A Vampire’s Life
The smell of blood permeates the air
And I look around with glee
The essence of innocents stain my lips
As their blood runs through my veins
I look down at the people
The children, husbands, and wives
And wonder what their last thoughts were
And what passed before their eyes
I look at the sword in my hand
And notice the crimson stain
I raise it to my lips
And lick the stains away
A maniacal glee lights in my eyes
At the taste of blood so sweet
And no sorrow passes through my heart
As I look down at the dead
A child’s face is turned
And looking in my eyes
I notice the small smile
And the hidden peace inside
I turn away disgusted
At the mortals smiling pain
And stare out at the horizon
To watch the rising sun
I turn to find the shower
And washed off all the blood
I stepped out and watched the crimson water
Rush down into the drain
I dress and leave the building
And walk around the town
I watch the mortals around me
Rushing through their day
As night approaches I sigh
And watch the people some more
I smile with humor
As I watch them hurry to their doors
Many nights I wonder
What life would have been
If I had chosen to kill the child
Inside of my best friend
I have lived centuries
Wondering this very thing
And waiting for the death to come
From the one that made me
Some days passed by slowly
But most blurred into a stream
The ages I was born in
Became many different things
A vampires life is brutal
And lonely most the while
Sometimes I had lovers
But most now have died
I changed back to a mortal
To find that I would have a child
But changes caused a difference
In my child’s DNA
She craved the blood of mortals
And tried to protect a child
I believed she was evil
But she died while saving me
I found different people
With knowledge of things I knew
But I found it was only an illusion
And killed them to save my world
I returned to a place in my past
On the day I made a choice
I changed that fated decision
And did not become the thing you knew
A vampire’s life is bloody
The days and nights are long
Can you see the terror in most mortals eyes?
Now you know the challenges of a vampire’s life
