Bright lights lit up the deserted, tan cobblestone street as a figure wrapped in a red trenchcoat clomped down the street. All the tiny shops and houses that were conveniently placed in a manner giving it the really innocent town look. Except, this time...the only lights were those hanging from poles. All the shops had signs hanging on their doors that read ," Sorry Closed". The figure stepped closer to a lit light and leaned against the pole. He had a odd band around his head, slightly above in the point of his nose to past his forehead casting a shadow under it unabling anyone to see his eyes. There were two crudely stiched scars from the right profile of his face. One starting under his chin and seemingly crossing over the bridge of his nose. The other branched out midway from the other. The two front portions of his long dark brown hair hungs over the band on his head. His hands were black looking mechanical like, but it wasn't for sure. His black pants stopped to his knee where his long black boots started. He was a very odd one indeed.
Hearing now, the faint sound of music he perched his head in the direction of a large castle. A paper rustled stuck around the pole as he picked it up and began to read it:
"Men and Women of all ages. Tonights grand ball and we wish
you to accompany us in this masquerade....
There was more but it was about the date and such.Taking in the idea it was most likley going to rain by gazing up at the sky.He decided to attend this ball and pushed himself off the pole and began down the road to the castle.
By the time he reached the castle he could hear joyous laughing and music. He walked in the door, not getting many odd looks because infact, because it was a masquerade, his apprearance didn't look to odd the masqued eyes. No sooner had he stepped in had the rain started but nobody was bothered. For it was going to be a long night. He was sure.
There was a large ballroom. The floor was made entirley out of marble. There were chairs, tables, and food. He glanced around, never one for such joyous attitude. He looked around awhile. Until he noticed. One person not dancing, nor laughing, nor talking.Just alone. She held a mask tightly to her face as if asking to be alone, and looked that way.
He walked to her slowly until he was right infront of her. She didn't look up even though she knew he was there. He reached over and pulled her mask slowly from her face until her could see her face. Only then did she look up at him. Her expression didn't change. She had very long blonde hair reaching the floor. Three bangs crossing infront of her face. She wore a long white dress, the from was corset like and a string tied tightly in the front. The sleeved went to about her elbow and then a large sleeve began made out of a see through fabric.
He felt something odd within himself when she looked at him.....but he couldn't place it........He felt very.....He turned his head to the ballroom floor as if to get the feeling away to stop looking at her. She stood up and looked at him. She lead him to the the ballroom floor when her he gave her a puzzled look. She reached up to touch the band on his face and try to remove it to get a good look at him. He grabbed her hand before she could do so. She glaced at his face then seeing the stiches that once seemingly held portions of his face together though now, there were scars covered by only stitches. She touched the stitches softly with her fingers, She felt a twitch of guiltyness in the action put her hand down.
She felt she needed to say something to ease off the feeling...
"Do you...always dance with people whom you don't know...?"
There was a pause..
"I don't dance much.."
She gave a small smile. Feeling better now.
"Care to try out what you can remember?"
He looked down on her.
"I don't even know who you are.."
She rolled her eyes.
"Well you're no fun now are you?...Im Saria."
"Fun was never a specialty..Saria...."
"Something wrong with my name?"
"No, it's better than mine..."
"Ok so you'd rather be named after a girl than a guy, tell me your name."
"Diablos.."
"Diablos?...."
"See...?"
"It's very...original...I love it."
"It's not good to lie.."
"Who said I was lying?"
Music started then...soft but loud as the last few notes echoed when the music paused played by a instument looking like a har but sounding like a paino. Soon after the tune was played it got deeper. (Note: Pianos didn't exist then but thats the type of instrument)And eventually more instruments were aded to the tune
They began dancing slowly. He was a bit klutzy with it, but she didn't seem to mind. And soon another song began..... Soon enough did someone else approach..
"Saria! There you are I've been looking all over the castle for you!"
The man squealed. He had blond hair pulled back into a ponytail, his large blue eyes were very weird. You could tell he wore makeup.
"Piet.....Go away..."
Saria snapped.
"Geez.... I wonder who has their hair in a bundle.."
Piet walked off to go talk to other people.
"He looks like a girl..."
Diablos stated with the most curious look on his face.
"I think he is.."
Saria said looking back at Diablos..
"The nights almost over and it stopped raining I should go..."
She looked down..
"You don't talk to many people do you.... So you don't have to keep up any kind of reputation..."
He looked down at her.
"What are you getting to?"
"As soon as this night is over I had to be the perfect princess again..one with beauty and power with no problems.."
He could hear a stiffled sob between what she was saying. He hated dealing with everyones problems. Thinking that if they talk to someone it'll make them feel better.
"Why put up with it? Runaway.."
She looked back up at him.
"Why do I have to put up with it? Why not runaway?! That what you did isn't it-"
He placed a finger on her lips and he face was expression less like her had crawled deeper into his shell.
"We were talking about you not me..."
A tall man with black hair stepped towards them. He had gold armour, and he outfit underneath was green.
"Just what the hell are you doing?!"
He snapped at him not even giving a moments glance to Saria.
"Nothing.."
Diablos retorted not taking hisglance away from Saria.
"Can you even see me through that thing on your head?!"
The man yelled at him quiet enough not to attract attention.
"Tilan stop it..."
Saria said trembling and backing up knowing what would happen.
"What did you just say....wench......?"
He turned to her. Lifting his hand coved in armour and swung.
"Stop it..."
Diablos grabbed Tilan's hand before he could land his fist on Saria. Tillan glance at Diablos's blach mechanical-looking hand and shook it off.
"She's mine...mind your own business,a nd if you know what good for you, you'll leave now...."
Saria ran while she had the chance as far away from Tillan as she could. In the meantime, Tillan didn't even glance at Saria. Diablos turned to leave as a guard ran up to Tillan.
" Should we go after Saria, Prince Tillan?"
The guard said ready to chase her. Tillan give him a smirk.
"No..She'll come back...I know so.."
Diablos ran past many people leaving the castle to find Saria.
'Dammit...why can't I just let her go..?'
He thought as he argued with himself while running.
(I'd write more but I figure I leave it at this. It's not a cliffhanger or anything. Just review and tell me what you think. I have drawing of Saria and Diablos, I just haven't uploaded them yet. - Wu Mei)
