Chapter Five: When Anger Turns To Joy

The next day, Cornel and Jenna had made up. The nine months that followed had gone by in what seemed like a day for Cornel, and Jenna's stomach had ballooned out. They had traveled to town after town, warning anyone who valued their lives of the cursed Djinn. They were able to remove some curses, but the Dark Lord still reigned on, causing more and more havoc. Cornel still hadn't asked Jenna to marry him. He himself was unsure of why this was... but there never seemed to be a time that felt right. He still showed his love for her, though, constantly writing new songs and making love to her as often as he possibly could. Eventually, it was in the time range for Jenna to go into labor. Cornel was more protective than ever of new his mate and unborn child, and Jenna was surprised he didn't leap out and attack anyone who even looked at her. They're now camping in the forest after a battle gone wrong, where Cornel had been seriously injured. His back was completely torn open, and it was amazing he was still alive. He had managed to kill his opponent, but just barely. They had recieved very little help, due to the werewolf inside of Cornel. Luckily, a mysterious doctor had rushed to help him. And after the doctor had done what he could, creatures of the forest took over. In the middle of the night, a woman came to him and healed him with an enchanted kiss. Now he was almost perfectly healthy again. He awoke before Jenna, who had been in a worried sleep on his chest. He smiled at her after he had carefully picked her up off of him, then looked over to his other side. There was a freshly hunted elk on the ground. He sniffed it curiously, then gave a toothy smile. Apparently, some of the animals in the forest intended to help him out. He built a fire and began to roast the elk, adding some herbs and spices that he had kept with him for a while. Jenna soon woke at the smell of the fresh food. Her eyes fluttered open and she looked around. When she saw Cornel cooking, she gasped, startled.

"Cornel! Y-you're up!"

He grinned. "Interesting, isn't it? Someone must like me up there." He tore open a piece of the elk to see if it was done. It was still pink inside, so he cooked it for a bit longer. "You hungry?"

She shook her head. "For once, no. I'll be back in a few minutes, alright?"

He looked up at her, rather concerned. "Ok, but you hurry back. I don't need anything happening to you because I'm not there." He took the elk off the fire and carved off a piece for himself as Jenna walked off into the trees.

She found a small lake not too far away and undressed. She climbed into the water and began to bathe, when she heard something that sounded like the snapping of a twig. A knight emerged from the forest in front of her.

"Ms. Jenna Mezzanine?"

"Yes."

"I'm here to inform you that you have been summoned by your father, and you and your suitor must leave for Vale at once."

"What for?!"

"He has told me nothing of why he wishes to speak with you. All I have been informed of is that you must leave immediately."

"Um... alright." She finished bathing and climbed out of the water. She air-dryed as quickly as she could, as she had forgotten a towel, then dressed, still damp. She walked with the knight back to Cornel to find him sitting there, twiddling his thumbs.

Cornel looked up at the sound of their footsteps. Seeing Jenna, he smiled, then looked behind her. "Who's your friend?"

Jenna had a nervous expression on her face. She was afraid of what her father might do when he saw she was pregnant. "Cornel, my dad wants to see us."

"Oh. M'kay." Cornel gathered up their things and followed the two of them out of the forest, where three chestnut stallions were waiting for them. Each of them mounted a different horse and made their way to Vale. While the knight remained serious, Cornel and Jenna had equally nervous looks on their faces. They hadn't really thought much about seeing Jenna's father, and how he would react to their ideas of being together. Cornel knew perfectly well that he had to ask not only Jenna for her hand in marriage, but her father as well. Though he didn't think that a rejection from him would stop them from loving eachother and being in blessed matrimony. If needed, they would marry in secret. Those were his thoughts, at least. They uttered not a word on the way to Vale, and in a few hours, they had arrived. They held eachother's hand as they entered the sanctum behind the knight. Jenna's father and several other knights were there, waiting. Her father looked absolutely furious. The knight bowed down.

"My Lord, I have brought your daughter and her suitor."

Jenna's Dad: "Very good. Resume your position."

The knight took place to the left of Jenna's father. Now that this was done, her father stormed toward them both. The anger on his face was even worse in his voice as he boomed, "Jenna, what is this about you being engaged to a werewolf?! And being pregnant! Explain yourself!"

Jenna took a brave step forward. "It's true! All of it! I'm pregnant with Cornel's child, we're getting married, and there's nothing you can do to stop us!"

Jenna's Dad: "What are you talking about?! I've already chosen a man for you to marry!"

"WHO?!"

Piers steped out from the shadows, smirking in satisfaction. "Me."

Cornel glared as his fists clenched at his sides. 'That goddamned asshole...!'

Jenna looked like she was in complete and utter shock. "Piers!"

Jenna's Dad: "Yes. He came to me and told me of your affairs. In reward for his honesty, I gave him your hand in marriage."

Now it was Jenna's turn to glare at Piers. "I will never marry you."

Jenna's Dad: "I will leave you three to sort this out amongst yourselves." With that, Jenna's father and all the quards disappeared. Now only Piers, Cornel, and Jenna were left. Piers stepped toward them, that snug smile still upon his face. "Now now, Jenna... is that any way to speak to your fionce'? Besides, you should be pleased. I saved you from a horrible life with a filthy werewolf." He let out a hearty laugh at the infuriated look on Cornel's face. "Surprised? You shouldn't be. Did you think that if you let me live after our unpleasant encounter, I'd stop trying for Jenna and leave you both be? Well, you were very much mistaken. I thought I made it quite clear that I wouldn't give up until she was mine. I even have a little something that may persuade you to give up quietly." Piers reached for his sheath and pulled out the Wetblade.

Cornel reached behind him to realize that his wasn't with him. The sword in Piers' hands was indeed his Wetblade. Cornel let out a low growl, trying his best not to have a repeat of what had happened at his first run-in with Piers. But the werewolf wanted to emerge... and it intended to kill.

"No? Well then, I'll just get started without your permission." Piers uttered some strange words and Jenna cried out in pain.

The tears went in streams down her face. Her eyes and those tears were jet black. "Not... again...!"

Cornel couldn't stand it anymore. He transformed, and yet again, this time there was something different. His eyes turned blood red; there was no iris or pupil. A deep hatred burned inside him like he'd never felt before. Snarling wildly, he lunged at Piers and, with a snap of his jaws, took out a huge piece of his arm.

Piers' crimson blood gushed from the gaping wound and he cried out, breathing heavily trying to fight off the pain. A wicked smile spread across his face as he looked at Cornel, who was wiping his mouth. "You think if you kill me, this will stop?" He let out an evil laugh. "Wrong again. If you kill me, I'll just come back."

"I DON'T CARE! I'D KILL YOU ONE HUNDRED TIMES OVER IF I HAD TO! I WANT YOU TO STAY OUT OF OUR LIVES FOREVER! YOU TELL JENNA I'M A FILTHY WEREWOLF, BUT THE ONLY THING FILTHY I CAN SEE IS YOU!!!" His voice was deep and demonic. He lunged at Piers again, who looked like he was about to crap his pants (^_^). This time, Cornel took his clawed hand and sent it through Piers' back, and came out in the middle of his stomach. Cornel leaned in and whispered, in a mater of fact tone, "Amazing what claws can do..." With that, Cornel pulled out of Piers, his entire forearm covered in blood.

Piers doubled over in pain, wheezing, the blood pouring out of him. He and the Wetblade disappeared.

Cornel looked from his arm over to Jenna, who was laying on the floor. The fear of what Piers may have done to her sunk in, and he changed back to normal. He ran to her and sat on his knees by her side. "Jenna... Jenna, what did he do to you?!"

She had also turned to normal, but the tears still ran down her cheeks. "He- he cursed the baby..."

Cornel looked terrified. "What did he do?"

"I don't know... It could have been good or bad."

"I don't think we escaped with a good one."

And at that moment... her water broke. "Cornel, my water broke!!! Get help!"

Cornel nodded and ran out of the sanctum. "HELP! ANYONE, PLEASE! I NEED A DOCTOR!"

The very same doctor who had healed Cornel rushed to his aid. "What is it?"

"My wife's in labor!"

"I need you to get me a towel and a tub of water. HURRY!" The doctor ran into the sanctum and Cornel ran to get what he had asked for. He returned twenty minutes later, a small tub of water sloshing in his arms and a towel over his shoulder.

Jenna was lying on the floor, the doctor kneeling between her legs, pushing hard. She had been in labor since yesterday, but hadn't told Cornel. She didn't need any more of his excessive worrying. She was sweating and trying to do what the doctor told her, but oh, the pain! Her contractions were out of control and she let out a small scream.

Cornel set the tub and towel down beside the doctor and kneeled at Jenna's side.

She took his hand and squeezed hard. "AHH, Cornel, I hate you!"

Cornel smiled. "I love you, too, dear."

Still grunting and pushing hard, she screamed, "You suck in bed!!!"

Using the same tone, he replied, "I'm as kinky as a rusted sword, dear."

"Well you do!"

"I know, sweetheart."

The doctor looked inside and saw a trace of a head. "One more big push ought to do it!"

With one final push, Jenna let out a scream of pain as the baby slid out, crying.

The doctor took the baby and cut the umbilical cord, avoiding the afterbirth that was all over the floor. He tied the baby's belly button and said, with a broad smile, "Congratulations. You're now the proud parents of a new baby boy." The doctor dressed their new baby and handed him to Jenna.

Jenna gave a weak smile as she looked from her new son to Cornel. "He's beautiful..."

Cornel was absolutely speechless. All he could do was smile at his fionce'-to-be and his handsome baby boy. After a few minutes of staring, he was able to speak. "Yes. He is."

"I don't mean to interrupt," said the doctor, "but would the father mind taking the baby for a moment?"

"Oh." Jenna carefully handed the baby over to Cornel. "Mind his head."

Cornel cautiously took his new son with a contented smile.

The doctor brought the tub he had washed the baby in up to Jenna's pelvis, which he rested on the edge. He pushed all the excess fluids out from her womb. Once this was done, he brought her pelvis back down to the floor and began to stich her up.

Jenna looked down and winced occasionally in pain before looking back at Cornel, who was gazing down at his son. "Have you thought of any names?"

"Well... actually, no. I tried, but I couldn't think of any I liked. Did you have any in mind?"

"I think Isaac is nice."

"Well," he said, an adoring look in his eyes, "Isaac it is, then." He thought for a moment, then said teasingly, "Well, thank God we didn't name him Cornel Jr., because we wouldn't want him to grow up sucking in bed!"

"Oh... sorry Cornel, I didn't mean that."

"Sure you didn't."

"I didn't!!!"

"Ah, I know you didn't. If you had, I don't think you waould've let me do it again... and again... and again... and- Whoops, did I say that out loud?" He grinned. He wanted to make sure that Jenna was just as happy as she was. And she was, which was quite apparent in her laughter.

While the doctor finished stitching Jenna, Isaac began to wail. Cornel began gently shushing him, but to no avail. He stood and remembered the new song he had wrote. He gently rocked Isaac and began to softly sing.

"My gift is my song...!

And this one's for you.

And you can tell everybody,

That this is your song.

It may be quite simple but,

Now that it's done-

Hope you don't mind,

I hope you don't mind,

That I put down in words-

How wonderful life is,

Now you're in the world...

Sat on the roof,

And I kicked off the moss.

Well, some of these verses,

Well they,

They got me quite cross.

But the sun's been kind,

While I wrote this song.

It's for people like you that,

Keep it turned on.

So excuse me forgetting,

'Bout these things I do.

You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue!

Anyway, the thing is,

What I really mean,

Yours are the sweetest eyes,

I've ever seen!

And you can tell everybody,

This is your song!

It may be quite simple but,

Now that it's done-

I hope you don't mind,

I hope you don't mind,

That I put down in words-

How wonderful life is,

Now you're in the world...!

Hope you don't mind,

I hope you don't mind,

That I put down in words-

How wonderful life is...

Now you're in the world- !"

With the last few notes, Isaac drifted off to sleep.

The doctor stood and smiled. "I'll leave you two be. Now, miss, you'll need to avoid any strenuous activity over the next week. Such as, no swimming, fighting, running..."

"No running?!"

"I'm sorry, but no running. Just give me holler if you need anything else." With that, he left.

Jenna looked rather dissapointed, but smiled once again when she looked to Cornel and Issac. She could already see that he was going to be a wonderful father.

Cornel carefully handed the sleeping Isaac to Jenna and helped her sit up. He whispered, "So, where do we go next?"

"The next town to visit is Makai."

"MAKAI??!"
