt and scarred flesh that, even I, who has caused so much blood and burns, grimanced at.
His eyes turnt black and cold.
His clothes changed from a maroon school uniform, into a dirty and torn red and green sweater, then his pants turned into brown plain pants.
The most horrible, even terrifying change, [besides the skin--that was disgusting!], was his right hand. A glove had appeared, about the same time as his face had warped and molded. It had 4, claws. 'Almost demon-like,' I admitted bitterly in my mind.
"I don't have to reveal my identity just yet, Hiei." The human, said to me.
"Hn," I scowled, my hold on my katana tightening ever so slightly, completly ready and willing to chop off this, thing's, head right off.
"Cat have your tongue, shorty?" he asked, with a grin, making the evil features of his face stand out.
I growled, longer and deeper than last time.Though, I did not honor him with a reply.
He just stood there after that, watching me.
"Die," I spat, running my full speed to him, and in one quick move, severed his head from his neck. Blood splattered my clothes, as I stood, drenched in it.
The body fell over, very much dead, and headless. I smirked, exposeing a fang. I sheathed my very bloody katana, and began to walk away.'That was a bit..too easy..' I noted, but thought nothing else of it.
As I came closer to the door, I felt pressure on my ankle, making me almost lose my balance.Almost.
"Eye for an eye, your life for my head," The strange man said, trying once again to send me flying.
"I would let go, before I rip off more body parts, human," I growled, beginning to raise my body heat.
"Havn't you gotten it yet, shorty?" he taunted me, making me go even more angry.[A/n: You won't like me when I am angry..*eyes flash green* XD]"you cannot hurt me..in my own realm!" He laughed, long and cruel.
"What!?" I exclaimed, my eyes wide, my guard down for the moment.
"This is a dream, dumbass. Or should I say, dumb bitch?" The man teased once again.
I growled, then unsheathed my katana in a quick instant...
That he did not seem to miss.
I brought my katana down quickly, aiming for his hands, especially the hand with the claws. [his right,]
My katana missed, as he moved his hands, and disappeared into the wall!
Instead, the katana had slashed my ankles, forceing dark red blood to pump out freely, drenching both of my pant legs, and even dripping on and into my black boots.
I grimanced, but took it."Come out, fool!" I yelled, now irritated, in pain, and just annoyed at the whole situation entirely.
Instead of a reply, I got the song instead..the song I was beginning to loathe..
Slightly.
Just slightly...
1, 2 Freddie's comin' for you...
I quickly ran throughout the room with my speed, dodgeing blows that seemed to come out of nowhere...
3, 4 Better lock your door.....
As I caught sight of the man I now knew as 'Freddie,' my breathe caught in my chest. The next thing I knew, I was back up against a hard, metal door of the Boilder Room.
5, 6 Grab your crucifix...
My lungs seem to collapse...and I grew even more angry.
7, 8 Better stay up late...
I ran at the loathesome man, my fists covered with fire. He quickly dodged, grabbbed my fists, and turned my punch against me. I spat up blood, right at his face, growling even more. He pushed me up against the wall, and with a sneer, said, "I will let you go...for now..."
Then I disappeared from the realm..reappearing in the same tree I was in before all of that had happened.
The last part of the song was still fresh, in my mind.
"Nine, Ten...Never sleep again..."
