Destiny's twist
By: Blanca Vargas Mendez
AN: This is a story I did because… well >>; You can not create a character and not let him/her have a story to tell!! This would be Kaila's story. Her pics are up in my gallery ^-^ This is only the first chapter anyhow <<;;
Life is weird, isn't it? Its full of twists and turns, it's no straight road like some people like to think, you never know what you might have ahead of you, its never 100% sure it'll be something good.
What about love? Some argue that it's a kind of 'thing' (to call it somehow) that makes the twisted road of life both, more twisted and more worth living. But who could have imagined the darkness in love with the light. One could think this is an impossible combination, but once you think it over calmly and thorough fully, you jump to the conclusion that darkness and light are but the sides of one same coin. One cannot live without the other, however as you wonder further you start to look at things you wouldn't otherwise; what would happen if the powers of light and darkness were to be combined…? Normally people pay absolutely no attention to this, not even the creatures of light like angels, nor the creatures of darkness like demons think about this… But the thought is still there, waiting for someone to think it up… Who could have guessed that the first one to bring the idea up would have been an angel?
Bright sun splashed onto a solitary creature whom was resting on top of a cloud, her long aqua-colored hair sparkled while her eyes shone revealing a yellow colour. The bathing sunshine made her white downy wings look almost ghost-like and mythical, not to mention her cat ears on the top of her head, nor the white, cat tail that she had swishing from side to side. As a young angel, Kaila didn't have to preoccupy herself with missions of any sort, therefore she had most of her day free.
She watched the busy movements of the city below her, humans scuttled on the streets catching busses, rushing, pushing, and being somewhat aggressive, or so Lizzy thought anyway.
As she watched all the activity, her thoughts began to wonder…why were humans so interesting anyway? What was it that attracted angels…and demons so much towards them?
She let out a sigh, scowling at herself, she knew the answer to that, as so did every angel in heaven; humans had a special something that could either direct them towards light or towards darkness. That was the soul reason that made humans interesting for both superior species, it was one of the reasons for their constant fighting and immortal hatred they felt for one another.
Why did demons and angels fight one another? She raised an eyebrow at herself, stupid question to ask wasn't it? But as she thought further, she discovered that there was no exact answer to the question.
She frowned as she continued to watch the humans rush to their jobs, until finally, tired, she lied down facing up towards the sky, and closed her eyes, forcing all of her thoughts out of her mind, in an attempt to get some sleep.
-"My, my, Kitty-chan…slacking off on the job? Some angel you are!"-
Kaila's eyes shot open at once on hearing the by now familiar voice, she sat straight once more, and flattened her cat ears against her head as she eyed the one who had disturbed her sleep.
He had light, green hair, brushed in an ever-messy way, locks of it fell over his eyes, leaving them barely visible. He could have passed for a normal human if it hadn't been for the fact that he was levitating a few meters away from Lizzy, using the huge, black bat-like wings that protruded from of his back, which gave him a weird and kind of sinister look. He stood there smirking at the angel he had in front of him.
-"Don't call me Kitty! Go away, leave me alone!"- She said through gritted teeth.
The stranger continued to smirk at her, -"Now, now , Kitty, where have you left your angel manners? How about trying 'Please, Gabriel'?"-
-"What a hypocritical name to give a demon, Gabriel is an angel name"- Said Kaila crossing her arms over her chest.
Gabriel's expression twitched for a moment, -"Well, so what? You guys don't have the name patented, do you? So where's the problem?"-
She began to open her mouth, to shoot back a retort at him, but found she didn't know what else to say to him, she had run out of ideas. Kaila flicked her tail and sat her ears into a normal position, heaving a sigh, -"What the heck do you want from me? Why can't you leave me alone for once? Have you demons nothing better to do than to annoy innocent angels who only mind their own business ?"-
Gabriel flapped his wings twice, and sat himself beside the young angel, amused, for she had given in far more easily than usual, -"What're you doing?"- He asked her, -"Alone and all… where are your friends?"-
The blue haired girl shock her head, it didn't fit into her mind why the annoying demon was always bothering her…but, on the other hand, she was kind of lonely, no one to talk to but the birds, and their conversations were always sort of…around the twist.
She lay down on the cloud once more, this time facing the city, -"Just watching them,"- she said pointing at the still rushing humans below them, -"My friends said they had better things to do than sit around wasting their time,"- she put the hand she had used to point, under her chin, and heaved a sigh, -"But take me for example, I've nothing better to do than talk to a demon, who is paying little to zero attention to what I'm saying…I can't believe it."-
Gabriel yawned, as if to emphasise her point, -"You know? You're no fun when you're depressed,"- he commented dryly as he stood up, opening his wings, -"Catch you later, Kitty-chan!"- and with that, he was gone.
Kaila yellow eyes flashed, "I've told you millions of times, DO NOT CALL ME KITTY!!" she yelled after him, only to be rewarded by a few far-away chuckles.
Kaila reached her home cloud in heaven late that afternoon, she hadn't felt like going, for she knew that as she had passed the whole day away, the other angels were going to want to know were she had been, not to mention with who she had been.
Sure enough, the moment she reached the cloud, she only had the enough time to sit down before they surrounded her, questions flying out of their mouths.
The young angel drowned a little yelp as she used her hands to cover up her fluffy ears against her head, closing her eyes in the process, -"SLEEP!", yelled out. Her sleep spell caused the angels surrounding her, to fall asleep, however, at the same exact moment her comrades began to fall, she thought she her a faint voice chant, -"Protect."- softly, however, she couldn't have been 100% sure.
She let go of her ears, and opened her eyes slowly, only one angel remained standing, she had beautiful black hair, that fell over her shoulders like a cascade, her bright blue eyes shone with kindness.
Kaila groaned, -"Why couldn't you fall asleep like the rest with my spell, Starla? It's not fair, you know?"-
Starla smiled as she approached her, -"Lizzy, I've known you since we were born, plus, you didn't have to be a genius to know you were going to use a sleeping spell to escape from them,"- she pointed towards their sleeping comrades, "But let's get to the point," she continued while giggling slightly, -"Were have you been all day? They've been driving me up the wall, they thought I knew where you were…"- Starla could not continue, for she was hushed by Kaila, who covered her friend's mouth with her hand.
-"Not here…"- she whispered, -"If we go somewhere else, I'll tell you where I was."-
With that both angels opened their wings and left, taking maximum care, as not to wake anyone up from their slumber. As the blue haired girl flew away, she took one last look back and shook her head, they would be in an awfully grumpy mode when they woke up, and she did not wish to stick around till that happened.
When both felt that they were far enough, they sat down on another cloud, stars and moon illuminating them both.
Starla tapped Kaila's shoulder, -"So…are you going to tell me where you've been, or not."-
Her friend seemed to hesitate for a moment before beginning, -"Well, if you really wanna know, I was watching some humans, you know? They're quite interesting and…"- Kaila cut herself off as she watched the black haired angel grin at her, -"wait a minute! You wanna know if I've seen him, not where I've been..."-
Starla burst out laughing, -"See? Told you, we know each other almost as sisters do, although taking into consideration the amount of time we've spent together, it's no wonder we can almost read each other's minds'. But anyway, tell me, did you see him?"-
The cat angel began fiddling with a lock of her sky-colored hair, -"…Well yes…", she whispered softly, -"But he left immediately! And why are you still grinning like that?!"-
The black haired angel lifted her hands towards her face, eyes shinning bright, -"How romantic… an angel and a demon together… without fighting, SWEET!"-
Kaila glared at her best friend, -"You are so annoying sometimes... are you aware of it?"-
-"Please Lizzy, please take me with you tomorrow! I want to meet him, by what you recount of him, he sound so interesting, pleeeaaaseee!"-Starla continued to beg to her best friend for a while, knowing that if she was persistent enough, Lizzy would have to give in sooner or later... which she did, agreeing with Starla only if she was allowed to sleep over at her friend's cloud, for hers was packed full on sleeping angels.
big, fluffy cloud, talking and giggling at each other, as humans rushed once more to their different jobs, oblivious to the fact that they were being watched. Starla The next day was as beautiful as the one before, sun splashed onto the two angels that sat on smiled at Lizzy, -"How much will we have to wait till he shows up?"-
-"I've no idea..."- said Kaila shacking her head and giving her friend's question a long thought, -"I usually don't wait for him to come... he just, you know, pops up, no matter were I might be, and calls me Ki..."- Kaila was not allow to finish her phrase, as she felt two hand cover up her eyes, and a gleeful voice chirp, -"How are you doing, Kitty? Guess who?"-
She let out a little yelp, struggling to free herself from her tormentor's grip, -"Let go you stupid demon! Starla get him off of me! Leave go!"- after a bit more struggling and wiggling, she was able to break free, breathing loudly, ears flat against her head, she eyed the grinning demon, scowling as she did so, while Starla practically rolled on her back, trying to restrain a huge fit of laughter, -"I never imagined that he would actually allow himself such liberty with you! You make a perfect couple!"-
Kaila turned to scowl at her supposedly best friend, -"You could have helped me when I asked you, as for your observation, its both, stupid and unrealistic, I mean... duh, like that's gonna happen..."-, she turned to point at Gabriel, who was by know chuckling quietly in amusement, -"And you!"-, she began, glaring at him, eyes flashing, -"That was not funny! Don't you ever dare try that again!"-
Starla smiled at her friend's attitude, she found it entertaining, for she knew that Kai-chan was one of few angels who didn't actually mind being near demons, she knew that the young, blue-haired angel respected them... As she had found out the first day she had seen her, in class;
*-*-*-* (Starla's flashback)
-"All of you sit down, the class is about to begin." Shouted the elder angel, as he waited for all of the young ones to find a seat, -"Good, know that you are all seated, we shall begin. Today, as its the first day of school, we shall study the most important rule for any angel, big or small, young or old, powerful or not..."-
The young ones looked at their elder with interest as he walked around the room, what was that rule? they wondered to themselves.
The elder frowned, -"As angels, you must always remember this, it is essential, as you will find out soon enough..."- he looked at his student briefly before resuming his talk, -"Demons!"- he spoke with hatred, bitterness poisoning his voice, -"Demons! They are our only problem... they live in darkness, they live OFF darkness, unlike ourselves, they love fighting."- suddenly he stopped as if thinking over what he had just said, and shock his head, -"No, they don't LOVE, as that word is not even in their vocabulary. No angel that appreciates heaven or his or her comrades will ever allow a demon to come near him or her, is that clear? You are not allowed to even think about having a relationship of any sort with one, they are the scum and filth of living things, they don't disserve to be alive, they don't..."- his speech was cut short by a female voice.
-"Why not?"- the class remained silent as they stared at the only student who was on her feet, staring at the elder with a determined gaze, she had beautifully long, aqua colored hair, which made her yellow eyes gleam, and she swished her cat-like tail from right to left in irritation she couldn't hide, while her cat ears twitched ever so slightly as she continued to gaze at the elder, -"Why not?"-, she repeated, -"We all have rights, don't we? All living creatures, including demons should have rights, isn't it so? I mean, if we think ourselves superior to every other species, then we are even worse than the ones you call scum."-
The elder raised an eyebrow at his student, she had weird ideas... this was not good, he had to make her see that she was wrong, -"Kaila, next arcangel of nature, right?"-, the sky-coloured hair youth nodded as the elder continued, -"You have some interesting ideas there, young one, but you see... as hard as it may be for you to believe this, demons are pure evil, they adore violence and fighting, so if they see an angel, they are most likely going to want to fight against it, therefore, this rule is only there so that you don't get hurt, understand?"-
The young one frowned, -"No one can be pure evil... nor pure good, for that matter,"- she stated, -"We regard ourselves to be like pure light and good, but we fight against demons, we fight them back, with violence... therefore we aren't completely good, and so, taking this into account, why can't there be at least one demon who isn't pure evil?"-
The elder's gaze was fixed on this young angel as he too frowned, -"You are mistaken, young one... no demon can be as you think, has never been, and shall never be, it is anti natural, therefore, forget it."- he held his hand up for silence as the youth was about to answer back, -"I want to hear no more of this nonsense, understood?"-
This left the young angel no choice but to nod slightly, sit back down, and continue listening to the elder's lecture, however, the young aqua-haired girl's efforts had not been in vain, for she had given all the other student something to think about...
*-*-*-* (End of flashback)
Indeed, thought Starla to herself, Kai's speech had opened her eyes to new possibilities that day, her friend had been right, no one could be pure evil, there had to be some kind of balance, otherwise... well... things just would not work.
She continued to watch the blond angel and the green-haired demon quarrel, smiling as she did so, she couldn't help it! They looked so cute! But then something occurred to her, did the demon actually know how special Lizzy was anyway? Surely not... and so, therefore there was only one thing she could do, tell him! But not in front of Kaila, it wouldn't feel right to do so.
She giggled slightly in anticipation, before flying towards the demon, -"Sorry, um... um..."- great! What was his name? She had forgotten to ask her friend...
However, she could worry little longer before he smiled at her, -"The name's Gabriel, and you're?"-
-"Starla, my name's Starla, and I'd like a minute with you, would you care to come with me for a moment? I think you should know something which you probably don't,"- she turned towards the cat angel, -"You don't mind, do you? We'll be back in a minute."-
Kaila stood there for a moment before heaving a sigh a lying down on the cloud to watch the business below her, -"Sure, no problem with me, take him wherever you want..."-
Starla smiled and thanked her before literally pulling the demon along with her until she felt they were far enough, in an attempt to get away from her friend's sensitive hearing. Happy that she was far enough, she turned and smiled at the demon, -"You know... you might not think so at the moment, but Kais' a very special angel"-
Gabriel smiled back, -"I know, Kitty-chan's condition of arc angel makes her very interesting indeed,"- he said to Starla, how was actually quite shocked he had figured out that Kai was and arc angel, -"And...We mustn't forget her strange attitude towards demons..."- he muttered while looking thoughtful.
Starla was by now very confused, he knew Lizzy had a special view towards demons? Now that was interesting, -" What do you mean with strange attitude?"-
Gabriel gained a thoughtful expression as he tried to retell the black haired angel how he had come to meet Lizzy;
*-*-*-* (Gab's flashback)
That day, I had been flying, looking for something to do, for I was extremely bored, as there was nothing to do in hell but the same old stuff...
Just as I was about to give up the day as impossible, I saw her, sitting on a cloud below me, with a far away expression on her face. You see, I had always been told that angels would run away at the very sight of a demon and... well... I was horribly bored, so I decided to descend and find out for myself how angel reacted to demons.
As I neared her, her far-away expression did not change, therefore, I assumed that she did not even know that I was there, standing behind her, so close, that I could almost touch her. I decided to let her know of my presence by faintly flapping some wind to her with my wings.
She suddenly seemed to snap out of her day-dream-like-state and stared at me, only then, as she watched and studied my features, was I able to actually see her well enough to make out her yellow eyes, which matched her silky, sky-blue colored hair beautifully.
Then, she did something I would have never thought an angel would do to any demon, she smiled up at me sweetly,-"May I help you?"- she asked.
I blinked, twice... for you have to admit it had been a weird reaction, and I think that was the first time I was struck-dumb... I didn't know what to tell her, nor how to react to her, until finally I was able to find my voice, -"You have no idea what I am, do you?"- I asked her, confusion clearly noticed in my voice.
She nodded at me, -"You're a demon, right? Those bat-like wings make it quite obvious."-
-
"You're not scared?"- I had to ask the stupid question to her, for she seemed completely relaxed, in spite the fact that she had one of her race's mortal enemies in front of her at the moment.
-"Should I be? Are you gonna try to hurt me?"- she answered my previous question with another question of her own, as she set her cat-like ears forward with curiosity.
-"Well... now I'm not so sure about that, Kitty."- suddenly as I finished my phrase she frowned and her eyes seemed to flash for a moment.
-"Don't call me Kitty, please, I don't like it... besides, everyone calls me Kaila, and I think you should not be an exception."- she said slowly.
I smirked for the first time since I had met her, so she didn't like the nickname, huh? -"You don't like that name? But it fits you perfectly with those cat-ears and tail! And besides, what is an angel like you doing all alone here Kitty?"-
She scowled at me, and let me tell you, if looks could have killed, I wouldn't be here telling you all about this.-"I was thinking about life and its meaning... that is, until you came and began bothering me with your stupid nonsense."-
I couldn't help but grin at myself, for maybe the day wasn't as lost as I had thought it would, -"Well then, I'll leave you at it... but don't worry, I'll be seeing you again soon enough, soooo... until then... Bye, Kitty!"- as I teleported away from her, I could almost make out her voice shout, -"Don't call me that!"- and it was then that I decided that Kitty-chan would be very fun to play with...
*-*-*-* (End of flashback)
Gabriel smiled at Starla who seemed to be taking in his story with thoughtfulness, -"There's just one thing I'm not sure about," she began, -"How did you find out about Kai's condition of arc angel, I'm sure she didn't tell you, for she never talks about it, and..."-
The demon wagged a finger in front of the black haired angel, -"Sorry to bust your bubble, but I'm afraid that Kitty-chan's condition of arc angel is more than obvious,"- he said grinning, -"If the amount of positive power she gives off is not enough, her kitty-like ears and tail give her away. As far as my knowledge runs, when arc angels are young, they are not able to control their power completely,"- he stopped to take a good look at Starla, who was by now blinking in disbelief, for she couldn't understand how he had come to know all this, -"The uncontrolled power sometimes behaves in odd manners,"- he continued, -"And can end up causing physical changes, like in Kitty's case."-
At first Starla just continued to blink at him until finally, she was able to gain control once more, and she chuckled quietly, -"Should have known"- she muttered quietly, "If Kai wanted to keep you as a secret, she had to have some reason for it..."-
It was know Gabriel's turn to stare at Starla in shock, -"Secret? what do you mean?"- he asked her while scratching the back of his head in a clear act of confusion.
-"Simple,"- stated Starla while smiling slightly, -"She hasn't told a soul about you, no other angel apart from me knows that you have been seeing her."- she watched the demon, trying to guess what was going on in that head of his, as she smiled, mission accomplished, she thought.
Starla looked over at the horizon, deciding that they had left the blue haired angel alone for enough time, -"We better get going!"- she said while opening her wings and beginning to glide towards the place they had left the blond angel some time before, -"Kaila is going to be getting impatient if we don't get back soon!"- she shouted at the demon who had snapped out of his daydream-like state to follow her.
When Starla and Gabriel returned, they found the arc angel sitting on the same cloud they had left her in, she held a beautiful black bird in between her hand, which resumed its flight the moment the it sensed them nearing it.
-"Were back!"- shouted Starla as she neared her friend, however, she suddenly stopped to give the demon beside her a sideway glance before smiling, -"But I'm afraid I'm going to have to go back to heaven to inform that we're alright, otherwise, they're bond to send someone to search for us, and, we wouldn't want anyone to know what companies we keep now would we?"- she gave Gabriel a wink, which he returned with a smile before she flew away, leaving the young angel and the green haired demon alone once more.
-"Well Kitty, looks like were alone again. Oh, and by the way... I didn't know you hadn't told anyone about me..."-
Kaila looked at Gabriel, he was serious for once, at least that she could tell, so she might as well tell him the truth, -"First of all, don't call me Kitty, and second, who cares if I've kept you as a secret? I didn't see the need to tell the other angels about you, after all... I don't think you have harmful ideas in which I'm included, all you ever do is annoy me, you've never done me any real harm, now have you?"-
However, before the green haired demon could even consider answering her, a strange light surrounded them, -"What the Hell?!"- he half shouted before opening his large black wing and using them as a shield for both of them, just in time to see his companion close her eyes and pass out in front of him. He picked her up and looked at her, trying to determine what was the matter with the young angel, -"Kitty are you...? No! Don't pass out! Remain awake! I need held! Kai! Come on!"- he noticed that the intensity of the light was growing as the moments passed, he could also notice its effect on him...
All his efforts to awake the fallen angel were in vain, in a few seconds time, his eyelids began to close, and he too fell unconscious.
Kaila Fluttered her eyes after what had seemed like an eternity and groaned before taken a look around herself from her lying position, and found she was surrounded by enormous trees, which had to be a forest, the birds were singing and... Wait a minute! Forest?! Was she on land?! her eyes shot open immediately, her previous sleep-like state gone in seconds, how had she ended up on land? The last thing she remembered was passing out on a cloud... had she fallen off? No... impossible, and talking about impossible, where was that annoying demon? he had been with her when this had happened, right?
The blue haired angel moved to try to get up, but found she couldn't, she frowned as she half turned, to check out what was holding her, only to find that she was lying on Gabriel and he had embraced her in their sleep, -"Ah! Let go! What do you think you're doing?!"-
However, Gabriel did not even stir... it took a few minutes for it to hit the poor angel; the annoying demon was unconscious, just like she had been a few moments ago. She struggled to release herself from his grip, and heaving a sigh of relief once freed, she looked at him full, his green hair fell over his eye lids, was he dead or something? The poor angel had no idea why, but she began to panic, what if something was wrong with him? She looked him up and down, how was she supposed to figure out if he was alive or not? Her sight rested on his chest, it heaved up and down peacefully, and as she watched it, Kai allowed herself a small smile, at least he was breathing, which meant he was alive, right?... Right?!
She decided she had better be safe than sorry, and therefore, out stretched her hand to place it where his hearth should have been, did demons even have hearths? ...She wasn't all that sure, but the moment her hand touched his chest, she smiled again, for a light thump, thump could be noticed. So, happy that her companion wasn't dead, she sat back to wait for him to wake up, which actually didn't take long.
Suddenly, Gabriel opened his eyes slowly, sat up straight, yawned, and scratched the back of his head with one hand as he looked at her sleepily, "You know? I've had a very weird dream, there was this light, and..."- he stopped as Lizzy raised and eyebrow and gave him a look-around-yourself kind of look as she pointed at their surroundings, -"What? What are you... pointing...at..."- his sentence became slow the moment he looked around himself, and his eyes grew wide when he noticed that he was no longer on a cloud, -"Where the Hell am I?!"- he turned to the angel as if expecting some kind of answer from her, and when she shock her head, he raised his hand towards the sky in defeat, -"Oh man! I'm be in big trouble if anyone finds out that I've been on land without permission, they'll kill me!"- at this point he closed his eyes, ready to teleport back to hell, but found he couldn't, -"Huh?"- he said as he reopened his eyes, -"Why can't I teleport back?"- he again turned to Kai for answers, however before she could give him any kind of answer, they heard a tremendous roar coming from somewhere above them, they turned to gaze at the sky just in time to see a dragon fly over them with its majestic wings out stretched.
For some time neither moved nor talked, as the idea that they were no longer no earth occurred to them at the same time. The first to talk was Kaila, -"Its not possible to teleport to Heaven or Hell if you're not on the same planet... or reality for that matter,"- she turned to gaze once more at the forest surrounding them, -"I think it has became clear that we are no longer in our... er... planet, so what do we do? How do we go back?... And one more thing, how did we get here in the first place?"-
Gabriel seemed as confused as Kaila, he shock his head, -"The light,"- he said, gaining the angel's attention, -"I bet it was that weird light what has brought us here, however I must say that I'm as lost as you are with respect to the part of how to get back,"- he stopped as he noticed something lying on the ground. They both moved over, to find it was a crystal.
Kai picked it up, and suddenly, as it came in contact with her skin, the crystal shone blue. The demon cooked his head towards one side, -"Nice, mind if I take a look?"-
The angel shock her and dropped the crystal into his awaiting hand, and the moment it touched him, the dim blue light turned into a greenish light. Both angel and demon stared in confusion at the object in question, -"Did you see that, Kitty-chan?"- asked Gabriel with growing interest.
The blue haired girl, for once didn't even seem to notice that he had called her by that stupid nickname that he always used to address her, she stared blankly at the crystal, why had it changed color? Did it mean something?
She stretched her hand out and slightly passed her fingers over its surface, making the crystal react once more, for its light passed from green to purple. The angel removed her hand, for she had been startled, and again the crystal went back to its green light, she frowned, -"Why did it do that? Did it have something to do with the fact that both of us were touching it at the same time?"- she asked in a whisper.
-"Don't know Kitty-chan... touch it again, and don't take your hand back, we'll see what happens then."-
She did as she was told, and sure enough, the crystal went from green to purple when it was in contact with both the angel's and the demon's skin, but that wasn't the only change, as Gabriel soon noticed, -"Look! Words are appearing on its surface!"- he said as he bent over to read them out, -"To find the road that connects Heaven and Hell at the same exact point, to find a way to go back in time, to change all that has gone wrong, to find out the truth of all existence... light and dark will have to be able to travel north together, for only together will they be able to find their way back home."-
Once he finished reading, the crystal went dull, without light of any sort. Kai shock her head, -"I'm afraid were stuck in this together... from what I've been able to make out from what you've read, we will only be able to go back to our respective homes if we work together..." after a short pause, she continued, "You know? That sound weird, our two races have never worked together, I've never heard of such a combination, have you?"-
The green haired demon got up, put the crystal into a pocket and brushed the dirt off from himself as he shrugged, -"I can cope with it, you're alright for an angel, I think we can make it, not that we have much of a choice if we wanna go back, that is, so we are gonna have to work together,-" he smiled at this point, -"It wont kill us at any rate, now will it?"-
Kaila was extremely shocked by his attitude, to say the least...she gave him a rather confused look, -"You mean you're not bothered by having to travel with me?"-
-"Are you?"-
His question was simple and straightforward, however, the young arc angel digested it as if it were some kind of trick question, she analyzed it and checked her answer carefully, the truth was that she really didn't mind at all! She was actually relieved that she was stuck with him, rather then with one of those stuck up angels who only want to boss her around because 'It's for her own good' as they claim it to be.In the end she heaved a sigh as she shock her head, -"No, I don't mind..."-
-"Well then, lets get going, the sooner we start, the sooner you'll get rid of me."- he looked up at the sun, calculated where north was, and began walking in that direction.
As she watched him, it suddenly hit Lizzy, -"Gab! Wait! Your wings!"- she caught up to him and pulled at his sleeve, -"Even though the people around here might be accustomed to dragons and stuff like that, I'm quite sure they wont be use to seeing people with bat-like wings, if you show up with those wings, you'll give them the fright of their lives."-
She stopped as he arched an eyebrow and sat one of his hands on her head, -"I can always use my cape to conceal my wings behind it, keeping them from view, and so out of trouble, but... you have wings of your own, and no cape to hide them with, not to mention your kitty ears and tail..."-
Lizzy giggled slightly at him, making her wing disappear, -"I'll make my wings invisible, and as for my ears... if someone asks, we can always say I've been cursed or something."- she said winking, -"I'm sure a curse around here will not be something all that strange."-
Gabriel laughed as he hid his wings, -"Your a weird one..."- he grinned as he set running towards a concrete direction, -"We can continue now can't we? So lets go north, Kitty-chan!"-
The angel frowned as she chased him, -"How many times must I tell to not call me Kitty?!"-
It wasn't till late that afternoon when they finally reached a town, however, this town was not at all like the cities Lizzy was accustomed to watch, for here there seemed to be no cars or high technology of any sort, it was almost as if the town and its people were medieval. Angel and Demon walked side by side along the cheerful streets where kids played gleefully while men and women talked merrily.
-"This sucks... no fighting, no violence, no action, no nothing!"- commented Gabriel with a bored expression, which made his companion scowl, -"You'd be happy if a war exploded around us, wouldn't you"-
-"Why of course!"- he said matter of factly, -"After all, I can't deny what I am, now can I?"-
Kaila rolled her eyes and was about to shoot some sharp comment, when she noticed that while she had been rolling her eyes, he had somehow managed to disappear from her side, 'Great!' she thought to herself, 'First I get lost in this weird land where time seems to have stopped around medieval times, where dragons and other mythical creatures have made their homes, where people don't care if I have cat ears or not because I'm not the strangest person they've seen, and now, only a few hours since my arrival, I get lost from the only one that can help me go back home.' she looked all over for the weird demon, and was about to give up, when she finally spotted a green haired young man looking through the window of a bakery at the food.
She let out a sigh as she strode towards him, once she reached him he didn't notice her presence, so she poked his shoulder with exasperation, -"You could have taken me with you, Gab,"- she said at him the moment he turned to stare at her, -"I was looking for you, and couldn't find you... and... I was scared that you might have decided that you didn't want me to come with you or something."-
The demon raised an eyebrow at her, he hadn't though that she was going to worry, it was just that he had smelled the food and... well, the rest was history, -"Sorry, Kitty-chan, but I'm... uh... hungry,"- he said in a low ashamed whisper, -"We haven't eaten anything since we got here, demons like myself feed of from the power released from hell's core,"- he continued, -"But the power is not reaching me for some reason! You take your energy from heaven and I'm sure you're not feeling that power, so neither of us will be able to feed in the traditional way,"- he stopped to take another wishful look at the cakes, -"I thought that maybe we could get some of these."- he finished, pointing at them.
Kai felt sheepish, for she had been feeling her tummy growl for quiet some time, but what was she supposed to do? They couldn't just steal the human food, they had to buy it, -"I'm hungry too, Gab, but how are we gonna find money to buy those cakes? In human society you need money to buy stuff, we can't just take it and leave you know."-
Gabriel frowned, -"I know that, I've passed a lot of time watching humans,"- he said, -"You're not the only one how knows things about them..."- he looked around as if trying his hardest to find something that could lead them to money, and so, to food, when suddenly his eye caught something, he smiled as he grabbed Kai and pulled her along with him, -"How about this?"- he said pointing at a poster.
The confussed angel looked up at it and read out loud what was written on it, -"Karaoke tonight, big prize in gold for winner, sing up at town hall."-Once she finished, she couldn't hide a giggle, flicking her tail slightly, -"You're gonna sing for money at the karaoke?! Now that's something I wouldn't miss for the world! I've never seen a demon sing."-
Gabriel looked at her and smirked, -"Oh, I'm not the one whose gonna sing, Kitty-chan."-
The aqua-haired angel cooked her head to one side as she perked her cat ears in confusion, -"What do you mean? If you're not gonna sing, then who's gonna... "- her eyes grew wide as realization hit her, -"Oh,no! No way! I'm not gonna sing! There's no way in Heaven, Hell or earth I'm gonna stand up and sing to a whole audience, nuh-huh! You can't make me do it if I don't want to!"-
Gabriel watched her helplessly as she went completely hysterical over his idea, but suddenly, a plan began to form in his mind, and he smirked in anticipation as he thought about it, 'True, I can't actually make her, but once she hears the alternatives, she'll give in, besides, I always thought that angels loved to sing, but the fear in her eyes and her trembling are real... but I want food! Now!' he looked at her with fake sorrowfulness, -"But Kaaaaai! I'm hungry, and so are you, besides, you'll want to sleep in a hotel or something, you're not gonna want to sleep out in the open, alone... with me as your only companion... are you? Come on... you'll do just fine, angels are great singers, AND you have the best adviser anyone could have, me! Nothing can go wrong, we'll win for sure, so how about it?"-
The girl lifted her gaze at him, and she didn't know why, but she nodded at him, -"Ok... I'll do it..."- she whispered in a low voice.
Gabriel grinned from ear to ear as he rushed along the streets to find city hall, pulling, or rather dragging the poor angel behind him.
Light singing could be heard from backstage, were Kai sat trying desperately to calm herself, she was the next one up! Gabriel had told her that everything would go perfectly alright, he had even advised her with what she was supposed to were.
She got up and took a look at herself, blushing slightly, for she still thought that the mini skirt she was wearing was way too short. She shock her head and stared at a mirror nearby, it showed a girl with cat ears and beautiful feathery-white wings, wearing a shiny white dress that sparkled when light shone on it, adorning the top of her head, a red ribbon with a pink flower.
The angel reached up and stroked the flower, remembering who had given it to her;

Night had fallen as Kai practiced the song she had been given to sing, she stopped when she heard a light clapping noise from somewhere to her right.
-"Great singing, Kitty-chan, if you are able to do it like that on stage, then we have the contest won, everyone is gonna be completely absorbed by that voice of yours"-
The angel glared at the demon, -"You're only being nice 'cause you're hoping I'm gonna get you money to buy food."- she stated.
His eyes seemed to gleam in the growing darkness, -"Ah, but Kitty-chan..."- he said while smiling, drawing a red ribbon from one of his pockets and tying in on her hair, -"That is only but one of the reasons why I do it."- he finished with the ribbon and turned to snatch a flower from one of the bushes that grew out side the auditorium were Kai would have to sing in a few hours time, and adjusted it on the red ribbon.
She raised an eyebrow and looked at him with a shocked expression as she tried to make some sense out of what had just happened, -"And what, pray tell, are the other reasons?"- she asked with a slight hint of curiosity in her voice.
Gabriel's' smile grew wider, as he caught her full attention, he winked an eye at her, -"You've got your secrets, and I've got mine."- he said as he chuckled slightly.
The sky-haired angel rolled her eyes in exasperation, -"Should have known that I wouldn't get a straight answer from you."- she shock her head as she continued, -"So, what are you doing here? I thought you were gonna get a place to watch the whole karaoke... weren't you?"-
By now the demon's mysterious gleam had disappeared, -"No need to worry about me, I only wanted to give that ribbon,"- he winked an eye at her before turning round to head back towards the auditorium, -"I thought that it might give you luck while you're on stage."
Kai stared after the leaving demon, before heading for backstage, for it would probably be her turn to sing soon enough...
*-*-*-* (End of flasback)
Kaila started to get nervous when she saw that it was her turn to go on stage next, and by the time they called her up, she has in a state of total panic, what if she messed up? Everyone would laugh at her, wouldn't they? She shivered slightly as she stepped onto the stage and bowed slightly to the awaiting audience, and noticing her demon companion smiling and waiving at from a far of corner, she smiled slightly, while the music began to play a slow charming melody.
The moment the beautiful melody began to flow through her, the angel closed her eyes, and sat her hands on her hearth, while opening her wings slightly, beginning to sign in a soft and clear voice, -"Here we are, safe at last,"- she opened her eyes and looked at the audience, still holding her hands on her hearth, -"We could read our lives, and it seems the song has passed..."- she emphasized the point by making a swish with her tail, -"The rules are gone, and no one knew, that all the tears in Heaven, would bring me back to you..."-
Somehow, the singing relaxed the aqua-haired angel, and before she knew it, she was singing from the depths of her hearth... a song so long contained inside her, that the words didn't seem like words to the by know completely absorbed audience, those words were more like deep intimate thoughts.
As she continued, Kailay removed her hands from her hearth and outstretched them in front of her, -"No one would have ever known or imagined we would make it,"- suddenly on her outstretched hands, a ball of white light was formed, and the angel continued to sing while she smiled at it, -"For it only meant that both of us believe..."-
Gabriel took a look around himself and smiled, his kitty-chan's song was having a great impact on the people, some couples had even began holding hands and leaning on one another. Even he himself had to admit that her voice was incredible, it was smooth and clear, and somehow it reached one's hearth without difficulty. He looked at her once more, and noticed that she was looking at him.
-"You and me we're a miracle, meant to be, and nothing can change that!"-
The demon continued to watch her, completely absorbed in trying to translate the meaning of what she was singing with all her soul.
-"Mountains move and oceans part when they are standing in our way,"- by now, the ball of white light left her outstretched hands and hovered above her head as she recoiled her hands once more and opened her wings to a maximum, -"You and me we're a miracle ages stand watching over us, and heaven shines upon us everyday!"-
Kaila was gaining confidence as the song proceeded, she felt good, she didn't even care about the audience now... she felt as if she were the only one in the world, no responsibilities, no worries... nothing. She flapped her wings a bit, scattering white feathers around herself, and in an instant, she was floating half a meter above the ground, glowing in a bluish-like light, -"Oh yeah! Every time I've felt defeat, you were there for me, at my side,"- she used her arms to embrace herself at this point, -"To give me strength, to set me free! Just because you have more than I can give,"-
As he watched, the demon jumped to the conclusion that she was liberating herself, she was singing all that she couldn't express any other way, and from the impression he was getting from everyone around him, she was surely being listened to. He again focused on the angel on stage, who was still floating and glowing with intensity.
-"The chance is ours,"- she continued while closing her eyes again, -"And we could even be two stars amongst the heavens! Destiny driving you to me!"- she suddenly did a full turn in the air, dancing with the ball of light that had been hovering round her before grabbing hold of it and continuing, -"You and me we're a miracle, meant to be, and nothing can change that! Mountains move and oceans part when they are standing in our way,"- she sang, no trace of her initial shyness left, as she lowered herself to the ground, closing her wings, still holding the ball of light, which was growing fainter now as moments passed, -"You and me we're a miracle, ages stand watching over us! And heaven shines upon us everyday..."-
As the angel neared the end, the ball of light vanished, and she lowered her voice as she finished, -"Miracle..."-
It took the audience a few seconds to recover themselves from the girl's singing, but after those few seconds, the auditorium exploded into applauses, and Kaila felt herself blush furiously, 'Oh my,' she thought, 'I wasn't that good, was I?' she turned and looked at the demon who was grinning from ear to ear as he clapped, when he saw her looking at him, he did a thumbs up at her.
The sky colored angel left stage smiling, it hadn't been so bad, right? She felt so in peace after that, she felt as if nothing could wreck her day... er night, and she was reassured when at the end of the karaoke she received the first prize. She and Gabriel spend some of their gaining on food and two rooms to sleep in, and saved the rest for another time...
