Chapter Three: A Pleasant (And One Not-So-Pleasant) Surprise

Jenna awoke early the next morning, feeling nautious. She knew she was going to throw up. 'IS THIS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN?!?!' She leapt out of bed and looked all over for something. She found a bucket by the door and carried it with her as she ran to the bathroom. She leaned over the toilet (A/N: Actually, whatever they used as one in mideval times, since they did not have indoor plumbing ^^), vomiting.

Cornel had woken up shortly after, feeling empty without her body warmth. He looked around and heard the wretching noise from the bathroom. He climbed out of bed and put his pants back on. "Jenna...?" He went in the bathroom and saw her. 'Holy shit, what'd I do to her?!?!' "Jenna! Jenna, are you alright?!"

She shook her head no, vomiting almost uncontrollably.

Cornel looked around frantically. "O-okay, I'm going to find a doctor!" He ran out of the room and stood in the hallway, yelling: "Doctor! Is there a doctor anywhere? Please, help!!!"

A man ran out of his room down the hall to Cornel. "I'm a doctor! What's wrong?!"

"It's my fi...on...ce'..." The word came out slowly, as if he was tring to spit out peanut butter. Should he really call her that? She wasn't yet, after all... "She- she's vomiting uncontrollably, and I have no idea what's wrong!"

"Wait out here." The doctor went in the room and shut the door behind him.

Cornel started pacing, thinking that he had done something horrible. 'Oh no, what'd I do to her?! She's probably gonna kill me!'

Half an hour later, the doctor came out, smiling. Cornel saw his smile and sighed. "Oh, thank God, she's all right?!"

"Yes, they will be fine."

Cornel looked around, confused. "But I- And She- What...?"

"How do I put this simply...? You, sir, are going to be a father."

Cornel looked like he had just seen a ghost. "Fa-fa-father?!?!"

"Yes. She's pregnant! Congratulations!"

Cornel fainted and fell to the floor. The doctor laughed and took out a vile of smelling salts and waved it under Cornel's nose. Cornel turned his head a few times and looked up at the doctor, regaining conciousness. "Please tell me you're joking..."

The doctor smiled. "No joke. She's pregnant." He helped Cornel up. "Good luck, you two!" With that, the doctor went back to his room.

Cornel stood there in the hallway, a shocked smile on his face. He said quietly: "Preganant... Wow." He entered the room to see Jenna laying in bed, her eyes closed. He pulled a chair over to the side of the bed where she was, and smiled softly at her. "Jenna...? Jenna, dear, are you awake...?"

Her eyes fluttered open and she looked over at him. "Am I going to be okay?"

"In about nine months."

She looked a bit scared. "Oh no, what's wrong with me?!"

He took her hand and cupped it in both of his. He said softly, still smiling at her: "Jenna... we're pregnant. You're going to be a mother!"

She gasped in delight and smiled at him, the tears of joy swelling in her eyes. "Oh, Cornel...!" She pulled him down and squeezed him tightly.

He hugged her in return. Was it legal to feel this good...? He pulled away, still smiling at her. He wiped her tears away as she smiled back at him.

"Cornel, I'm hungry."

"What would you like?"

"Chicken."

He laughed. "A whole one?!"

She sat up and thought for a while. "Yes!"

He laughed again. "All right, I'll be right back!" He put his shirt back on and left the room to get the food.

Jenna sat there and looked at her stomach. In a few months, she'd be as big as a hippo. She smiled to herself, knowing that she would have a beautiful baby with Cornel. 'I guess there is such a thing as love at first sight. I can't believe I'm in love with a boy I've only known a day! But he seems so familiar... *sigh* I wonder if he'll ask me to marry him someday... Oh, I hope so!'

Ten or so minutes later, Cornel came back, a whole roasted chicken in one arm, a plate of breakfast in the other. He set the chicken on the bed next to Jenna, and put the breakfast on a table in the room. He went through his things and pulled out several sheets of parchment, a vial of ink, and a quill. He pulled the chair he had by Jenna over to the opposite corner of the room. He brought his food over next to him as he ate it while scribbling something down on a piece of parchment. He looked a bit frustrated, then crumpled it up and tossed it to the side. He got another piece and began writing again. He looked up at Jenna, who was wolfing down the chicken like it was her last meal. He smiled and went back to writing.

'Never knew,

I could feel like this.

It's like I've never seen the sky-

Before.

Want to vanish,

Inside your kiss.

Every day I love you more and more...'

He hummed a little something happily.

Jenna finished eating and realized that she had never eaten like that before! 'Oh yeah. I'm eating for two ^_^ !' She looked over to Cornel curiously. She got up and went into the bathroom. She shut the door and started filling the tub. Once it was done, she climbed in and washed herself. She dried off and came out wrapped in a towel and noticed Cornel still writing. "Whatcha writing?"

He wrote a bit more, then looked up at her. "A song... or a poem... whichever I decide to make it." He smiled.

"Oh, neat." She got dressed in clean clothes and brushed her hair. She packed up all of her things and smiled at Cornel.

He stopped writing and laughed to himself, seeming like at nothing. "Well, I'm toast..."

She looked at him curiously. "Why do you say that?"

"You said your dad's a God, right...?"

"Yes."

"What do you think he would do if he found out you knew me for a day, and now you're pregnant with my child, and I'm a werewolf...?"

She laughed. "Kill me...? I don't know, actually... But we should be going."

"Oh, right." He gathered up all his things and packed them neatly. He finished off his breakfast and walked out the door, holding it open for her. They left the inn side by side and hand in hand.

"So where are we going now?"

Jenna smiled. "I was thinking we could go to Imil. I could see some of my friends again. But it's so far away... it would take weeks..."

He smiled cheerfully. "Oh, no problem at all!" He let out a strange animal call, like a roar, and the ground started shaking beneath them.

"CORNEL, WHAT'D YOU DO?!?!"

He laughed as a huge, crimson dragon came bounding up to them. "Hey Rover!!!"

Jenna looked terrified. "Don't let it eat me!"

Cornel eyed her in disbelief. "Were you born yesterday...? Dragon's don't eat people! Okay, sure, when they burn a town when they have a cold, they eat people. But only because they don't like leaving a mess behind. They'd eat the buildings but Rover says they taste nasty. And in any case, they only eat people if they're already dead." He smiled at Rover, who looked like he was going to start jumping around.

"Well... what are we going to do with it?"

"Ride it, of course."

"Ride it?! But that's dangerous, isn't it?!"

He grinned. "Only if you don't know how."

He made a motion with his arms and Rover brought his tail down. Cornel climbed up the tail, using the golden spikes like stairs and sat on the dragon's back. He called down to Jenna: "Just do what I did!"

Nervously, she climbed the dragon's tail. She made it up to where Cornel was and grabd onto him.

He smiled and pulled her off of him. "Don't worry, we'll be there in a few hours."

He climbed over to Rover's head and sat there. "Rover, to Imil!"

Rover started running very quickly. He almost pummeled into the forest ahead, but he lifted off the ground just in the nick of time. He flew up into the sky, gliding through the clouds like a graceful bird.

Cornel turned around to Jenna, making sure she was all right. He was relieved to see that she was smiling happily.

Jenna laughed. "This is so fun!" They flew for two hours or so, learning about favorite colors, flowers, hobbies, etc. Jenna looked down at the ground. She hadn't realized how high up they were! She looked back at Cornel. "How long until we get there?"

Cornel did the same kind of roar as he had earlier, but this time Rover roared back. Cornel then looked to Jenna. "Another hour or so. Two hours at most. Why?"

"My butt hurts!" She laughed.

He laughed along with her. "Same here!"

In about half an hour, Jenna had thought of something. "Hey Cornel... how come you can ride a dragon, but not a pegasus...?"

"Ah. I thought you might bring that up. Pegasus aren't very fond of werewolves. They think we'll eat them or something stupid like that..."

"Oh... Well, I almost forgot! Since Imil is up towards the north, it's really cold." She searched through her pack, pulled out a scarf, and wrapped it around her neck.

He shrugged. "No problem." He took off his shirt and transformed.

Jenna watched him and was a bit scared. She had never seen him transform before. The werewolf had a certain handsomeness to it, but it was still creepy. She looked away from him, trying not to think about it.

He quickly noticed her sudden change in attitude. He got a seriousness about him. "What's wrong?"

"Uh... nothing." She was rather quiet and timid. She wasn't going to tell him that she was afraid.

"Are you... afraid of me, Jenna?"

"I- I don't know..."

Rover landed softly on the ground of Imil. There was a soft snowfall coming from the fluffly clouds above them. Jenna carefully climbed down Rover's tail, Cornel following shortly after.

Jenna looked around and spotted a boy with long, blue-green hair. tied back in a pony-tail. She smiled and ran over to him. "Piers! Piers, it's me, Jenna!"

Piers turned around and saw her. He smiled at his crush of three years, glad she was back since he had finally gotten the courage to ask her out. They hugged, happy to see one another again. "Jenna! It's so good to see you again!"

"I missed you guys!" She broke off, waiting for Cornel.

Cornel was walking slowly back to her. He had been staring at the ground, then looked up and saw the people around who looked terrified. He changed back and quickly put his shirt back on. He didn't have any warm clothes with and became cold quickly. However, he could always cuddle with Jenna for warmth. He walked over to them wih a smile.

Jenna smiled at the two boys. "Cornel, this is my friend Piers, and Piers, this is the father of my child, Cornel."

Cornel smiled cheerfully at Piers. He always loved meeting new people, but he sensed something wrong about this guy. "Nice to meet you!"

'Father of child?!?! Why I oughta... that son of a...' Piers forced a smile. "Nice to meet you, too. And congratulations."

Jenna looked around. "Piers, where are Alex and Mia?"

"Haven't you heard? They're getting married!"

She gasped. "Married?!"

"They're at the chapel now."

Cornel smiled. As the evil thoughts ran through his mind, he wrapped an arm around Jenna. 'Oooh... I am SO going to squash him like a bug. Let's make it clear she's mine, hm?' "Well... that makes two couples I know." He smiled down at Jenna.

Jenna's cheeks flushed pink as she smiled back at him. "Well... I don't know about that..."

"But I do..." Cornel leaned over and kissed her lovingly with a smile.

"See you later, Jenna." Piers walked off as fast as he could. He was insanely jealous, and he couldn't stand to see that guy kiss Jenna.

'Why, of all the nerve... Jenna will be mine, just you wait...!'

Jenna took Cornel's hand. "C'mon, let's go see the ceremony!"

They ran to the chapel together and entered quietly. Cornel looked from side to side. He whispered to her: "Which side to we sit on...?"

She whispered back: "It doesn't matter, wherever it's empty!"

He looked around and found a bench with just enough room for the two of them. He walked over to it with her and sat down.

She sat next to him with a smile. As Alex and Mia recited their vows, she took Cornel's hand and placed it on her tummy. She layed her head on his shoulder and whispered: "I can't wait to say those words to you..."

He smiled gently and rested his head on hers. 'Wow... she wants to be my wife... to share her life with me. To have my child, and to live eternally with eachother. Is this actually happening to me? Somebody pinch me, I must be dreaming!' He whispered back to her: "Same here..."

The ceremony ended and they went outside together to congratulate Alex and Mia. Jenna ran up to them. "Alex...! Mia...! Over here!"

Alex and Mia turned around and saw Jenna, quickly waving her over.

Jenna walked with Cornel over to them. She hugged them both happily. "Oh, I've messed you guys so much! Um, Alex, Mia, this is Cornel, my fionce', and the father of my child. Cornel; Alex and Mia."

Cornel bowed to them both. "A pleasure to meet you! And congratulations on getting married!"

Mia smiled at Cornel. "You've got a good one here, Jenna. One with manners. But you don't have to bow, you know."

Cornel grinned. "I know. It makes me feel important."

Alex: "Well, it was nice seeing you, Jenna, and nice meeting you, Cornel. But we really must be going." Alex carried Mia off.

"Bye you guys! See you later!" Jenna turned to Cornel. "I'm hungry again."

Cornel smiled. "Where do we go?"

"Well, let's go to the inn. We need somewhere to stay until tomorrow."

"Okay then!" Jenna led Cornel to the inn and they entered. "You get us a room, and I'll get us something to eat.

Jenna nodded and ordered a room. She tool the key rom the innkeeper and started off to their room. About halfway there, ahe spotted Piers. "Hi, Piers!"

Cornel had been looking over all the food when he slapped his forehead. 'D'oh! I forgot to ask her what she wanted to eat...!' He went toward the room, following her scent, completely unaware of what he was about to see.

"Hi there, Jenna..." Piers leaned in and kissed her passionately.

Cornel had just turned the corner and saw them kissing. His jaw dropped, his heart torn in two. He turned and stormed out of the inn, filled with anger, jealousy, and pain.

Jenna quickly pushed him away. "Piers, I have a fionce'! She looked quickly and saw Cornel leaving.

"Oh, now look what you did!!!" She ran after him, afraid of what he thought.

'Why does my heart cry?

Feelings I can't fight?

You're free to leave me,

But just don't deceive me,

And please-

Believe me when I say,

I Love You!'

That song was all that ran through his mind as he walked quickly toward the forest. 'I should have known no one could ever love me...'

Jenna ran out of the inn and saw him. She caught up as best she could, running through the snow. "Cornel, wait, please! I don't love him, I Love You!" She dropped to her knees in despair, tears flowing down her face. "Please don't leave me..."

He had stopped dead in his tracks when he heard her voice. He turned around and saw her there, crying in the snow. He ran to her and embraced her as he helped her back up. He said softly: "I could never leave you..." He broke away from her, rage filling his body. He jogged back towards the inn, his fangs, ears, and tail slowly coming out. His blue eye turned silver as he fully transformed. He stormed back to the inn, knowing exactly what he was going to do.

Jenna watched him jog off when she saw him transform. She gasped and thought aloud: "Oh no... I've got to stop him... he's going to kill Piers!" She ran after him once more, hoping she would make it in time.

Cornel sniffed Piers out and cornered him in the hallway. He wrapped a clawes hand around Piers's throuat and thrust him against the wall. He snarled from deep within his throat: "How DARE you touch my wife?!?!"

Jenna had run up the hall. She saw Cornel and froze, terrified.

Piers saw Jenna there and said, as best he could through Cornel's tight grip: "Is this your fionce'?! Wait till your father hears!"

Cornel squeezed tighter and growled even louder.

"And what will your kid be...? Some little furry thing?!"

The tears swelled up in Jenna's eyes and trickled down her face

Cornel squeezed Piers' throat so tightly that he broke the skin w/ his claws. "You pushed it when you insulted me... BUT TO INSULT MY WIFE AND MY CHILD IS BEYOND ARROGANCE!" He threw the now unconcious Piers to the floor, the blood trickling from his neck.

Jenna took in the whole scene and fainted.

Cornel looked over and saw Jenna. He looked down at his hands... they were covered in Piers's blood. This was exactly how it had been when he rampaged Makai. He was terrified. Almost as if by an invisible force, he was thrust agains the wall and he changed back into himself. Breathing heavily, he passed out against the wall. Ten minutes later, he regained conciousness. Piers was no longer there, and only a blood stain remained. Tears streamed down his face at the sight of his unconcious Jenna. He crawled over to her and rested his head in her chest, still crying.

Jenna opened her eyes and saw Cornel laying there on her, ashamed of himself. But what he had done was practically unforgiveable. Turning her heart to stone, she pushed him off and ran out of the inn and into the forest.

Cornel sobbed uncontrollably after she pushed him off. 'What have I done...?!' He lay there sobbing, feeling that he may never see her again.
