A New Journey
Chapter 1: A Hero's Return
The sun just began to creep up over the horizon as a horse is seen galloping across the Hyrulean plain. Its destination is unknown to all except it's master.
The brownish- red horse continues to gallop to a fallen tree where a young man sits with a blue egg-like instrument in his hand.
The horse slows to a stop in front of this man to allow him to climb on.
The man puts his instrument into his carefully concealed pack and climbs on the horse revealing a sword strapped to his back.
Before he starts his ride, he reaches up and removes his green hat revealing a head of blonde hair. He takes his hat and places it into his pack as well. Then, he pats the horse's head.
"Ya!" he yells hitting his feet on the horse's side. The horse starts galloping.
The pair head towards the market as the drawbridge begins to go down, but as the horse is about to reach the bridge the man has the horse turn. The horse turns and starts to head to Kakariko Village.
The horse slows to a stop as they reach the stairs to the village and the man gets off. He pats the horse's head and points to the ranch. The horse nays and takes off toward the ranch. The man then turns and climbs up the stairs to the village.
As the man enters the village, he notices that the villagers are just waking up. So he reaches into his pack and grabs his hat. He puts it on and starts to walk toward Death Mountain.
A guard is standing by the open gate to the mountain. "Good Morning, Link," he says as the man walks by.
"Good Morning," Link replies.
Link enters Death Mountain Trail and starts to follow it. As he walked, he remembered all the journeys he had in which he had to take the trail.
When he got to the fork, he chose not to climb up, but to go down. He followed the down trail to a large opening and went inside.
Once inside, Link was greeted by a Goron who informed him that Darunia was in his room. Link thanked the Goron and continued down to the bottom of Goron City. Then, he entered the room at the farthest end.
"It is good to see you again, brother," Darunia said when Link walked in.
"It is good to see you as well," Link replied.
"I was worried that something had happened to you."
I haven't been gone that long."
"Still, we don't want to find out that Hyrule's greatest hero had gone and gotten himself killed."
"Well, you can plainly see that I'm in much better shape than I was last time."
"That's true."
"Besides, this time I wasn't getting rid of Ganondorf's followers."
"You're right."
"At least this time I wasn't saving Zelda either."
"Speaking of which, don't you need to go see her?"
"Yes, I do. I just don't want to."
"Why not?"
"Because we both know that she'll make this big fuss about me being back and I'll have to go to some lame party in my honor."
"Why don't you delay seeing her by visiting your friends?"
"That's what I'm planning on doing."
"In that case, you best be going."
"You're right. See you later Darunia," Link said as he left.
"Bye, brother," Darunia called.
Instead of leaving the way he same way he came in., Link decided to take a different path. He entered the path and emerged in the Lost Woods. Link walked through the woods admiring the scenery as he made his way to The Sacred Forest Meadow.
Once he entered the meadow, he made his way through the maze and to a staircase. He climbed the stairs to a large opening. Then, Link took out his instrument and started to play it.
At the far end of the opening, sat a small girl with green hair. She was playing the same instrument as Link until she heard him playing.
She jumped up from the tree stump that she sat at and ran over to Link. "Link," she yells. "It's so good to see you!"
Link puts his instrument away. "It's good to see you too Saria," Link says smiling. Saria stops right in front of Link. Link bends down and they give each other a big hug.
When they let go, they started walking through the meadow toward the Lost Woods. "You've gotten better at playing your ocarina," Saria said.
"Not really," Link replied.
"Well, it sounded better. How was your trip?"
"It was good. I enjoyed it."
"At least you're not on crutches this time."
"I suppose I was more careful this time."
"You careful? Don't make me laugh."
"Okay… I was lucky."
"That sounds more like you."
"Anyway, how are the Kokiri?"
"They are well. Mido is still mad at you though."
"Nothing new."
"How's Epona?"
"She's fine. She's getting faster by the day."
"That's always a good thing." They stopped walking. They had just reached the entrance to the Lost Woods. "I'll let you go on alone from here," Saria said.
"Alright."
"You're not leaving again anytime soon are you?"
"When I leave, you'll be the first one I tell," Link said smiling at her.
"Ok, see you later."
"Bye, Saria," Link said as he reentered the Lost Woods.
He walked through some of the Lost Woods before diving into some water and going through a hidden passage at the bottom.
When he went up for air, he found himself at Zora River. He climbed out of the water and walked over to the waterfall. Then, Link pulled out his ocarina and played the song of the royal family on it. The waterfall opened up to reveal a passage. Link jumped to it and entered Zora's Domain.
Link immediately went up to the King's Chamber upon entering the domain. He figured that the Zora princess, Ruto, would be there.
"Welcome, Link," King Zora said upon Link entering the chamber.
"Hello, King Zora," Link replied. "Where is Ruto today?"
"Ruto is at the Lake," King Zora said.
"Thank you," Link said walking to the area for the diving game.
Link walked to the edge of the waterfall and dived off of it. Then, he went through the passage at the bottom of the water.
When he emerged out of the water, he was at the lake. He climbed out of the water.
"Link, is that you?" a female voice said from behind him.
Link turned around and found himself face to face with a zora. "Ruto, it's good to see you," he said calmly.
"Link, it is you." Ruto said giving Link a big hug. "I thought you weren't due back until tomorrow."
"I got back early."
"Your trip must have been a bad one then."
"No, it was a good one. It just didn't take me as long to get back as I thought it would."
"Well, I'm glad you're back."
"I'm glad to be back."
"Well, I have a lot of things to do so I need to get back to the domain."
"Alright. See you later then."
"Bye, Link," Ruto said diving into the water.
"Bye, Ruto," Link said walking to the lake's entrance.
`I still need to see Nabooru,' Link thought as he walked into the field and toward Gerudo Valley. As he entered the valley, he flashed his membership card to the guard. Then, he proceeded to the fortress.
Link walked up the stairs inside Gerudo Fortress. Then, he looked for Nabooru. He spotted the red-headed Gerudo talking with one of the guards. The guard then nodded and went back to her post. Nabooru shook her head. Link walked over to her.
"Hey," he said. Nabooru turned around.
"Well, if it isn't the kid," Nabooru said. "How ya been?"
"Same as always," Link said shrugging.
"I know what you mean."
"How's everything going around here?"
"Fine, as always."
"Guess I should have known."
"I take it your trip went well."
"Of course it did. I'm in one piece aren't I?" Link said spinning.
Nabooru laughed. "I guess you are." Then, a gerudo came up to Nabooru and whispered something in her ear. "Listen, I have to go take care of something so, I'll see you some other time Link."
"Alright."
"Bye, kid," Nabooru said walking to the opening of one of the many rooms.
"Bye, Nab," Link said before turning back toward the stairs.
Once Link had left the fortress, he pulled out his ocarina and called Epona. Epona came to him. He mounted her then left.
`I might as well go and see Zelda now,' Link thought as he turned Epona toward the castle. `It should be interesting to see her reaction when I walk in.'
