Fan Fiction ❯ A Quest For Love ❯ The Lover's Meet ( Chapter 1 )
Chapter One: The Lover's Meet
Cornel had wandered aimlessly into the town of Eilonwy. He had nothing to do, as usual, and was looking for nothing in particular. His grey hair shone in the December sun. He sighed as he walked about, the people giving him strange looks. He didn't blame them. He did look a bit strange. Grey hair with light blue streaks, one sapphire blue eye, and one that was sterling silver. His skin was extremely pale. Although, through all this, his face was that of a cute teenaged boy. On the left side of his jaw line, there were three permanent scars from a run in he'd had with a wolf. He was 5' 10", and had just enough muscles. To top it all off, he was half-elf. So his ears weren't normal, either. He was 19 now, the age of manhood for half-elves. The age where one was to be married. But he had no wife, and never thought he would. 'Someone in love with me? Ha, yeah... right. Like anyone could ever even like a mutt like me!'
Meanwhile, a petite girl had come to Eilonwy in search of a weapons' master. She had long, deep purple hair and hazel eyes. She was maybe 5' 5", and quite shapely. Human, though her father was a God. A FireMage from schooling she had taken in MageCity after she had run away from home, Jenna was quite the pretty one. It had been her 16th birthday a month or so ago, and her father had given her a strange sword. She had to know what it was before she touched it. She stopped and asked a few people for directions, and then she found the shop. A man with dragon wings stood behind the counter and smiled at her as she walked inside.
"Can I help you, miss?"
She smiled and approached him. "Yes, sir..." Her british accent made her voice even more beautiful than it already was. She reached behind her and pulled out something all wrapped in brown paper. "I was wondering if you could tell me what this sword is. Me dad gave it to me for me birthday, but I think he gave me the wrong one."
He unwrapped the sword and examined it carefully. "This is one of the rare Wetblade's, miss. Only four of them in the world! You're one lucky girl!"
She got a frustrated look on her face. "Lucky, indeed! Ugh, if me dad payed attention every now and then, he might actually know that I'm a FireMage! I can't touch the thing!" She wrapped the sword back up and put it away behind her. She smiled at the man. "Thank you, anyway." She walked toward the door and added, before she left: "If you value your life, be out of here by sunset!"
Cornel had been outside the shop, kicking a rock. His extra sensitive hearing had picked up the last thing she said. He stood outside in an alley next to the shop, hiding in the shadows, listening intently. 'Well, could this actually be something worth my time...?'
"What was that, miss?"
She turned back around to the weapon's master. "I said, 'If you value your life, be out of here by sunset'. A cursed Djinn will be attacking this village at sunset, and your town is little match for it."
"Well, I could surely kill it."
She sighed and rolled her eyes. "Sure you could. Just ignore the fact that it has destroyed five villages before this one, leaving nothing but rubble behind. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to warn the next village." She went outside, annoyed. 'Killa Djinn? What a stupid man...'
Cornel smiled a little bit. He thought aloud: "Hmm. Whatever this 'Djinn' is sounds a bit like me..." He peeked around the corner and saw her walk down the path, heading out of the village. His eyes sparkled. 'Wow... She's pretty... D'oh, what am I thinking?! I've got to find out more about this 'Djinn' thingy!'
The Weapon Master had gone on break and come out of the shop. He looked to his right and saw Cornel peering out. He saw the mischevious smile on Cornel's face and backed him up against a wall. "What are you doing...?"
Cornel's silver eye sparkled with mischeif. "Just listening to the conversation you were having with the young lady. It sounded interesting and I thought I might like to know more."
"I've killed people for eavesdropping."
"Well now, aren't you the pleasant one? As much as I'd love to stay, because as lovely as dying sounds, I have to follow her and find out more. So... BYE!" Cornel kicked the man off and ran after Jenna.
Jenna had been walking down the road to the next town, talking to something that appeared not to be there. "Are you sure this is the way?"
"Yes, this is where my brother said he'd be coming from!"
"Why is he attacking, anyway?"
"Remember? The Dark Lord placed a curse on him, controlling his mind. You told that stupid weapon master about it."
"Oh yeah."
Cornel caught up to her, panting. He had run the whole way. " 'Scuse me... but what was that about a Djinn whatsamacallit?"
'A cute boy... What a miracle!' "It's called a Djinn..." She said, with a slight giggle. She then lied: "A-And that's about all I know about it, except that it's attacking at sundown."
He looked at her in disbelief. "And... that's all you know?"
"Yes," She said quickly.
He sighed. "Well, I'll just have to take care of it, then." He turned on his heel and started to walk away.
She called after him: "But don't try to kill it!"
"I can't promise anything, love!"
"Please, it's not the Djinn's fault! It's cursed!"
He turned back around and walked back towards her, smiling. "Now we're gettin' somewhere!" He stood in front of her, grinning. "I want you to tell me everything you know about this... thing."
She sighed and looked around nervously. A Djinn appeared on her shoulder & Jenna pointed to Cornel. "Tell him everything you know about this."
"First and foremost: A Djinn cannot be killed. It's impossible. Now, a Dark Lord has put a curse on all the Djinn's in the world. And there are a lot of Djinn's. My brother is the one who is leading the attacks. I'm not allowed to tell you anymore. Sorry."
The Djinn went back inside her. She had been looking at Cornel, who was looking at the Djinn.
He turned to Jenna. "So who's the brother?"
There was a loud rumbling noise and the ground the ground shook. The loud noise could be defined as hoofbeats of horses.
"You're about to find out!"
An army of some sort came up the path. It was like a group of soldiers, but the expressions on their faces were blank.
Jenna took out her wand.
Cornel began to transform. He was very muscular now, and long, shaggy grey fur grew all over his body. He grew a long tail, paint dipped white. His shirt had torn completely off. His pants tore a bit as well as he smiled with his long, white snout. Yes, the reason his hair was grey was because he was a werewolf. "Play time!"
Jenna pointed her wand at them and shouted at the army: "Curse removal!!!"
The men turned back to normal and looked around. Confused, they galloped off.
Cornel looked quite dissapointed and turned back into himself. "That was it...?"
She turned around to him. "Yeah. I've never tried that before, actually." She smiled and stuck out a hand for him to shake. "I'm Jenna. Jenna Mezzanine. A FireMage."
He shook her hand happily. "I'm Cornel, a..." He hesitated a bit, but finally said: "...Werewolf."
She looked a bit surprised, but still smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Cornel!"
"Same here!" He smiled cheerfully. That was the first time a human hadn't run when he told them he was a werewolf. He took the pack from off his back and searched through it. He found another shirt and put it on.
She reached behind her and pulled out the Wetblade. She handed it to Cornel. "Here. I can't use this. Me dad gave it to me for me birthday, but I'm a FireMage. If I touch it, I'll die."
"Die?! That's a bit extreme, don't you think?!"
"Well, it's in the laws of the FireMage."
"Laws are stupid. Meant to be broken, I say."
"Even if they'll kill you?"
"Well... no, I s'pose not... Who invented that law, anyway?!"
"The Gods, of course."
"Gods... feh. Thanks to the Gods, I'm like this! I've got a damn curse on me!"
She looked at him, confused. "What curse...?"
"Well I wasn't born a werewolf, ya know."
"Oh." She said quietly.
He smiled. He noticed that the Wetblade tingled underneath his fingers. "Well, anyway, would you like some help in defeating this Dark Lord of yours? I've got nothing better to do..."
Her eyes lit up in appreciation. "Oh, would you?!"
He shrugged. "Sure, whatever..."
She smiled and took his hand to be sure he didn't fall behind. "C'mon, lets go then!" She began to run, Cornel running with her.
He blushed, his cheeks turning bright pink. 'Am I blushing? God, I hope not...! Oh, why did she have to take my hand?!' He looked a incredibly nervous.
She looked over at him, and seeing the look on his face, asked: "What's wrong?"
"Nothing!" His body betrayed him and his voice got squeaky when he answered her. 'My goodness, do I like her that much...?! Of course not, I barely know her!'
"Are you sure?"
"Yes...!" His voice was still squeaky.
She eyed him suspiciously. "All right, then..." She ran with him to the town of Vale. She let go of his hand and ran into the sanctum. "Father!"
An old man appeared and Jenna ran to hug him. They embraced eachother as Cornel entered the sanctum.
He looked around the large building. 'Dang, this place is friggin' huge!' He walked over next to Jenna with a nervous smile.'Step one: Win the parents over! Wait a minute- Win the parents over? What the Hell is wrong with me today?'
Jenna's Dad: "Who's your friend, Jenna?"
"This is Cornel. He's going to help me in my quest!" She turned to Cornel. "Cornel, this is me Dad. He's a god."
'GOD?!?! OH NO!!! I'M DOOMED!' He put on another nervous smile. "Nice to meet you."
Jenna then got a disgruntled look on her face. "I almost forgot... Father, you gave me a Wetblade for me birthday! I'm a FireMage, ya know! I can't use it! But I gave it to Cornel & he doesn't seem to have a problem with it..."
Jenna's Dad: "Well, at least you found some use for that old sword!"
"Ehrm, I don't mean to interupt, but what does it mean when your hands get all tingly when you hold it...?"
Jenna smiled brightly. "That means it's meant for you, Cornel."
Jenna's Dad: "Good! Now, where are you two off to?"
"We're going to go warn the next town of the cursed Djinn."
Jenna's Dad: "Well, I suppose you'll both need some pegasus, then?"
Cornel looked even more nervous. "No! No pegasus! They don't like me! Can we just run...? Running's good...!"
Jenna laughed. "I think we'll be running, Dad."
Jenna's Dad: "All right then. Be careful, you two!"
"We will!"
Jenna and Cornel left the sanctum. Jenna smiled at Cornel and took his hand again as they began to run.
Almost as if it was a reflex, his cheeks turned that same bright pink as he ran with her hand in hand.
They had run for 10 minutes or so when she looked at him, still seeing that nervous expression on his face. She stopped again and looked him in the eyes. "Cornel, tell me what's wrong!"
He looked everywhere but at her. "Nothing, I told you...!" His voice was squeaky again.
"You don't have to lie to me. Now what is wrong?!"
"D-Don't we need to get to work on the Djinn...?"
"They can wait. Tell me..." She said this in a gentle, comforting tone.
"Well... I- I- er- well..." He leaned in and kissed her. He pulled away quickly, his cheeks now bright red with embarassment.
Jenna blushed as well. She felt like she was going to melt inside. She would have returned his kiss, but he had pulled away too quickly. Now the shock had sunk in. "W-What was that...?!"
"I- I- Nothing, I- I'm sorry..."
She said softly: "Don't be. They're your feelings, you shouldn't be ashamed."
He stuttered a bit, his cheeks still red. Feeling like a complete idiot, he ran. Ran away from her as fast as he could. When he kissed her, ther was a burning inside of him that he didn't understand. 'Ohhh... she's probably got some macho boyfriend who's gonna smush me like a cockroach! Or worse, a husband! I'm doomed! And what was that sensation that came over me?! It doesn't matter, she knows I'm a werewolf, she'd never like me anyway!' He ran until he got to the next town. A bat flew over to him and landed on his shoulder. He looked up at the sky. He hadn't even realized that it was dark out. He then looked at the bat. "Ohh... Aya, I really screwed up this time..." He made his way to a tavern, and went inside.
Meanwhile, Jenna had been walkng slowly up the road, her fingers on her lips. They still tingled from Cornel's kiss. 'Why the hell do I feel like this...? I've been kissed before! This should be nothing! It's just a little crush he has! Does this mean I like him, too...? No, can't be... he probably bewitched me! But the way his lips felt... so soft... and warm... No! Jenna, stop thinking about that! You have to find him so you can beat the Dark Lord!' She walked faster, wanting- and surprisingly needing- to find Cornel.
