It was too muggy to do anything so I sit down on the rickety white chair that Alex had painted last year the paint was chipping off already. I watch as Lee and Alex go chasing each other through the water that looks like fog. "Hey Jack! Heads up!" I look up to see a blue bucket of water dumped on my head it soaks through my tank top and shorts. "Ryo! Come back here!" I call out to my friend as I get up.
"Come and get me." Ryo retorts. I chase him into the water, the water feels like ice. I shiver but still follow Ryo. I tackle him down into the water but I am quickly overpowered as I find myself underwater. The water is moving faster as I faintly realize that we are both caught in the bone crunching current. Ryo was able to kick and fight against the tugging water; his profile was definitely that of a swimmer tan and orange like a fading peach.
I wish I was strong like Ryo. My lithe arms, however, were not intended to battle the current that began to drag me down stream. I suddenly thought of that physical education class I took and how I lied and cheated my way out of swimming on swim day. I felt that I didn't need to display my horrible freestyle attempts to the rest of the class. Especially any member of the 'Red Dragons' mainly Hiro, Shin, and Yu. I'd get beat up by them for not knowing how to swim...but wait I'd get beat up anyway.
I wished that this would take a turn for the better. The bone chilling water surged through my body as I became increasingly immobile. I tried to scream but only a small squeak escaped my numb lips. I no longer possessed even the strength to flail my arms as I feel my limp, lifeless body begin to sink like a rock to the floor of the river. I looked around me I saw a school of rainbow-colored fish, rocks, and seaweed all not caring that I was falling to my death.
So I wasn't exactly 'falling' but I think you get the picture. Then, just as soon as I had lost all hope. I see a hand reach down through the fog and violently churning water. I then thought of my friends Hoshi, Elyse, Alex, Lee, Blade, and my closest friend Ryo. Weakly I grabbed the hand after what seemed like an entirnity. The hand held mine and another equally strong one grabbed the soaked and ruffled blue fabric of my tank top.
I feel myself pulled out of the water and into someone's strong arms. I faintly recognize the smell of the wind just before a storm. I can feel tears fall onto my face. That's when it hits me like a big toaster. And yes I know what being hit with a big toaster feels like. It was Ryo holding onto to me and crying. I weakly return the embrace to let him know that I'm okay. Suddenly I am face-to-face with him. "Oh god Jack! I thought you were gone." Ryo says as he wipes the tears from his eyes. "I'm fine Ryo...please don't cry." I say to him. I hate making him cry. "Thank you for saving me..." I say I am beginning to feel a little weaker and more tired.
"We'll go inside okay?" Ryo says as he picks me up and cradles me to his chest. I hate being babied...but I guess I'll have to deal with that ne? I am so tired and it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep my eyes open. So I finally succumb to sleep and fall asleep against Ryo.
